We made it to 50 chapters. I've never reached this far in ANY story.

Chapter 50- I meet the frog of doom

It was this very moment the earth stood still.

Not literally because that would be bad, but for me it pretty much did.

And it was fear that rattled inside my very essence.

Oh fear. People don't define it enough. They don't explain it enough. Place me in a dark room full of my phobias and it would never compare to what I was reacting to now.

My baby- gone.

My mate- gone.

And the cold, winter breeze brushed against my skin in a room full of disaster.

It was just…not my day - really not the greatest start to my New Year. I would love to restart it thank you very much and goodnight.

My phone fell out of my hand, the screen shattering, but I ignored the smashing sound as my eyes fell back out into the dark, forest horizon of these lands. Sesshomaru was nowhere in sight. It was just darkness. I didn't like it. I didn't know what to do. Downstairs people were having fun. People were partying.

I really didn't want to be a party pooper, but I couldn't help it anymore. I was never really a party person anyways.

I grabbed my broken phone off the floor and ran out of the room, racing down the stairs to where the music was as loud as ever. I didn't know who to ask for help. I didn't know where everyone was. The music…the music was too loud. My heartbeat was beating out of my chest. Adrenaline pupped through my body.

"Shit," I muttered, stopping at the bottom of the stairs, hesitating to which way to go.

I ran up to a random couple drinking in the foyer. The cat girl was obviously wasted while her cat demon partner kept passing her intimate glances. Either way, I still went up to them.

"Please you have to help," I blurted out. "My baby…Sesshomaru….help me."

They looked at me, the male raising his eyebrow while the girl laughing. "Oh you must've taken some strong drug there!"

My jaw dropped a bit, and I shook my head. "I'm not on drugs!"

"Whatever you say!" and I watched her grab her partners arm and drag him back into the ballroom. I stood there flabbergasted until I noticed Ayame leaving the ballroom shortly after. I ran to her, my mind more panicked than before.

"Ayame….please…"

She blinked to me, her eyes glass-like. She was drunk. Crap. "Rin!" she smiled. "There you are! Did you the fireworks? They were like BOOM!" she waved her arms exaggerating the moment.

I shook her shoulders. "No, Ayame please…"

"You didn't see them?"

"No…I…"

"Oh, Rin can you stop shaking me I think…I am…ugh…"

I clenched my teeth and stood back. "Can you just shut up and listen?!"

She froze; her eyes wide like a pair of googly eyes. She blinked and I watched her.

"Saika has been taken…Sesshomaru is gone after her! I need help! I need…I need…" my breathing became shallow. "…I…Saika…"

And here comes the panic attack. Crap.

"…Sesshomaru…"

I felt Ayame's hands on my shoulders. "Ok, Rin…you have to breathe… we'll figure this out. Come on."

She moved me to the stairs, sitting me down. My hands shook as she lowered me. Her hand gripped my elbow as she sat down next to me. She pulled out her phone and dialed 119. This was real. This was happening.

I could hear her voice. I could hear her asking me questions on what was happening as she replied back to the voice on the other end of the phone. All I could do was mumble that Saika was taken and Sesshomaru had followed. I added the nursery had been destroyed. Fire. Burnt walls. And I requested Ayame to tell the dispatcher to get Agent Kagura Sato over.

I bit my lip. A little too hard. I tasted the metallic liquid. My hands moved to my hands, burying my fingers in my hair. Head lowered. Teeth and jaw clenched. My heart beat strongly in my ears. My eyes began to fill with the familiar wet feeling of tears. But I refused to cry. I clenched my teeth harder, growing frustrated. My baby was just kidnapped and here I was sitting here doing nothing. Sesshomaru be damned, he was going to have a mouthful when he was going to come back. I was doing the right thing. X was playing some stupid game. I called the police, FBI, whatever. I was done.

Done.

But my body didn't stand up. Not right away. My legs felt like overcooked macaroni and if I stood up, I would only be pushed back down to the ground. Damn gravity. Damn legs. Damn melted cheese.

I felt Ayame's hand on my back, rubbing it in slowly circles. She was trying to comfort me, I knew she was, but every circle drawn made my skin crawl more. And more.

And more.

I couldn't deal with comfort. My nerves were too heightened, my energy too much. I just wanted to find my daughter and mate.

