The ever watchful eye of Daimon

Maya had woken up the next morning and immediately messaged Daimon to ask him when he wanted to meet up for his gift to her. He replied as she was eating breakfast after she'd gotten dressed for the day. While she enjoyed the breakfast that Josh had served her in bed the previous day, she really liked getting ready for her day before eating anything. Daimon gave her a couple of hours after her lectures for the day and so she decided to sit down at her desk with her drawing book. She wanted to bring her parents something when she visited them the following weekend and they usually preferred smaller drawings rather than canvases. Apparently they were easier to store. Before she started drawing, she unlocked her phone and started playing a playlist that she hadn't visited in quite a while. It was an instrumental playlist that was filled with a bunch of movie themes that she found motivating. It didn't quite fit the theme that she was trying to capture with her sketch, but it was certainly helping her concentrate. She went to the picture gallery on her phone and found a picture that she'd taken of Shawn and Katy back in their apartment. They were sitting in the couch with the back of their heads towards her. They hadn't known about the picture as they'd been too focused on each other and the fireplace that was emanating heat in front of them. The way that Katy was leaning her head on Shawn's shoulder let Maya know how they were both feeling in the moment even without her seeing their faces. While it was meant to be a drawing in black and white, Maya was determined to make it seem warm, which meant that the shading was very important and it was crucial that she was completely focused on the task at hand if she was going to be happy with the results. Thus, she was glad that she'd let Josh know that she wouldn't be available that day. Riley was also missing, which meant that there were no distractions around to bother her.

While Maya wasn't done with the drawing by a long shot, she had decided to pack it up just in case Riley decided to have a look at it with a cup of coffee in hand or something like that while she was away. It was coming along great though and she was looking forward to returning to it later that day. Now however, she was more focused on her meeting with Daimon. He'd sounded so serious, yet Maya had no idea what this was all about, so she was a little hesitant as she knocked on the door. Daimon opened the door and gave Maya a hug which surprised her.

"Happy belated birthday Maya!"

"Thanks." Maya smiled and returned the hug.

"So, I take it that yesterday was a good day, right? I heard from Josh what the two of you were doing, but I never actually got to see or talk to you yesterday myself."

"Yeah, my day was packed from start to finish. I barely had time to talk to my parents either. The day was great though. Josh wasn't too happy when I told him that I wouldn't be able to see him today though. What was your excuse when you told him that he couldn't be here right now?"

"I simply told him a version of the truth. I need help from someone with something very secret."

"What are you talking about? I thought this was just to give me my birthday gift?"

"Yeah, that's part of it. Here by the way." Daimon said and handed Maya a wrapped present that she hesitantly accepted.

"There's something that you're not telling me Daimon. I'm not sure that I like this."

"The gift is completely safe and it is also completely unrelated to what I told Josh. I promise I will explain after you've opened the gift." That helped calm Maya down slightly and she tore the wrapping to reveal a planner." Maya had never been one to make schedules of her day in advance and so she hardly thought she'd be able to use it effectively. It got even weirder when she realized that the planner was from September the previous year to August that year.

"Isn't it a bit late to get this?" Maya questioned. She realized that it might seem rude to ask that when she'd just been given a gift, but Daimon knew her well enough to figure out what she meant.

"Try opening it on one of the first days October." Daimon instructed her. She opened it and saw a little scribble. 'The look that she gave him as she talked to him which he seemed to be completely oblivious of.'

"What is this?" Maya asked pointing towards the lone sentence.

"Do you remember the day that I asked you out?"

"Not the exact day, but yes, I remember you asking me out."

"This was two days before that. I remembered seeing the look that you gave Josh and once I got to know you the memory somehow remained, so I decided to make a note of it. There are several of these. That first one I wrote myself, but I had some help with some of the others. Emily spent a lot of time with you, so she felt like adding her own notes to some of the days."

"Where did you come up with this?" Maya asked as she looked through several of the other pages. Most of them had at least a sentence or two."

"I noticed how hard you seemed to be on yourself and I wanted to show you just how much you're doing. I know that this is just about you and Josh, but you're doing so much for all of us and I wanted to show you just how noticeable it is. And also, how much I appreciate it." Maya gave him another hug and smiled at him.

"Thank you so much! This absolutely made my day."

"Glad I could help." Daimon said with a smile.

"Speaking of, what was it that you wanted my help with?" Daimon gave her a nervous smile and walked over to his nightstand. Maya could feel herself growing more nervous herself with every second that passed.

So I'm oficcially done with the school year which means that I should have a lot more time to write. Realistically there are 4-5 chapters left of the story so I'm hoping to finish that by the end of July at least. I keep disappearing for stupid reasons, so I don't think there's any point in me trying to promise a new chapter next week. I will try and I certainly do hope that I make it. Any predictaons on the secret that Daimon is about to reveal? Am I being completely obvious or not?

Either way, BYEEEEEEE!
