A.N. Hey hey people, just thought I'd mention that I'm thinking about doing a sequel to this story but I have very little ideas as to what it could be about. So I thought I'd get the opinions of anyone who reads this. What do you want to read about? What do you want to happen? Your opinion could effect how this story could end. In conclusion, I would honestly and deeply appreciate your opinions 3
Thanks you!
He wasn't supposed to be here but he had asked the Hokage as kindly as he was able to without being false if he could interrogate the captured ninja himself, to see if he would spill more information if confronted by the Sharingan. Kakashi had to pull strings and promise a few favours but it would be worth it.
He needed to know if Obito, his former friend, was coming for May.
Underlying guilt weighed low in his gut for putting his own intentions before those of the village he had sworn to protect but Kakashi could not help it. In the end, he wouldn't be able to decide which he wanted to save more; the village filled with young and old or the woman he loved but wouldn't love him back. The Copy Ninja carefully followed behind the scarred Ibiki deeper into the interrogation department, trying not to show his inner conflict.
"What's wrong Kakashi Sensei? You're far too quiet."
"I have a lot on my mind," Kakashi started, "something about finding this ninja just seems too convenient, wouldn't you agree?"
Ibiki nodded to himself as he opened the interrogation door, "I don't believe in coincidence, there is a reason behind everything."
"Something still doesn't sit right in all this," Kakashi thought aloud.
"If you are really that against it go home."
Kakashi stepped through the open door, "Thank you for leading me here, Ibiki-san."
"Don't be long."
As expected the room was near pitch black, the only visible thing was the captured ninja wrapped up and strapped to a chair. He had to play this cool; he couldn't let this ninja know what his real intentions were. Kami! He was going to have to play this very, very carefully considering this ninja is working for Tobi; he couldn't risk May getting into any further trouble because of him. Kakashi calmly walked over to the chair and stared down his smirking opponent, "What are you planning for this village?"
The ninja just staunchly stared at Kakashi and didn't respond. It took a bit of self-control for Kakashi not to crack and start shaking answers out of him. He leant up against the wall directly in front of the captive and stared back.
"Fine, we'll play it your way."
His hand crackled violently, lightning chakra curling into his fist, and hit the captive across the other side of the room. While the captive spat out blood Kakashi briskly walked over and pressed his foot into the man's cheek
"Why are you in the village?"
When no reply was given, Kakashi pushed down harder on the man's face. He sneered at the Copy Ninja through the corner of his eyes. Kakashi had to know.
"I said why are you in the village?"
"Why are you so interested Kakashi-san?" the man chuckled lightly as he felt his jaw moving out of place, "You're not a Konoha interrogator."
"I get called upon when the occasion arises," Kakashi loomed over him, "I did the polite thing and answered your question now," he drove his heel further into his jaw, "answer mine. Why are you here?"
The man's chuckle turned into a cough but a smile drew across his daring face, "A messenger for a very special someone or some ones."
"Who are you talking about?!" Kakashi's voice rose slightly but immediately dropped back, "What is your message?"
His smirk grew, "That is private. It matters only between me and her."
Her? Her?! "Who is her?!" only seeing red the man was thrown up against the wall, Kakashi's hands crackling again with lightning.
"A man like yourself should not worry," a taunting gleam in his eyes, "she is to be my future lady whom I'll serve."
"Give. Me. A. Name."
Don't let it be her, don't let it be her, don't let it be her, please Kami don't let it be her.
"Would a man like you really put her before everything else?"
"Answer my question you piece of shit."
He laughed almost victoriously, "The man I serve calls her 'his'."
"May doesn't belong to Obito!"
The man laughed again, "She isn't yours either."
He had been caught. Kakashi dropped the man back to the floor as he realised he had been played. He was a Jounin for Kami's sake! How could he be fooled so easily? The cackling laughter brought Kakashi back to reality.
"Don't you want to save her before it happens?"
"What are you going to do to her?"
"Kukuku, who said I'm doing anything? Who said that I'm not your distraction while it happens?"
Hysterical cackling stalked Kakashi as he bolted out of the room, not noticing Ibiki calling after him. No. He couldn't be too late.
The stupid snake man slithered into his room once more with that slimy smirk of his, "Everything is going according to plan."
