Chapter Fifty-One

Sun shone brightly through the window. Besides the birds chirping their morning greetings to the sky, there was only silence. Beautiful, restful silence. Until...

The door burst open and a beautiful brunette waltzed in, "The sun is shining, come on get happy! We're gonna chase all your cares away. The sun is shining, come on get happy! Get ready for the judgement day."

Lana continued, loudly, into the second verse as she put both knees on her daughter's bed and bounced excitedly. Leticia groaned and attempted to bury herself deeper into the bed. She did this every damn morning. Well, usually when Letty had pressed the snooze button on her arm clock one too many times.

Leticia's mother dug out a corner of the comforter from underneath her body and hopped under. "Come on, my love. How can you wait any longer to see this beautiful day? Wake up."

"I don't want to."

"You've come this far. Just another day." Lana encouraged.

"You say that every morning."

"And I'll say it every morning until you say it yourself. You should jump out of bed in the morning, fight for your place in this world, love someone and then sleep so you can wake up and do it all over again. So," Lana whipped the covers off of them both, "wake up, my sweet, sweet love. It's time to fight for your place."

Letty sighed and sat up in her bed. Lana placed a quick kiss to her daughter's temple and got out of bed. "Wake up."

"Mama?" Leticia murmured. The more she struggled to bring herself out of the darkness, the harder her head began to pulse with an incredible headache. Her brows furrowed and she moved her head to the left, trying to open her eyes.

A mocking laugh. "Sorry to disappoint." A distorted voice answered.

"Fuck." Groggy, Leticia fought harder for comprehension. Her eyes opened and blurred colors began to clear with every blink. Moving to press her hand against her temple, the brunette found she was unable to. Her wrists were bound tightly behind her back. Apparently they had been like that for quite a while because her shoulders stung with the strain.

Her surroundings were clearer now. Almost like an industrial building's basement, there were pipes running across the ceiling and around the perimeter of the vast room. Industrial fluorescent lights cast shadows around her and her assailant, whoever it was, was hidden there.

The generic folding chair she was tied to was terribly uncomfortable and dug into her ass painfully. Quickly, Leticia ran through the last moments before the darkness.

Talking to Gisele. Greeting the doorman at the Walton Building. The elevator. Lisa! She remembered Lisa had been duct taped to a chair. And then-.

"That's it." The feminine voice coaxed. "Now, we're getting somewhere. Has it all come back to you yet?" Dr. Herrera took two steps from the shadows.

"Wha-?"

"Let me guess: you're thinking 'what's going on? Why is this happening to me'?" Megan asked theatrically clutching her chest. She chuckled like the cat that had finally caught the canary. Her heels clicked as she stalked closer to Letty, and then circled her like a predator on its prey. "Those are two questions I'm very familiar with."

"What do you want?"

Keep the assailant talking; learn what you can about them and your surroundings. Humanize yourself. At least that's what all of the articles on kidnapping and hostage taking said. Leticia, however, had the distinct feeling that no matter how human she appeared before Megan, it wouldn't be of any help.

So, the bottom line it was.

"What do I want?" Megan repeated, leaning her forearm on Letty's shoulder as if they were old pals.

"Yeah, what do you want? Who are you?"

"See, that's the problem with you CEOs and presidents. I suppose it's a wealthy versus poor thing. You all are too high up on your fucking thrones that you forget to look down anymore. You forget the small people."

Leticia head cocked to the side and she gave Megan an incredulous look. "You don't know shit about me."

"Says Dominic Toretto's whore, dripping in diamonds and stinking of Chanel." Megan used the tip of her pointer finger to flick the dangling diamond earring in Leticia's ear.

Okay, this bitch was really starting to piss her off.

Letty rotated her shoulder as much as she could to get Megan off of her. Taking the hint, the good doctor stood to her full height and stepped back into the shadows.

"Well, since we've got plenty of time," she started, "why don't I tell you a little story?" Leticia heard the squeak of wheels and then metal clanging against metal. Out of the darkness, Megan came forward wheeling what looked like a physician's cart, complete with a tray of very sharp objects. She stopped it directly to Leticia's right, giving the brunette the perfect view of at least two knives, a scapel, scissors, bandages, and a silver bowl filled with a pungent liquid.

