Chapter 50
Set in Stone
Elena's POV
When I woke up I saw Thorin smiling at me. I smiled and sat up for a kiss. Eruraviel started to cry so I fed her.
"Hey guys…whoa! I told you to warn me about that stuff!"
I growled.
"I am not a mind reader. I didn't know you were coming."
He walked off and Thorin chuckled. When I was finished we packed up and headed out. We made it to the borders of Mirkwood that day and took the elven path. We were still close to Thranduil's halls so we stopped for the night. Thorin still was not quite comfortable being around Thranduil or so near to his dwelling. The twins loved the forest. They had grown up in a mountain and their elven blood seemed to bring out the love of trees. I smiled at their joy and excitement. My only concern was that they were rather adventurous like their father. I did not want them to go wandering through Mirkwood. Thorin and I had them under constant supervision.
"I think you're worrying too much hermana." Alejandro said.
I looked at him.
"They are exactly like I was before our parents died." I said.
He thought for a minute.
"Yeah….actually you might be right. Okay so we keep an extra eye on them. No problem. Two assassins against two kids? There's no challenge."
I was still worried. Joclyn and Thrain had a connection I had never seen before. They always knew what the other was thinking or doing, or if the other was hurting. They were always there for each other.
Thorin's POV
I didn't want my children in this forest. It was dangerous and I remembered all too well what happened to myself and the others here. Eruraviel seemed to sense the darkness in this place. She cried constantly and nothing could soothe her. I held her close to me and rocked her lightly.
"Shhh-hhh! All will be well my child." I whispered.
She cried until she fell asleep. Elena and Alejandro were talking to each other about something and Elena seemed upset. I looked over at the twins who were both asleep and under their blanket. As I looked at them something felt wrong.
"Elena…."
"What is it?"
"Check on the twins."
She looked confused but walked towards them. She knelt down and slowly pulled back the blanket. She screamed and so did I when we saw the twins were gone. Alejandro took off to find them and Elena took Eruraviel. I put my arms around her and our baby.
"He will find him. If anyone can he can."
Thrain's POV
Joclyn wanted to explore and I was not going to let her go alone. We slipped away from our parents and tio. I took her hand and we wandered into the forest. At first it was green and alive, then it began to grow dark and everything looked dead. I was getting worried but Joclyn wanted to keep going. When I saw the giant webs that was when I stopped her.
"We have to go back! This is too dangerous! We have not learned to fight yet." I said.
She nodded and we tried to go back. There was a web blocking our way that was not there before. Joclyn grabbed my arm and I kept her back. We heard hissing behind us and I looked over my shoulder. Joclyn screamed and we ran. There were more spiders chasing us and I tripped. Joclyn stopped and came back. She screamed for help but no one was coming.
"Mama! Papa!"
An arrow came flying and killed one of the spiders.
Joclyn's POV
When I saw the arrow I thought it was mama. A blond man came jumping out of the trees. He fought off the spiders and I freed my brother. We tried to run but more came forward. I picked up a jagged rock and threw it at the spider. I hit it in the eye and kept throwing rocks until the man killed it. Thrain and I turned to look at him.
"What are you doing out here? It is not safe!"
"NINOS!"
We started to call for our tio and he came into view. He saw the man and sighed.
"It's been a long time Legolas. Like what? Almost four years?"
The man nodded and tio looked at us.
"What were you both thinking!? We've all told you about this forest. Away from his halls it is not safe. Though I also can't imagine its very safe there either."
Legolas sighed.
"I have been apologizing for years for that." he complained.
"Yeah well you ruined my face for about two weeks. I guess you've already met the twins. Joclyn and Thrain."
Legolas looked at us both.
"How old are they?"
"Three, they'll be four in two months."
"How on earth did they slip away from Elena? Nothing can slip past her. She is…."
"Don't! They don't know."
Thrain and I looked at each other confused.
"Joclyn, Thrain…."
We looked at tio.
"We did you leave when you knew it was dangerous? Your mother isn't happy at all."
We hung our heads and tio looked at Legolas.
"Can you help us get back? Our camp was only a mile or two away from your dad's halls."
"Of course."
Tio picked up Thrain and the elf picked me up.
"You are both safe now." He said.
I nodded and held onto him.
Elena's POV
It had been nearly three hours since Alejandro left to find the twins. I was holding onto my baby as though something would take her from me.
"He will find them Elena. Perhaps we should ask for Thranduil's aid."
I looked up and nodded.
"There won't be any need for that."
I turned and saw Alejandro. He had the twins and Legolas was also with him. I stood up and ran to them.
"You are both grounded until further notice! But I am so happy you are safe."
I hugged them both and then Thorin did as well. I handed Eruraviel to Alejandro and hugged Legolas.
"Hannon le mellon nin! Hannon le!"
"I was happy to help. And happy to finally meet your children. Is this the newest?"
I smiled and nodded. Alejandro handed Eruraviel to him and he smiled.
"She is a beautiful child, just like your eldest daughter. And your son seems strong. He will be a powerful warrior one day. He and his sister have a connection I have not seen in many years."
I looked at my twins curiously.
"What do you mean?"
"Before long they will be as one almost. If one gets hurt, so will the other one. I saw it once nearly a thousand years ago. Be careful and watch them closely. They have your blood and I can see they are just like you." he said
I smirked.
"Then Thorin and I are in for a ride."
Third Person POV
While his sister and Legolas were talking, Alejandro noticed the way his niece stared at the elf. He smirked and looked at Thorin. They walked away a bit and he laughed.
"What?"
"Your daughter."
Thorin looked over to his eldest daughter and his eyes went wide.
"No!"
"It's too late. I've seen it and it's set in stone."