Before I should shake her off, a loud knock echoed through the foyer, bouncing off the marble floors and faded into the booming music twenty feet away. I raised my head as Ayame walked over to the door, opening it to two police officers.

Two.

That was all there was.

I stood up as they came in. My mouth fell open a bit, watching their eyes lead to mine.

"Are you Rin Ikeda?" a male officer, a human asked. His voice was stern and controlled, calm. His eyes…they didn't read of panic. Why didn't they read of panic?

"Two?" I started, trying to control the panic and anger racing through my entire system. "Where are the others? Are they out finding my mate and my daughter?"

"Ms. Ikeda, we can't do any sort of actions until we've assessed the problem," he answered.

"Problem?" and here comes the anger in my voice. "My daughter's nursery was destroyed, she's been kidnapped, and my mate is now god knows where. So, don't tell me that the problem hasn't been assessed. You should be having demons tracking them down!"

The demon officer stepped forward. A rhino demon - his large horn stuck out intimidatingly from his face. His black eyes pierced through your every being. I was a bit taken back from his appearance, but stood up ground. "You are going to have to calm down a bit, Ms. Ikeda," his voice was deep, but calm like his partner. He had a way to settle my nerves a tad. "We'll get everything sorted and find both your daughter and your mate."

I sighed, heavily. "Fine, where's Agent Sato? I need to talk to her."

"She'll be here soon. First, we need to clear all the people that don't live in this household out."

"But there are at least three hundred people here," Ayame answered. "Most of them drunk out of their minds."

"I'm sorry, but we can't call back-up until we have them cleared. Once that has happened and my partner and I have looked over, back-up will be called and things will be moving."

I shook my head. "This is bullshit," I muttered, turning around.

Ayame sighed. "I'll find Mr. Takahashi."

With my back turned, and Ayame off, the two officers began to mumble to each other. I couldn't hear exactly what, but I did catch one phrase: 'She won't be happy'. I stood still for a moment, trying to determine who they were really with… until they called me.

I turned. "Yes?"

"Can you show us the nursery please?" the human officer asked.

"I thought you needed to wait for the house to be cleared?"

"We will need it to be cleared before we can call back-up. But the faster we assess the situation upstairs the faster we can get this rolling." He smiled at me, stepping forward. "So if you please, Ms. Ikeda."

How did they know it was upstairs?

Was I being paranoid?

I didn't want to argue with nothing for me to fight or protect myself. My screams would never reach the others. So I nodded my head, leading them up the stairs. Slowly, I made my way through the corridors, feeling their presence behind me. Yeah, I was definitely paranoid, but I had a good reason to be.

I stopped at the nursery, looking inside the room. I noticed Sesshomaru's abandoned jacket on the ground and picked it up, putting it on. Smelling it. Savouring it. My eyes looked away as the two entered. I crossed my arms over my chest, feeling the chill from the weather. Even with the jacket, I couldn't stop the fear drill to my bones and freeze my body.

"When did you find out your daughter was gone?" the human male asked.

I refused to look into his direction. "A little after midnight."

"Please wait out here for now, Ms. Ikeda," he ordered, disappearing into the room.

"The wall is burnt," the rhino officer commented in a low tone to his partner. Probably thinking that I wouldn't be able to hear, but I could. "It was definitely the child."

I kept myself outside the room as their voices turned into a low mumble. "But it could've been possible it was him. We'll need to tell her. He is becoming a hassle trying to get her attention."

"He's a mere child, ruining the plan."

I had to shut my eyes, hoping that everything was a dream. I leaned against the wall as I heard them shuffling around the broke nursery.

Then my phone buzzed. My first thought that it was Sesshomaru. He had found Saika and was on his way home. Everything was going to be alright. Then I saw the message, and realized that it wasn't a dream.

Keep up, Rin or you may be burned – X

"Ms. Ikeda," my name was called behind me. I turned, placing my phone back into my pocket.

"Yes?"

"We looked around the room and thought it would be ideal to contact detectives on our side as well."

I nodded.

"Once everyone is cleared, which is currently happening, we will start the investigation." The human male placed his hand on my shoulder. "All will be well, Ms. Ikeda."

They started heading down the hall. "How do you know everyone is clearing out?" I asked them.

He turned, pointing to his radio. "We called back-up when we got into the nursery. A few of our squad cars are here helping clear the house."

I nodded as I followed them back downstairs. I didn't trust these guys. Their words, the way they spoke…it was as if….

