Running With Scissors
Marcia rolls in her bed snuggling up in the warm plush comfort of her blankets. She lets out a yawn turning over. As she turned over a laser puppy hopped on her bed. The adorable animal lets out a yip before shooting a laser right into Marcia's face.
"Aah!" Marcia cried grabbing her face as she sat up.
The Laser Puppy lets out another cute bark licking Marcia on her cheek.
"Aww, not now, puppy," Marcia spoke pushing the puppy back.
She tries to lay back down but a second Laser Puppy hops on her bed shooting a laser at Marcia as well. She yelps as this laser strikes her in the face too knocking her back into her pillows.
The Laser Puppy's pounce on Marcia licking her face. She's able to escape the cute attack digging herself deeper under her bed sheets.
"I should be safe under here," Marcia said
She rolled over and her eyes widen as she's greeted by several more Laser Puppy's.
"Aaaah!" Marcia shouted as the puppies fired off several lasers. She launched herself into the air latching onto the canopy top of her bed.
Suddenly her necklace glows and Marcia lets a hiss towards the Laser Puppies. The dogs stop barking tilting their heads confused by Marcia's behavior. Marcia shakes her head perplexed by her own behavior as well. She lets go of the canopy dropping back down onto her bed and the puppies all crowd onto Marcia.
"Whaaaaat?!" Marcia questioned the dogs exasperated.
The Laser Puppy's each hold a leash up in their mouths signaling they wanted to be walked.
"Ugh…" Marcia let out a groan falling back onto her bed.
She gathers the puppies putting their leashes on.
"Liger!" Marcia called out.
A pile of Marcia's stuffed animals starts to move and out pops Liger's head.
"We're going outside," Marcia told the cat.
Marcia made her way to the front door accompanied by the puppies and Liger. She opened the door and is immediately met with a face full of water. There was a harsh storm outside, the wind whipping sending the rain in every direction. The streets were flooded, which was being taken advantage of by a boy floating down the drowned streets in an inner tube.
Marcia let out a second hiss of the day as more rain was splashed her way. She quickly shut the door before any more water could enter.
"What to do now. There's no way I'm going out in that weather." Marcia said
She pondered her options before an idea struck her.
Star Butterfly was having a lazy afternoon shooting magic beams at a floating tennis ball.
"Pshew! Pshew! I'll get you, tennis ball. Pshew! Pshew!"
She continued to miss blasting several holes in her canopy.
Marcia entered Star's room, "Hey, can I borrow your dimensional scissors for a second?"
Star not really paying attention to her friend hands over the scissors. "Yeah, sure. Whatever."
"Thanks."
Marcia leaves scissors in hand, Star still firing off blasts at the tennis ball. Going back to her room the Laser Puppies were waiting excitedly for Marcia.
"All right, guys. Who's ready for a walk?" Marcia asked
The puppies all yip bouncing around Marcia as she opened a portal to the park.
"Come on, puppies."
The laser puppies rush into the portal entering the park eye laser's ablaze.
"Whew! Problem solved."
Marcia looked down at the scissors in her hand.
"Hmmm…" She hummed staring at the shears.
Downstairs in the kitchen, Rafael opened the refrigerator pulling something out. A portal opens in front of the man startling him. A hand reaches out of the portal grabbing a soda.
Marcia pulled her hand out of the portal staring at the soda.
"Hmmmmm...Light bulb! Today Marcia's having a lazy day! What do you say Liger?" Marcia looked at the cat.
In response, the animal stares at Marcia before flopping onto his back on Marcia's bed.
"I'll take that as a yes!"
Marcia pulled out her compact cell phone dialing a number.
A fast-food worker at a taco restaurant finished preparing a to-go order.
"To-go for Marcia?" The woman called out, she looked around quizzically seeing no one around.
Suddenly a portal opened in the front of the woman scaring her. Marcia's hand grabs the food then gives the cashier some money.
"Thank you!" She called out through the portal.
Marcia smiles opening her bag of food.
