Time of the Monsters (Part 2)
Sarah was too overcome with confusion and fear to move. She was in a desolated Washington from some parallel future world and was on her back looking up at Dr Sprocket who was aiming directly at her head. The more she looked at him the more she realised that Dr Sprocket looked different from before, his eyes glowed red instead of green, his body was made out of different parts (all of them scratched and chipped) and instead of his lab coat he wore a leather jacket that had ammunition in every pocket.
"Doc? P-Please…please don't…" she said, her hands over her face.
Suddenly a purple tail wrapped itself around the robots neck and yanked him away, sending him flying into the window of a shop on the other side of the street.
Sarah got up and looked over to where the tail retracted to, there were her friends Fang, T.O.M and…
"Doc?" she frowned.
Suddenly the robot re-emerged from the devastated shop, his gun still aiming at her.
"Don't think you can get away with everything you've done because you can't!" he said.
"Guess that makes it official…parallel future!" said Dr Sprocket, staring at his other self.
"I said that this is something I never wanted to see! Two Junk-heads in the same place!" said Fang.
"Hey Doc, what are you doing over there pointing a gun at Sarah?" asked T.O.M.
"That's not me, well it is me but that's…never mind," Dr Sprocket then took out his own blaster from his arm and pointed it at his counterpart, "Didn't think I'd be pointing a gun at myself but…"
He fired a laser and it struck his counterpart in the head, knocking him sideways. When he recovered he looked to where the shot had come from and he saw the three monsters standing close by.
"What is this? Some kind of trick to mess with my head?" he said.
"No trick! We are really real! I have proof: Dr Sprocket PhD, born 18th April 1938, IQ of 4796+, personal license number 7528 2994!" said Sprocket.
"You have a license number?" frowned Fang.
"Shush."
"That's…that's correct! I never told anyone that!" said the other Sprocket, lowering his weapon.
"There's no need to point that gun at us, we're friendly…" said Sarah, slowly walking towards him but the robot then aimed his gun at her again.
"You are no friendly! Other world or not!" he said.
"Seriously, man, what problem have you got with Sarah?" said Sprocket.
Before he could answer there came what sounded like fighter jets flying overhead. They all looked up to the skies and from the smoke came dozens of androids, all of them landing on the roofs of the half demolished buildings around them. They all glared down at the monsters in the streets.
"Um…friends of yours?" asked Sarah.
"Certainly not."
Multiple Targets Located. Begin Eradication.
The androids took out guns from their forearms and fired into the streets, the ripped up roads exploded like fireworks as debris flew everywhere. Fang, T.O.M and Dr Sprocket took shelter under a pulled up part of road. Sarah dived into a burnt out car to shield herself from the blasts as the future Dr Sprocket engaged the androids and returned fire, knocking out several of them before taking cover by the car Sarah was hiding in.
"You really are from an alternate past?" He said, keeping his head down as Sarah slowly poked her head out the window.
"So is this what happened to the world? It got invaded by killer robots from outer space?"
"What? No. The androids came from Earth, they weren't responsible for the worlds end, they're simply following orders from the highest authority!" he told her.
"Who's the highest authority?" she asked. Sprocket didn't answer; he just turned to look at her. His fixed expression made her insides go cold as she knew who he was referring to. She slowly shook her head in disbelief as her mouth went up and down before finally uttering, "No…"
More explosions went off near them, rattling the car. Sprocket forced her head down as he fired at the androids once again, he looked back at the other monsters hiding under the concrete block, "Any time you want to pitch in and help!" he yelled.
Fang jumped out from cover and used his extendable body to weave through the laser fire, he held out his arms and as he passed a row of androids his claws cleaved into them and they collapsed into two pieces.
T.O.M joined in by using his many vines to throw rocks at the robots in rapid succession. Dr Sprocket turned his arm into a launcher with a small missile in it, he fired it at a single android and it unloaded an acidic compound onto it which dissolved it to a molten puddle.
The future Dr Sprocket used the laser turrets attached to his shoulders and wiped a dozen more androids before a robot landed next to him and punched him hard, he ploughed through the ground, gathering up several cars along the way before coming to a rest with sparks coming out of his joints.
Sarah watched from her car as the androids advanced on the future Doc, getting ready to tear him apart. Despite him aiming a gun at her she couldn't let them kill him.
