An Author's Note and A Thank You: I'd like to thank you all for reading The Lonesome Road! I'm not sure how this chapter is quality-wise, as I wrote it quickly as more of a teaser for the next story. I just felt like making a short epilogue before jumping to the next one (Plus, I like the number 50 on chapters.) I'm not sure the next story will be quite as long as the previous two, but still have a ton of story to tell...and even more to tie up.

PS, I hope the epilogue makes you grin... -CakeLegends

The Lonesome Road - Chapter 50

20 minutes after CT Scan

The Heiress stared off into her fading blurs. Her hands gripped the sides of her chair with nervous tension. Her stare was quickly becoming emptier. Lifeless.

Ruby swallowed her own building nerves. She placed her hand atop her lover's.

Weiss flinched.

The Heiress sighed. Her shoulders slumped in embarrassment. "I'm sorry..."

"Don't worry about it..." Ruby bit her lip with concern. "We can leave soon. You're almost done here..."

Weiss nodded somberly to the voice.

"I'm sorry..." Schnee mumbled. Her shoulders were slumped downward. "About everything..."

"You don't have to apologize for anything-"

"I'm trying now, but for a long time...I wasn't a nice person." Weiss sighed. "Maybe I did something to deserve all this."

Weiss heard the sound of the office door opening. It was time. Ruby patted her on the shoulder.

She felt the caped-girl lean in towards her ear. Her whispered words sent shivers down Weiss' spine. "I'll always be here for you."

The doctor shuffled a few papers. He let out a sigh.

"We've discovered the details of your condition." The doctor stated. "You have withstood severe damage to your optic nerves. I'm sorry; there isn't a known way to fix this. I'm afraid you're going to go completely blind very, very soon."

Weiss took a slow breath. This was terrifying. Her head tilted somberly towards the floor.

"-But it isn't always permanent."

Weiss' head lifted.

The doctor noticed her shift. "At least, it doesn't have to be."

A glimpse of hope shone through Weiss' growing darkness. Her sightless eyes widened. Her back straightened.

"What do you mean exactly, doctor?"

Epilogue: 2 weeks after former events...

An unusually cold wind blew through the city. The streets and sidewalks were packed. The activeness had clearly multiplied in the presence of the Vytal Festival.

An Heiress stood in front of a wooden door. She opened it cautiously. She entered the booth, taking a seat at the wooden chair inside.

"Of all people..." Schnee began, mumbling to herself. "Why the fuck am I here?"

Through the thin wall, the Heiress heard a person take their place in the seat.

"Good evening, child." A miscellaneous voice spoke through the wall. "What would you like to confess?"

"...How does this work?" The Heiress asked. "I'm not really...'religious' or whatever."

"You've never seen a confession box?" The voice asked with disbelief.

"Not often." The cold girl admitted. "Only in some hardcore porn."

A long beat of silence hung in the air.

The cold girl cleared her throat awkwardly. "...Sorry about that."

"Well, you're here to say those types of things, I guess..." The voice sighed. "You may speak about whatever you like."

The Heiress sighed. What did she want to say first? Something simple. Something obvious.

"I miss my sister." Schnee admitted. "I'll never see her again, and it's my fault."

The Heiress cracked her knuckles. She continued to speak.

"And on top of that, all these doctors keep thinking I'm dead."

"May I ask why?"

"I keep a cool head." The cold girl stated with a grin. "It's a Schnee-thing."

"Do you plan on seeing her soon?"

"...I'll see her again someday." She stated. "I keep saying that to myself. Whether or not it's true, it keeps me going."

The cold girl rolled her shoulders in discomfort. This was a little odd for her. She rose to her feet, giving a brief 'thank you' through the wall. She stepped outside the booth and swiftly exited the building.

Winter let out a sigh into the cold air of the city. The White Fang thought she was dead. The world thought she was dead.

She smirked, remembering awaking to the terrified face of her coroner.

Slow heartbeats. Low body temperatures. Their long bloodline had made the Schnee's semblances quite unique. The children of ice were hard to kill.

Winter knew this was the best option. Witness protection. Powerful people wanted her dead. She was safer this way.

"C'mon Winn..." The cold girl mumbled to herself. She managed a somber smile. "Go seize the day."

With a fleeting wave to the window, Winter walked off the chapel stairs, disappearing into the crowded streets of Vacuo.

She was the surviving victim, left alone in a city. The forgotten Heiress. The loneliest of all.

Winter Schnee was damned to walk the Lonesome Road.