"You have yet to tell me the plan," Tobi snapped back at him. He was an impatient man, and he did not like to be kept in the dark.
"It's quite simple really, we're just showing your May-san how much nicer her life will be once she comes back to you."
"You are hurting her?"
"Of course not," Orochimaru bowed deeply and remained in the doorway, "I would do nothing to upset you. We are merely using someone she cares about."
'One of my other pets,' Tobi automatically thought, he could think of no one else. Perhaps one of the Akatsuki members, Itachi or Pein most likely. He got to his feet and nodded his approval, "When do you estimate she will come?"
"Before the end of the week by my calculations."
"And what of Hatake?"
"You have nothing to fear Tobi-sama; we have something special planned for him."
"He will try to stop her from leaving."
"He will be hospitalised and unable to move."
"Keep him alive," blood and rage churned in the back of his mind, plans for his former comrade encouraging him to move forwards, especially after that man tried to take what was his AGAIN, "I will deal with him when the time is right."
"As you wish."
Within a poof of smoke, Kakashi teleported in front of the familiar door and knocked rapidly. No answer. He knocked a little less politely while calling her name.
"May, are you in there?"
Still nothing.
"May!"
"What are you doing here Kakashi Sensei?" Kisame appeared down the hallway, "We do have a front door."
"Where's May?"
"What?"
"Where is she?!"
Kisame looked down on the man shaking him like a rag doll; he did not understand what was going on. He did know that he couldn't talk like this. Eventually Kakashi figured it out too and let the fish man breathe again, "She went out a while ago with the rest of the girls."
"Shit…" Kakashi backed up, "shit…" and left the house as quickly as his legs would carry him.
The silver haired ninja combed the streets, tying to spot the quartet of girls that turned heads as they walked due to their association with the Akatsuki. He couldn't see the long swishing black ponytail that he often had to stop himself reaching out to feel and undo the soft hair. Or that cheering smile that teased him endlessly. Kakashi shook his head out of the fantasy and tried to focus. She had to be around here somewhere. A spot of radiant blonde hair veered around the corner just ahead. Kakashi gave chase and ignored the strange questioning stares. He closed the distance in no time and grabbed the shoulder.
"Abi-san," Kakashi asked as she turned around with a surprised expression, "Don't ask why but I need to know where May is right now."
"Ah…" Abi pointed over her shoulder vaguely, "She went for a walk. Elle-chan was pissing her off so she went further into the forest an-"
Kakashi sprinted before the blonde could finish her sentence; May was definitely in trouble so he had to find her now. She was going to get hurt. Tobi…Obito…Kami he didn't want to think of what the sick man would do to her. He just had to find her.
Kakashi ran into the trees and went deep into the covering of trees. He knew she came into the forest when something was on her mind; he'd followed her one day after he had actually upset her at a meeting just to make sure that she was ok. And to apologise. But -
"Boo‼"
Distracted and frustrated, Kakashi didn't see the shinobi drop out of the tree but he did see the kunai heading towards his face. He flashed his own metal and jumped out of the way, retaliating on instinct, and skidded to a stop, "Where's May?"
"She is exactly where YOU left her," the stubbled man smirked as Kakashi gathered his thoughts, "behind."
"What..?"
He threw his head back and laughed, "I would be worried more about yourself than the girl if I were you."
Dirt flew, chunks of tree crashed, paper bombs that had been skilfully hidden in the surrounding area exploded and cut off the vision of the white fang. Kakashi just managed to deflect another kunai and a kick from the other direction. Two more ninjas. He couldn't see but he could sense where they were, he wasn't a Jounin for nothing. More kunai and fireballs soared at him, all of which he blocked, as he jumped out of the smoked destruction. He landed on a branch and faced his three opponents…
No…
The first man wasn't there, that meant there were four, but why were they here? Were they after him?
Or were they just trying to delay him?
He clenched his hand and prepared his chidori but a fist slammed into his knee. They would know that he would be able to get through them without much hassle. Kakashi kicked out and it connected with a body successfully. Obito would have known that. A swiping blade grazed his arm as he punched another attacker lurking in the dense smoke. Which means -
May screamed somewhere in the distance, "Let me go! Put me the fuck down you bollocking twat!"