As her outfit lit up she began growing bigger whilst still in the car, her arms went through the windows and her feet went through the floor, hoisting the car shell off the ground. As her body swelled the car frame bent and twisted under the immense strain before finally exploding and freeing the giantess.
She stomped the ground hard and made the androids lose their balance, then she began smashing them with her fist like some kind of whack-a-mole game.
The future Sprocket re-activated and saw the giantess defending him, as he got up she looked at him.
"Are you okay?" Titana asked.
(Encountering resistance. Reinforcements requested.)
"We have to get out of here! Now!" he said.
"Where to?" asked Fang as he and the others joined him, laser fire still raining down around them.
"Back to my base! We can get there by the sewers and lose the androids!" he said.
Titana brushed off a chunk of debris to reveal a manhole cover, as she shrank down the future Sprocket prized off the lid and pointed down the hole, "DOWN! NOW!"
They all jumped down into the sewers and when future Sprocket climbed down he welded the lid so the androids couldn't follow.
Down in the dank, dark sewer tunnel both cyborgs used the lights built into their bodies to illuminate the tunnel.
"Funny, thought there'd be more 'stuff' down here?" said Fang, looking at the bone dry floor.
"There's been no sewage through here for years because there's no-one around to use it anymore!" said future Sprocket, "Follow me and I'll take you to my base,"
"Your base? What happened to Area Fifty-Unknown? What happened to us?" asked Fang as they began following him along the tunnel.
"Area Fifty-Unknown was destroyed years ago just after doomsday."
"Doomsday? Doctor, what happened to the world?" asked Dr Sprocket.
"My proper name is Magnus Springer. I don't call myself 'Doctor' or 'Sprocket' anymore. The name monster has been dragged through the blood."
"You mean mud?"
"I know what I said."
"Doc…Magnus, start from the beginning, what caused everything to go to hell?" said Sarah, she had to know why Magnus was treating her like public enemy number one.
"Seven years ago we received a call from San Francisco, an unidentified object had appeared in Alamo Square Park, believing it to be alien in origin Team monster was sent to investigate. When we arrived we found a large black sphere with glowing green symbols on it, when running my scanners over it I discovered the metals were actually from Earth. Sarah went to touch it and that's when I, and everyone else, discovered that the device was a bomb, a bomb powered by Quantronium,"
Sarah stopped dead in her tracks, "No, you don't mean…"
"The Quantronium in Sarah's body triggered the detonation and the blast wiped out the entire city. 840,000 people died that day, including Fang and T.O.M."
Now Fang and T.O.M stopped walking, "We….died?"
"Go on." Said Sprocket, wanting to hear the rest.
"Sarah survived the explosion because her body could absorb all kinds of energies, including explosions. She emerged from the crater to find herself the only human survivor and murderer of thousands, that was the day that broke her,"
Sarah was in tears now but she tried to stay quiet as they continued on through the tunnel.
"It seemed that all this time there had been separate government groups who saw monsters as a threat and they wanted to prove that to the world so they designed the bomb and tricked Sarah into detonating it, what are a few thousand lives just to prove you're right? A few days later the Hail Mary Pass was revoked and all monsters were deemed a threat to mankind. No imprisonments this time though, just catch and kill. One by one, anyone who was a monster or associated with monsters were executed for their 'crimes against the world'. Rex, Vespa, my son, they were all put to death,"
"This can't have happened! This can't have happened!" Fang said to himself quietly.
"Soon Sarah was the only monster left and her family had made sure she was hidden someplace where the authorities couldn't find her. But then one day the military came, they broke into the Miller home, dragged them into the street demanding where they were hiding her, when they refused they were executed in front of the media,"
Sarah let out a cry as she covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face. Dr Sprocket and T.O.M had to hold her up as she wept.
Magnus didn't react to her sorrow because he had more to say, "When Sarah learned of her families' murder, the sweet little innocent girl from California was no more. From that moment on she abandoned all that was left of her humanity and became the 150 foot Megarah, vowing never to be small or human again; she was going to be the monster they wanted her to be. In the weeks that followed she went on a rampage and destroyed one town after another, levelling them all to ruins. No matter how hard the military tried she could not be stopped as she killed thousands of people wherever she went. When she came to a city there was no stopping her, within hours Vegas, Chicago and Washington had been torn down and the streets burning with the dead scattered everywhere,"
At last they reached a large iron door with a keypad in the middle, Magnus typed in the passcode on the keypad and the door swung open. They all entered into a small office that had been turned into a makeshift lab, full of half-finished devices and robot parts. Magnus started up a generator in the corner and plugged himself into it. The monsters found places to sit as he continued with his story.
