Chapter 54:
Quinn laid on her bed just after dropping Rachel off, the blonde placing the last velcro strap around her shoulder to hold her ice pack. The blonde still not knowing how to broach the subject with her girlfriend… How was she? The softball captain turned to her bedside table lifted off her laptop and her iPhone. Quinn scrolled to her second favorite and clicked call, she knew someone would be able to help her.
"Hey Luce… You're a little early for our phone date," Hayley smiled through the phone.
The blonde gave a smile small, "Are you busy? I can call back later."
"What's wrong?" Hayley stated hearing the worry in her best friends voice.
"I just… I think I've screwed up," Quinn sadly said. "But… But if you're busy, I'll go," the blonde added.
"I'm not busy, I'm just walking into my dorm room, just finished practice," Hayley stated. "So what did you do?"
"I think… I cheated on her," Quinn said softly.
Hayley paused for a few seconds, not knowing what to say. Quinn was just about to see if her best friend was still on the line when she heard that someone was calling her through Skype. "Really?" Quinn said with an actual smile on her face.
"Just answer the video call," Hayley stated seriously, the brunette needed to look at her best friend while they were having a conversation like this.
"Is Jazmine there?" Quinn asked as she answered the video call, yet still on her phone.
"No she's probably in the library… She tends to stay there a lot, seeing as I have a lot of male visitors," the brunette chuckled, then looked at her phone, shook her head with a smile and hung up, choosing to just communicate through Skype.
"You know she's probably a virgin, you're probably overwhelming her with your night activities," Quinn chuckled.
Hayley laughed, "She is, I asked her."
The blonde just shook her head, "You shouldn't ask a person that." The college student just shrugged. "Well I admire her for waiting for the right person… Hopefully her first experience will be better than mine," Quinn stated seriously.
"Tell me about it," Hayley chuckled.
"What was your first time like?" Quinn wondered.
"I was a junior and went to a school party, got drunk and ended up having sex with a senior guy in the backseat of his car," Hayley laughed as she shook her head, "What about you?"
"Well it was with Emily," Quinn stated, Hayley nodding because she knew that, "We went to a party where I didn't know anyone, we got drunk and ended up upstairs… We had sex all night though."
"That doesn't sound that bad," Hayley voiced.
"Oh… Well I forgot to tell you that some guy walked in and asked to join," the blonde stated with a smile, Hayley bursting out in laughter. "That's not the worst part, we told him to fuck off and then the next day we got told he stood at the closed door to overhear us and wanked himself."
Hayley just burst out laughing, "That's disgusting."
Quinn nodded seriously. "Plus… It's not like I actually knew what I was doing, Em's older than me so she had a lot more experience than me… But hey… I got off and Emily wanted more so I must have been doing something right," Quinn chuckled.
"How old is Emily?" Hayley wondered.
"She's actually your age," Quinn voiced with a small smile.
"Seriously? So she'd be in college now?"
The blonde shook her head, "The end of a school year in Australia is December so if she even went on to do year 12 she'd be finishing at the end of the year… But I highly doubt she did."
Hayley just nodded, "Okay… Are you going to continue to use displacement because this isn't very constructive… What's going on?"
Quinn couldn't help but laugh out loud, "Someone's liking their Psychology subject a bit too much."
The brunette just smirked and shrugged. "Tell me what you did, Lucy," Hayley voiced seriously.
"Well I… I kissed Allison," the blonde said, not looking at her best friend through the computer screen.
"Bull shit," Hayley stated seriously, "Is this a joke? Because it's not very funny."
Quinn shook her head and looked back at the screen, "What do I do, Hayls."
The brunette just stared at her best friend, scrunching up her eyebrows confused, then shaking her head, "No… I don't believe you kissed that bitch… You need to tell me exactly everything that happened," Hayley voiced. "There is no way you'd do that to Rachel," the brunette added.
