Me: Alright! Hey ladies and gents, and welcome to the first chapter of 2016! :D Hoorayy! Lol, sorry for the lack of enthusiasm today you guys. I've had a really bad start to 2016. A family friend died the day before Christmas, we've been dealing with that, my uncle's wife's sister just died a couple days ago, I've been really super sick due to the freaking weather, another family friend died a couple days ago, so y'know, I've been dealing with a lot of crap. But in the mix of it all I've managed to get this chapter done! I'm going to TRY not to take so long with the next one, but I can't control life. Things happen, and things get crazy, and I'm hoping no more deaths, I'm really just hoping we're done with those for a while... Um, I've got a tie for the next story in YGO In Character, so if you guys wanna head over there and vote on which one is next, it's the most recent chapter of it. A number or the title will suffice, I just need votes for it so I can get to work uploading that. All WILL be added eventually the votes are just for which one gets uploaded first. So, lemme know on that.

To cd (guest): I apologize for not replying to this sooner. This is not Yami's old house that they were at. It was just an old training ground that the FDI used to use before they got their new one.

To Rosehaven17: I'm glad to hear that :) It's my goal to bring people into the story, and I cried just as much writing this story XD Thanks so much, and I hope I continue to keep you interested.

Hey, that's it for reviews, I'm happy to be getting such positive feedback from all of you. I'm glad you're all enjoying it, and don't be afraid to ask questions if you have any. I'm happy to answer them all, and if you don't want to leave a review, then just PM me and ask, I'll answer it when I get a chance. If I don't respond immediately, please be patient, I don't ignore people, I promise, I just have a busy schedule. So, all that being said, I hope you all enjoy the chapter!

I do not own YGO or anything pertaining to YGO. This is a fan made fic made for entertainment purposes only. Enjoy~!

Chapter 54

Completion

Yami looked at the three canines that sat attentively in front of him. He'd kept them in the house that morning while he went to hide the other piece to the clothing he was holding. Today was the day before Christmas Eve, and the kids would be coming home for break if they hadn't already. So, it was time to wrap up the training, and make sure the dogs were ready without rushing them.

He held up one piece of the clothing to each dog. Yugi's to Achille, Yuki to Arata, and Akari to Asuka, allowing each of them to smell their target. The three canines sat still, waiting for their command, watching Yami's hands as he tucked the clothing pieces into his pocket. He threw his arm outward, pointing away from himself "Search" he ordered, watching the canines take off running through the trees.

Once he was sure they were far enough away, he turned around and ran off. Yami ran across the driveway, jumping down into a hole that was a ways away from his previous position. From that point he listened, waiting for the barking of the dogs when they returned.

It took a few minutes for them to work their way back, but it didn't take half as long for them to work themselves into a frenzy when they couldn't find their master. Yami heard the barking, and the sound of chaos as they ran into things in their search for their missing instructor. "Help!" He yelled, watching his watch to measure the response time. In addition to hiding the articles of clothing, he'd also taken the time to hide the things the dogs would need to rescue him. Things like, a rope, which was conveniently placed inside the house, behind closed doors. So the dogs would have to open them to save him. He'd also hidden fake traps about, so they would have to smell carefully, or they could risk being blown up in a real emergency. Only the hidden cameras would tell if they were careful enough.

It took little to no time for the dogs to find him, whining and whimpering when they realized they couldn't reach him. Achille paced the hole opening, distressed by his master's current position. The dogs knew what rope was, they'd worked with it enough to know exactly what it was. "Go get some rope! I'm trapped down here!"

He didn't give the order to watch out for danger, simply because they'd been working long enough for that to be a common sense thing for these dogs. They knew their training was meant for protection purposes. They were in no way dumb dogs. They ran the obstacle course with ease, jumping every hurdle, crawling out of every small space, and getting through quick with agility. They'd also trained for bomb detection, drug searching, search and rescue, and every other special ops tactic they would need to know. Their eyes were sharp, hearing could pick up the tiniest of sounds, and their movements had become quiet as a mouse, while still being quick and precise.

They had learned many saving strategies, and knew of multiple ways to get out of danger, or get their masters out of danger. This was to test them and make sure that they remembered.

Yami had sprinkled gun powder inside the door, so if they sniffed there they would know not to use that door, something was behind it that wasn't supposed to be there. He'd hidden the rope in a cupboard in the kitchen. There were three doors into the house, two with gunpowder. But if the dogs observed closely, they'd also save time and go through the open window. He could hear Achille sniffing around, staying close to the hole Yami was trapped in, just in case someone decided to finish him off easily.

He smiled listening to the Mastiff pace the hole. After a few minutes, Yami realized he wasn't just pacing the hole, he was digging. When a scoop of dirt fell in his hair, there was no doubt that Achille was making the perfectly squared hole a little less square. It seemed as if Achille had picked up on more than just training to protect. He'd picked up on how to be a dog again. At first he'd shied away, and ran to hide from people, or he'd lay there and not play around at all. But now he'd learned a whole new way of looking at life, and he wagged his tail once again.

The man chuckled, shaking the dirt from his hair. The canines shadow loomed over him once he was done, checking on his condition after hearing him make noise. "Ya got me all dirty" the man accused playfully. Achille merely wagged his tail and went back to saving his master. Barks were heard as Arata and Asuka came running back over. One end of the rope fell down the hole in the dip Achille had made, the other remaining in Arata's mouth. The young male looked down the hole at him, waiting to make sure he had hold of the rope. "Alright, find something sturdy."

