Drabble #53: Sorry
Eddie had just moved from America over to England, and was beginning to fit in with the rest of the boarding residents. Tonight was Honor's Night, and since he was fluent in French, had somehow managed to make the cut.
The rest of Anubis house was there, including Patricia whom had been doing good in drama (the easiest class) all semester.
Everyone's parents were there as well, watching the ceremony from behind. Each student received a certificate and a congratulatory handshake from Mr. Sweet.
So when Patricia made her way to the stage clad in a deep purple dress, and scowled when she was handed her certificate, Eddie smiled. Patricia was the last of the Anubis residents to be called up, and then after a few short minutes, the rest of the ceremony was over. Everyone clapped and cheered, then eventually got up seeking refreshments.
Eddie found Patricia in a conversation with his dad and both of her parents, Patricia looking bored. He threw on his signature smirk, then slightly trotted over to the group.
Patricia shifted uncomfortably as he stood next to Mr. Sweet, and peered at him. "So Yacker, I'm assuming that there are your parents?" Before she could respond, he was already shaking both of their hands, earning a glare from Mr. Williamson.
"Is this your boyfriend?" He asked, causing Mr. Sweet to choke on his punch and for Patricia to just raise her eyebrows.
"Yeah right. No, this is Edison, Mr. Sweet's son." She muttered.
"The name's Eddie." He interjected.
"Well Eddie, it's a pleasure to meet you." Mrs. Williamson smiled warmly at him. "We were just talking about how lovely the ceremony was."
"Ah yes, you can thank Victor for that. Like I said in my speech, everyone here has a good chance of getting into college." Mr. Sweet smiled proudly. Patricia's dad snorted, earning a smack on the arm from his wife.
"Possibly, yes. We wanted Patricia to follow in her sister's musical footsteps, but it never really worked out." Eddie noticed that Patricia looked down at her toes then, rubbing the bottom of her dress between two of her fingers. Mr. Sweet noticed the tension, and began to say something.
"As I'm sure that would have been great, Ms. Williamson is doing great at our school. She wouldn't have earned a scholarship if-"
"She wasn't, yes we know. But I think that it would've been great if she could've been more like her friends that she's met here, don't you agree? At least there's one good thing that came out of this school." Patricia looked more hurt then ever, and Ms. Williamson was constantly telling her husband to shut his mouth. Eddie just stared in awe, to shocked to speak. He hasn't heard of Patricia family issues before; she had a sister?
"Well I'm so sorry that I'm not a musical prodigy like Piper." Patricia started. Her voice was strong and clear, but eventually turned to stuttering and barely able to choke the words out. "And I'm sorry that I'm not athletic like Joy, smart like Mara, or a fashion designer like Amber."
"Patricia-" Eddie cut in.
"But what I'm mostly sorry for is the fact that I'm not this perfect daughter that you want me to be, okay? You're going to have to accept that. So I'm sorry." And with that, she gracefully ran out with tears running down her cheeks.
"I'll go after her." Eddie sighed, chasing Patricia out of the drama room, and down the hall. He though he'd lost her until he heard muffled sobs coming from around the corner.
The sight that Eddie faced was terrifying in his opinion; a teary-eyed Patricia, wiping her eyes, her head leaning back against the lockers. "Patricia... Why didn't you tell me you had family issues?" Instead of replying, she just shook her head. "Okay; they had no right to say that. All of that is completely wrong. You're not like Piper, Amber, or Joy; you're Patricia. Headstrong, brave, and independent Patricia. And that's the only Patricia I want to be with."
Patricia looked up at him for a moment, staring into his eyes. Yes, it was true; for the past few weeks there had been some romantic tension between the two.
She gave him a soft smile, as he sat down on the floor next to her, leaning her head on his shoulder. "Do you know the feeling when you're so scared that no one will like you because you're different and then you finally get accepted and it feels amazing?"
"Yeah, I do." He smiled.
"So do I now."
A/N: Wow! Another update! I'm getting good at this, aren't I? Haha I wasn't that big a fan of the ending, because I wasn't the best at wording it. Oh well! But one of my friends just told me that they are like perfectly fine with who I am, and it felt like amazing, because its the first time I've felt accepted. (It was one of my guy friends, which just made it better.)