"Rin!" I saw Kagome run up the stairs. "Are you okay?"

"Kagome…" I spoke her name slowly, like her presence was a dream.

Like everything was a dream.

"The police are clearing people out. It's crazy! What happened?"

I blinked, letting out a shaking breath of air. "Saika's missing. And…Sesshomaru went after her. I…" I shook my head. "I don't know where they are."

"Oh my god." Kagome held me by the shoulders as I saw Izayoi and Inutaisho appear taking to one of the officers. "Everything will be okay. Sesshomaru will definitely find her. And the police…"a pause "what an insane evening."

I nodded, seeing Izayoi eye contact me. She gave me a small smile and nod, letting me know things were now under control.

But they were far from that.

I noticed Agent Kagura Sato enter the foyer, talking to one of the detectives. Police were now everywhere. Outside I could see the blue and red flashes. People started to come in with cases, gloves on, yellow tape, the full show. I felt like I was a guest star on CSI without the script. I took Kagome's hands off my shoulders. "I'll be right back," I said, without looking at her.

I went down the stairs towards the agent. She noticed me and gave me a small apologetic grin. Her red eyes read bad news. "Agent Sato," I began.

"Ms. Ikeda, I want to let you know we're going to do anything to find your daughter and mate. We already have trackers getting ready to go find them."

"I'm going with them," I claimed.

"No, Ms. Ikeda. I need you to remain here," she answered, about to talk to a passing officer.

My anger rose quickly. "My daughter has been kidnapped, and my mate…has decided to be a fucking hero and find her himself. I'm not just going to sit idly by and wait like a fucking housewife for them to return. I'm going."

I heard her sigh. I get it girl, if I was woken up in the middle of the night by a raising demand to find a crazy human's daughter and mate, I would be pissed off too. Have some coffee and move on. "Ms. Ikeda, I understand your frustration. But it's for the best you remain here for his return. We don't know the dangers out there, and for now we need you safe under police protection. Your mate would probably appreciate it as well. Excuse me."

She left before I could go full out bitch slap crazy on her ass and raise my voice. Nobody will tell me 'my mate would dot dot dot'. They don't know me. They don't know Sesshomaru! For fuck sake!

"Ms. Ikeda?" one of the detectives came up to me, his expression plain looking and human. "I need to ask you a few questions. Can you join me in the living room with my partner?"

I nodded, still trying to calm down the explosive episode that would probably return three folds.

They handed me tea when I sat down on the couch. The female detective sat beside me, hands folded, her body leaning forward. Perfect body language. The male paced, his eyes looking around for certain clues, but all clues in the room were empty bottles and possibly a scent of sex. There was a party after all.

Then they asked me questions; some about Sesshomaru and Saika, and others about anyone who might be after my family. I didn't really answer truthfully about those. There were some things I was still hiding from even Agent Kagura Sato.

"We are aware you were involved with an incident with your elder sister, Mika, about a year ago," the female said.

I nodded, my eyes frozen on my tea. I didn't want to remember that day. My lungs tightened thinking about it. My chest began to constrict and I started finding it hard to get enough air. But I kept my expression straight. Not changing the way I looked.

"Is it possible she could be behind it? Or someone she was connected to?"

I looked to my left where the lady sat. "That impossible," I muttered. "Mika is…locked away…isn't she? And the person she was connected to is also locked away. I thought Agent Sato would've told you."

"We're just making sure, Ms. Ikeda. We need all the information we can get."

I blinked, placed my tea on the table, and stood up, feeling the frustration slowly seep back into me. "I'm pretty sure any information I can give you, you can get or have already gotten from Agent Sato."

"Ms. Ikeda, please, we are only trying to find who did this-"

My hands balled into fists. "Then ask Agent Sato. All I want is my daughter and mate home safe." I gave her and her partner a cold, hard look. "I'm done here."

I marched out of the room and right when I left, the familiar buzz in my pocket. I pulled out the phone and saw it.

Sometimes rules must be broken. The law is one of them. You have an hour. – X

And moments later a screen shot of a map with a red X marking a spot ten miles from the ranch.

Oh this is all handy dandy now! X was now leading me on a scavenger hunt. What the hell is happening? This had to be a trap…right?

