I don't own commander in chief

Rod went up to his and Mac's room to get ready for bed, he was shocked by what had happened that day and he never knew just how lonley Elizabeth was. Rod never liked to show it, but he was very sensitive.

Mac came back up to the residence and went to check on the twins. She first went to Horace's room and he was already asleep.

She then went to Rebecca's room and found her in tears.

Mac: Hay honey, how are you feeling

Rebecca: Mom, I was so scared, I thought she was going to die

Mac: It's OK darling she is going to be just fine, we just all need to be there for her now

Rebecca: James phoned her cell phone, he wants to see her

Mac: Honey the doctors won't let him in, it is only your dad and I that are allowed to see her

Rebecca: Can I not see her Mom

Mac: No honey, it's just me and Dad and we can only see her for a few hours a day, the doctors need to monitor her

Rebecca: When can she come home

Mac: I don't know baby, not for at least 2 days, but the doctor has to be satisfied that she won't try and do it again, why don't you get some sleep honey

Rebecca: Goodnight Mom

Mac: Night baby

Mac walked past Elizabeth's room, and went in, she looked at her bed, the sheets had been changed and their was no evidence of the events which took place earlier that day. Mac started to pack some things which she thought Elizabeth would need, other clothes and her favourite Teddy which Kate had bought for her the day she was born. She picked up the teddy and held it to her face, it smelled of Elizabeth's favourite perfume. Mac put the teddy into the bag and walked over to the desk where she could see the letters addressed to her, Rod the twins and Catlin, she picked them up and walked into her bedroom, the media were still speculating about what had happened to Elizabeth, but Mac and Rod had decided to keep with no comment for the moment.

Rod: Hay honey, how are you holding up

Mac: I'm OK

Rod knew his wife well,

Rod: You are not OK darling come here

He signalled for his wife to come over and she lay on the bed next to him, he wrapped his strong arms around her. At that moment Mac was trying her best to be strong and not to cry.

Mac: Do you think she will be OK, I mean when she gets home, you don't think she will try it again do you

Rod: I don't know, I don't think so, but we need to keep a closer eye on her

Mac: I know, Rod, maybe I shouldn't run for re-election, she needs us now more than ever

Rod: I think it is something we need to think about, I no longer work in the west wing so I will make sure that her and I spend a lot more time together

Mac: Do you think she will go back to school, I don't know if she will be ready

Rod: There is 6 weeks until the school's go back maybe by then she will be a lot better by then

Mac still had the letters in her hand, she showed them to her husband

Rod: Let's open it

Mac: No, she is still alive, whatever is in the letter is something which she could not tell us herself, she wanted us to know if she died, but she is not dead so I will not read it, if she wants to tell us then she will when she is ready

Rod: Are you sure, I mean reading it could give us an insight into they way she has been feeling, so we can help her

Mac: I am sure

The 2 of them talked for a while and they eventually fell to sleep.

The next morning Mac went to the Oval very early, she called Warren and asked if he could act as President that day. Mac then went upstairs and found that the kids were all awake.

Catlin: Mommy what is wrong with Elizabeth

Amy: They said on the Telly she tried to commit suicide, what does that mean

Mac walked over and crouched down in between the 2 girls

Mac: Sometimes people get a broken heart and the doctors have to fix it

Amy: Like a heart attack

Mac: No baby, their heart still works, but they get very sad and they need someone to help them get happy again

Catlin: I want her to be happy, can I see her,I will tell her funny jokes

Mac: I am sorry, but only Daddy and I can see her just now, but do you know what would make her happy, if the 2 of you made her something special

Catlin: I am going to make her a necklace, Mommy can we have some pasta, I can paint them pretty colours

Amy: I am going to make her a card,

Mac: well you 2 can do that after Breakfast and Daddy and I are going to visit her at lunch.

The rest of the family had Breakfast, and were fairly quiet
