A/N: I'm sorry guys. I've been meaning to get this chapter out but things kinda just keep falling sideways with family emergencies and work. I'm really, truly going to try and update at least once a week. This story is completely written so it's really just a matter of editing it and posting it. Again guys, I'm really sorry and thank you for sticking with this story even though it seems kinda hopeless, lol. :D

Please don't forget to fave, follow, and review! It would mean so much to me and help keep my motivation up to continue on!

Disclaimer: I don't own anything but Sophia Markus!

Sophia's eyebrows rose as she looked at the body in front of her. She'd read about Wendigo's in the bestiary but she'd never seen on up close. She also thought about how that comment made it almost feel like it was an animal rather than a person but…

"I guess you've been there long enough to hear that we need to be quick about this." John said as he stepped up to join Sophia and Derek. "Scott said he called himself…"

"A wendigo." Sophia said, tilting her head and glancing at John. He nodded his head.

"Cannibalistic shape-shifter." Derek said. "But I haven't heard of them in Beacon Hills for a long time. Must have been well-hidden." Derek began looking around. "How many people did Scott say were up here?"

"Just Sean and the axe murderer, who apparently has no mouth. You wouldn't know anything about that, would you?" John said, turning to the Beta. Sophia licked her lips. Derek knew that someone else had been up here; Sophia caught the scent as soon as she came onto the roof.

"There was someone else." He said and Sophia nodded, pursing her lips. "Someone young. And male."

"You can smell his fear?" John asked.

"And his blood." Sophia nodded when John glanced over to her.

"Scott… Look, they now that there was someone else on the roof. You haven't told me anything and I'll let that slid but you really do need to fill me in on what's going on! I can't help or cover for you if I don't. Just give me a call back and I'll see what I can do. Alright? Bye." Sophia ended the call, leaving a message for Scott on his phone. She took in a deep breath before she walked into the Sheriff's Department, making her way back towards John's office. She shut the door behind her just as John began speaking to Derek.

"So we have no idea who this other person is?" He asked the werewolf. Derek shook his head.

"I have no idea who it would be." He said before both men turned their attention to the she-wolf. She shook her head, holding her hands up in a surrendering motion.

"Don't look at me. I have no idea either." John sighed, running his hand through his hair.

"Alright, so what can we do to find out?" The man asked. Sophia sighed and Derek crossed his arms over his chest. "We could take some of his blood to sample."

"I don't think there was enough at the scene to do that." Derek said, glancing at the woman beside him. Sophia pulled out her phone and glanced at the clock.

"As much as I hate to leave you guys, I have some stuff to do before work tomorrow. That includes running by the loft to check on creepy Uncle Peter." Sophia said, pointing to Derek. The wolf chuckled softly. "My cell is on if you need me, just call. I'll see you later." She said, waving to both men as she walked out. She was 20 years old but the Sheriff still didn't know about her relationship with Derek and she kind of wanted to keep it that way. She saw the man like a father and wasn't sure how he would react to her dating someone that he'd arrested for murder.

The drive back to the loft was uneventful and quiet… Sophia honestly kind of liked it. Waking the Nemeton was probably one of the worse ideas her boys had ever had. She parked in front of the loft before getting out and closing the door to the Camaro. She definitely had to make the change back over to the Challenger. While she liked the Camaro, she did miss her baby. She stepped into the small elevator, going up to the loft level. She walked over to the large doors, sliding them open. It was dark inside but she could hear Peter's heartbeat. There was something wrong with it; it was strong but also dysfunctional, almost like an irregular beat.

"Peter?" She called into the loft. It was silent. "Peter?" She said again, walking inside.

"Sophie…" She heard Peter call quietly back. As she stepped down the three small steps, she saw a body lying in the middle of the floor.

"Peter!" She called as she ran over to him, kneeling down at his side. In the middle of his chest, was a tomahawk. Sophia could just smell the wolfsbane. Peter looked over at her, his eyes half-lidded and glossy. "Just hang on Peter." Sophia pulled out her phone and quickly called Derek.

'Hello?' He answered.

"Derek! I need you to come back to the loft… like now. Peter has a tomahawk soaked in wolfsbane in the middle of his chest. I don't want to pull it out until I have some help." She said, laying her hand on the handle to test it. Peter's back bowed at the little pressure she put on it, whining high in his throat. Sophia's chest rumbled in a low, soothing growl as she turned her attention back to the phone as Derek began talking.

'I'm on my way. Just keep him calm until I get there.' He said and Sophia could hear the car door close.

