Tobias keeps typing on my computer for a while.
"Damn it!" he lets out a frustrated noise. I look over at him.
"I can't seem to trace down what computer it was on just that it was on a computer in Dauntless." Dauntless? "Since the computer is in Dauntless, we have access to all computers as leaders. Whoever sent this message somehow blocked us from having access from that computer."
"How about we go to the control room and look at all the rooms that have computers." Tobias thinks about it.
"I guess that could work." Just after he say that, another message pops up.
I wouldn't do that if I were you. You wouldn't find me that way.
Signed,
Your worst nightmare
I look at Tobias. Whoever this person is, knows where we are and can hear us. I hear Tobias mumble something as I go sit on the couch. I look at the time 12:09. Tobias comes and sits next to me.
"Let's go to lunch then figure this all out." I suggest.
"Okay." He say picking Cora up to carry her to the cafeteria. I want to say more, but that person can hear whatever we say.
We set Cora at our table and ask Uriah to watch her, while we get food. Tobias pulls me closer to him as we walk to the buffet.
"It's going to be okay." He mumbles in my hair. I want to ask him if it will actually be okay.
"When we get back to my office, we'll need to search it for any hidden cameras that might have been placed while we were gone." He doesn't say anything, just hands me a plate. I get pizza, salad, and water. Then I go to the table. Tobias come back to the table with lunch for him and Cora.
"I'm going to go get Evelyn." He looks at me, and nods.
The walk from the cafeteria to our home take about five minutes. In those five minutes, I try to think about the whole situation. Before I know it, I'm home. I open the door with my key. I see Evelyn, sitting on a stool in the kitchen.
"Hey Evelyn. Do you want to go to the cafeteria for lunch?"
"Hi Tris. I would love to go to the cafeteria just to get out of the house." She says with a chuckle. She slowly gets off the chair and wobbles over to the coat rack. She stand there for a minute and leans against the wall.
"Evelyn, are you okay?" I ask walking over to her.
"Yea, I'm fine. Just got dizzy. I probably stood up to fast." She says grabbing her coat. I don't fully believe her, but I let it go. We slowly walk back to the cafeteria. Once we get there we stand in line, I hand her a plate when we get up to the font. She gets chicken, salad, and milk.
We eat in silence until Uriah breaks it.
"Okay. Someone is bound to ask the question: Who's the kid? Not trying to sound rude."
"This is Cora. Her family was kill, Four and I are taking care of her." I state simply.
"Cool!" Christina exclaims.
"Well we better get back to work." Tobias awkwardly says. We all disperse throwing our trash away. We decided to walk Evelyn back. This time she slowly gets up, but she's fully standing she bends over and stays there for a moment.
"Evelyn?" I ask her.
"I'm okay."
"No you're not, I'm going to take you to the infirmary. Tobias can you go and start tearing apart my office? I be there in a little bit." My voice indicates that he shouldn't ask questions. He leaves with Cora.
"You don't have to take me to the infirmary, I'm okay." I don't say anything, all I do is lead her. We walk down the hallway and take two lefts and one right. When we get there, I go up to the front desk and grab a click board to fill information about Evelyn in. I go back to the waiting room to fill out the papers.
"Tris. I know you worry about, but I'm fine."
"Evelyn, you don't have to fake it in front of me. I can tell you're not. I want to get you help so you don't die. I'm not only doing this for you but I'm doing this for Tobias. He just got you back, I don't want him to lose you again." She nods her head and doesn't say anything.
I finish filling the papers out and return them to the front desk.
"The doctor should be out in about five minutes." The nurse tells me.
"Thank you." I quietly nod my head and head back to sit next to Evelyn.
"So…" Evelyn breaks the silence. "How are you and Tobias? Truthfully." Why does everyone keep saying that: truthfully.
"We're good. We're finally figuring out everything, untangling some knots." I say, it's not a complete lie. We untangle one knot, then tangle another knot.
"He's going to kill me for telling you this: He used to watch you from our doorway and from his bedroom window. Then when he was really little he would tell me about this little girl. He would tell be how beautiful she was." I blush, knowing he was talking about me. I also smile, a genuine smile.