"Fish Tacos. Here you go Liger!"
She tosses one of the tacos to Liger, the animal catching the taco in his mouth swallowing it whole. Marcia smiles taking a bite out of her taco humming with delight. She jumps back on her bed landing next to Liger.
"Let the lazy day commence!"
In just a few minutes Marcia had several portals opened around her.
"This is nice…" Marcia sighed
She finished off her soda and instead of getting up to throw it away she simply opens a portal depositing the trash though that. A second portal opens above Marcia's trashcan across the room the soda can falling in.
Marcia goes to open another portal but this one is much different from the previous ones she had created. Instead of the standard glowing blue this portal was a swirling color of orange and yellow.
"Huh?" Marcia questioned sitting up.
Before she could ponder on what was happening a hand reaches out grabbing the front of Marcia's dress.
"What?!" Marcia cried causing Liger to perk its head up looking to the girl.
Marcia's pulled through the portal screaming the entire way.
A portal opened in a dimension resembling a barren wasteland. Marcia comes tumbling out landing on her backside. She stands up utterly confused taking in her new surroundings.
"Where did you get these?" A female voice questions.
Marcia gazes upwards to see a woman with pale white skin. Her arms had rough with spiked edges and her red hair was full and long pulled back by a loose black band. She had bangs which covered her right eye, the other visible eye being an orange color. Poking out of her red hair was a pair of orange horns and small fangs protruded from her mouth. She was wearing a yellow-orange ball gown style dress with a crown and above the crown was a flickering flame.
The clearly not-human woman was holding the dimensional scissors as she glared sternly down at Marcia.
"Seriously, flesh wad. Talk."
Marcia nervously scooted back, "Uh, well, I'm borrowing them from a friend who may or may not be Star Butterfly."
"Wrong answer. I'm the forger of all dimensional scissors. Each pair is made specifically for the entity who earns them."
She held up the scissors to the flame burning above her head. The blades glow bright orange showing off some kind of writing. The scissors are thrust in Marcia's face, so she could read what was written on it.
"Lady, I can't read-whaaaa?" Marcia paused seeing that she could read the strange writing.
She had no clue what language that was, it certainly wasn't English nor Spanish, and the only other language she had somewhat of a grasp on was Mewni and that didn't look like Mewni to her. But for some reason, she could read the writing on the blade of the scissors.
"Hek-apoo?" Marcia read with a questioning head tilt.
The scissors were pulled away from Marcia.
"That's me. That's my name. He-ka-poo. Hekapoo! You humans are lame times a thousand." Hekapoo reaches over poking Marcia on the nose. "Boop!"
"I don't care whose name is on them. I borrowed them from Star, and I'm returning them," Marcia said
"And how do you propose you're going to get them back?" Hekapoo questioned crossing her arms.
"Well, I'll earn them like you said that I-"
Marcia is cut off by Hekapoo falling back in a howl of laughter.
"That's rich!"
Marcia frowns clenching her fist. "I'm serious! I'll have you know I have a red belt in karate."
"This should be amusing. Okay. All you have to do is blow out this flame." Hekapoo gestured to the flame over her head.
Marcia raises a brow wondering what the catch was. "Really?"
She takes a deep inhale going to blow out the flame but Hekapoo jumps back over several feet.
Marcia sighed her face deadpanned, "Yeah should've seen that coming."
She runs after Hekapoo but the woman continues to jump away.
"Man her leg muscles must be amazing," Marcia commented
Like a game of cat and mouse, Marcia chased Hekapoo all across the plains of the wasteland. Hekapoo was soon out of her sight but suddenly she appeared behind Marcia swatting the back of her head.
"That's one! Ha-ha!" Hekapoo chuckled
"Hey!" Marcia shouted rubbing the back of her head.
Hekapoo seemingly vanishes again before appearing behind Marcia giving her another hit to the head.