The softball captain took a breath and then replayed everything that happened between her and Allison in the locker room to her best friend.
After the brunette was filled in she looked empathically at her best friend, "Lucy, you didn't cheat on Rach."
Quinn shook her head and rubbed her eyes, she wasn't crying but she was definitely trying to hold the tears a bay, "Yes I did, Hayley."
Hayley shook her head, "No you didn't. Allison kissed you." The blonde just continued to shake her head. "Look… Did you want Allison to kiss you?" Hayley asked.
The softball captain stared straight at her best friend, "No."
"If Allison asked to kiss you would you have let her?"
"No," Quinn stated seriously.
The brunette nodded, "When she kissed you did you feel any emotions towards it?"
Quinn shook her head, "No."
"Did you kiss her back after she kissed you?" Hayley voiced.
"No! You know I slapped her," the blonde stated seriously.
Hayley nodded, "See… You didn't cheat on Rachel, Luce."
Quinn replayed the memories in her head, "So I didn't cheat on Rach?"
"No you didn't," Hayley whispered out.
The blonde sighed a sigh of relief, "Fuck, I thought I messed up… I thought I was going to lose her, Hay."
The brunette gave her best friend a small kind smile as she shook her head, "You're not." Quinn nodding while Hayley continued, "You know you really are a dumbass sometimes," the brunette voiced with a laugh.
Quinn just glared at her best friend, "How am I suppose to know that stuff. I was allowed to kiss anyone I wanted when I was with Emily. Everything with Rach is different."
Hayley nodded, "Yes I know… You need to realize you're not your old self anymore… So stop looking back at it and believing you're still her," the brunette stated softly, yet seriously.
The blonde nodded. "Forgive yourself, Lucy," Hayley voiced.
Quinn just bit on her lower lip. "Should I tell Rach what happened?" the blonde asked, obviously changing the subject, she knew the answer to that question.
Hayley forced a sad smile but nodded, "You and Rachel don't keep secrets, right?"
The softball captain nodded. "Then that's not a question I need to answer," the brunette expressed.
Quinn nodded and then looked at the brunette through the computer screen, "Thank you," the blonde voiced honestly, Hayley just smiled and shrugged. "No really… Thank you. Even when I thought I cheated you were the one that didn't believe I could do such a thing… So thank you for not just helping me… But also believing that I'm better than I once was."
Hayley smiled as she nodded, "You are better. Rachel's not the only one that can see it… Your past shouldn't be what defines you… You're the only one that needs to realize it."
The blonde just smiled and nodded at her best friend.
Later that night Quinn knocked on the Berry's front door and waited for someone to answer. Hiram opened the door and smiled at the blonde, "Sweetie, what a surprise," Rachel's father expressed as he stepped aside for the softball captain to enter. "Are you hungry? I made some lovely pasta for Rachel and I for dinner, we have leftovers if you want some," Hiram smiled.
"No thank you, I was just wondering if Rachel's home," Quinn expressed.
Hiram nodded, "She's upstairs in her room… You can go up if you like."
The blonde nodded and then walked through the hallway and up the stairs, stopping at her girlfriends opened door. Quinn knocking on the door and watched her girlfriend's head pop up from her elliptical machine. Rachel gave her girlfriend a kind smile as she grabbed her towel, wiping off the sweat on her forehead and hopped off the machine, "Lucy, what are you doing here?"
"What are you doing working out? I thought you only do that in the morning," Quinn expressed as she stepped into her girlfriends room.
Rachel nodded, "I do… But seeing as I spend a lot of time at your place I can't do it every morning… Plus I also do it to clear my head."
"Is everything okay?" the blonde wondered as she pulled her girlfriend in a hug.
The brunette nodded against her girlfriends shoulder, "I think so."
As they pulled back Rachel looked at her girlfriend, "So not that I mind this surprise visit but I thought you were just going to call me tonight before bed."
