A/N: I always saw Tris and Dema as perfect friends. Dema is probably in his mid-twenties, so about 8-14 years older than Tris in Shatterglass. Dema and Keth don't always get along, but Tris and Dema never seemed to have conflicts in the novel. My take on their relationship c:

Sandry was the proper noble. She only displayed emotion when defending the weak.
Daja, like a true Trader, never got emotional except with family and close friends - who were, really, like family.
Briar was a street rat, through and through. He had learned how to disguise his emotions so nothing fazed him.
Tris had to train for years before she could control her emotions without causing a mini hurricane.
Even with four years of training, lightning still crackled around her eyes. Sparks traveled down the length of her body in lazy jolts of electricity. She didn't feel them. She unleashed them.
People were scared of Tris for a reason: she looked scary.
But on the inside, when she let down her guard, Tris was as nice and sensible as any merchant girl could be.
Dema saw Tris in this way when she was reading to little Glaki. The kind, gentle Tris, the motherly Tris.
In her, he saw a young woman who wanted nothing more than a comfortable life, and thank you for keeping your neb out of it!
Someone who craved peace and quiet. An old soul.
That was who she really was.
Someone he could relate to.
