CHAPTER 42:
Several months had passed, about half a year, and life sure did change from how it was six months ago. The Governor had at least thirty-five soldiers come through and break through the prison, but the prison group had scattered and hid in the forest. Besides the exception of Glenn and Maggie to hiding in the shadows and tombs, and Axel up in one of the guard towers….

Though when the Governor and his troops made their way to the prison, Martinez had a rocket launcher and shot the same tower that Axel was standing guard in. Maggie and Glenn were inside and managed to shoot down about five of the Woodbury people, while the rest sprinkled elsewhere and retreated back to the vehicles.

They two lovers set lose smoke bombs and shot off a few rounds, they weren't a violent group…but they knew it was kill or be killed. They all had worked WAY to hard to be killed be humans, they had enough to worry about with the walkers constantly approaching the gates.

Shumpert had driven the elderly inside a bus, and was less than a mile down from the prison. As they heard the explosion and the rounds going off, the old people looked at the black man for answers. But before anyone could say anything everyone was asked to get off the bus. Doing what was asked of them, the twenty or so seniors stepped off the bus. Shumpert grabbed a gun from his back pocket, and began to rapidly let off rounds in a matter of seconds!

"Has to be this way, the Governor doesn't want anyone that'll slow him down." He said in a very deep voice.

He did it. He knew he could stomach it, that wasn't the problem, the problem was his leader had gone mad. After him, Shumpert had literally annihilated all of the seniors from the bus, he drove that bus to the prison. Right as he had arrived he saw his Woodburians retreating back into the trucks. He didn't understand what was going on! It didn't seem like they were outnumbered, but losing his train of thought he saw bullets emerging from everywhere.

The Governor looked around, he should have known that the bastards were hiding, just like the cowards that they were! His men were going down at a steady pace, "fall back! Fall back!" He called out. But then mumbling, "Alright Rick, this war is not over, not be a long shot, you can count on it." Waving his arms for the men and women to race back to the cars.

The black bowmen quickly abandon his bus and hopped on top one of the cars, in the back with the others. "The others didn't make it." He let out, not like anyone was paying attention to him, no they were to worried about their own wellbeing.

As the cars raced for the exit, the same way they came in, Martinez continued to shoot while the others docked down. The driver of the first vehicle quickly sped off, with the second slowly rolling its tires through.

"Rrrr." Xavier snarled as he tried to run out from their cover. He saw the enemy, more importantly the Governor and Martinez, the Doberman knew exactly who they were.

"Xavier, no." Rachel grumbled, "Let them leave." What had confused Rachel was that Xavier was with Beth and Judith. But looking back she saw the other two females, they must have seen the first care head out, as they were hiding behind some trees.

A few days after everything had occurred, the two black siblings that had come to the prison before, Tyrese and Sasha were allowed back in, and they could call the prison their own home. They were very helpful, and did pitch in with supply runs, keeping busy, anything they needed to do to show that they were serious about staying, they did.

A council was made that included; Hershel, Glenn, Sasha and Daryl. As Rick had retired from making decisions for a while, he didn't need that hassle. In fact he took away Carl's gun and packed his own up, he just wanted to enjoy every day with his kids. Hershel and Daryl told him they would take over and he needed to get his act together. Sasha had tried to include Rachel for the council, she would attend their meetings, but not say much, she didn't feel she had a right to tell anyone how to run the prison.

Merle volunteered but that didn't go so well with Glenn, he still didn't trust the man, but their relationship had changed within the half a year, for the better! They hadn't lost anyone since the death of Axel, they made sure to give him a proper burial, the small pieces of his body that were still left after the missile tearing him apart.

Along with the prison now having a community, Rick and Carl had really bonded, as the ex-leader had begun to grow plants and garden, along with taking care of some animals. Rick and Carl leaned over the small, wooden, fenced area to see six pigs. One was lying on her side, and having trouble breathing.

Carl had grown attached to the animals and even named them, but Rick told him not to do that. After all they would be eating the pigs, cans of beans over and over were getting rather old and tasteless now. "Carl, what did I tell you about naming them?" Carl looked down at the ground, as if ashamed he called out the pig's name. "I don't know what's wrong with her, she don't look right. I'll check on her in a bit."