Quinn nodded as she moved to sit down on her girlfriend's bed, "I was… But I think I need to tell you something that shouldn't be said over the phone."
"Tell me what?" Rachel expressed as she sat down next to her girlfriend.
The blonde turned to face her girlfriend, "Something happened in the locker room when I was grabbing my things to leave this afternoon."
The brunette nodded in understanding, "I know," Rachel whispered out.
Quinn's eyes went wide in surprise, "You know? How do you know?"
"I came in to see what was taking you so long and I overheard the conversation you had between Allison," Rachel confessed.
Quinn just sadly nodded, "I'm so sorry, Rach."
"It's not your fault, Lucy," Rachel said as she reached over and grabbed her girlfriend's hand, "I heard the whole interaction," the brunette added.
The blonde looked remorsefully into her girlfriend's brown eyes, "I didn't know she was going to kiss me, I swear… If I did I would have stopped her…"
Rachel pulled her hand out of the blonde's embraced and held it up to stop her girlfriend from talking, the brunette then moved to sit on the softball captains lap, leaning down to place a chaste kiss on her girlfriend's lips. As she pulled back brown eyes connected with hazel, "Thank you for telling me."
Quinn nodded, "You had a right to know, baby… We don't have secrets."
The brunette nodded, "I believed that you were going to tell me… I was going to bring it up in the car but I knew you needed time to process what happened… And I think I needed time too." The blonde nodded. "Come lay down?" Rachel expressed as she moved herself off her girlfriend and positioning herself on her bed to lie on her left side.
Quinn moved around the bed and positioned herself to lie on her right side but she groaned out in pain when her right shoulder squished into the mattress; the softball player immediately rolling onto her back. Rachel sat up straight away, "Baby, what's wrong?"
The blonde moved her hand up to her right shoulder and started to rub it, "My shoulder… I think I pushed it a little too hard today."
"I'll go get you some ice," Rachel stated immediately as she slipped off the bed.
Quinn shook her head, "It's okay, Rach."
The brunette just shook her head, not listening to her girlfriend, "No you need it, Lucy," Rachel stated as she walked out of her room.
When the brunette arrived back in her room she saw her girlfriend lying on the bed massaging her shoulder with her eyes closed. Rachel walked into her bathroom and grabbed out some moisturizer, she walked back into her room and sat on her bed, moving closer to her girlfriend, "Baby, sit up."
Quinn opened her eyes and smiled, sitting up like she was asked. "Take off your top, I'll give your shoulder a massage," Rachel whispered out as she placed the ice pack down on her bed.
The blonde nodded and smiled, moving her hands to the hem of her WMHS top she changed into from her Easton t-shirt she wore during softball practice today; the blonde sporting a black and green sports bra underneath. Rachel moved closer to her girlfriend, positioning herself behind her. The brunette squeezed some lotion into her hands and then started to massage her girlfriend's right shoulder. "You need to make an appointment with Claire," Rachel voiced.
Quinn nodded, "I was going to call her tomorrow and ask if she had an opening tomorrow afternoon."
The blonde groaned out when Rachel touched a sensitive area on her shoulder. "I don't think you should go up to Capital University this weekend, baby… You need to rest your shoulder," the brunette added.
"I need to go, I missed half of practice last Saturday to go see Michael play… But if Claire says I shouldn't go than I won't," Quinn expressed.
"Okay… But tell her that it hurt when you laid on it… That's never happened before," Rachel voiced nervously.
Quinn turned her head to look at her girlfriend, "It's just a bit stiff, baby… It will be fine… But I promise I'll tell her."
Rachel smiled and nodded as she squeezed more lotion in her hands, and started to massage her girlfriend's shoulder again. Hiram then walked up to his daughter's open door and stepped inside, "I'm not interrupting anything am I?"
The couple looked up and shook their heads. "Are you okay, Sweetie?" Hiram voiced to the blonde.
Quinn smiled, "Yeah, shoulders just a bit sore today."