I watched people pass me by. The maids carried bags of empty bottles. Others in white suits, carrying boxes of god knows what. Agent Sato stood on the main staircase talking to another officer, she looked at me for a moment before heading up the stairs towards the nursery. There was no compassion in her eyes that time. They were cold.

"Rin, hey," Ayame came up to my side, "why don't we go into Mr. Takahashi's office for a bit for coffee. A few of us are hanging out there until all of this is cleared over."

"I doubt it will be for…a few days."

She nodded. "Yeah, I was afraid of that. Let's just go anyway until we can at least be approved to go home."

She grabbed my hand and led me into the office. Most of us were there minus the Takahashi family. Even Inuyasha was missing. Kagome sat on the couch with Sango, sipping some coffee. Miroku was watching outside. Koga was leaning against the wall, eyes closed. Ami and Shippo left a few hours ago thankfully, but I knew I would get a call from her soon. As well as from my mother. And probably everyone else. This was going to be all over the news, and once again I would be the center of attention.

If only I was in Bali sipping margaritas with Jak right now. Oooooh the beach!

I stood standing against the wall beside the door. I didn't have time to sit and drink coffee like a high school after party. I needed to figure out a way to get out of this place.

I looked down at the hardware floor beneath my feet, tracing the lines with my eyes. My mind raced on what would happen if I arrived at this location and it being nothing but a trap. If this was some crappy action movie, it would, and everyone in the theatre would be screaming 'DON'T GO!' then some big explosion would happen and well…you've seen the ending of James Bond.

I would need something though. A weapon. I remember the rush feeling of when I pulled the trigger on David back in America. I remember my shaking hands and fear, but the feeling that I was protected while I was being tracked by a dangerous stalker. It was time to change that. With my daughter in danger, the mother in me came out and well…you guessed it.

Nobody will ever mess with me ever again.

I remembered something Mr. Takahashi once told me. I was in this office back when I was still in high school, getting lost in this giant house as always when he came in. We had a good chat and when he said that he'd protect his family as much as Sesshomaru protected me, he mentioned a weapon not from the 16th century. A small pistol he received in England fifty years prior in case an intruder had entered his domain and he couldn't reach his blades. The pistol would be small enough to conceal so no enemy would see.

Nobody would even hear.

I couldn't remember where it was but I was certain it was tucked in his desk.

Now only to get to it.

My eyes narrowed on the desk as I counted my steps towards the wooden object.

Now to find the pistol without anybody noticing.

And I noticed Koga still looking out the window.

I walked around the massive desk and leaned against it, looking at the wolf.

"Koga," I started.

He turned to me. He looked exhausted. Hours of drinking would do that to you. "Hey, Rin. How are you holding up?" His words slurred. I could tell he was coming down from a drunken episode and just wanted to pass out. He chuckled seconds later. "Sorry, fucked up question."

"This whole night is fucked up."

He nodded, looking back outside. "You're telling me. One minute I'm dancing the night away, the next police are everywhere. I thought it was some kind of drug thing going down. Now…" he looked at me over his shoulder. "I'm sorry, Rin."

My hands began to work on the drawers, opening one slowly and reaching in. Damn nothing but pens. "I am too. I ruined everyone's night."

He shook his head and turned to face me right when I closed the first drawer. "Nah, you pretty much saved it. Can't imagine what the morning would've been like. People sprawled on the floor, bottles everywhere…you saved the night, Rin."

My hand grabbed the next drawer handle. I shook my head. "No," my eyes lowered, "I didn't."

I blinked and looked up to his half-smile expression. "Everything will be already in the end, Rin. Just wait and see."

My hand searched the drawer. Nothing.

Next drawer. I pulled…locked.

My eyes locked with Koga's, making sure he was looking right at me. "Koga, I never…I never really talk to you fully about what happened." I moved my hand in Sesshomaru's jacket I had taken and pulled out a spar bobby pin I tucked in there when I was pulling my hair out earlier before.

With the small tool, I began to pick.

"I just want to say that…" I felt a click. "I forgive you on what happened. We were young...er…and it was my first party…"

I bit my lip, pulling the small drawer, leaning against the desk as my hand now searched, knowing it would be in here.

"…in fact, I want to thank you…" I continued, as I felt the cold touch of the silver handle. "…you…you made me run that night right into Sesshomaru's arms."

He made a small chuckle and winked. "Good to know I'm the reason our history teacher screwed you that night."

I frowned. "So even you smelled it?"