It has been maybe 2 weeks since she was gone. Michonne went out on her own looking and scouting for the Governor. Wanting to leave numerous times after the fatal attack the prison had taken, she didn't want to put anyone else in danger.

The night of the attack, Michonne, Rick, Rachel and Glenn had gone back to Woodbury to try to end this battle once and for all. But much to their surprise; Woodbury was no more! It was burned to the foundation, all that was left was ashes that littered the terrain. Not even a dead corpse, none of the Governor's men appeared to be burned down with the town.

Rachel and Xavier came back from scouting around the perimeter, both her, and Michonne were the two that were most worried about another attack to come. For very good reason too. For the last few months, ever since Rick stopped leading, there had been a lot of different newcomers. Sasha picked up a lot of them, and Hershel, when he did actually get a chance to get out. Surprisingly, Daryl picked up a couple too.

Rachel tried not to be at the prison to much, she couldn't rest easily, after what she had witnessed…

When the two vehicles left the prison, the second one going slower than the first and almost stalling. Waiting for them to completely exit, Rachel made a mad dash to the fence, and pounded for Maggie and Glenn to open the gate. The others that were hidden in the forest were confused on what the young woman was doing…they weren't even a hundred percent sure that the Governor wasn't going to just turn around and come back.

"Rae?" Maggie heaved as she quickly ran to the gate, and opened the padlock.

"Out of my way!" The shorter woman shouted as she had hopped in the black truck, that Beth, Carl, Merle and she were just in hours beforehand.

"No, Rae! What are you doing?"

"What is she doing?" Hershel asked while starting out of the forest, asking no one in particular.

"Getting herself killed!" Rick snarled as he tried to run after her, "Daryl, help me!" While hearing his name, Daryl was way ahead of Rick, as he made his way down a slight hill and made his way to the prison entrance.

Michonne looked shifty as she eyed Carl and Beth, and went the opposite way. She didn't know Rachel was going to do this for sure, but she had an idea, they wanted to track the Governor.

Rachel slammed her foot down on the gas pedal, swerving around first Daryl, and then Rick. Accelerating at a rapid pace up to hill, she heard Daryl and Rick cuss and call her every word, "Michonne, now." Leaning over to the passenger side of the door, to open it for her friend. Rachel rolled down both windows, and shouted to Beth, "Beth, you watch him!" She pointed to Xavier. "Watch him!"

VROOOOOOOOOOOM.

The men and women from Woodbury that went along to the prison were told to pullover, to the side of the road was an empty road. The Governor wailed on the horn roaring, "Pull the fuck over! Pull over!"

While the extended truck stopped, all of the Woodbury citizens got off the truck and shrugged, sighed, and screamed for answers from the Governor. "What was Hell was that? That was a SLAUGHTER!" A woman shrieked as the Governor and Martinez got out of their white jeep.

"I can't do that, I didn't sign up for this!" A middle-aged man shook his head.

"I won't do that again." The same, first woman yelled.

The Governor ran to the back of his jeep, fury running through his veins!

Parking the car down beside some larger trees, Michonne and Rachel quietly shut black truck's doors and tried to watch what was happening. They heard the ruckus and knew that trouble was emerging within feet away from them. Michonne grabbed her sword, not pulling it out of the holder, but just being cautious.

"Don't." Rachel quietly snarled, "We don't know what's going on…"

All of the sudden the sound of a machine gun shooting off rounds echoed through the area, screams, cries and dead bodies falling to the ground. Martinez and Shumpert watched in 'awe' as they saw their fellow neighbors being shot to the ground.

The Hispanic man and black man looked at one another, Martinez backed up into the jeep, clutching his gun. After everyone was killed, the Governor wiped his face with his sleeve and stormed off to the white car. Martinez went in the back of the vehicle as he watched a nervous Shumpert get into the driver's seat.

Michonne and Rachel looked at one another with wide eyes…. "Oh-my-God!" Rachel staggered, "Wh-what just happened?"

"Duck!" Michonne shoved his friends head down into the grass as the three men drove past them, not seeing them or the truck.