"Alright. See you when you get here." Sophia said, hanging up before Derek could say anything else. She waited patiently beside Peter on the floor, lowly growling, almost purring, to keep the beta calm.

Derek all but ran into the loft, sliding to a stop when he saw his mate and uncle sitting on the floor. "Help me get him up." Derek said as he grabbed one of Peter's arms while Sophia grabbed the other one. They helped other Beta to his feet before walking him over to the table, letting him lean against it as Derek did the one thing Sophia couldn't do, which was pull the tomahawk out of his chest. Peter yelped (Sophia was sure that later on he would try to say it was a manly yelp… it really, really wasn't). He rested all of his weight on the table behind him, panting through the pain of trying to heal. Derek laid the tomahawk down on the table behind Peter as he walked closer to the pair. Sophia was carefully trying to help Peter out of the shirt he was wearing. The older beta was no help. Sophia finally sighed and let her claws out, settling for just ripping the shirt off of him.

"The Axe was laced with wolfsbane." Sophia said as she watched her mate come around the table with a lighter in his hand.

"I don't know the species so… we're going to have to burn it out." Derek said, holding up the lighter, letting Peter see the flame. Peter looked from his nephew to the little flame.

"I think I can handle a little fire." Peter said and Sophia could hear some of his sass still there. Sophia rolled her eyes. Derek smirked before using the lighter to light a blowtorch. Peter's smirk fell. "Oh, hell." The redhead turned her head away when Derek pressed the blowtorch to Peter's chest. She squinted her eyes shut as he screamed. After about a minute and the wound had been cauterized, Peter fell to the ground, panting through the pain. Derek held his hand out to the man, pulling him up when Peter grabbed it. Sophia stepped over, checking over Peter's chest. Her Alpha instincts were telling her to make sure that her beta was alright. As much as Peter hates it, he lets the girl fuss over him for a moment as he regained his breath.

"He said he was after you." Peter said to Derek.

"How does a guy with no mouth say anything?" Derek asked as though Peter had just said the stupidest thing in the world (it wasn't, Sophia had heard Peter say some stupid things). The older man reached over and grabbed a glove that was lying on the table.

"With this." He said, holding it out to his nephew. It was a normal glove but up on the forearm was what looked like a small keyboard with a set of speakers in it. Sophia grabbed it, flipping it over in her hands as she looked at it. Derek watched her silently.

"We need to tell John." She said, looking up at her mate. He nodded his head, looking back up at Peter.

"I'm fine." The older man said, waving them off before making his way towards the stairs.

"Peter pulled this off the guy's arm. It was the killer with no mouth." The Beta said, putting the device on the Sheriff's desk.

"I still don't get how this guy has no mouth." John said, picking up the device and looking it over. "I mean, how can he eat?" Sophia's brow furrowed, that's important right now? Derek's eyebrows shot up.

"Peter didn't get a chance to ask. He was fighting him off with a tomahawk buried in his chest." Derek said, motioning to his chest with his hand. Sophia covered her mouth, covering her chuckle with fake coughing. She loved it when Derek was sassy. They both looked at her before John turned his attention back to Derek.

"Yeah, and who runs around with a tomahawk?" The Sheriff asked.

"I carried one for IED removal in Afghanistan. It's military and so is that." Jordan Parrish said as he came into the office. Derek glanced between John and Sophia before looking back to the deputy.

"Do you know what it's used for?" The werewolf asked the man.

"Well, this one looks like it's been modified." Parrish answered, looking between the three of them. Derek nodded his head and John walked over to his office door, closing it before turning back to Parrish.

"Show us." He said. Parrish nodded and walked over to the computer, He sat down, plugging the device in before he began looking for whatever he was looking for. John leaned back against the cabinets behind his desk, Derek doing the same. Sophia leaned against Derek's side, not really caring at this point if John knew about their relationship.

"Okay, I think I found an IP address." Parrish said and John moved to lean beside the younger man. Sophia followed his lead.

"That means we can track him, right?" John asked. Parrish nodded.

"Definitely. Especially if…" The deputy trailed off when the glove actually moved. A whirring sound breaking into the conversation. The redhead jumped slightly, looking at the hand by her side.

"What was that?" Derek asked from behind her. The computer beeped, drawing Parrish's attention away from the glove back to the screen.

"I think I found a message. Does anyone recognize the handle "Benefactor"?" There was another beep as more words popped up. Sophia glanced behind her when Derek leaned over her, using his arms to trap her as he looked at the screen himself.

"Money transferred. What does that mean?" He asked. John stood up to his full height, sighing.