Hiram nodded. "Were you after anything, dad?" Rachel wondered as she continued to massage the blonde's shoulder.
"I was just wondering if you two would like to watch a movie? Your father is on-call tonight so won't be coming home. Are you two interested?" the man said with a kind smile.
Quinn and Rachel looked at each other, "I don't mind," the blonde expressed.
The brunette nodded. Hiram smiled and nodded, "I'll go pick a variety of DVDs out for us to pick from."
Hiram slipped out of his daughter's room. Rachel then moved to place a soft kiss on her girlfriend's shoulder then slipped off the bed picking up the moisturizer and then walking into her bathroom and then washing her hands. When she came out she saw her girlfriend putting her shirt back on and grabbing the ice pack off the bed and placing it on her right shoulder.
Once the couple got into the living room Quinn and Rachel sat together on the couch. Hiram smiled at them, "Okay, so I picked out a selection that has all different genres… But I was thinking something from the horror section," the man beamed out.
Rachel couldn't hold back a giggle as she looked at her girlfriend. "You told him didn't you," Quinn said as she playfully glared at her girlfriend.
The brunette quickly shook her head, "I promise, I didn't."
"Am I missing something?" Hiram voiced.
"No," Quinn quickly said.
Hiram just shrugged, "So what do you girls want to watch?"
"How about a musical?" Rachel beamed from her spot.
The Berry man pouted, "As much as I love musicals Sweetie, you know your daddy always wants to watch one, and seeing as he's working I thought we could watch something else."
The brunette giggled, "Okay, comedy or drama… I'm not up for a action, thriller, or horror movie tonight."
Hiram beamed as he nodded, "Perfect… Why don't you set one up and I'll go make some buttery popcorn for Quinn and I… Did you want some of your vegan popcorn, Honey?"
"Some lemon gelato sounds perfect, dad," Rachel smiled as she stood up.
"Quinn, you fine with some popcorn?" Hiram asked just before he was about to walk out of the room.
"Actually, do you mind microwaving me some leftovers from your dinner? I haven't eaten dinner yet," Quinn voiced from her spot on the couch.
"Quinn!" Hiram scolded, "Why didn't you tell me? You have to eat dinner, Sweetie."
The blonde tried not to laugh so she bit on her lip and shrugged, "Sorry."
The Berry man just shook his head, "I'll get you a big bowl," Hiram nodded seriously as he walked out of the living room.
Rachel turned to her girlfriend and started to giggle at her, "Someone's in trouble."
Quinn just chuckled and nodded, "Will he ground me?"
The brunette's giggle turned into a laugh as she grabbed a DVD off the stack her dad left out and walked over to the DVD player to set up the movie.
Quinn walked out of the shower as she dried her hair with her towel, hearing the hotel phone ring. It was Saturday night; the blonde was up in Columbus for softball practice with the Capital University softball team. The softball captain managed to get an appointment with her physiotherapist, Claire, and her shoulder was doing fine. The blonde's shoulder isn't use to this amount of training she now has on her plate, so instead of monthly visits to her physiotherapist it has now changed to every fortnight.
The blonde walked over to the king size bed and sat down as she picked up the phone, expecting it to just be something about her food she ordered for room service because she's never had any company on her stays up in Columbus before. "Hello?"
"Ms. Fabray, I have a Rachel Berry here wanting to see you," the receptionist voiced nicely.
Quinn beamed, "Could you give her a key, and also place the best vegan meal your chef has on the menu to come up with my other order, please?"
"Of course, Ms. Fabray. I'll send up Ms. Berry right away."
"Thank you," the blonde smiled as she hung up. Quinn went to her bag and slipped on some pajamas, then hopped on the bed and flipped opened her laptop, scrolling through what she was doing before she jumped into the shower.
The blonde heard the sound of the keycard clicking and then heard her girlfriend's voice, "Surprise!" Rachel beamed out.