"Soon all of America had been devastated by Megarahs wrath and millions had been killed by her hand, with all those closest to her now dead she had no sympathy for the human race anymore. She wanted to wipe everyone out. In a last ditch attempt to end her rampage the world leaders dropped several nukes on her, only to find she had absorbed the radiation instead, making her highly radioactive. Discovering this she went to every nuclear power plant she could find and tore them apart, absorbing all the nuclear material till she became more radioactive than a thousand Chernobyl's. Gaining control over it she was able to extend her radioactive field across the country, killing any survivors by radiation poisoning. The radiation spread across the world and killed billions. To this day there is only 10 percent of the Earth's population still alive, any survivors now hiding underground trying to stay clear of the radiation that's suffocating the world."
The monsters sat quietly, stunned at what they had learned, except for Sarah who continued to weep through her hands.
"But…but what about those androids? You said they follow the highest authority?" said Sprocket.
"And that would be Megarah. Those androids were originally made by those who made the bomb, to 'replace' monsters as protectors of Earth. They were programmed to follow their creators but when Megarah killed them all she took control of them and sent them to kill any survivors they could find."
"And what about you? You said you were in San Francisco as well?"
"Yes but being a robot I also survived the blast, however I ended up buried under a mountain of rubble. It took me a year to dig myself out and by then the world had descended into anarchy. Since then I've been trying to find ways to stop Sarah but so far have only been able to escape being blown to kingdom come!"
"I can't believe this…I can't believe I could do something like this…" said Sarah, looking down at her hands as her tears fell on them, for a brief moment she saw the tears turn red as they soaked her hands. Dr Sprocket grabbed her shoulder and shook her out of it.
"Knock that off, my dear! You are not responsible for this! You are not capable of causing such widespread destruction!" he told her.
"Aren't I? We don't know what I'm capable of, what if I lose it just like she did?"
"Then your friends had better be ready to put a bullet in your head." Said Magnus coldly.
"It won't come to that because now we know not to touch large black balls of doom!" said T.O.M.
"You say you're from a parallel world? Then it could still happen another way. Sarah is without a doubt the most powerful and destructive force on the planet. Even destroyed our old base with General Monger and the aliens still inside. She cannot be stopped and right now she's using Washington as her own personal fortress, she even turned the White House into a throne!"
"She's here? In this city?" said Sarah, looking up at Magnus as she dried her eyes.
"I said I've been trying to stop her but those androids keep getting in the way, no human could do it either because the radiation Sarah's body emits would kill anyone in a ten mile radius!"
"Then it's a good job you got reinforcements today," said Sarah, standing up quickly.
"My dear? What do you mean?" asked Dr Sprocket.
"We need to stop me/her before all life is gone. She may have lost those she loved and I can sympathize but her genocide of humanity has to stop! And I'm the only one who can do it!"
"You won't stand a chance, she's several years more advanced than you, has way more energy inside her body making her a lot stronger and she is not afraid to kill!" said Magnus, rolling his eyes.
"I didn't say the odds weren't stacked against me but she needs to be stopped, and I have something she doesn't,"
"Is it a giant jar of pickles?" asked T.O.M.
"Friends. Now let's go."
Reluctantly Magnus agreed and began taking them through the tunnels again, this time heading for the White House. Eventually they came to a ladder that went to the surface; they crawled out onto a street just as devastated as the one they had left.
"This is the closest I've been able to get to her before her guards drove me back!" said Magnus, loading his weapons.
"Connecticut Avenue." Said Dr Sprocket using his GPS, "The White House is directly North West of us!"
"Hey, guys! Look! More flying robots!" said T.O.M, pointing to the skies.
They all looked North West and saw what looked like a thousand androids all heading in their direction.
"Rust buckets! She must have increased security since last time! Sorry but we won't be making any attack today!" said Magnus.
"No, we don't run! We stand our ground!" said Sarah.
