I lied, fixing that chapter didn't take as long as I thought it would. I'm having a fun time just sitting at my desk, typing away…

Genesis was having a nice time in Sephiroth's office, lying on the other general's couch, surprisingly reading a book that wasn't Loveless. Sephiroth on the other hand was going over mountains of paperwork, trying to figure out which recruits would be good for the SOLDIER programme and which wouldn't.

"Gen, do you remember that cat that was pestering Cloud when he was still going through the normal cadet programme?"

Genesis looked up from his book. "Something Korat wasn't it? I remember his first name being really common."

"Yeah, looks like he and the rat from before have both applied for the SOLDIER tests."

Genesis snorted. "I hope they know that they're not going to get far. With their attitudes, I doubt that they'd be able to advance past third."

"Unless their attitudes change I will not promote them any further than third. That is, if they even manage to get into SOLIDER in the first place."

Genesis let off a small chuckle at that. "You going to try to rig the test so that they look bad in front of the president?"

"Well, if I'm lucky then I won't have to. They might just do it themselves."

Genesis laughed a little before going back to his book.

"Are you reading a children's book?" Sephiroth questioned when he eventually took a good look at the cover.

Genesis made a small affirmative sound.

"Why are you reading a children's book?"

"Zack borrowed it from Rufus and then told me to give it back to the Vice president when I was done with reading it."

"The story of the demon king?" Sephiroth questioned.

"Yeah. Zack said it was a good read, considering that it's based on the legend of the white crow."

"I think I remember seeing a copy in Hojo's office once. I never read it, but he was really interested in the demon king for a long time. He was wondering if it had anything to do with the phoenixes and the alien they were rumoured to have sealed away a long time ago."

"And how did that theory go?" Genesis questioned, putting his book down.

Sephiroth just shrugged his shoulders. "As far as I know he gave up. He spent a long time trying to recreate both the demon king or a white crow by mixing DNA, but it always resulted in children becoming exactly one type of monster or another."

Genesis made a disgusted face. "Somehow that doesn't surprise me. What happened to the kids after?"

Sephiroth shrugged. "Given back to their parents… Well, the mothers at least. Most of them were monsters that didn't have partners that wanted children of their own. Hojo promised that they'd get to keep the child if it was a failure, but he had the right to check on them if he ever found the need to."

"That also doesn't surprise me." Genesis said, shaking his head in disgust. "Hey… You don't think that Cloud could have been one of his experiments do you?"

"I checked the files of all the children last time I went down to the labs. There were no blond haired, blue eyed parents or children among any of them. Also if Cloud was one of his experiments, then Hojo would have shown a lot more interest in him as soon as he entered into Shinra."

"That's true." Genesis looked thoughtful. "Didn't you say that Cloud's father wasn't listed when he handed in his application form?"

"As far as I know, his father is still alive, but Cloud does not want to reveal who he is."

"You don't think that it's someone high up like President Shinra do you?" Genesis questioned with a small laugh.

"The president's a spider. He may be careless, but I doubt that he'd be stupid enough to go out of his way to visit his offspring. If anything he would have paraded him around and handed him over to Hojo as soon as he found out about him." Sephiroth replied and Genesis hummed in agreement.

"So we know it's probably someone in Shinra and someone that has access to materia and has the funds to provide Cloud with a sword that works like a puzzle." Genesis summarised. "You don't think that it's Lazard do you?"

"Always a possibility, but once again, not a crow." Sephiroth replied.

"There's almost a hundred crows in Shinra, Sephiroth. I mean the president sends us out like a fleet of birds whenever he has parades. You don't think that he thinks we're doves do you?"

"You're starting to sound like Zack, Gen." Sephiroth pointed out and Genesis made a somewhat disgusted face.

"Maybe I should distance myself from him for a little while. He might be starting to rub off on me."

Sephiroth chuckled a little at that. "Knowing you, you'd probably give up after a week and go searching for him on your own. Besides, how do you plan to avoid him considering how our relationship works?"

Genesis half-heartedly cursed, causing Sephiroth to chuckle again. "Speaking of our relationship, what are we going to do with our newly found legendary?" Sephiroth questioned.

"I thought we had decided to stick him in my platoon when he got into SOLDIER." Genesis answered.

'Yes, we had already decided on that. I mean what are we going to do before that with his SOLDIER entrance exams?"

"Send a behemoth after him? Preferably not one from the labs?" Genesis questioned.

"Zack's going to have to teach him how to dodge better if that's the case. I believe Angeal mentioned something about taking off Cloud's limiter to ensure that he doesn't faint during the test."

Genesis frowned at the thought. "I can lighten up on the strength of it, but I'm not going to take it off."

Sephiroth raised an eyebrow at that. "You know that Cloud won't be able to get into SOLDIER if he faints during the test." He pointed out.

"He also won't get into SOLDIER for an entirely different reason if Hojo finds out that he isn't just some halfling." Genesis shot back.

"I doubt a little light show will be enough to catch Hojo's attention. Besides, I never said that you needed to take the monitor off. I only said the limiter. You can still monitor Cloud's actions with it still there right?" Sephiroth questioned.

Genesis seemed to think over Sephiroth's words before he finally nodded, with the frown still firmly set on his face though. "Only for the test. I'm putting in back up a little when he has to go for his lab tests though."

Sephiroth nodded his head in agreement. "On the bright side. At least you could probably teach him that little magic trick that you do."

Genesis' expression seemed to lighten up at those words.