"That means this guy is not just a killer. He's an assassin." The man said, causing Parrish, Sophia, and Derek to look at him.

"Where does the IP address lead us?" Sophia asked Parrish, leaning a little closer to the man to see the screen. She felt something different about him. Not just because he was close to her age or a deputy or attractive (come on, he is!), it was something… supernaturally that she couldn't explain. He looked at her before he began typing.

"Yeah, give me a minute." He said, shifting through all of the information that he had before he pointed to the screen. "Right there." Derek and John leaned over to look.

"There?" Derek asked.

"Really?" John asked. Parrish nodded his head.

"One hundred percent." He said and Sophia nodded.

John and Derek pushed the doors open at the school, Sophia following them a second after. John had a flashlight out and his gun drawn. Derek looked over at the man as they slowly walked down the hall.

"You know, just because this guy connected to the school's Wi-Fi, doesn't mean he's still here." Derek said to the Sheriff.

"True." John answered. "But I've seen enough in this school to keep a gun in my hand when walking in after dark."

"That's right." Sophia said, smirking at Derek. Her mate rolled his eyes but continued walking. They continued down the hall before she caught something. "Hey, stop. Stop!" She whispered, causing both men to stop and turn to her. She lifted her head, taking in the smells around her. She could smell the usual smells of high school before she caught something copper-y and iron-y. She followed her nose until she came to a door, looking down; there was a pool of blood. "There's blood here." She said quietly, looking back at Derek and John. The Sheriff shined his flashlight on a pool of crimson liquid.

"That doesn't make sense." Derek finally said.

"Yeah, no kidding." John said as he turned around, making sure that no one was around them.

"That's not what I mean." Derek corrected the man. The werewolf turned to look around as well. John turned to him before looking at Sophia. "I should have caught the scent as soon as we walked in." John looked around again as Derek made his way over to the door, grabbing the handle. John jogged over to him, laying his hand over Derek's.

"Hold on." He whispered. Derek looked at the man with a furrowed brow. "You nervous makes me nervous." Derek stepped back as John shined his flashlight into the window of the door, looking inside. When he didn't see anything, he moved to the side of the door, grabbing the door handle. He glanced back to make sure that Sophia and Derek were right behind him before he turned back to the door. His gun was at the ready as he twisted the knob, he pulled the door open a little bit before shining his light inside. Derek knelt down beside the man, looking into the room. Sophia, being behind the both of them, was a little unsure of the situation.

"It's an explosive." Derek said. "A claymore." Sophia blinked, shaking her head a few times to shake out the weird sound she heard. When it didn't clear, she turned to look in the direction the sound was coming from, coming face to face with the mouthless assassin.

"Get down!" She yelled pushing John out of the way and barely avoiding the tomahawk herself. John grunted when he hit the ground. Sophia rolled to her feet, snarling at the man. She charged him, barely avoiding when he pulled out two more tomahawks. She jumped back as Derek was able to get close enough to grab a hold of the man's shirt, throwing him into the lockers before kicking him in the chest, knocking him to the ground and dropping one tomahawks to the ground. He got up, running at Derek. Sophia grabbed his free arm and twisted it behind his back, when he doubled over (more from the surprise than the pain, Sophia was almost sure), she kicked her right leg out. She hit the man's wrist, causing him to drop the other tomahawk. She released the man only to have Derek knee him in the chest before grabbing both of his arms and holding them behind his back as John got up, holding his gun to the man's face.

"You have the right to remain silent." John said and Sophia couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law." The man reached for his handcuffs, handing them to Sophia. She grabbed them before walking behind the mouthless man; she placed the cuffs tightly on his wrists. "You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one…"

"No…" Derek said softly, drawing her attention. She followed his line of sight, behind John was Peter. "No, Peter, no!" Derek yelled before he made the move to grab John out of the way. Sophia jumped back as Peter tackled the man down. Once he'd hit the ground, Peter just kept slashing at him with his claws. They watched as he pulled something from the man's body, looking at it before he looked up at them. There were very few times that Sophia saw the man even remotely half shifted. It always took her breath away how his eyes looked when they shined blue. He dropped whatever he was holding before he stood up and pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket. John stood up, aiming his gun at the Beta. The older werewolf shook his head as he cleaned off his hands and claws before he turned and began to walk away.

"We've learned a better way." Derek said to his uncle.

"I'm a creature of habit." She heard him say and for the first time since he'd been resurrected, she got chills down her spine. Something didn't sit well with her about him all of the sudden. Peter continued walking until he was out of sight. John exhaled and lowered the gun.