"Indeed! My dear, we will handle the androids, you go and confront your future self!" said Dr Sprocket, taking out his laser cannon.
"What?! I can't leave you on your own!" she said.
"We'll be fine! I like opening tin cans!" Fang said eagerly, his claws lengthening.
"Yeah, you go and kick your butt, Sarah!" said T.O.M.
Sarah didn't want to abandon her friends, to have them fight the androids without her, but she knew she probably drew the short straw as fighting a future killer version of herself was going to be way worse. She nodded and then took off down the street, several androids noticed her but before they could advance on her her friends intercepted them and tore them apart, leaving her free to make her way to the ruins of the White House.
When she got there the sight of the place took what was left of her breath away, the White House wasn't so much white or a house anymore, it looked more like a pile of blackened rubble and sitting on top of it like it was an armchair was Megarah, the future Megarah, the mass murderer Megarah.
As Sarah slowly crept through the rubble towards the front of the building she got a good look of what she looked like now. The years had not been kind, her golden blonde hair had been reduced to a buzz cut and she had a massive scar down the left side of her face, leaving her blind in her left eye, the beautiful blue of her eye was now a glassy white as she sat brooding. Her outfit was torn and tattered till it was almost unrecognisable, the sleeves had been ripped away, the pants torn from the knees and she no longer had shoes.
Sarah knew there was no hope in talking to her so she had no choice but to take her on whilst she had the element of surprise. She took a deep breath and then as quickly as she could she grew to her full height, grabbed a chunk of rubble and threw it at the future Megarah. The rubble hit her straight in the face, knocking her out of her handmade throne.
"Who…who dares…?" she snarled as she got up and saw the younger Sarah standing there, "What is this?"
"Trust me, this is as messed up for me as it is for you!" she said as she delivered an upper cut and got her future self squarely in the jaw, sending her up in the air and then back down on top of the White House remnants.
"So…this is what the humans have come to, cloning me because I'm the only one strong enough? Well it won't work!" she got back up and charged Sarah, slamming her fists on either side of her head, stunning her. She then grabbed her by her waist and lifted her into the air before planting her face squarely into the ground. Sarah responded by kicking her feet back and pushing her future self off of her. She got back up and the two giantesses stood their distance, slowly circling one another.
"If the humans think they can get rid of me like they did my fellow monsters then they can think again! I'll destroy every last one of them! I'll grind their frail bodies under my feet and use their bones as jewellery!"
"Listen to yourself! Don't you hear what you sound like? This isn't you! You…we don't hurt innocent people, we're not capable of that!"
"Don't lecture me! No one has the right to decide what I could and couldn't do since the day they took everything from me! This is my world now and I decide who lives and who dies!"
"No one has the right to that decision!"
"The decision IS mine when they tricked me into killing thousands, making me a weapon of mass destruction, when they took my family and friends from me! They wanted a monster and I gave them one!"
"Please, just stop this, I don't want to see myself end up like this!" she pleaded.
"So…you're not a clone?"
"I'm from the past, A past anyway."
"This…this changes things, slightly. If I kill you then I cease to exist and my family will still be alive!"
Before she could correct her Megarah went for her throat and began throttling her, causing her to lose her balance and crash to the ground, she thought that if she could grab her hair she could get her off her but then remembered her future self had shaved her head.
The other monsters were having to dance and dive as they fought the androids that were much tougher than the last ones. Both cyborgs were firing lasers and rockets at the skies in the hope of hitting one that flew past. Fang got several in a bind and crushed them tightly till they were all crumpled together and T.O.M used his ability to regenerate by letting the androids surround him and open fire, the lasers going straight through him and taking out another android.
"How many of these things are there?" asked Dr Sprocket.
"Their production is on-going in a facility that I was never able to find; whenever one is destroyed the facility would make three more. There's probably billions circling the whole planet!" said Magnus.
"Look out!"
An android landed next to Magnus and was able to swipe at him when Dr Sprocket fired one of his special missiles into its chest. The android then started jumping around as he gradually exploded into tiny pieces.
"Firecracker Surprise! MWAHAHAHA!"
"Wow…"
"What?"
"Nothing. It's just…it's been so long since I've heard a good mad laugh!"
"Whoo! Hit the deck!" yelled Fang as a nearby building came tumbling down, pushed over by the androids.
