Chapter 54
Letty's POV
Before I hit the Mexican border I stopped at an ATM and took out all the money from my savings. It would be the last contact I would have with my normal life for awhile. After I crossed into Mexico I didn't know where to go. If she found out I was looking for her Camilla would be gone before I would have a chance of finding them. I decided to call up an old friend.
I pulled up in front of an old shack and a tall man came out. I got out of the car.
"Ola chica!" he said.
"You really downsized huh?" I joked walking up to him.
"Hey Letty,"
"Its been a long time Rudy," I said wrapping my arms around him.
Rudy was my cousin. We had grown up together but it had been years since the last time I had seen him.
"Yah where you been? Last I heard you married that street racer and had a couple a kids."
"Yep we got married six years ago and we have two little girls," I said pulling a picture out of my back pocket and handing it to him.
"Cute," he said viewing the picture, "So what are you doing down here?"
"I need some help. "
"Anything for you cuz,"
"Have you heard of a Cameron Herendez? She might go by Camilla?"
Rudy paused for a moment to think.
"Yah I think I've heard of her. She's part of the drug and race scene further south. Why she a friend of yours?"
"No."
I proceeded to tell Rudy the entire story.
"If you go after her you can't go like that." He told me
"I know but what can I do?"
"I know someone," he said
Three days later I left Rudy's a completely different person. We decided that to find my son going undercover was the only way to do it. I had blonde hair, blue eyes, a suitcase full of different clothing and an ID calling me Cecilia de Lairen. Rudy got in contact with a friend down south who would get me into the group down there. I could stay with him pretending to be his half-sister visiting from Chicago.
I cringed as I slipped into a pair of heels as I arrived at the address Rudy had given me. I reached to open the car door and I looked at the rings on my finger. I slipped them off slowly and held them in my hand. It was hard to let him go. I placed them in my purse and gathered up my luggage, exiting the car. I walked up to front door and knocked softly. The door opened slowly and a handsome man stood before.
"You must be Rudy's cousin. Hi I'm Lorenzo," he said stretching his hand out towards me.
I took it and shook it slowly.
"Letty, Letty Toretto but for right now I'm Cecilia de Lairen."
"Nice to meet you. Come inside." He said opening the door wider and reaching out and grabbing my bags.
I followed Lorenzo through the house and into a small room. He placed my bags on the bed before turning to me.
"It's not much but its something,"
"Thank you so much for letting me stay here." I paused letting the awkward silence fill the void.
"So, Rudy told me why you're here. Are you a racer?" Lorenzo asked me.
"Yah..uh, well I used to be. Before the whole kids thing."
"Well there's a race tonight. Cameron should be there."
"What time?"
"10:00." He said scanning my body, "But your gonna need to show some more skin."
"But that's not me."
"Yah well you're not you are you?" he said with a smirk. He took a step closer to me and my breathing hitched, "You better get some rest." He said inches away from me.
He left my room and I sat down on my bed. I took the picture of my family out of my pocket and held it close. I missed them already.
~two hours later~
I felt uncomfortable as I wore the shortest shorts I owned and a black bra as a top. Not to mention a pair of heels that where already killing my feet. I heard a knock on my door.
"Come in!" I said.
Lorenzo came in.
"That's more like it!" He said looking at my outfit.
I rolled my eyes.
"Let's go." I said.
About an hour later we pulled up to the racing scene. Music blared and cars light up the dark. Girls danced and guys hung around their cars. Lorenzo walked up to a group and they all greeted him. One guy asked,
"Who is the chica?"
"Eh! She's my sister back off!" Lorenzo said putting his arm around my shoulder to show his protection.
Lorenzo began chatting it up with his buddies and I scanned the crowd looking for her. Then I saw her. She was standing with a group of guys around her. I slipped away from Lorenzo's arm and strutted my way towards her.
"And so it begins," I thought to myself.
Dom's POV
She was gone. The girls asked for her everyday but what could I say to them? I made up the excuse that Mommy just went to say with Aunt Mia in Palm Springs where Mia now lived. But then they asked if the could go see their Mom and their Aunt. I had checked the bank account a few days ago and Letty had withdrawn all the money from our savings. She was planning on being gone for a while.
I drove the girls to school and dropped them off Monday morning. It had been a long weekend and although sad to say I was glad that I didn't have them for the entire day by myself. I decided I needed to go and see Mia. I drove down to Palm Springs to see my baby sister, hoping to find some comfort from her. I pulled up to Mia's home and knocked on the door, hoping she would be home.
Two years ago Mia ended up remarrying. A rich man from the Dominican Republic and then they moved back to the States together. But Mia never seemed to love him. Although she denied it I think it was a marriage of convenience rather than love. She wanted a father for her children and he loved them as much as she did.
The door in front of me opened and Mia stood there.
"Dom what are you doing here?" she exclaimed.
"I hope it's not a bad timeā¦." I started saying.
"No, no come in." she said pulling the door open.
A few minutes later we where settled in her kitchen with a cup of coffee in hand. I looked closely at my sister. She looked like she had aged since the last time I had seen her a few months ago. She looked tired and slimmer than last time, something I didn't think was possible. Mia reached her out and placed her hand on my arm.
"It's so good to see you," she said.
I looked down at her arm to see several bruises. I held onto her arm.
"Mia what happened?" I asked concerned.
Mia jerked her arm away.
"Nothing, I was just playing with the kids." She said quickly, "How's Letty and the girls?"
"Everything is fine with them,"
We made small talk for a few minutes but then things just went silent.
"Dom why are you here? Why isn't Letty with you?" Mia asked seeing straight through me.
I sighed and pulled the note from Letty out of my pocket and placed it on the counter in front of Mia. She picked it up and read the few words.
"Is this from Letty?"
Letty's POV
The weekend went better than expected and through Rudy's connections and quickly befriending Cameron I was invited into her "gang". It was really just a drug ring. But so far I had not seen any signs of my son. That night I sat on the beach listening to the waves of the ocean lapping up against the shore. I stared at the picture of Dom and the girls in my hand. I traced each of their faces with my finger. I missed them so much. I pulled my wedding ring out of my pocket and stared at it. But then I heard people approaching and I quickly slipped both items away. Someone sat down beside me on the sand, it was Cameron.
"So what's your story?" she asked me holding out a bottle of beer.
"I'm Rudy's cousin," I said lamely as I took a sip from the beer.
"Fine. Don't tell me then." She said slightly upset.
"Okay, I left a man behind." I said trying to make up for my previous answer.
"Why?"
"It was what I had to do, what about you? What's your story?"
"That's not something I can share with you," she said.
"Fine, do you have a guy?"
"No, but I have a little boy,"
I did my best to hold in a small gasp.
"Where is he now?" I asked.
"He stays down south with my sister while theirs a job and then I go see him."
My son was down south. Now I just had to find out exactly where he was.
Come on guys tell me what you think! Give me all your reviews and make them detailed. I write this for you and I love to know what you guys are thinking.