"That's two," She laughed
"Come on! Your hands are extremely hot what if you set my hair on fire!" Marcia shouted
Hekapoo performs the same vanishing move, but Marcia quickly steels herself turning around running in the opposite direction so she and Hekapoo are running at one another. Hekapoo just smirks before opening a portal. Marcia doesn't have enough time to stop and ends up skidding into the portal.
"Aah!"
She slides on the ground towards the edge of a cliff. She screams grabbing the edge of a tree root stopping herself from going over.
Hekapoo approaches the edge looking down at Marcia, "Bye-bye."
Marcia narrows her eyes then swings her feet. She swings her body back and forth gaining momentum. With one final swing Marcia lets go of the tree root. Hekapoo was surprised as Marcia flipped upwards over her, midair Marcia blows out Hekapoo's light landing back on the edge of the cliff.
"Gotch-huh?" Marcia smiled in triumph but it was wiped away as Hekapoo's form vanished like a candle's flame being blown out.
"She didn't have the scissors! And you're gonna have to blow out a whole lot of flames to find them."
Marcia's eyes widen, and she looked over the edge of the cliff seeing hundreds of Hekapoo's gathered together.
The real Hekapoo held up the dimensional scissors.
"Are you looking for these, dum-dum?" She taunted
"Ugggghhh," Marcia threw her head back groaning.
She slid down to the bottom of the cliff diving into the throngs of Hekapoo's. Each one sending out its own jeers confusing Marcia.
A hand reached out slapping the back of her head.
"Ow! Hey, what'd I say about my hair!" Marcia shouted
The real Hekapoo uses the scissors opening nine different portals each one a different color. She and her clones scatter going through the various portals and before Marcia knew it she was all alone.
"Oh, this is not good," Marcia said
"It may take days, months, even lifetimes." Hekapoo's voice echoed with a chuckle. "I don't think you have the goods to do it."
A portal opens next to Marcia, she looks in it to see it led back to Earth.
"Go home to your stinky dirt rock, little girl."
Marcia frowns eyes narrowing in determination. "I don't care how long it takes. I'm getting those scissors."
Marcia puts her two pinkie fingers in her mouth whistling. The gem on her necklace glows and a red portal opens next to her. Liger bounds through the portal stopping right before Marcia. She hops on the animal's back smirking.
"Lets, go Liger!"
Liger lets out a thunderous roar before he takes off.
While Marcia had set off on her own little adventure Star was busy doing her own thing, still trying to blast the floating tennis ball. She had yet to hit the ball but did manage to shred her canopy. Her final blast ends up shooting a hole through the wall.
"Aw, dang it."
"Good boy, Joffrey."
Star quickly sits up startled by an unknown man's voice in her room. She looks over to see some random man and his dog in her room. The dog was lifting his leg about to use the restroom on the char in Star's room.
"Whoa, whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa! Rainbow Diaper Blast!" Star shouted
A diaper is magically created on the dog stopping him from doing his business in Star's room.
"Not cool, bub!" Star shouted at the Dog Owner.
"Take it easy, man! This new dog park is really confusing!" The man cried
"Dog park?" Star questioned
She left her room going to Marcia's.
"Marcia, why did you m-" Star stopped seeing several portals opened in Marcia's room. "Oh, no. She's gone scissor-happy. Oh, Marcia, Marcia, Marcia-" She pauses for a second time seeing Hekapoo's portal, "Oh!" She gasped staring wide-eyed at the orange glowing portal. "Oh, this does not bode well."
Star pulled out her compact phone dialing a number. It rings a few times before an image of Pony Head appears. The floating horse head was somehow currently working up a sweat on a treadmill.
"Hey, girl. I'm doing my cardio. Okay, hold up. I'm gonna put it on an incline."
Pony Head pressed a button before looking back at Star.
"Okay, girl, what's good?"
"Okay, so Marcia opened a bunch of portals with my scissors, and one of them looks like this." Star turned the phone towards the portal.
"Oh, snap! That's bad!" Pony Head said
Star nodded her head. "Yeah, that's what I thought."