The two robots simultaneously fired rockets at the building and instantly covered it in ice, preventing it from falling.
"Guess there's some mad stuff we still haven't forgotten?" Sprocket smirked.
Sarah was gasping for breath as her future self continued to strangle the life out of her. In sheer desperation she grabbed Megarahs head and instead of pushing her away she pulled her down and their foreheads collided, causing a loud bang which made Megarah let go of her.
Sarah rolled onto her front as she gasped for air, her head pounding but her lungs happy to breathe again. Seconds later she felt hands on her leg and then her whole body left the ground; Megarah was swinging her around like she was doing a hammer throw. Sarahs head came into contact with nearby piles of rubble, lampposts and the ground several times before she was released and sent flying into the remains of the Washington monument.
"Once I've killed you I will finally have peace!" said Megarah, slowly walking over to her. She then punched her fists into the ground and with a great heave she tore up an enormous chunk of the ground and held it above her head. She was going to drop it on top of her younger self and crush her.
With her body crying in pain Sarah got back on her feet and picked up the fallen monument, with one big swing she whacked Megarah in the side, the monument exploded against her body, making her drop the giant boulder on top of her.
As the dust settled Sarah could see her crawling out of the rubble, she ran at her future self and was about to tackle her when she shrank back down to Titana, slid between her legs and grew again behind her, she smashed another block of rubble on the back of her head and Megarah fell forward.
"This has to end! One way or another I will stop you hurting anyone else!" she told her.
"People don't deserve to live! One day you'll see humanity for what it really is! AAAAHHH!"
Megarah, whose head was now bleeding, lunged at Sarah again and the two giantesses began taking their fight into the streets of Washington.
The streets were now covered in android parts but it seemed to make no difference as more and more robots filled the skies. Fang was now using a car hood as a shield as more and more lasers came their way. Magnus was running out of ammo and Dr Sprocket's motors were overheating from constant dodging of laser fire. T.O.M was happily bouncing around and using his vines to knock androids over but soon they grabbed him and threw him into the bedroom of a three story apartment.
"Mate!" cried Fang and he snaked his way up to the apartment building. He entered the apartment and found T.O.M in the kitchen helping himself to contents in the fridge, "Seriously? That stuffs like seven years outta date!"
"Still tasty though," he said before belching.
The two robots used their in-built flight modes to get up to the apartment and join them.
"Barricade the front door and we can hold them off at that one opening!" said Magnus.
Fang grabbed the fridge, prizing it away from his buddy and stacking it against the door along with the wardrobe and bed. They then turned over the dining table and placed it between the sofa and the hole, creating a barricade for them to hide behind.
"This is the last stand, isn't it?" said Fang to Dr Sprocket.
"I'm not sure how much longer we can last! The androids will just keep coming and we're running on empty!" said the robo-doc.
The two giantesses were now in the streets of Washington and were firmly grappled to one another. But soon Megarah with her super charged body began pushing Sarah back, she dug her feet into the ground but her sneakers simply ripped through the road like a plough in a field. No matter how hard she tried Sarah couldn't push back as her future self had a face so full of hatred that it terrified her.
"Kill you! I'll kill you!" she snarled.
Sarah then rolled onto her back, lifting Megarah off the ground and then she kicked her away, sending tumbling down the street, crushing cars and making them explode as she rolled along. Sarah got back on her feet, worn out and bruised all over as she looked down the street to see where her evil self had ended up. From the smoke and dust she could make out an apartment building rising up from the others and then moving to the middle of the street.
"Oh no…"
Megarah emerged from the smoke, holding an entire building above her head, her face looking like a savage beast covered in blood as she snorted loudly.
"Hold still you little…"
Sarah then removed her hairband, letting her golden blonde hair fall freely, and she threw it like a boomerang. It spun through the air and at 13 feet in diameter it made a loud buzz like a helicopter blade as it came into contact with Megarahs face. Megarah lost her balance and fell over, letting the building fall on top of her.
Not giving her the chance to get up again Sarah dashed over to the rubble, picked up her hairband and slipping it back, and rummaged through the rubble. She found an arm and grabbed it tightly; bricks and metal cables went flying everywhere as the giantess was yanked out with great force. Sarah slammed Megarah into the side of a taller building, the last of its windows shattering on impact. She pressed her firmly against the building, Megarahs body slowly sinking into the building with bricks crumbling over her. Sarah brought her fist back and punched her future self hard in the face, creating a sonic boom which blew the dust and smoke away. She punched her again and again. Her anger boiling over till she was almost blinded by rage.
