THE SECRET LIFE OF CALLIOPE

"Before I say anything, I'm going to have to swear you all to secrecy. Even now the things that I did are top secret. No one is supposed to know about them," Calliope said.

"Uh, I don't know if you know this or not, Spacemum, but they want to strip your lives from you or worse just for being in the C.I.A.," Donna warned.

"I'm sure they do, but that doesn't matter. I still can't tell them anything even if it's to save myself," Calliope said.

"That's just stupid. Whatever you're keeping from us can't be worth your life," Donna protested.

"She's right, Mother. You have to listen to her. Whatever oath that you swore or whatever sense of loyalty that you feel to whoever you were working for should have long since expired. That was centuries ago. What could telling any of that information in order to save yourself possibly hurt now?" the Doctor said.

"I won't tell you the truth unless you all swear to me that you won't tell anyone else not even to save me," Calliope said.

"I won't do it," the Doctor said.

"Swear it or I won't tell you a thing!" Calliope said forcefully.

The Doctor's natural curiosity and need to know finally made him say, "I swear."

"What?" Donna asked in surprise.

"I need to know the truth," the Doctor said.

"Well, I'm certainly not swearing not to say anything. I'm going to tell them everything," Donna said.

"Me too. I won't let anything happen to you, Calliope. It would devastate the Doctor if anything did," Clara said.

"The two of you have to swear not to say anything," the Doctor practically hissed at them.

Donna started to say that there was no way that was going to happen, and then she saw a certain look in his eyes that told her instantly what he was thinking because she knew how he thought better than anyone else with the possible exception of Rose. He wouldn't tell anyone what his mother was going to say, but he would use the information to find proof that she was innocent without having to break his word to her. It was pretty clever she had to admit if a bit underhanded. She expected no less of her Spaceman though she thought to herself with a smile.

Besides that, she had a plan of her own. So far it was working perfectly. Her refusal to promise not to say anything was just for show so that Calliope didn't get suspicious if she caved in too easily.

Clara had obviously just realized that the Doctor had a plan too because she immediately stopped trying to argue with Calliope. Donna saw her in a new light now as she saw that Clara must know him very well too in order to realize that so quickly. She resolved to get to know her much better than she did.

They all swore to say nothing, and Calliope smiled at the Doctor for a moment before beginning. She knew what he was thinking. No doubt he had a plan to help her but she was sure that any evidence that might have helped had long ago been disposed of. The people that she had worked for were very good at covering their tracks.

"I was very young, about eighty I suppose, when I was first approached by a secret group that told me that they needed my help. They asked me if I had ever heard of the C.I.A. which of course I had since practically everyone has, and then they said that they were the antithesis of the C.I.A. They told me that they had been working behind the scenes to stop them for almost as long as they had existed. Then they got to the meat of the matter as they said that they needed someone to pose as a recruit to the C.I.A and rise to its highest ranks so that they could learn all of their moves in advance not to mention all of their secrets. Someone young who neither side knew anything about. Then they asked if I would be that someone. I was hesitant to at first until they told me the real truth about what happened to my brother and finally convinced me," Calliope said as she suddenly stopped talking and had a faraway look in her eyes.

"You had a brother? You never told me that," the Doctor asked completely surprised.

"He died in what I thought was an accident long before you were born, Theta. His TARDIS became faulty and exploded. Then my future employers proved to me that the C.I.A. killed him because they feared that he would have become a major thorn in their side if he had lived. It seemed that he had found out about a horrible plan to limit the growth of humanity and keep them from growing too much in order to benefit the Time Lords. He put a stop to this plan by preventing the C.I.A. from starting a war between Earth and the Daleks that would have utterly destroyed the human race. He saved humanity but the price he paid for that was his life. The C.I.A. felt threatened by what he had done and decided to stop him by sabotaging his TARDIS to explode when he took it out again the next time that he left Gallifrey. They made it look like an accident and everyone believed it. I never talked about him again because I couldn't bear to, but I did dedicate my life to avenging him. The first way that I did that was by my actions as a spy inside of the C.I.A., and then I tried to instill the values of doing the right thing no matter what it cost, always questioning authority, never being cruel or cowardly, and loving and respecting the other species in the universe into you. Maybe I unconsciously shaped you into who you are based on what happened to him because I wanted to produce someone who would make him proud. His death really did shape my entire life from that point on," Calliope said.

