"Why did you do that?" Red asked, sounding hurt, as she stroked Lance's hair. "You didn't have to…"

Lance did not reply, as he was fast asleep. The black-haired girl sighed. The Champion was shirtless, but the front of his chest was swathed in white bandages. There was still blood leaking through them, even now.

How much blood could a human lose?

Well, perhaps he was not quite human any longer, but she hadn't expected the Oddish to have enough power for Solarbeam, and even if her husband was protected from sunlight, a beam of it was much different from daily burning, which could be avoided with a good sunblock lotion!

* Why did you do that? *

Now, Lance coughed weakly, and Red winced. Golden eyes blinked open, but they were hazy with blood loss.

"Shh." She crooned, as he sat up, his fangs elongating as his Child pulled him into an embrace. "Shh…"

* I won't let go of you. *

Lance sighed as he fed, wondering. By the time his mind cleared, she was looking quite pale, but it was easy enough for him to fumble Hakuryuu's poke ball open so there would be enough for them both.

All right now, Master? Hakuryuu asked in her soft musical voice. Lance stroked her wings as he nodded.

(Yes, thank you.)

I just need to make sure you were alive. That was foolish! You know that our blood will protect you from sun and flame, but a Solarbeam attack – you shouldn't have risked it!

Red nodded, though she flushed when Lance kissed her.

"I did it for you."

There had been no time for her to dissolve into mist or shadow, and their powers were much reduced during the daytime anyway.

How could she argue with that?

* He saved me… *

Wisely, she chose not to, and Dragonair huffed, returning to her poke ball for a nap.

Lance kissed her again. "My bride, for all eternity…"

"Yes," She breathed, unwilling to break away. "Yours…"

Why would she want to leave?

* I love you. * Red thought, as much as a resuscitated corpse could talk or think about love. * Forever… *

He relaxed, and smiled.