Then she stopped herself, she knew she was losing control and had to prove to herself that she would not be the monster they wanted her to be.
"See? You're…koff...just like me! You'll lose control, give in to hate, they'll push you to it and everyone will die!" said Megarah, coughing up blood.
"No! No matter what happens, how bad things get, I won't cross that line! I know what you lost and I'm sorry but what you've done is beyond forgivable!" said Sarah, getting ready to punch her again.
"They took them from me! My family! They killed them all!"
"I know. I'm sorry."
"My Mom, Dad, Gran, my cousin, my sister, my uncle, all of them dead!"
"I know, I know, I…wait…what did you say?" Sarah suddenly felt as if she had been struck by lightning as all the strength in her disappeared.
Megarah noticed Sarah lower her guard and took advantage; whilst she wasn't looking she grabbed a sharp piece of shrapnel and stabbed the giantess in the shoulder. Sarah screamed as the mother of all pain seared through her shoulder. She staggered away from Megarah with the shrapnel sticking in her left shoulder. Her tears left marks on her dirty face as she tried to get it out but just touching it made it hurt more. At the last second she saw Megarah smack her in the face, sending the 150 foot blonde crashing to the ground, flattening a school bus and newsstand underneath her.
In too much shock to move Megarah knelt over the beaten Sarah, holding a large clump of rock above her head, she was going to bring it down and crush Sarah's skull.
"It ends here! The final kill!"
Sarah closed her eyes as she couldn't bear to see her future self end her own life. She waited for the end, and waited…and waited…
"What…what's happening?"
Sarah opened her eyes and saw Megarah was still holding the rock above her head but now her whole body was glowing green. Before even of them could speak the Quantronium started to leave Megarahs body, it swirled around them for a moment and then began fusing with Sarahs body.
"N-No! What are you doing to me?" she yelled.
"I-I don't know!" said Sarah. The pain in her shoulder starting to ebb away.
Before her eyes she started to see Megarah shrink down, the rock fell out of her hands as it became too heavy for her. The evil giantess dropped to her knees as the last of her Quantronium abandoned her and joined Sarah who slowly staggered to her feet.
The other monsters were close to giving up as the androids kept coming and were just within grabbing distance of them when suddenly they all froze to the spot like statues. The monsters blinked at them for a moment, wandering what they were doing and then the androids snapped to attention and the lights in their eyes switched off.
"They're powering down!" said Dr Sprocket.
"Is it their bed time?" said T.O.M, walking up to an android and knocking it on the head, a loud clanging sound as he tapped the metal.
"That means she did it! It's over! Your Sarah managed to kill mine!" said Magnus with great relief, his guns smoking as they were exhausted of all ammunition.
"She can't have! Our Sarah could never be capable of killing someone!" said Fang, finding it hard to believe.
"Well whatever happened has saved us! We'd better go find Sarah!" said Dr Sprocket.
They left the apartment building, androids were everywhere and all stood at attention, and made their way down the ruined streets. Eventually they found Sarah, their Sarah, in her Megarah form, alive and well but confused as she looked at her hands. Her bruises were all disappearing as her body glowed green.
"My dear, what happened to you?" asked Dr Sprocket.
"I don't know! One minute she was about to kill me, the next…" she looked at where she had been stabbed, the shrapnel had fallen out and the wound healed, only a tear in her outfit remained, "Her Quantronium went into me and now she's…" she looked down at her feet as the others did the same.
By the giantesses foot was the future Sarah, reduced to her miniscule five foot stature, once so powerful and mighty and now frail and pathetic as she wheezed loudly.
Magnus smacked the side of his head, "Of course! I always had a theory about this; the Quantronium must be sentient in some way and bonds with whoever is pure of heart! When she started killing people she was no longer worthy of the element but it could not bond with anyone else because there was no one left!"
Sarah shrank back to normal height and the glowing disappeared, leaving her normal looking. She looked herself all over to see if anything had changed but she seemed pretty much the same. A choking sound brought her back to her future self lying on the ground; she seemed to be struggling to breath.
"What's wrong with her?"
