King of Hearts

Chapter 53 – A Good Time.

Don Pitch Robotnik's POV, Central Park, New York.

"It's getting late, you know?" Stated Lace as I guided her to the center of the park.

The sunset was lowering as we reached the fountain. Our trip through the arcade had left me forty dollars short and not much to show for it. Most of our games ended in ether her or myself winning, but by the time we were done I was able to get her a little stuffed bear. Not like a pub arcade has much else. Still, it was cute. Plus it made her smile so it was worth it.

"I know. But I wanted to show you something."

Stopping in font of the fountain, I turned to see her green quills flying through the air. The breeze made her look so pretty. She smiled at me with confusion as I took her hands.

It was clear she was caught off guard as I whispered closely.

"Lace?"

With her soft hands wrapped under mine, we stared into one another like two young kids on their first date. My heart was shaking and my body was tense as I took a step towards her.

With our noses close enough to touch, I said to her gentle touch.

"I had the best night of my life with you tonight."

"Pitch?" She replied as I cut her off with my instant continuation.

"I know being together is a danger for you. And I don't blame you for not wanting to try. If I knew I could be killed for being with a certain someone I would be hesitant too. But now that I'm Don Robotnik I am and always will be a target. My life is in danger everyday and that will never change."

Lace went silent and her eyes lowered to my chest as I went on.

"I never had a real girlfriend. I never really even cared to be honest. But you changed that. And I realize now that since I could die tomorrow; I want to have lived my life to the fullest it could have been."

Pulling up on her hands, Lace looked back into my eyes.

Giving her a gentle smile I said.

"I don't want to die tomorrow without doing this."

Placing my hands on her waist, I leaned in to pressed my lips to her. Lace was completely shocked as her hands stumbled to my sides.

With my eyes closed and hands holding her in place, I felt only happiness as she began to kiss back.

Everything in my life had reached it's peak. With her hands now behind my back and her lips going with mine, I slowly retracted and stared deeply into her eyes with the utter silence at my back.

Very carefully her hands left me as well. And with a swift shake in her stance she stated.

"Wow."

Unleashing a faint chuckle, I continued to smile as her eyes looked back into mine without question.

"Pitch I...?" Bringing back up my hands to rest on hers, I urged.

"Don't say a thing Lace. Let's just go home."

Lace was lost in her shock still as I took her hand to help guide her back to the car.

Helping her into the passenger seat, I took the wheel and began to drive back to the compound. Rover was at the gate watching us pull in. I think he knew, but in respect he stayed away. Slowly coming to a stop, one of my men got my door and I stepped out to head for hers. Still clearly lost in her own world now. I took her hand and helped her out. Looking back into my eyes as I smiled widely, I stated.

"I'll be in my office if you need me. Thank you for such a good time."

Nodding was the most she could do as she muttered back.

"No...no problem kid. Thanks for the...dinner."

Her tone was shaky.

Softly putting my finger under her chin, I got her to look right into my eyes.

She didn't stop nor fight me as I gave her one more quick kiss on the lips. In fact she kissed back and watched from the car as I pulled off and made my way inside.

I felt so good about myself. I actually got her to blush and kiss me. Two things when I first met her I never dreamed to be able to do. Yet I respect her too much to put her in danger. If she decides it is best not to go forward I will not argue. The last thing I want is for her to get hurt because of me.

As I stepped back into my office, I found my lunch from earlier still resting on the top. With a slight push, I dropped it into the trash. Food couldn't taste any better then her.

Gently kicking my feet up, I shut my eyes and did my best to remember the moment I just created.

It was the best thing to ever happen in my life.

One hour later.

My mood was still as high as a kite. And my personal chef had made me some fancy chicken dinner. I could barely pay attention my mind was still set on that moment with Lace.

"Knock! Knock!"

"Come in!" I urged as my office door opened with Rover coming in.

He smiled at me as I took a bite of my food.

"So what's the deal with Lace Pitch?"

"What do you mean?" I asked with a smile as he sat down.

"She's out there wandering like a lost puppy. Something is on her mind and I can't get a word out of her. But judging by what I saw earlier I can only guess it has something to do with you."

Putting down my fork I replied.

"We went out for something to eat after she came and explained to me what was wrong with her during the ride home from the meeting." Rover nodded as I went on to say.

"It was great. Better then I ever expected."

"So it was a date?" Questioned Rover as I shrugged slightly.

"No. Not at all."

"Then why is she like that?" He wondered in confusion as I smiled.

"Cause I like her Rover. A lot."

Rover didn't seem surprised by that.

"She's never been one for dating Pitch. Plus the dangers with you and her?"

Nodding my head quickly, I replied.

"She told me how she felt about that matter. I understand she could be hurt or worse if we started dating. And I will respect her if she says no. But I couldn't go on without at least letting her know how I truly feel. You know?"

Rover understood. Giving me a nod he asked.

"So what happened after you two ate?"

Sitting up I replied.

"I took her to Central Park and admitted my feelings."

"And?" Urged Rover to go on as I smiled widely.

"I kissed her."

Giving me a small smile, Rover then stated.

"So I guess I know why she's like that now. Well you didn't ask her out or anything after that did you Pitch?"

Shaking my head I replied.

"No of course not. I just wanted to get that out of the way. I could die tomorrow Rover. I don't want to die without letting her know the truth."

With a soft rub of his nose, Rover then stated.

"Your not going to die on my watch. Ever. Understand that now Pitch. And I don't want to tell you this but I will cause your like the son I never had. But make sure your one hundred percent positive before you go any further with her. I mean Lace is tough and a killer but she can get hurt. If you plan on being together I have your back completely. Just be sure the both of you agree to the danger it could cause."

Giving him a nod I replied back.

"I'm positive Rover. And you have my word I won't force her to do anything more. If she just wants to be friends after today I won't regret it."

Slowly getting up. Rover reached across my desk to rub my quills.

"Good boy. Now I got to go home. My wife and daughter say it's game night."

"What you playing?" I asked in a curious way as he went for my office door.

"Twister."

Immediately I began to laugh as he shut my door.

Love and a hug. Let me know what your thinking so far and I'll have more chapters up soon.
