Tokens of the Past

Mordred had no memory of his father, although his mentors had been numerous. He was always taken in, always cared for but he never really felt he belonged.

And now he was a knight of Camelot and Arthur had become the latest father figure. He admired Merlin too, even though each, unfounded, suspicious glance thrown his way hurt like fire.

Mordred sat on the bed of his new chambers, perhaps a real home at last, and picked up his most treasured procession; an heirloom passed on from his absent father.

An amazingly detailed carving of a boat. Made from wood.

A/N: Bit stuck on what the carving would be but in the end I chose a boat because of the legend of Mordred and other babies being cast out to sea to die.
