Lash's POV
I blinked, waking up from someone shaking my shoulder gently. Sunlight entering suddenly from the small windows of the plane. Valerie, who was still asleep, had her head was resting on my chest, while one leg was slung over the arm rest of the chair and into the aisle, and the other stuck out from under the table.
One of the Stewards was gently shaking me awake. Once I was, he pointed at the sleeping Valerie.
"Do you mind waking Thirteen up? Her short temperament is, um, rather well-known."
I shook my head. It quickly became common knowledge that both Warren and Valerie had extremely short tempers, especially when being woken up.
Warren was already drinking coffee even though it was late evening, so that left Val.
Blitzkrieg took matters into his own hands, um, wings. He tensed up on the back of a chair, then jumped off, landing on Valerie's stomach. She shot up with a yell, tendrils spreading up and out, ready to strike. Upon realizing that Blitzkrieg was the one who woke her up so suddenly, and painfully, she shoved him off her stomach and he landed on the floor with a thump.
He picked himself up and grumbled, then flapped his wings a couple time to sit back on top of the chair.
Val got up and stretched, vertebrae popping, pulled her coat on, with out her logo, then scooped up the offending reptilian, following Warren and I out of the plane onto the private tarmac.
Council officials drove off in private cars, while one steward pointed us to a black Cadillac SUV, with two people. A girl sat in the front passenger seat, chewing gum, while a guy leaned on the hood of the car, talking to her. They both had the characteristic hair streaks and arm markings in the Battle family.
Once the guy laid eyes on us, he detached himself from the vehicle and walked over to us, stopping in front of Warren.
The two males entered a staring contest, before the new comer broke it and held his hand out.
Warren shook hands with him, as the guy broke into a smile.
"You must be Warren. Nice to meet ya, I'm Chad. The girl in the car is Abby. Ignore her, she's pretty anti-social."
Warren nodded, then stepped to the side to grab his suitcase and followed Chad, Val and I trailing behind with ours. Chad kept rambling on, opening the trunk of the car and helped us put our suitcases in. As he walked to the driver's seat, Val let out a scream, making everyone jump.
He ran back, to find her trying to throw Blitzkrieg off her back, tendrils grabbing at the dragon digging his feet and wing claws into her coat, tearing it.
"What's going on?!" He asked Warren and I, staring at Val fighting with her little friend.
Blitzkrieg suddenly released his hold and Val successfully pulled him off and threw him through the air. He spread his wings out, catching himself and gliding back over, landing on the SUV, looking very hurt at Valerie.
"Val, what happened?" I asked, taking her shredded coat from her.
"Little jerk bit my hand when I was feeding him, then he decided to try and eat my damn tags!" She growled, glaring at the creature in question, who simply made a chirping noise and flapped over to Warren, sitting on his shoulder.
He probably didn't like the flight too much and was stressed.
The girl named Abby was watching with slight interest now, while Chad was staring at Blitzkrieg.
"What is that thing?" He asked.
"That would be Blitzkrieg." I replied.
"But what is it?"
Warren shrugged the shoulder Blitzkrieg wasn't sitting on. "Honestly? We have no idea. We think he's a dragon, but we really don't know. No one does. The only one who might would be the villain who made him, but he's in max security with the rest of his crew."
"What villain?" Abby called out.
"D.N.A. He splices genes and creates creatures from legend. When the Council went to his lab, they found all his equipment destroyed. They think another member of the Society, Hard-Drive, destroyed it for him and released all his creatures. Most were put down by the Council, some were released into the care of zoos and some were never found."
She nodded and went back to doing nothing.
"So, the rumors about Thirteen adopting something that was a Villains' is true?"
She nodded, still glaring at Blitzkrieg.
"Okay, um... As long as it doesn't wreck my car, I don't care. We should start going now..." He swung himself into the drivers seat as we slid into the back seats, settling down for a long drive.
After a twelve hour drive, including stops, with Val asleep for most of it, we watched the edge of the road drop down the side of a mountain as the Cadillac climbed halfway up the peak.
"You sure this is the right way?" I asked, uncertain about where they lived.
"Yeah, I am. I've driven this route countless times, relax. Besides, we're nearly there." Chad replied.
He pulled into a small cavern carved into the side of the peak. Inside was another three vehicles and shelves, plus a few doors that looked as though they were fabricated for a bank vault. Abby disappeared through one, leaving the group.
Once the vehicle was parked, a low rumble was heard outside. We whirled around to see a massive door closing slowly over the opening. As we stared in shock and awe, Chad laughed.
"It matches the outside rock so its harder to find. Welcome to the Battle estate." He remarked, pulling the suitcases out of the car. "Now come on!"
I grabbed my bag as Val and Warren took theirs, rolling it behind them. We filled through one of the smaller doors into a long corridor, which was somewhat dully lit.
After walking for what seemed like an eternity, the corridor opened into a large common room, a massive fire place blazing on one wall, while any wall space was covered in wall hangings. Antique furniture supplied table space and places to sit.
"C'mon, this way." Chad remarked, heading up a carved stone staircase. Once at the top, he turned down another hallway and stopped in front of another metal door, much smaller than the ones in the garage.
"So, due to a cave-in in the old wing, there's a lot of Reno work being done. Two of you are gonna have to share a room. So, who?"
Before Chad even finished his sentence, Warren answered him.
"Val and the rubber band can share."
I shrugged. "If it's okay with Val."
"As long as you don't wake me up, I don't care."
"So it's settled then. Warren, cuz, this is your room." He opened the door, revealing a moderate-sized, carved room with a single bed, pilled high with massive duvets. On the wall opposite the bed sat a fire place.
Warren left his suitcase next to the closet, and closed the door, following Chad to see where Val and I would sleep.
Chad opened the door to the room next to Warren's and Val looked in first.
"Oh, you've got to be joking..." She grumbled.
"Oh mijn...*" My voice trailed off.
Warren looked in the room and started sniggering at the room. There was only one bed, a queen size, once again covered in many fluffy duvets. Once again, on the wall opposite the bed, was yet another fireplace. As far as I could tell, every room had one.
Val whirled around to face me.
"You try, you die." She growled, poking me in the chest. I held my hands up in surrender.
"I believe you."
Chad and Warren started laughing, leaning on each other, at the site of her glaring at me and me defending myself. I do not want to face an angry Valerie.
After a moment, Chad walked off.
"I'll leave you two lovebirds to settle in. C'mon cuz."
Val quirked an eyebrow then shrugged, walking into the room and kicking off her boots. She jumped into the pile of blankets, quickly burrowing underneath them.
"Val? Can you even breath under there?" I asked poking the ball under all the blankets and sheets.
"Yes." I heard a very muffled Valerie respond. "It's warm under here. I like it."
I sighed, as I began unpacking my belongings for my almost six-month stay. "Of course you do."
Laughter echoed down the hallway from Warren's room. Clearly he and Chad got along.
A/N: ABOUT TIME I GOT THIS CHAPTER DONE.
(*Oh my, Dutch.)
SO YEAH. Writing is slow right now, for all my fics. Mainly because of school, but also the fact writers block is a jerk.