"Rin, everyone with a sensitive nose could tell the next day Lord Sesshomaru Takahashi mated with a human. It wasn't hard to put two and two together. We just didn't know who." He shrugged.

I nodded. I pulled the pistol out and turned around fast enough to hide the weapon in the pocket. I leaned against the desk, breathing out hard, pretending that I was processing everything. Once I turned around again, looking at the wolf, I gave him a smile. "Thanks, Koga."

"Anything for my girl's best friend."

He was still drunk. Perhaps one day I could have a proper conversation about that night.

For now…

Another vibrate went through my body. Another text.

And I read it once I reached the other side of the desk.

Each soul told - a petal will fall. What are you waiting for? – X

Then a picture.

Saika…her small body in a small cradle illuminated by light and nothing else. She was asleep. She was alone besides the one taking the picture. My blood filled with the unfamiliar energy of urge. A mother's will.

The will to kill.

My heart skipped a beat. X knew if I told anyone… "Saika…"

I needed to hurry.

"Rin?" Oh shit, caught. I saw Ayame stand up. "Where are you going?"

I turned my head over my shoulder, not making eye contact with her. "I…just need some air."

And I left without another word or until I heard another word out of her or anyone. I quickly moved through the back way towards the garage, walking through the dark hallways. A way that I knew I wouldn't pass any detective or officer of the law. I snuck into the dark garage, turning the light on and illuminating the five sports cars parked. I moved to Sesshomaru's black Mercedes, taking the spare keys from the tool box on the top shelf.

I got in the car, placed the gun on the passenger's seat beside me.

Placed both hands on the steering wheel.

And looked out towards the closed garage doors, knowing…

…if I went out there…

…police…

…lights…

…they would see me.

I swallowed the lump in my throat. Closed my eyes.

And pressed the button to open.

I opened my eyes, turning the car on.

And put my foot on the gas, speeding out into the blue and red flashing lights, moving through the large drive way. Through the gates with no breaks.

Ignoring everything.

Only one thing on my mind.

Find Saika.

I disappeared into darkness with my only focus on finding her.

xXx

I had no clue what I was doing.

How I was driving this car, I couldn't tell you because even I was afraid if I stopped, I wouldn't be able to start the car again. I wouldn't lie that my hands shook. My mind screamed to turn back. But I breathed, saying Saika's name over and over and remembering the text messages.

I didn't care anymore if they were a trap. I was going to find her.

No longer will someone mess with me. I was done.

Completely and utterly done.

I moved my eyes to the pistol on the other seat quickly. Its presence radiated into my nerves. My hands tightened even more on the wheel. I sped quickly, knowing time was short. I had twenty minutes.

Twenty to find the X.

I followed the map through the darkness, moving through the rural streets. I passed several cars, I sped even faster. I couldn't find it.

Until I realized where the map was leading me.

My body froze like time had turned back. I looked to my left seeing myself in the car, a year younger, pregnant with my first child, and being kidnapped by Naraku without knowing I was being taken to a possible death sentence.

A tear rolled down my cheek as I knew where to go.

I stopped in front of it.

The farm house. Now half destroyed, but the X marked the spot.

This was where my treasure was.

I gripped the pistol hard and got out. My expression firm; although hands shaking, I moved forward in the half destroyed house.

I didn't know what happened when I passed out that day. Flashbacks were hard to deal with. My chest tightened remembering the liquid substance that stopped everything. The voice of Sesshomaru telling me to hang on, but that was it. I was pretty sure he was to blame with the destruction though. Although I never saw his true potential, I knew…it was him.

The winter wind moved through my body. My legs chilled, but mind focused. I walked up the steps of the home. It was dark, creaking…rotten. I was afraid that one step I would fall into Hell. I took out of my phone flashlight, aiming it like I was in a detective movie.

I opened the destroyed screen door. I screeched, banging when I went into the small interior. The walls creaked. The floorboards squeaked. I moved through the abandoned darkness.

Until…nothing.

My flashlight illuminated nothing.

I blinked, looking back, trying to figure out what happened. I was no longer in the house. My breath came out shaky. I looked forward, moving forward. Not caring. Gun up. Lights up. Ready for anything.

I was in the middle of pure darkness. I would not give in to the fear. I would not give in…

Never.