"Who is this group? Why is it that no one's ever heard of them?" the Doctor asked intrigued.

"No one's ever heard of them because they don't want them to. They want to stay invisible to everyone especially the C.I.A. They don't want anyone to know that they exist so that they can continue to thwart the C.I.A. as much as they can. If no one knows that you exist you can do pretty much whatever you want with no threat of repercussions after all. It will also keep their agents within the C.I.A. safe since they don't even know that there are agents there. They have no idea that there is a secret group out to stop them, and it needs to stay that way if only to keep those other agents currently still there safe," Calliope said firmly.

"There are others spies? Does this group even have a name? I mean what do you call yourselves?" the Doctor asked.

"The Children of Sekhmet. It was started by the people who fought alongside Sekhmet and were inspired by her example in standing up to Rassilon in the Dark Times. It's pretty ironic considering that Persephone was almost like a mother to me at the time, and I had no idea that she was Sekhmet. It's even more ironic because working for them made me lose her," Calliope said in a deeply saddened tone.

"Not anymore," a voice with an Irish accent said that was completely unfamiliar to everyone there.

They all turned to see a woman with long dark hair wearing a magnificent green dress that was covered with fine jewels and went all the way to the ground. She also wore a small golden tiara on her head with a large ruby in the center of it. She looked like she came from sometime around the Dark Ages or from out of a King Arthur story.

The Doctor recognized her instantly of course. He couldn't believe even she was acting this crazy though.

"Lily? It looks like you've gotten yourself a little bit of a princess fixation in this new incarnation. What happened to you? Did you rob Cinderella's wardrobe?" the Doctor asked as he burst out laughing at her new look.

"Yeah, laugh it up, Chin Boy. Like your fashion sense is any better," Lily said with a smirk.

"Hey! I'm the only one who can call him that. It's kind of my trademark," Clara protested.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, C," Lily said and then she hugged Clara so hard that Clara was afraid that one of her ribs had just popped.

Clara quickly pulled herself out of Lily's grasp and quickly hid behind Donna who said, "Don't even think about hugging me like that, Emo Girl!"

"I'm sorry, Clarabelle. It's this new regeneration. I'm so touchy feely now that all I want to do is be nice to everyone and hug them. I almost got killed doing that in my first adventure in this body when I tried to hug an extremely dangerous monster that was about to attack me. I was a little out of then though because I had just regenerated," Lily said.

"You weren't nice to me," the Doctor pointed out.

"Well, I have to maintain some standards, D!" Lily replied with an evil grin.

"D? Is that what you're calling me instead of Doctor now?" the Doctor asked annoyed.

"No, it stands for Doofus, Dimwit, or maybe Derwood. I haven't decided which one yet. All of those names fit you so well. I thought it would be better than screaming 'Hey, you!' anyway," Lily said grinning.

"I thought maybe you liked me better these days. You did kiss me on the cheek the last time that we met after all," the Doctor said.

"What can I say? I had a weak moment. Don't count on it happening again, Dum Dum. Yeah maybe that's it. Maybe it's Dum Dum," Lily said grinning.

"I think I preferred it when you just called me D," the Doctor grumbled.

