Ron and Hermione, they have been together pretty much ever since second year.
After the troll, once the three of them were friends, Harry made them sit down and talk about their differences.
"I'm done letting people treat other people bad for something they can't control. You're different, figure out a way to live with it, you're both smart, if differently so", he announced, before he proceeded to lock the door.
Having no other thing to do, the two of them talked. They talked about how the magical world was all new and exciting for Hermione while it wasn't for Ron, about how their worlds differed and many, many other things, among them the following.
"I don't know how everyone does it!" Ron threw his arms in the air. "Reading, I mean."
"Why that?", Hermione questioned, frowning.
"The letters just keep mixing and none of them stay in place, it's so very frustrating!"
Hermione looked him in the eyes. She wasn't sure whether or not she had expected any to be there, but no hint of anything but frustration and sincerity.
"Ron, I think you might be dyslexic."
From that point forward, Ron's self confidence only grew while their arguments significantly reduced in number.
By the time third year came around, they were dating. The mess with Scabbers and Crookshanks complicated things for a bit, but they were able to find a compromise in that one of them would make sure that their pet was restrained in a way nothing bad could happen.
Nevertheless it was odd that Crookshanks didn't care for any other rats in the castle, so obviously the charms worked on him, too. That mystery was only cleared up when they learned the truth about the Marauders.
Then fourth year rolled around and Ron had an obvious celebrity crush on Viktor Krum.
It was more than awkward when he actually arrived in school.
Hermione spotted Viktor quietly hiding away in the remote corners of Hogwarts' library, reading a battered old copy of The Hobbit.
And at that point, she and Ron had a conversation about polyamory.
The next morning, they managed to get a chance to speak to Viktor Krum alone.
"Do you have to sit with the Slytherins, or could you sit… with us, perhaps?" Ron asked.
Viktor agreed and they had a wonderful time talking about Quidditch and the Lord of the Rings saga, as well as Harry's many adventures.
After hearing that, Viktor promised that he would speak to his fellow students and hope that at least some of the Durmstrang students would give Harry a hard time.
Cedric and Cho, who just happened to overhear it from the Hufflepuff table, where both of them were sitting, promised the same thing, which made Harry, who was sitting next to Hermione, blush and stutter even more than he had during the tales of his achievements.
Ron and Hermione traded a look. It looked like they had more than their own relationship to take care of.