Quinn chuckled as she placed the laptop next to her and hopped off her bed, going to meet her girlfriend. Rachel wheeled her bag inside the hotel room as her other hand clung onto a bunch of white roses, the brunette beaming when she saw her girlfriend. "Definitely was a surprise, baby. What are you doing here?" Quinn expressed as she closed the gap between her and her girlfriend, and planted a kiss on her girlfriend's lips.
As they pulled back Rachel shrugged her shoulders, "I just missed you… And these are for you," the brunette smiled as she handed over the bouquet of white roses. The blonde took them with a smile on her face as she leaned down to kiss her girlfriend again.
"You're adorable… Thank you," the softball player expressed. Quinn then walked over to the table and placed the flowers there.
"So what do you do all by yourself while you're here?" Rachel wondered as she put her bag next to her girlfriend's one.
"Not much actually. It depends what time Anne lets us off. Sometimes I go to the Saturday night church service or I come back here and go down to the spa and get a massage. Then have a early sleep," Quinn stared at her girlfriend, "But you know all that because I call you every Saturday night I'm here," the blonde smiled.
Rachel nodded as she giggled, "Yes… I guess I was just making light conversation… So what were you just doing?"
"Just doing some research," Quinn voiced with a smile.
"Research on what?" the brunette wondered.
The softball captain smiled as she walked over to the bed and positioned herself against the headboard, picking up the laptop and placing it on her lap. Rachel moved to position herself next to the blonde. Quinn logged back on and then pulled up the web-browser she was just on, and then handed over her laptop to her girlfriend.
Rachel looked at the screen and smiled, then turned to her girlfriend, "Citizenship?"
Quinn nodded, "Yes, I'm starting to do research on it."
"And how is it coming along?" Rachel asked as she handed back the laptop and then moved to snuggle next to her girlfriend.
"Well I actually have to be eighteen," the blonde expressed.
The brunette scrunched up her face, "But you're emancipated."
Quinn nodded, "Yeah, I actually thought that could help me, but it can't, I still have to wait till I'm eighteen… Though I should apply for a green card first which will help the process to achieve my citizenship… I can do that…and being emancipated helps that I don't need parental permission, even though mum and dad already know I'm applying."
Rachel nodded, "So how long do you need your permanent residency for before you can become a citizen?"
"It says five years… But because I'll need it to represent the USA team they may make the process a lot faster… Like if I was married to a U.S citizen I'd only need to have my green card for three years," Quinn voiced.
The brunette giggled, "You're not going to propose to me to get your citizenship faster, are you?" Rachel joked.
The softball captain chuckled, "I bet you wish I do… But no."
Rachel smiled as she turned her eyes back to the computer screen, noticing another tab in safari up, "What's that?" the brunette voiced as she pointed to the little bar that read Make-a-Wish.
The blonde looked at the tab and clicked on it, "It's one of the charities I give to…" Quinn trailed off and then remembered something from summer break, "Oh… You still have to tell me which foundation you want me to give money to… Remember that pair of Tiffany & Co diamond earrings I didn't buy for you."
Rachel giggled, "Yes, I do remember. And I've actually looked through a variety of different charities… There's so many out there."
The blonde nodded and then went into her documents and opened a Word file, "These are all the ones I give to," Quinn stated.
The brunette started to scroll through them, there was around 20 on the list, from cancer councils, to safe lines, to gay and lesbian foundations, to child rescuing, and child cancer institutes. "What's this one," Rachel wondered pointing to a Barnardos Australia.
"That's a foster care and adoption foundation," Quinn stated with a shrug.
"Is that something you and your family are passionate about?" Rachel wondered, she's never heard Lucy or her family talk about foster care or adoption before.
"Not really my family… It's more of a personal thing," the blonde stated.
The brunette smiled, "Do you care to elaborate?"
Quinn chuckled and nodded, "Okay… Well I think that there's a lot of children out there that need a home, and I'd like to help in anyway I can."