Arata ran off, the rope unwinding as he ran to a nearby beam, running around it a couple times before pulling it tight. He stood with his paws forward, body leaning back, and teeth clenched into the rope. Achille and Asuka grabbed the rope in their mouths and began pulling, the three of them working together to get Yami back up on the ground he belonged on.

The three canines ran over, tackling him to the ground once he got up and dusted himself off. "Aww, I just dusted myself off" he chuckled through the licks. "Alright, alright. C'mon, lets go finish packing."

The four of them ran to the house, Arata tackling Asuka on their way. Asuka responded with a bite to his ankles that sent him to the ground. She pranced away from him with her tail in the air, Yami shaking his head as the two continued their behavior, stopping only when Achille let them know enough was enough. Enough just happened to be him being tackled to the ground in the mix of things.

Yami sat down and watched the cameras before leaving. Which revealed Asuka looking around while Arata smelled the doors. Arata found the door after Asuka had found the window he'd left opened. The female had went in and found the rope in no time at all, probably using Yami's scent to track it down.

The best yet worst part about the training is that Arata and Asuka had learned to work together, and individually. They just happened to work together better. And they weren't going to be working together. Asuka would be in Tokyo with a special badge to allow her to attend the university with Akari, and Arata would be in Domino training with Yuki to be a police officer so they could carry on in Yami's footsteps.

He looked at the two Shepherds, the two of them looking at him, Arata with his tongue hanging out and Asuka waiting patiently, her eyes observing his every move. "You guys will be the last ones I train. I'm getting too old to do much anymore. As much as I'd hate to admit it, forty just isn't sitting too well.. I'll have to face facts one day, but at least I know I can depend on you three to protect those guys while I'm away. I want you to protect them with your lives. Don't let anything happen to them."

All three dogs perked up, their attention on him, knowing he was being serious. They barked in unison, letting him know they understood. "Alright, let's get home."

Everything was loaded up, the dogs jumped in, and everyone was on their way home for the holidays.

"Hey papa!" Akari greeted happily, running over to hug her younger father.

"Hey sweetie. How are you?" Yugi greeted with a smile.

"I'm good. Is daddy back home yet?" She asked, her head twisting around to search for the older man.

"Not yet- oh, there's Yuki."

"Big brother!" Akari chirped once her brother got out of his truck.

"Hey 'Kar" Yuki chuckled, hugging his sister as she came over.

"How are you doing, Kiseki?" Yugi asked the silver haired teen.

"I'm good, Yugi. How are you?"

"Good as well. How about some hot cocoa?"

"That sounds great" the two continued their small talk as the four of them headed into the house.

It took around an hour and half for Yami to get to the house. The twins came running out with Yugi as he pulled in, the two younger ones tackling him right away, nearly knocking him off his feet. "Jeeze, I forgot how big you two were" the older man chuckled.

"I'm not too big, am I?" Yugi asked as the twins went running to the back seat.

"I don't think I've ever known you to be big" Yami chuckled, wrapping his arms around his husband. The two of them leaned in slowly, sharing a long, passionate kiss.

Kiseki leaned her head on Yuki's shoulder, a smile on her face at the loving reunion.

"I've missed you" Yugi said with a smile.

"I've missed you too. But, they are all three trained" he informed them, backing them up as he opened the doors. "Sit" he commanded as they all three jumped out. All three sat, though their tails couldn't stop wagging. "Arata, Asuka. Knock 'em down!" he ordered playfully, the pups happily following the order as they knocked Yuki and Akari to the ground.

"C'mon Achille, let's go inside" he chuckled, ruffling the massive dog's ears.

Achille trotted over, rubbing against Yugi's legs in greeting. "Hello deary" he greeted the hound with a playful pat.

The family went in the house, joined by Kiseki as she waited for her fathers. Yuki and Akari sat on the couch, Kiseki sitting on Yuki's leg while playing with Arata. The canine enjoyed being played with, which he showed by going to get his toy rope. Asuka snuggled up on the couch, her head laying on Akari's lap.

"Asuka is probably tired" Yami told her "She's worked hard today. Not that Arata hasn't, it's just he's naturally excited. He has a lot of energy to spare, but will be serious when it's needed. Achille here is worn out from digging and throwing dirt on my head" he chuckled, ruffling the dog's ears. The mastiff continued to sleep on, curled up in front of the table beside Yami's rocking chair.

Yami kicked up his foot rest, the others watching with smiles as he slowly began to drift off. Arata let out a yawn, jumping up on the couch between Akari and Yuki, his head laying down beside his sister's as he too drifted off to dream land. "Looks like they had a long day" Yugi said, walking in from the laundry room with a blanket, which he draped over Yami's sleeping form. He placed a kiss on his forehead before returning to get more work done. "Yuki, will you and Kiseki help me real quick, since you don't have dogs on you."

"Sure thing, Pops."

Me: I know, I know, that isn't as long as most of you would've liked, but I've gotta get a move on with this story. It's kinda just drawing out, and we're at the calm before the storm (that's as close to a spoiler as you're getting) and I don't really wanna keep drawing it out and make it 100 chapters. I'd like to keep it going and if it ends up being 100 chapters then so be it. So anyway, until next time ladies and gents * waves * Goodbye! Have a great 2016!