"Evelyn." A lady doctor comes out. She has dark wavy hair, with hazel eyes. Evelyn and I stand up, I make sure Evelyn doesn't get dizzy. She stands up slowly. The doctor and I make sure she doesn't fall. The doctor leads us down the hallway to the examination room. She asks Evelyn to sit on the table.
"Your records say you were put on bed rest to prevent preeclampsia. Am I correct?"
"Yes." Evelyn answers quietly. I so used to Evelyn being a confident person, who doesn't fear much. She always wanted to be in charge. She looks over at me, for the first time I see true concern and worry in her eyes.
"How have you been feeling, since you started bedrest?"
"I've good, I haven't been doing much, I occasionally get up, go to the bathroom, you know easy things. Today was the first day I had been out of the house since I was put on bedrest which was three and a half weeks ago. My son, made us breakfast. Then he, his wife, and a little girl they're taking care of went to work. When they left, I watched a movie and relaxed. I got up to get water, but when I got up I had to immediately sit down because my vision was blurry. When my vision came back I got back up slowly, and when to the kitchen to get water. I started getting dizzy when I was filling my water up, so I sat down. Then Tris," gesturing over to me. "came home. Tris gave me the option of staying home for lunch or going to the cafeteria, I wanted to get out of the house so I chose the cafeteria. When I got up to grab me jacket, I had to lean on the wall because I was dizzy and my body felt numb. This didn't happen again until after lunch, when my son was about to take me home. Now were here because Tris insisted on taking me to a doctor." The doctor nodded her head, then looks at me.
"I'm glad you brought her here. I need to check your blood pressure." She wraps the armband around Evelyn's left bicep. She squeezes the air thing until it tightens then she releases it. The doctor furrows her eyebrows.
"Your blood pressure is a little below average, but not low enough to make you have dizzy spells. I'm going to do a blood test and a urine sample." She leaves the room to get the supplies. Evelyn and I sit in an awkward silence.
The doctor comes back with a cup, a syringe, and a tube. She sets the equipment on the counter.
"First I'll need you to pee into this little cup, so I can get a urine sample. When you're done, I'll take some blood for a blood test." She hands Evelyn the cup. While Evelyn is doing her 'business' the doctor and I make small talk. Evelyn comes out a few minutes later and hand her the cup. The doctor motions Evelyn to sit on the table. She cleans the syringe. "You'll feel a little pinch when I inject the syringe."
She inserts it and slowly pulls a little bit of blood out. When she pulls the syringe out of her arm she transfers it to the tube. She walks out of the room and goes to the labs.
"The test take 1-3 hours to complete, in the time we would like Evelyn to say here, so we can keep an eye on her. You may stay if you like or you may leave." She says as she walks in.
"I'll be fine, Tris. Go help Four with whatever you two were doing." Evelyn cringes when she says Four instead of Tobias. I nod indicating that I'm going to go help Tobias.
*Time skip to when she's entering her office*
"Hey." I say entering my office. I look around, all the stuff that was on my book shelf is now on the flood. Tobias is sitting in the middle searching a small block of wood that says 'Be Brave' in cursive. I don't remember getting that, maybe it was a gift.
"Hey. Where'd you and Evelyn go?"
"I took her to the infirmary." I vaguely say. I take my shoulder bag and jacket off and hang them on the coat rack.
"What happened? Are you okay?" He eyes are suddenly filled with concern.
"When I pick Evelyn up for lunch she got really dizzy when she stood up. Then same thing happened after lunch when she stood up to leave. She told the doctor that it had happen earlier this morning too. The doctor took her blood pressure, but that was a little bit above average but not high enough to make her dizzy. Right now they're running urine and blood test. They're keeping Evelyn there while they complete the test. Evelyn told me to go back to work, so here I am." I tell him.
"Is she going to be okay?"
"I hope so." He goes back to investigating the block of wood. This is a touchy subject for both of us.
"When did you get this?" Changing the subject. I shrug my shoulders.
"I don't remembering buying it or getting it as a gift. But the thing is, it looks like something that I would have, considering what it says on it. Do you think that's how s/he can here and see us?"
"Maybe."