Oh. Shit., was all Leticia could think.

Office of Owen Shaw, Los Angeles, 5:25PM

"I'm sorry. Mr. Shaw is in a meeting. You can't-!" The receptionist in Owen's lobby was at a loss as Dominic, Vince and Leon walked past her. With an intimidating humor, Leon ripped off the top sheet on the sign-in clipboard and gave Englishwoman the middle finger. Pushing open the door, Dominic came face to face with Owen Shaw who stood from his desk at the intrusion.

"We should have a little talk."

"I'm sorry, Mr. Shaw, they wouldn't-." Rolling his eyes, Leon shut the door in the woman's face, locking it behind him.

"You've got twenty-," Shaw checked his watch, "two seconds before security bursts through that door. Talk away." He sat back down and steepled his fingers together. The three friends stalked to his desk where Dominic sat, flanked by Vince and Leon.

"I'm only going to say this once, so I hope you're listening. Stop this attack on my family and I won't destroy you, your company and everything you've worked for."

"First, I have no recollection of any attack on your family. Second, if I did, I'd have every reason to, the way you and your," he glanced, disgustedly at Dominic's friends, "goons assaulted me. You should be happy that I didn't come after your pretty little wife. Well, personally, at least." He smirked at that. "Luckily, I've got friends in low places."

Dominic lunged across the wooden desk to grab Shaw by the collar. At that precise moment, the door to Shaw's office split in two as five built bodyguards burst into the room.

"We got company, DT!" Vince yelled, he threw the first punch that connected beautifully against the security guard's cheek. Leon engaged another, dishing out a swift kick to his guard's crotch before using all of his force to slam his elbow into his back. He went down, grabbing at Leon's leg, attempting to bring him down as well.

"I swear to god if you touch her-!" Dominic shouted. He'd lifted his fist but it wasn't able to connect before he was yanked backwards by one of the burly men assigned to protect Shaw. Dom turned a delivered a blow to his nose. He was only momentarily stunned before his fist landed against Dominic's cheek. From his peripheral, Leon watched as the last two guards pulled Owen Shaw from his office in the midst of the commotion.

"Fuck! He's getting away." Leon landed one more blow to the guard's face, rendering him unconcious before he ran from the room to follow Shaw. Vince, who looked like he was having too much fun, drove an uppercut into the chin of his guard. He then lifted his leg and kicked the man in his stomach with all the force he could muster, sending him sailing towards the desk and remaining slumped there.

"We gotta roll, DT!" Vince called, just as Dominic ducked an incoming blow that would have surely knocked him out cold. Klaus' voice sounded loudly in his ears as he threw his entire body behind the left hook, right hook, right kick combo he administered.

When it was all said and done, three guards were on the floor and Vince and Dominic stood in the middle of the room.

"I don't wanna have this conversation again." Dominic said calmly, his chest heaving.

"Come on, man." Vince panted as he ran out of the room. He turned to his left, following the commotion that sounded as if it were coming from the elevators. Dominic was right behind him, but they were halted in their tracks when a gun shot sounded with a deafening BANG!

"Leon!" Dominic called.

And as the elevator doors closed, both Dom and Vince had enough time to see their best friend's body slumped on the floor of it. The guard to Shaw's right, holding the gun smiled and waved.

Everything in Vince wanted to stop and process what had just happened, but he knew he couldn't. He'd heard what Shaw said to Dominic. Someone was after Leticia. He'd call Brian on the way. "Come on, DT! We can meet them at the ground level."

Breathing heavily and moving as quickly as their two feet would carry them, Dominic and Vince took the stairs four at a time, practically jumping down full flights of stairs until they were at the ground floor door. Pulling it open, they made it to the lobby just in time to see Shaw getting into a onyx Range Rover Sport and pulling off.

The elevator doors dinged continuously as they got stuck on whatever was stopping them from closing completely. Vince and Dom ran to their friend's body, praying to god it wasn't too late for him. Dominic knelt down and placed his fingers to Leon's pulse. Vince leaned over to inspect as well.

And then two more gunshots sounded behind them. Once hit Vince in the shoulder and the other met it's target in Dominic's back.
