The Gamer Effect Chapter 44

(Brodur)

From the safety of his undisclosed location, Brodur conducted the campaign against the Reaper thralls known as the Batarians. The initial campaign had been met with success, but with the combination of the Reaper's high numbers and the inability of his ships to harvest the fallen to regenerate their numbers, the fight was not looking encouraging. While it would be simple to just throw more ships at the problem, other events were taking place, specifically a forum post that simply read "Icarus Fallen". The news didn't bode well, The General was arguably one of the best at what he did, and if even he was having troubles it was time to stop trying to tackle this problem alone, time to stop hiding in the shadows, it was time to take action.

Tasking his motherships to replicate themselves was an easy start, but what followed would be an insane mix of logistics and the classic "Never enough Dakka" approach. Brodur's goal for his production spree was simple; 20 Motherships, 2000 Battle Barges, 16000 Strike Cruisers, and something new. It was obvious that massive fleet battles, while effective, were not going to win this war; as a result Brodur had created a new frigate, based off of the Cobra-Class Destroyer. The difference was quite profound, with a length of 2 kilometres and triple the weaponry, it was formidable on it's own. But this ship was not meant to be used on it's own, it was meant to fight in squadrons, with four of these ships in concert almost anything was possible. They were equipped with 6 torpedo tubes, the torpedos being roughly 60 metres long with large engines, and payloads, they packed quite a punch and moved very fast. Besides torpedos were the upgraded defensive batteries, which packed a wallop and were great for formation disruption, but ideally the Cobras would harry the enemy with deadly torpedos. These ships would be the key to aiding the alien species that were also standing against this invasion.

Brodur initially ordered just 800 Cobras to be produced and launched towards Council space, with the intention of staving off the horde and saving the other species of their galaxy from extinction. One on one with a reaper, the Cobra would lose, but fighting in packs as they were meant to meant they could harass and even severely damage groups of reapers up to two times their size. Entering Council space, specifically Turian space; Brodur encountered his first problem. While doing great damage to the Reaper forces they found, the Cobras could do nothing to aid the heavily infested systems without cooperation with the Council races. This would require direct intervention, not just raiding parties.

The first thing that would have to be done was a stopgap, Brodur ceased all other production for one day and focoused solely on Cobras, managing to produce a staggering 30000 destroyers in that time. Splitting these into five strike groups, each lead by one Battle Barge and 50 Strike Crusiers, Brodur sent them to keep the ocean of Reapers at bay, one strike group per race. Resuming the initial production quota, and commanding the strike groups to skirmish with the entire Reaper front within Council space, Brodur returned to the Forums. He replied to the earlier topic with his favorite one liner, "Only in death, does duty end."

Brodur then made a post, it contained a call to action, because although the other species were viewed as lesser, they were still people, still sentient, and that made them deserving of life.

"The other species of the galaxy do not have robots to fight for them, instead they fight for themselves, risking eternal death to fight against the Reapers. That is something that should be admirable, because they fight machine with flesh and blood, and are holding out even now, hoping for humanity to get it's act together. Humanity has to act, it had the resources, manpower, and the skill to beat back the Reapers; if only we would put aside the Great Championship for a few moments and consider the other species as something other than lessers. Because let's face it, they have more balls than us, they don't get to respawn and they still fight impossible odds, and they are surviving. The least we can do is ensure that no species go extinct because of folly on our side, this has been Brodur, signing off."