The two of them suddenly stopped talking as the Doctor realized that Lily wanted to say something to his mother. Lily and Calliope looked at one another for a long moment in silence before Lily finally said, "I'm so sorry. I completely misjudged you. I should have known that you'd never do something as despicable as join the C.I.A. without a good reason. It's just that you never gave me one when I asked you no matter how hard I pressed you to but now I see why. I can't believe that there's a group out there inspired by me and that you were a part of it. I'm touched. I – I'm so sorry. I'm sorry about doubting you and turning my back on you. I'm sorry for killing Brax. I'm sorry about our fight after Rose and the Doctor eloped. I'm sorry about everything that's happened between us over the last few centuries. Most of all, I'm sorry to have lost you as a friend. No, you were always more than a friend. You were a daughter to me in the days that I had no one. I hope that maybe we could eventually go back to that relationship again. Or at least we could be friends again someday."

Calliope looked at Lily with a blank expression on her face for a moment and then she smiled as she said, "I've been dreaming about you saying that for so long now. I don't blame you for what happened to Brax. I never did. I know that you wouldn't have done it if there had been any other way. As for being friends, I'm afraid that's never going to happen. We're going to become so much more than that. It's going to ruin your image I suppose, but I don't really care. Do you?"

Lily's own response was to say, "Ah, it's about time I changed my image anyway. It was getting too stale. I like to update it at least once every hundred years or so."

Then the two women embraced and held each other tightly as they began crying. The bitter enmity of the two old enemies was shed along with the tears as they started on the long hard road to becoming friends once more. It wouldn't be an instant process, but this was the day that brought the two of them together again permanently. The wounds of the past had started to finally heal at last.

At that moment, the High Council of the Time Lords stopped listening to Lily's live transmission to them out of respect as Karen Pond said, "See? Lily proved it. Calliope is innocent. I told you that she would get you the proof that you needed. She was hiding there the whole time with her perception filter on letting us listen to Calliope's story and even the Doctor never noticed her. She really would have made the perfect spy. Maybe she was one once for all that we know. Now let's talk about dropping the charges against Calliope and keeping the Children of Sekhmet out of the public record. I think that they should stay in the shadows, don't you?"

The High Council agreed.

Lily smiled as she thought of how she had just exonerated her old friend even though she would never tell Calliope that. There was no use in bragging after all she thought. She just wished that Rose had told her how she had learned the truth about Calliope with her powers sooner. It took the threat of her possible execution to drag it out of her.

Donna tried not to smile as she realized that their plan had worked. Donna had planned this whole thing with Rose and Lily ahead of time when she made a brief call to Rose before traveling over to Calliope's house. She knew that calling Rose would get results.

The Doctor and Clara hadn't had a clue of course. It made it easier to keep Calliope in the dark that way. The Doctor was terrible at lying to his mother after all. He could lie to anyone else but never her.

As Donna watched the two of them continue to laugh and talk with one another, she was completely content. She felt as if all was right with the universe for once.

She couldn't have been more wrong as back home on Earth, Carmilla was still on the loose and attacking people unknown to Donna. The other Bad Wolves certainly knew about it though after Ileana told them, and they were even now trying to come up with some kind of plan to find and stop her.

Ileana was acting as the de facto leader of the group while Donna was away and was busy talking about what she knew about the return of Carmilla with the others when Carmilla herself decided to drop in. She suddenly appeared right in the middle of their headquarters out of thin air with a huge mischievous smile on her face.

"Hello, girls! My ears were burning so I just knew that someone was talking about me somewhere. I figured it would be you," Carmilla said.

"What are you up to this time? Where did you get these new powers all of a sudden?" Alina demanded.

"My poor sister! What's the matter? Are you jealous? You could have had the same powers that I do, but no, you had to go and become one of the good guys. I'm really surprised at you I must say. I never thought in a million years that you would become as bad as Lana over there. It hurts me, dear sister. It hurts me deeply," Carmilla said with tears in her eyes.

"Please. You've never felt anything for anyone in your life. You never cared about me or Nicoleta," Alina said

Carmilla's tears immediately stopped, and she suddenly grinned as she said, "True. I thought I'd try to get you to join my side though just once. Just for the fun of it. I knew you'd refuse though. You're too much of a goody goody these days. Oh, well. Playtime has ended then. Now it's time for the real game to begin. Bad Wolves, I decided that the best way to beat you was to bring together a team of my own to stop you with. I want you to meet my new sisters!"