"That red portal is Hekapoo's. You need to get away from it, and if she asks, you do not tell her you got those scissors from me, okay?" Pony Head said
"Wait. I thought Hekapoo gave you those scissors." Star said
Pony Head shrugged her nonexistent shoulders. "I mean, yeah. She left the scissors in the bathroom at the Bounce Lounge, and, um, what happened then was, uh, I took them. So yeah, basically, they're mine."
Star gasped, "What? No, Pony, that's stealing."
"Uh, I'm pretty sure that's called finding." Pony Head retorted
"Okay, so is Marcia in trouble?" Star asked
"You know what? She's probably dead. Too bad we were supposed to go shopping next week," Pony Head takes a slurp from the sports drink next to her. "That Hekapoo chick is crazy, man."
"Oh, boy...All right, I'll talk to you later, girl." Star gives Pony Head a peace sign. "Bye-eee!" She said before hanging up.
She walks to the portal about to step through before her compact rings. Answering the phone she's greeted by the face of Tom.
"Hey Star," Tom greeted
"Sup," Star greeted with a simple wave.
"Hey, you've seen Marcia? I've been trying to call her, and she hasn't been answering," Tom said
"Marcia's in a bit of trouble," Star said
Immediately the phone is hung up confusing Star. Suddenly the floor next to her splits open with a jagged line spitting out fire and a pink-haired demon boy. The floor closes up and Tom lands on his feet next to Star.
"What kind of trouble?" Tom asked
Star points behind Tom, and he turns around to see Hekapoo's portal.
"Oh, that's not good," Tom said
"Yeeeaahhh."
A green and yellow sky loomed over a lifeless forest of twisted jagged trees. A crow with five eyes lands on a branch letting out a loud squawk.
At the edge of the forest, a large building had been carved out of one of the trees. Smoke was billowing from the top signaling the occupancy within. At the front of the door building two Hekapoos' stood guard holding spears.
In the distance comes a roaring sound and a motorcycle with a side-car comes veering towards the building a woman riding on top.
The Hekapoo's are yet to notice the figure riding up as they continued to guard with bored looks on their faces. One of the Hekapoo's sneezes towards the other.
"Dude, watch it!" The second Hekapoo snapped pointing up at her flame.
"Sorry," The first Hekapoo apologized
A roar rings through the air as a large winged shadow descends from the sky.
"Ohhhhhh, incoming!"
Landing before the Hekapoo's was the woman on the motorcycle or rather a dragon-cycle.
The rider was clad in leather pants with a match buttoned-up leather vest displaying toned muscle and lean physique, but her face was obscured by a red poncho. Leather boots hit the ground as she stepped off the dragon-cycle. The figure smirked from under her hood pulling out a katana sword. She swung the sword creating a large wind gust.
"Jump!"
One of the Hekapoo's jumps avoiding the attack but the second one isn't fast enough their flame getting blown out.
"Oh, dude, it's on!" Clone Hekapoo said
The woman runs at Hekapoo and she swings her spear, the woman lifts her sword going to block, but the spear produces a spiral of flames. When the flames die down the woman is gone.
"Ha-ha!" Hekapoo laughs
A sharp whistle rings through the air and something jumps out of the sidecar of the dragon-cycle, revealing it to be Liger wearing a spiked collar. The animal pounces on Hekapoo, but she jumps back, right into the arms of the woman who trap Hekapoo in a headlock.
"Oh, man!"
The woman blows out the flame and Hekapoo vanishes. The figure dust off her hands before reaching into her poncho pulling out a small notebook and a pen. She opens the notebook to reveal pages upon pages of flames drawn within the book each one crossed off. She flips the book to the last page crossing off another flame showing only one left.
The last and real Hekapoo was inside her workshop casting another pair of scissors.
There's a knock at the door before it's kicked open and in come Liger and the woman.
"So it all comes down to this," A rich female voice spoke. "Sixteen years. A lot of clones. Seemed to go by-" The woman snaps her fingers, "-like that. I finally tracked you down, Hekapoo."
