Bex POV
They had turned the second kitchen of the house into a makeshift hospital where I resided now. Despite arguing with one of the nursed for several minutes about having beat up a Circle agent in this condition so walking around the house was not a problem she had to drug me with pain killers to stop me showing her what I could really do injured. They'd stitched me up again and re-bandaged the wound, it still throbbed a little though.
My parents were with me, talking hurriedly and angrily in hushed whispers about whose fault it was I got shot. They both agreed it wasn't Cammie or Zach, but they were both very skeptical about Alexa and Seth. They also both agreed that I owed them some answers right away.
I slowly got up on my elbows, using the button the nurse had given me to recline by bed so that I could sit up moderately straight. "Are you alright?" Mum asked me, giving me a small plastic cup of water. I drank it in two gulps and returned it to her. "I am. Really." She didn't look convinced, probably because I was anything but convincing.
"What happened?" Dad asked. Where to begin? I thought. Part of me wished I had stayed with Liz and Macey when we had arrived in Castor but a bigger part of me said that I wouldn't have had it any other way than being with Cam and Zach.
"I got shot." I told him blankly, watch the procession of girls and the occasional boy stream passed into the main hall. When Cammie had said we were going to a safe 'house' I doubt she realised just how big this place was. Not Gallagher Academy big, but it was huge.
"Care to elaborate?" They both stared at me. I noticed Liz, Macey and Alexa standing at the door.
"I got shot by a guy called Jack who pretended to want to help us but was actually working for the Circle of Cavan, I was taken to a hospital in Castor Village where the attack occurred and don't really remember too much else till the day Zach and Seth both came to get me out of the hospital. I have a huge hospital bill and they think I was a Jane Doe. Driving back to here we were attacked by two Circle members, in trying to escape them my stitched ripped and then here we are." I was very out of breath by the time I had finished talking and mum offered my yet another cup of water. This one I drank more slowly as the three girls entered the room.
Both my parents turned to the girls. Macey and Liz ran up and hugged me as much as they could before it became painful and demanded to know every single detail since we were separated at Castor. "If I told you all that now we'd be here a while." I laughed.
"Besides," dad said. "She needs to rest and recover." I smiled at Alexa, who was stood to one side.
"Are you doing okay?" She asked me. I told her I was and that what happened with Jack wasn't her fault, I could see she partially blamed herself.
"Are you okay?" I asked her. She shrugged.
"I wish we'd been there." Macey said. "I could have done something more than took turns driving a van when everyone else slept."
"Speak for yourself, I'm not much good out in the field personally." Liz said honestly.
"Well it'd still beat Anna's snoring." Macey said and we all laughed.
"Just glad we all got back alive, once you're better Cammie can tell you all about what happened in Moon Town. You'd have kicked ass at Drew's." She smiled. I had no idea who Drew was frankly but now I really wanted to find out.
"Drew Collins?" Dad asked. Now I was certainly listening.
"You know who she means?" Macey questioned, Alexa nodded.
"Well yeah he's the guy tied up in the utility room, remember?" Liz said. Alexa gritted her teeth.
"The one who just keeps saying 10th birthday and singing happy birthday over and over again?" The person clearly dawned on Macey.
"Yeah and that creepy thing about ending up like 'dear old mum'." A shiver ran down my spine, that sounded really weird. Alexa had her hands in fists.
"I think I need to go find the others, she said, hope you get better!" She ran off quickly, leaving us all confused. I was almost 100% positive that by others she meant Zach, Cammie and Seth. All of whom had seemed to form a really good bond since I had been admitted to hospital. Especially Cammie and Alexa, who seemed to be one in the same person now. Alexa reminded me so much of Cammie, her attitude, her personality, her looks. He taste in semi-problematic Blackthorne boys, though in all fairness Zach obviously wasn't much like the mysterious and reserved guy we had met the years before, but Seth reminded me a lot of Zach when we had all first met one another.
Even that seemed like a life time ago, and we'd all gotten so close since.
"Hey, Ms. Morgan mentioned we could start school again after summer, they don't think the Circle will try something that desperate again. Especially now that we know about the list Alexa has." Liz said, breaking the silence. Mum glared at her. "Which of course I know nothing about what so ever, what list? I wasn't ease dropping." I grinned at my friend and so did Macey, for a spy subtlety wasn't her strong point.
"Get some rest love, you'll be better soon enough." Dad patted my knee and ushered the girls out after yet another hug from each of them. I doubted I'd sleep but as soon as the bed was flat again I passed out in a heartbeat.
