Castiel skated faster, weaving in and out of the screeching kids and couples who /really/ wanted to skate in lines holding hands, being awkward for everyone else.
The bright lights almost blinded him, and he didn't see the person in front of him stumble to the floor, going down with flailing limbs and an impressive stream of swear words, until he'd tripped over them and fell as well.
His head bounced painfully off the floor and he groaned, drowned out by the thumping music. He opened his eyes, ready to have a go at whoever had knocked him over, only to find himself eye-to-eye with them. He blinked in surprise, and looked down. Somehow the other man had ended up straddling him, his arms and legs bracketing Cas' body.
"Um, hi?" He said, there wasn't really much else to say. and the other man looked at him in shock.
"Hi?" The man said, and Cas realised how close to his face he was, and that the man had very green eyes, or maybe it was just the lights that flashed over the both of them that made them look so bright.
"Sorry about that." Castiel said, looking out of the corners of his eyes for a marshal or someone to help him out. "My bad I couldn't see you."
He really, really hoped this man got off him soon.
The man shook his head. "No, sorry man, that was my fault. I got… Distracted and fell." He got off Castiel, finally, and spent a good fifteen seconds trying to stand up, his skates slipping time and time again, until Castiel, already upright and rubbing the back of his head, wincing, head a hand out to him.
He helped the man up and was just about to go skating around the rink again, when Dean tightened his grip on his hand, tugging Castiel back ever so slightly to look at him.
"As an apology, how would you feel about me buying you a drink?" the man asked, eyes flicking over to the mostly-kid-targeted tuckshop.
Castiel found himself nodding, a smile creeping over his face. At the sight of the stranger's smile, he felt his head throb a little less.
"I could go for a slushie," he grinned and the man's face lit up.
"My name's Dean, by the way, what's yours?" he asked, as they began to make their way off the rink.
"I'm Castiel," he said, with a small smile.
Dean smiled back, "Castiel, I like it!" he called and Cas blushed, hoping the lights covered his cheeks.
He had dropped Cas' hand, and was using it to windmill his arms, as if it helped him stay upright.
Castiel winced as one of the hands almost hit him in the face and he caught it, carefully by the wrist and lowered it to his side.
"Keep your hands down, and lean forward a bit more," he prompted, having to yell over the loud pop music that was now oozing out the speakers.
Dean tried to do what Cas was telling him and laughed quietly as he managed to stay upright and almost kept pace with Castiel, who had slowed considerably for him.
A few minutes later, they were sitting down with slushies (blue raspberry for Dean and a questionably coloured apple one for Castiel) and laughing over fireflies of all things.
Castiel grinned even wider when Dean asked him if he would teach him how to skate better.
"Of course, if there's a coffee in it for me, afterwards?" Castiel joked, taking a long sip. Dean copied him and stuck his tongue out, crossing his eyes to see if his tongue was blue yet. Castiel laughed.
"And yes, there will be a coffee for you," Dean said, with a wink.
And Castiel would have glad have been slammed into the rink floor, just to see Dean wink like that again.