"Yeah, it's the real me. No more clones, so…"
The woman finally removes her poncho revealing the face beneath. Marcia Diaz now age 30 had matured into a real beauty. Lean muscle paired with womanly curves complimented Marcia perfectly. Her long brown hair was braided on the sides pulled up into a high ponytail and she had a nifty vertical scar just below her left eye.
Marcia smirked cocking her hip putting a hand on it. "Who's a little girl now?"
Hekapoo returns Marcia's smirk with one of her own. "This is the part where you blow out my flame."
"Hah. You barely escaped me on the exploding plains of Flendar. And when I lost your trail in the mist of the Neverzone, I thought I'd never find you. After spending a few years infiltrating a cloister of monks, I acquired some ancient texts which led me to dimensional scholars who taught me to translate their language. After that, it was a simple matter of surviving the Afflicted Forest and ending up right at your door."
Marcia saunters up to Hekapoo blowing out the flame with ease.
Hekapoo crosses her arms smirk still present. "Not bad for a human."
Hekapoo hands Marcia the new pair of scissors she just created The hand of the scissors was a dark maroon ad the blade glinted showing Marcia's name engraved on it.
"You truly earned these. I underestimated you."
As Marcia takes the scissors the door to the workshop was once again kicked open. Star and Tom charge in, the princess pointing her wand, the demon hands a lit with flames.
"Hekapoo, where's Marcia!" Star demanded
"Star!" Marcia happily shouted
She runs over to her friend picking her up bringing her into a spinning hug.
Marcia noticing Tom there too gives him a wave. "Hey, Tom!"
Star pushed herself out of Marcia's arms pointing her wand at her.
"Unhand me, pretty punk lady! How do you know my name?" Star questioned
"It's me, Marcia! See?" Marcia steps back doing a quick twirl to show off her older self.
"Marcia?!" Star gaped staring at her friend. "Oh my gosh, you're gorgeous!"
Marcia chuckles rubbing the back of her head.
"Look you've got abs!" Star pointed out. "You could be a model!"
"Ah quit it Star," Marcia chuckled waving a hand.
Tom had yet to speak as he had been stunned into silence by the older Marcia. His mouth was open agape staring at her.
"Marcia…" He whispered
As Marcia excitedly told Star about her adventures Tom couldn't seem to focus on anything but Marcia the world around him falling away.
"Marcia…."
Hekapoo smirks standing next to Tom. "I'd close that you're starting to drool." She gibed pushing Tom's chin closing his gaping mouth.
Marcia finished telling Star about her adventures as she pulled out her new dimensional scissors. "Oh, check it out! It took me sixteen years, but I totally earned these scissors."
"W-W-Wait. Sixteen years?" Star shook her head. "You've been gone from Earth for, like, eight minutes."
Marcia blinked owlishly the words trying to process in her mind. "Eight minutes?!" She yelled
"Yeah, I forgot to tell you that time passes differently in this dimension. Not sorry." Hekapoo said
"No, no, no, no. This is good. It means you haven't missed anything back on Earth. Come on. Use your new scissors to take us home," Star said
"Yeah, about that...I don't think I'm coming back. Turns out I really like my new life here. I got my sword, my dragon-cycle, Liger. I get to ride around all day and go on adventures whenever I want. It's the journey, you know?" Marcia said
Star nodded her head, "Yeah, that dragon-cycle is pretty dope...No! Wait, wait! What about your parents or your friends or me or-or-?" Star looked behind her to the still stupified Tom. "-or Tom."
Hearing his name Tom was finally snapped out of his little daydream.
"Wait what's going on?" Tom questioned
Marcia looks at her dragon-cycle companion, Nachos, giving her a smile. She then looks to her friends who give her a smile. Marcia smiles back before turning to Hekapoo.
"Don't look at me. Those scissors are yours now. You can come back here anytime you want," Hekapoo said
Marcia stares at the scissors before opening a portal to Earth.
