Chapter 55-The Other Talk

Danny attempts to talk to Sean about his relationship with Alex only for it to backfire-spectacularly at Sunday Dinner.

Danny had tried to bring up the whole 'sex' thing but it hadn't been going that well.

It had been going spectacularly bad to be honest. It wasn't that he didn't trust Sean, and he knew (because he knew Sean) that he wasn't avoiding this because his son was gay. In fact quite the opposite.

But this was Sean; at least with Jack he had had the pleasure of denying it till it was thrust in his face. This was Sean…this was his baby. And it was that topic.

He was contemplating this on Sunday when he was half listening to the conversations around him when he realises his father is looking at him "You ok" he asks and Danny nodded.

"You can just ask you know?" Sean says his voice a low lit of amusement and Danny blinks "Ask what?" he asks and Sean rolls his eyes.

"Ask if me and Alex are having sex"

It's really the way he says it that causes the reaction. His dad pauses for the briefest of seconds before taking a long sip of his wine, Erin coughs a little, Jamie looks furious (though that might have to do with the six year old squirming next to him) and he doesn't even dare looking at his wife.

"Dad caught Alex sneaking out my bedroom this morning" Sean summarises and his father really does choke this time because yeah…so not the conversation they were supposed to be having.

"Are you?" he asks uncaring of the look Jamie gives him he just really doesn't want this conversation in front of his six year old but Theresa (Saint that she is) offers to take Katy into the kitchen.

"No" Sean says carefully watching him "I might though"

Danny flinches remembering the look of blissed out euphoria on Alex's face last night-he did not need those images in his head-ever.

Sean bares his teeth and pauses "Anyhow why is it of your concern"

"You were in our house" Danny deadpans back and Sean grins wolfishly "Suppose" he concedes "Besides" Danny says "Do you think it's possible that maybe you are using him a little bit-he seems to be under the impression that you are only ringing him round when your lonely"

Sean raises an eyebrow before dropping his eyes down to his plate "He does?" he asks playing with his fork and Danny wants to cheer because that at least is proof that his son does care about this man more than he wants to ever let on.

"Yep" he says watching Linda roll her eyes but God Damn it he is on a role here "He says he doesn't mind though-he loves you so much whatever you want is enough for him"

Sean watches him with wide blue eyes before dropping his folk and stomping out. "Well done" Erin comments "That should really help whatever dysfunctional relationship the two of them have improve"

And Danny is now nothing but utterly confused.

But like any good parent he supposes he has to speak to his son.

"What's wrong?" he asks stepping outside into the cool air and Sean blinks "Nothing" he says finally "Did he really say that?" he asks finally and Danny blinks at the sudden rush of warmth in his son's voice. It makes him realise something.

It's the same warmth that he feels when he thinks of Linda, that Jamie has when he thinks of Eddie, it's warm and cute and comforting like Jack and Theresa and familiar like his grandparents and parents.

Whatever happened, whatever has happened isn't going to change the fact that his son is head over ass in love with this man.

It's really a good thing that he doesn't hate Alex.

Not that he thinks that would make a difference.

"Figure out what you want from him" he councils his son wisely "It doesn't matter what's happened in the past but you cannot string the man along because you can Sean it's cruel"

Sean blinks before nodding. "I wish Jack was here" he says randomly and Danny pauses his heart twinging at the thought of his eldest somewhere in the Middle East before he inhales sharply "He knew what to do about this" he pauses

"No offense Dad you aint got a fucking clue"

He pauses leaving Danny in a state of shock as he staggers back inside. Both his boys are proud no denying it but there is still something about this whole thing that feels strange.

Ok so maybe it has something to do with Jack being away and Sean missing his brother but for once Danny hopes that Sean will get the happy ending his boy deserves.

For once as he looks out into the darkening day he wants something to go his family's way. Just this once.

Like I said I have no idea where I was going with this one so...

Next Chapter-Jack's back as a rookie with Jamie as his training officer but when there is a warning that an Officer's Down in the precinct where Jack is working with Jamie Danny panics when he can't get ahold of either his brother or his son