"May‼" he called back to her and swiftly manoeuvred past his attackers. He had to get her out of the way before he could eliminate anyone. They did not want to let him out of their sight which only confirmed his suspicions.
They were merely a distraction as they took his May away.
Shuriken crept along his fingers and in a single swift movement they flew to his opponents, as they blocked the small metal weapons he ducked beneath them and singled out one. Lightning crackled in his hand once more as he sliced up, "Chidori‼"
One down, two to go.
He dashed towards the direction of the scream with two people in pursuit. Kakashi paused and turned around while making sharp blurring hand signs. A hot fireball erupted through the smoke as Kakashi blew. The split away on either side of the mass of flame, prepared to attack their target.
He didn't need to see if they worked, he could hear the struggles of May nearby. He had to save her, no one else could. He burst through the trees and found her struggling against the first man who attacked him, the man spotted Kakashi and pressed a kunai into May's back, and stopping her struggles altogether, "Move and I'll kill her."
"Kakashi!"
"Don't worry May-san, he's bluffing," Kakashi calmly lifted his headband away and sent the man into a Genjutsu so May was released and drawn into his arms. He acted too swiftly, using the Sharingan without preparation, and fell to his knees, May helping to keep him fully upright.
"Are…are you alright Kakashi Sensei?"
"I'm fine, just need to catch my breath."
"Well…I ah…" May looked away from him, pecked his cheek, and went back to her ground staring, "Thank you."
Something was off. May would not openly show affection like that especially if she was nearly kidnapped moments ago. She couldn't even admit to liking him so that definitely made no sense. Kakashi made an attempt to pull away but she didn't let go and held onto him tighter.
"You are not May."
She smiled vindictively, "Bingo."
The clash of metal on metal rang clear; blood tainted the normally beautiful nature. The ambush on Kakashi had begun.
"Hey there you are," Kisame leant out of his chair as the last of the girls finally returned from their day out, his focus of attention, "did Kakashi Sensei find you?"
May picked up her pace so the others wouldn't catch her blushing lightly, "No. Why is he looking for me?"
"I don't know, he sounded kinda distressed though."
"Yeah," Abi fell on the couch and kicked off her shoes, "he asked me about you too. He was paler than usual."
"And you guys did nothing to help him?"
"He wasn't injured, as far as I could tell."
"Yeah, just being stupid," Kisame put the chair back on all fours and sipped at his drink, "You're not concerned are you?"
"I…I don't feel right," May replied honestly, gripping onto her shirt as her stomach churned, "Where are the other two?"
"With their respected boyfriends, still bickering like a couple of possessive children."
"Then where is he? Where is Kakashi Sensei?"
"He went out to find you," Kisame chuckled and got to his feet, the issue not concerning him in the least, "Kami we just went over this May-san."
May stopped at the bottom of the stairs, one foot on the first step, and gripped tighter at the cloth of her top. She really didn't feel right. Why was she feeling this way? Stupid Kakashi always made her stomach jittery but this was different, what the others were saying, everything that had happened, something was wrong. She felt wrong. She felt so wrong.
Abi noted her friend's distress and sat up, "May, are you alright?"
"I…no…no I don't feel right. Something is wrong."
May turned on her heels and headed back out the doors, letting her feet fly her down the streets, not knowing where she was going, just going wherever her instincts were taking her. She couldn't sense Kakashi anywhere, and his chakra was so distinguishable, something was very wrong. Finally she found herself in the forest, her hideaway from troubles; she couldn't find him in the village and couldn't help but feel at fault. Familiar bark ran under her fingers as she looked to the sky, "Where are you Kakashi?"
She strolled down the familiar trail and tried to clear her thoughts, the normally light dirt beneath her feet became spotted with dark patches. Deeper dirt. May stopped her walking and started to move off the track, it looked like here had been a battle of some sort in the area, broken trees and kunai scattered around made her heart skip a beat.
"Kakashi Sensei?"
The further she went into the destruction, the sicker she felt. Why were these feelings coming to her? Blood began to make itself present amongst the scorch marks and forgotten tools, her feet moved faster and deeper into the forest. A dark lump waiting for her. The broken mess lying pathetically defeated, taunting her, screaming at her, telling her that it was her fault.
"KAKASHI‼"