"She's dying." Said Magnus.
"What? How? Taking the Quantronium out of your body doesn't kill you!"
"She's had massive amounts of radiation flowing inside her for years and now the Quantonium's gone its killing her." said Dr Sprocket; his scans showed her organs were shutting down.
The monsters didn't seem too bothered that the killer of the world was breathing her last breaths but Sarah knelt beside her and held her in her arms, despite everything she had done she still felt sorry for what had happened to her.
"I'm sorry. Go be with your family." She said softly, a tear in her eye.
Her future self took one last breath and looked to the sky, "Abigail…I'm…sorry…"
Her body went limp as her remaining breath escaped her. She was dead.
Using his scanners Dr Sprocket was able to locate the Time Scar once again, hiding inside a hollowed out diner. Fang and T.O.M were so relieved to see it again even if it was the cause of all their recent problems.
"And you're absolutely sure this extra Quantronium isn't going to affect me in anyway?" Sarah asked the robots, "I mean I was in a really bad way before and now I'm completely unscathed!"
"Remember what happened to the bride when she became fused with Quantronium, it healed her injuries as it bonded with her and it's done the same thing for you, that's all." Sprocket reassured her.
"All that's really happened is that you've regained the Quantronium that you lost before. There are no side effects of any kind. You can still change between 5, 50 and 150 feet due to the fusion with the Xtremium." Said Magnus.
"Phew! That's a relief! I thought I was going to have to find a new name for a 500 foot version of me!" said Sarah thankfully.
Dr Sprocket then turned to his future self, "So…what are you going to do now?"
"With my Sarah now dead the androids will start following the next highest authority, which happens to now be me. I'll instruct them to repair the world and clear away all radiated areas before looking for survivors. It's time to save the world again. Thank you for freeing us."
The robo-doc looked out over the destroyed Washington one last time, "Just wish it didn't have to be like this,"
"I have no memory of ever going to the future and witnessing all this so maybe, just maybe, your world will be spared this nightmare." Said Magnus.
"Hey, Bro, got anymore salt on ya?" Fang asked T.O.M.
"Let me have a look," the mutant veg said as he pulled the food sack out of his body and looked in it, "Running a little low,"
"Salt?" frowned Magnus.
"Throwing salt in the Time Scar is what brought us here," explained Dr Sprocket, "I guess we just have to keep repeating the process till we find our world again."
Magnus then laughed, something he hadn't done for years, "You copper headed fool! You're a mad scientist! Surely you've figured out how to fix this?"
They all looked at him and then at Dr Sprocket who was starting to feel a little bit of a fool, "Um….no?"
"This has mad science written all over it," said Magnus, pointing at the flickering streak of light, "If salt is what made it go bad then…"
He walked over to a diner table and took a pepper shaker. He then threw the pepper into the Time Scar and held onto a fixed down seat as the wound in time glowed green and began sucking in the monsters, "See you around!" he called as the monsters were pulled into the crack and then disappeared.
WHOOSH!
The four of them hit the ground hard; after laying on the ground for a few minutes they heard a loud humming noise which sounded an awful lot like…
"It's the Main Reactor Core! We're back in our own base again!" cheered Fang as he jumped to his feet.
They all got up and looked at the towering pillar of blue energy. They were exactly where they were when they first went through the Time Scar.
"It would seem that I too have a lot to learn about mad science," said Dr Sprocket as he saw the Time Scar close up and then disappear completely.
"So that's it? No more time travel?" asked T.O.M.
"It would appear so."
"Right. LUNCH!" he declared and he ran out the room.
"Well, that was quite a trip," said Fang, feeling his bruised hands from all the android slashing, "But we sure learned a few things, like we are not alone in the universe!"
"Multiverse. No we are not. But there are many unanswered questions that we picked up along the way." Said the robo-doc.
"Like what, Doc?"
"For instance, are there groups out there plotting to get rid of all monsters? And there's the meteorite!"
"What about the meteorite?"
"The one that struck the bride, we removed it and buried it in a field, that world will probably be wondering what became of it,"
"So?"
"So: what became of the meteorite that landed on Sarah? That was never found either, it was believed to have disintegrated but now we know better. So where did it go?"
Sarah meanwhile was not listening to a word the pair of them were saying. For her there was only one question she needed answering.
"I have a sister?"
