The Sick Day: A Princess Movie

I do not own this show/movie at all. Now that that is out of the way please enjoy the story.

Sherlock curled up on the couch moaning dramatically though it was broken up by a cough halfway through. His daughter Martha had just hit play on Frozen and Sherlock was beginning to regret ever letting her see that movie. He was halfway covered by Martha's favorite blanket, a gaudy pink thing covered in sunflowers with little bees buzzing around them and he was still wearing his pajamas. He had nearly filled a small bin with used tissues from his runny nose. His chest felt like an elephant was seated on it and his head felt like it was stuffed with cotton. The last thing he wanted at that moment was to suffer through that movie again.

Martha had gotten out a bowl and a spoon and left them on the table for him saying that the empty bowl held chicken soup. She'd also gotten out her real tea set covered in realistic bees and a honeycomb pattern in gold filigree that Mycroft had given her. That was including the small golden honeycomb spoons that John had at first suspected were real gold and they were but Sherlock wasn't going to tell her that. She'd also given Sherlock her stuffed bee which he had cradled to his chest one he'd given her when it became clear she had inherited his fascination with them. She was acting much like John would have in that situation if the bowls and tea cups had been full instead of empty and if they were watching crap television instead of that Disney monstrosity.

The opening song started up and Sherlock let loose another dramatic groan. His cold would make it impossible for him to escape into his mind palace. He knew that once the Frozen movie started it would be nonstop torture until John came home and saved him from the dancing snowman. It was then that he had an idea, one that he knew John would kill him for, but to escape Frozen he was willing to risk it. He sat up and coughed into his hand his voice stuffy and hoarse when he spoke. "Martha since I am the one who's sick why don't we watch my favorite movie?"

"Mummy says I'm not old enough to watch your movies." Martha said suddenly, which was true. Most of his movies were crime based dramas and the Pirates of the Caribbean, but this one was one that John hopefully wouldn't have too much of an objection to. It was one that they enjoyed watching together many times.

"Daddy will talk to her." Sherlock said hoping that that would be enough to convince her.

The stubborn setting of her hands on her hips and her frown said otherwise. "But Mummy says…"

"It's a princess movie." Sherlock said using the best weapon in his favor desperate to watch anything that didn't have Disney on it.

Martha looked up at him with excitement nearly jumping up and down. "A princess movie!"

"Yes it's a princess movie and it's better than Frozen." Sherlock said sitting up on the couch.

"Better than Frozen!" Martha exclaimed with stunned disbelief. "Can we watch it?" Martha asked nearly jumping up and down with her hands clasped in front of her.

"Yes." Sherlock said a little too quickly but anything that would end Frozen was good with him. "It's on my movie shelf."
Martha ran over to the movie shelf and she had to stand up on her tiptoes to reach Sherlock's shelf. She looked over the movies but when she set down her heels without grabbing the movie Sherlock began to fear that he'd have to suffer through Olaf's singing again. "There's no princess movie."

Sherlock groaned and got up walking over to the shelf and plucking a dvd off the shelf. "It's not a cartoon Martha this one has real people."

He opened the case and ejected Frozen replacing it with his pick. He pressed play the instant the menu came up and retook his seat on the couch. Martha ran over and climbed up next to him kicking her feet as the movie started. She frowned when she saw the opening scene. "I thought it was a princess movie. Where's the princess does she save the sick boy?"

"It is, it's called The Princess Bride, and the princess doesn't save the boy." Sherlock said gesturing to the screen. "Just watch you'll see the princess soon."

Martha nodded and soon got interested in the movie even though it wasn't animated. She cried when the narrator said Westley died and gasped in fear when the screeching eel appeared. She cheered and hid behind Sherlock during the sword fight and the fight with the giant. She watched in fascination as the man in black and the evil man that had kidnapped the princess played a game of wit. She gasped in shock when the man in black was revealed to be the vanished Westley and pouted when the kiss between Westley and Buttercup was interrupted and skipped over by the sick boy. Then they reached the fire swamp and Martha hid from the scary swamp behind Sherlock. Westley had just been attacked by the R.O.U.S. when Martha got a scare that wasn't on the screen.

Lestrade and a team of police officers stormed into the flat. Martha cried and hugged Sherlock scared from both the intense scene and the army of strangers. Sherlock held her to his chest trying to soothe her enough that her screaming would cease. He would have stood but given his illness and Martha's weight he didn't trust himself not to fall or drop her. Instead he craned his neck far enough that he could glare at Lestrade, while the officers looked at the girl in Sherlock's arms with a mix of pity and horror. Sally moved closer to her reaching out as though to take Martha from his arms. Sherlock pulled his daughter closer to his chest as though to shelter her from the officers.

"Lestrade get them out of here!" Sherlock snapped quietly so as not to scare Martha more or hurt his throat.

"Let go of the girl." Sally snapped her hands on her hips but her eyes were wide with panic.

"Everyone out now." Sherlock hissed even as he tried to calm his daughter as she sobbed harder at Sally's harsh tone.

"You're kidding right. We finally caught you red handed. You think we're leaving now when we finally have evidence that you're a criminal." Anderson said from where he was watching Sherlock like he was a wild animal ready to strike.

Lestrade sighed heavily. "Everyone out I'll finish up here."

"But Sir the girl." Sally said sounding horrified at the thought of leaving her alone with Sherlock.

"Is his daughter I've met her before. Now get out." Lestrade said interrupting her before turning to look at Martha. "Hello Martha are you feeling better?"

She sniffled and nodded into Sherlock's shoulder still shaking from fear. Sherlock sighed as most of the officers filed out of his flat. "She's fine but I caught her cold."

Lestrade looked at the screen. "The Princess Bride? Isn't she a little young for that movie?"

"It was this or Frozen and she was fine until you lot came in here and scared her." Sherlock said haughtily trying to coax his daughter away from his neck now that the team of officers was mostly gone. Sally and Anderson were still there though and Sherlock got the feeling that she wouldn't let go of him until they left. Her sobs had transformed into sniffles now and she relaxed her grip on Sherlock no longer holding onto him with white knuckles.

"You sure it wasn't just the giant rat?" Sally sneered.

"I said out." Lestrade said and the only reason it wasn't a shout was so that he wouldn't upset Martha. Sally and Anderson slinked out of the room and when they were gone Martha peeked up at Lestrade shyly.

"Hello." She said quietly before burying her face in Sherlock's shoulder again.

"Hello." Lestrade said back before he looked at Sherlock. "Where's the evidence from the case?"

"On the table." Sherlock said gesturing with his hands toward the yellow jacket on it that had a few suspicious looking stains. Lestrade walked over and picked it up folding it over his arm as he shook his head.

"Sorry about this. I didn't think that she'd be here, usually she isn't here when we do this." Lestrade said with a frown.

"It's a Saturday." Sherlock said simply as Martha finally let go of him. He stood and paused the movie so that Martha could see the scenes she missed before the ending of the movie. Martha however grabbed onto his leg and walked with him watching the door like someone would jump out of it at any moment. Sherlock looked down at her and shook his head fondly regretting it instantly when his head rebelled at the motion.

"I'll leave you two to your movie. Goodbye." Lestrade said with a wave to Martha before he walked out of the door.

Martha pulled on Sherlock's pajama leg looking up at him with wide tear filled eyes. "Westley doesn't die does he Daddy?"

Thank yous to everyone, who read, reviewed, followed, and/or favorited and Special Thanks to a Guest. Someone is going to be in trouble when Mummy comes home, though Sherlock won't mind because John's wrath can't be worse than watching Frozen again.