"Please. Take care of Nachos while I'm gone," Marcia told Hekapoo.
"She's in good hands," Hekapoo said
"Adios, boo-boo," Marcia told Nachos giving the dragon-cycle a kiss on the snout. She turns to Hekapoo. "Well, old friend, you really gave me a run for my money."
"Likewise. You're pretty cool," Hekapoo smacks Marcia on the back of the head smiling.
"Thanks," Marcia said
"Bye!" Star waved before hopping into the portal.
Marcia walks over to the portal where Tom was standing. The demon teenager going back into his fantasy realm. Marcia raises a brow at the far off look on his face. Liger grabs the back of Tom's shirt with his mouth dragging him into the portal.
"Later, H-Poo," Marcia waved going into the portal.
"Don't call me that!"
Star is the first to exit the portal landing on Marcia's bed. Tom falls out next missing the bed landing on the floor and Liger falls on top of him. Finally, Marcia exists the portal landing on the bed next to Star.
"Oh," Star uttered looking at her friend.
Marcia had changed back into her teenager form, meaning her clothes were much too small for her person.
"Eeep!" Marcia squealed holding up the loose fabric to cover herself.
Tom pushed Liger off him sitting up to see the semi-exposed Marcia.
"Whoa!" Tom shouted seeing Marcia.
"Avert your eyes!" Marcia shouted
Tom covered his eyes with his hands but the third one was still exposed staring at Marcia.
"All of them!" Marcia shouted
She chucked her red bandanna at Tom covering the top of his head obscuring his third eye's vision.
Marcia sighed staring at her younger self. "Man my woman's body is gone. All that hard work….."
"I guess you're back on Earth's timeline now who cares if you're fourteen again? That just means we have more time to go on adventures together. Especially now that you have your own scissors." Star said
"Yeah, I guess you're right," Marcia said
"Of course I am. Now I'm gonna go make us some nachos," Star stated before leaving the room.
Marcia gets up from her bed walking over to her desk passing by her laptop seeing the password screen.
"Password? Oh, crud I don't remember my password," Marcia said
The Laser Puppy's run by leashes in their mouths.
Marcia gave a soft smile. "All right. Let's go for a walk." She looks down at her attire. "Clothe first though. Tom wanna come join me and the Laser Puppy's for a walk?"
"Sure," Tom answered lowering his hands.
"Hey keep those covered," Marcia said
Tom's hand snap back in place over his eyes.
"Liger," Marcia said
Liger gets up grabbing Tom by the back of his shirt dragging him out the room to give Marcia some privacy.
Tom waited patiently outside Marcia's door with Liger. He held in his hand red bandanna that Marcia threw at him. A few minutes passed and Marcia steps out wearing a new outfit.
She had on a pair of red shorts that had black suspenders clipped to them but Marcia wore the suspenders off-shoulder. Her shirt was a black sleeveless mock turtleneck tucked into her shorts and her shoes were her normal black monster boots. Thrown over her shirt was her normal hoodie but this one had no sleeves. Her hair was styled with the top layer thrown up in a bun while she left the lower half open.
The Laser Puppys barked and jumped around Marcia all of them on their leashes.
"Ready to go?" Marcia asked
"Yeah," Tom nodded his head. "Oh here," He held out Marcia's bandanna.
She looked at the piece of fabric before pushing Tom's hand back.
"Nah you keep it," Marcia said
Tom stares at the bandanna before smiling tying it around his neck. Marcia starts to walk towards the stairs but is topped by Tom calling her name.
"Marcia. I just wanted to let you know that uhm the older you was pretty but the you know...is just as pretty," Tom said
Marcia feels her cheeks flush at the compliment. She smiles looking down before looking back at Tom who was avoiding eye contact rubbing the back of his neck.
"Come on you goof." Marcia held her hand out and Tom stares at it.
A bright smile overtakes his face, and he grabbed her hand the two walking out of the house.