The Wolves all stared in horror as a dozen other women suddenly appeared beside her who all looked just like her.

"I suppose I should explain something first before I kill you. An old friend of yours named Discord made me into a brand new type of vampire. I don't drink blood now. I drain the years away from my victims instead and drink in the life that they now never lived. Believe me when I say that's such a rush! She said that it was a gift for you since you're all such good buddies of Rose's and all. Another cool side benefit of being the new me is that I can also turn my victims into vampires that are just like me in every way. Literally. I haven't decided what to call our new species yet. Youth suckers? Nah, too corny," Carmilla said with an amused grin on her face as she and her new converts closed in on the Wolves.

"How about we just say that you all just suck period and call it even?" Ileana said.

"Oh, you did not just go there. That's it. You're going down now," Carmilla said enraged.

"What is it with the clumsy attempts at sounding cool? It just makes you sound stupid," Alina said.

"Well, stupider anyway," Ileana joked.

"That's it. No more fooling around with them. Show them exactly what we can do now. Destroy them. All of them but the child. Save her for me. I want her mother to see the moment when I make her over into one of us," Carmilla ordered.

Carmilla's vampires immediately moved in for the attack while Carmilla struck first blood. Her first victim was Emmy who started visibly aging right away as she grabbed her. She was absorbing her new body's entire lifetime in only a matter of seconds. Emmy knew that she had to get away from her quickly or she would force her to regenerate again and then steal her entire life cycle from her at once.

"Time Lords are very tasty. They're so much better than humans. They're just chock full of life with that long, long lifespan of theirs. You should give one a try," Carmilla said to the other vampires.

"I don't mind if I do. My mother always told me to share my food," one of the other Carmillas said as she moved towards Emmy and started to touch her too.

That was when Donna's TARDIS returned, and she quickly emerged from it shouting, "Get away from her or you're going to regret it!"

"Ooh! I'm scared," Carmilla said as she dropped Emmy who lost consciousness the instant that she hit the ground.

"You should be, Suck Girl. I brought some friends along with me," Donna said.

The Doctor's TARDIS quickly materialized next to hers along with Lily's and Calliope's. Donna was now joined by the Doctor, Clara, Lily, and Calliope as they and the Bad Wolves all faced off against the Carmillas together.

"Yes, more Time Lords! It's a buffet!" the Carmillas all said together.

The Doctor rushed to Emmy's side as he tried to gently shake her now withered old body awake as he said, "Arianrhod, are you alright?"

"I've definitely been better. I feel so weak. So funny," Emmy said as she briefly popped open one eye and then quickly closed it again.

"You want some life energy? Take mine and choke on it," Lily said furious as she started attacking the Carmillas with blasts of her regenerative energy.

"It's an all you can eat buffet, girls!" Carmilla said to her vampire duplicates as they all rushed at Lily.

"Save some for me. I'm starving," Emmy said as she suddenly changed into another copy of Carmilla and started draining the Doctor's life force on the spot.

"Doctor!" Clara shouted.

"Alright, that's it! I had enough of this kind of stunt when the Master did it. I'm sending you packing straight back where you came from, Duplicate Girl," Donna said as she joined in on the fight against Carmilla and her vampire stooges.

"Emmy? Are you still in there? Emmy, can you hear me?" Lilith said distraught as she knocked her friend away from the Doctor with a punch to the jaw that sent her flying into the nearest wall.

"Emmy? Sorry, don't know her. My name's Carmilla," the former Emmy said laughing.

"What have you done to my friend?!" Lilith cried out in rage.

"She's mine now. Soon you will all be. You will all be just like me," Carmilla said as she emitted a wicked laugh.

Next: It's the Bad Wolves and their friends versus the army of Carmillas. Will they be able to return Emmy back to normal or is she forever lost to them? Plus the wrath of a Carrionite is unleashed as we see what Lilith can really do for the first time. Better watch out, Carmilla!