"So are you saying you'd like to adopt?" Rachel wondered.
The blonde shrugged, "I haven't really thought of that, just like you know I haven't really thought to have a child… Well that's because of Fran and Wyatt."
Rachel slowly nodded, "Has Fran thought about adopting?"
Quinn shook her head, "Not that I know of… But I doubt it because she's going back to university."
The brunette nodded again, the softball player smiled as she turned her head to her girlfriends and leaned over to place a kiss on Rachel's forehead, "So have you picked a place you want to give to?"
Rachel looked at her girlfriend, "There's a few… I can't pick which one."
Quinn nodded, "Okay, which ones are they?"
"Well there's one called the All-Stars Project, which is devoted to music education for youth… Then there's the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society… Because well," Rachel trailed off. Quinn smiled, touched by her girlfriend, "Go on, love."
"There's an LGBT one called The Point Foundation, and also I was thinking of using the money you were going to use for the earrings for a research grant to the Association for Applied Sport Psychology… Because… You know… I think it's important that research goes into Sports Psychology, especially to focus on people overcoming and dealing with a catastrophic sports injury," Rachel expressed nervously.
Quinn moved her hands up to Rachel's cheeks and then leaned over to passionately kiss her girlfriend, overcome by the love she has for the brunette.
As they separated the brunette gave out a sleepy smile, "What was that for?"
"You're just incredible, baby," the blonde expressed. Rachel shyly smiled. "I think the money should go to the All-Stars Project, baby… And I'll put all of them on my list so that next time I donate money I'll give to one of them," Quinn voiced.
"Well it does have stars in the title so it does seem fitting," Rachel smiled. Just as Quinn shook her head and chuckled at her girlfriend there was a knock on the door. "Room service, Ms. Fabray," a male said.
"You can come in," Quinn stated as she closed the laptop and hopped off the bed, the couple then walking to the living room area of the hotel room. The man placed the trays of food and drinks on the coffee table and then stood up to address the blonde, "Is there anything else I can do for you before I go, Ms. Fabray?" the man said kindly.
Quinn smiled and shook her head, walking over to the man and giving him a tip, "What you've already done is great. Thank you, Rupert," the blonde expressed as she quickly looked down at the nametag to say his name.
The man smiled as he turned to leave to room, taking the cart with him.
Quinn sat down on the couch and took a sip from one of the glasses of juice, Rachel joining her. The blonde turned to her, "So I ordered a vegan meal when you were coming up."
The brunette smiled as she took a sip from the other glass of juice. Quinn then lifted up the metal cloche of one of the plates and spotted her vegetarian pasta, Rachel leaned over to look at her girlfriend's choice of food and smiled, "Where's your meat?"
Quinn turned and smiled as she shrugged, "There is none… Just got a lot of carbohydrates… Help with practice all day tomorrow."
The brunette smiled and lifted up the other two metal cloche, one was a plate of garlic bread she moved over to her girlfriends side of the table and the other one was risotto. "So how's your shoulder?" Rachel expressed as she picked up her bowl and leaned back into the couch cushions.
Quinn turned and smiled as she raised her eyebrows, "So that's why you came! You wanted to check up on me?"
Rachel swallowed what was in her mouth and then spoke to her girlfriend, "Excuse me?" the brunette asked trying to look confused but Quinn saw right through it and started laughing.
The brunette then started to giggle, "Okay! I apologize… I may have had an ulterior motive for coming to visit you. I just wanted to make sure your shoulder was okay after practice."
Quinn leaned over and placed a kiss on her girlfriends lips, as the blonde pulled back she smiled as she looked into brown eyes, "I love you, baby… And my shoulder was and is fine, you know Claire wouldn't have allowed me to come if it wasn't."
Rachel nodded, "Yes I know," the brunette smiled, "And I love you, baby."
The couple smiled at each other as they begun to eat their dinner.