Then I stopped when I saw a small light. Like a light at the end of a tunnel. I quickly walked towards it, and as it came into view I noticed something strange. It was a small round table with a small candle light on the top and a frog.

I was serious here. There was what I know was a frog. A random frog.

I stared at it as it gave me a croak. My arms fell to my side, looking around like I was in some kind of prank game. Like I was in a dream.

"Seriously?" I muttered to not only to the toad but to whoever was watching. I knew they were watching. X…

Then two doors ahead of me appeared. So fast that my reflexes went into overdrive and I move the pistol into the aim position, lowering it when I realized I was very jumpy.

You know when a random frog is in front of you and well…darkness and two doors, being jumpy can be normal, ok?

"What the…fuck?" I muttered.

"One door leads to your daughter," a deep voice echoed through the room.

I jumped again, aiming the pistol, looking around to nothing.

"One leads to a horrible death."

"Who's there?" I called out. "X…I fucking swear to God, I am done with this! Come out and face me!"

"Choose," It continued.

And I looked down and realized the voice…

It was coming…

"I must be going crazy," I whispered, lowering the pistol. "For a second, I swear I thought I heard you talk."

A pause. A croak. "You aren't crazy."

I aimed the pistol at the frog, knowing very well it did speak. "Oh gods, I have gone mad. A frog is speaking to me."

"One door leads to your daughter," it started to repeat. I raised my eyebrow. "One door leads to a horrible death."

"I'm sorry, what?" I asked, a little snappy in my words.

It croaked. "You may ask one question, but I always lie."

I shook my head. "What…" I muttered under my breath. What is this? The frog of doom?

"Tick, tock," the frog said, giving me a ribbit.

Yeah, I was so done. This was no fairy-tale and the frog no prince. "What the hell is the point of this? Do you realize what I had to do to get here? If this is X's game, it fucking sucks!" I growled, putting the gun in my pocket. "I am in a nice dress. My legs are cold…" I picked the frog up.

"Put me down, what are you doing?" it complained.

"…My daughter is missing; my mate is…don't even get me started. And now you…you are just the cherry on the top."

I moved around the table to the two doors. "I demand you place me back down!" it hollered.

"What is the point of having a door with a horrible death behind it? What does that even achieve?!"

I moved to one of the doors.

"What is even your purpose in life? To sit here and test people's lives if they come in? X isn't even paying you enough if they are!"

And I opened the door on the left, and threw the frog in, not giving one crap.

The toad gave a quick yell as I closed the door behind me and well…let's just say it wasn't the door that would lead me to my daughter. The whole thing burst into flames. Guess the frog lived up to his reputation as being a doom…thing.

I looked to the door on the right, trying to compose myself. I could be meeting X for god's sake, had to look my best. My hand on the knob, I opened the wooden door, letting the whole thing open into darkness again.

I sighed. I was getting tired of this shit. Plus it was three am and I was really, really tired.

I aimed my phone and the pistol up like I was a FBI agent in a movie again, moving through the darkness again. I just kept going straight, running on nothing but pure determination to find my daughter. And I knew she was here.

I knew it. I could feel her presence.

Then I saw it…another light ahead. I brighter one.

I ran forward when I saw the cradle and right into some kind of glass wall.

Trust me, it hurt like a bitch. I groaned, holding my head after the bang, and blinked away the stars. On the other side there she was, sleeping soundly in the crib.

"Saika," I whispered, before I started to pound on the glass. "Saika!"

Then I heard a low hush on the other side and what appeared in the darkness was enough to make my stomach flip.

Dressed in a black long hooded cloak and face covered with the mask of a skull was them.

X.

My eyes widened at the sight, pausing my heart pounding like I had seen a ghost. Told you I would come face to face with them.

Their finger moved to the lips, making the hushed noise again, looming over my daughter. "You'll wake her," a deep male voice…a voice that was muffled answered. It wasn't their real voice that much I knew.

"Give her back," I demanded, starting to pound on the glass again.

X picked her up, cradling her. "Rock-a-by baby on the tree top."

I shook my head. "Put her down!" I screamed.

"When the wind blows the cradle will rock."

I shook my head as tear began to gather like a family reunion.

"When the bough breaks; the cradle will fall."

I stepped back from the glass wall and aimed the pistol. Tears rolled down my cheeks. Teeth clenched. Hands shook like no other.

"And down will come baby; cradle and all."

And I pulled the trigger.
