In this chapter...Kendall realizes he's old and Ethan is still confused...

Chapter 51: Kendall's POV

I was sitting at the kitchen table, sipping my coffee and reading on the latest world news on my iPad. Ami walked in, causing me to smile.

"Hey baby girl," I smiled at my daughter.

"Hi papa, can I have a snack?" she asked.

"Do you want an apple?" I tried.

I tried to eat as organic and healthy as possible, so it never hurt to try with the kids, but I don't think Ami was having it.

"No, I'll just grab a bag of chips or something," she said, walking to the pantry.

"Doesn't hurt to try," I shrugged, going back to the iPad. "I'm going to get started on dinner in a little bit, so don't eat too much."

She grabbed her chips and took a seat next to me. I could feel her eyes on me, so I turned to meet her gaze.

"Why are you staring at me?" I was laughing.

"You seem bored," she observed.

I stopped. Honestly, I was. James was at work, and Adam and Jade were both moved out, so it was just Ami left and sometimes I missed hearing Adam and Jade bicker all day. I still wasn't used to it. But Ami is 5 and how she picked up on that, I will never know.

"Yeah, I don't really know why I'm reading news on the iPad," I chuckled, locking it.

I used to do such exciting things, even as the kids were growing up and that got me thinking. At the moment, I heard the door open, so I assumed that it was James. A few seconds later, Jade and Adam came into the clearing and I smiled instantly.

"Hey kids," I smiled. "What a nice surprise."

"We aren't kids anymore Pops," Jade chuckled. "What's going on around here?"

"He's reading iPad news," Ami said.

"Are you an old hermit?" Adam asked.

"Shush, I was just catching up on world events," I defended myself.

"You," Adam grabbed my arm, standing me up. "Need some more exciting events in your life. Try a new restaurant, go skydiving, book a movie, go on a hike. You're about to be in your late forties and we can't have you acting like a grandpa."

"Adam, you're so dramatic," I laughed.

"Nahhhh, I agree with him," Jade said.

"Me too," Ami also co-signed.

Maybe they were right. James and I just settled into this routine and now that we have another young child, we don't really focus on the exciting things anymore besides raising her. Maybe I am a hermit.

"Anyway, how are things with Evan?" I changed the subject, turning to Adam.

"Going great, I'm so happy that I ended up with him," Adam smiled. "He knows me so well and he does everything right. He's so supportive and honestly amazing."

It's always an amazing thing when you can see your child fall in love and be with the person they love.

"So…when do I become an aunt?" Jade asked.

"Not for a while," Adam frowned a little. "We want kids eventually, but not this soon. We want to get comfortable in our careers first. Besides, Ethan and Emma are already pregnant, imagine if Evan was too."

"So Evan would carry?" I asked, curiously.

"Well we both want to carry at least once," Adam explained. "We haven't decided who carries first."

"You guys are more planned out than me and your Dad. It took 20 years for your Dad to carry and even that wasn't supposed to happen."

"What?" Ami looked at me.

"Nothing sweetie."

"Anyway, Adam come play with me," Ami stood up, grabbing his hand.

"Why me?" he looked skeptical.

"Because you promised me forever ago and never did it," she looked mad now.

"You have a good memory little sister," he shrugged, following her to her room, leaving just Jade and I.

I glanced at Jade, who was smiling sadly in their general direction.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing," she shrugged.

"It's something, come on you can talk to your old man," I said.

She sighed before sitting down.

"It's just that I feel like I'm not getting anywhere," she said.

"What do you mean?" I asked. "You're like a super successful model. You've got your own clothing lines, you rock runways, you model for big magazines and they're even talking about giving you your own show. You're almost as famous as your father."

"Not in that aspect Pops," she sighed. "I just…don't want to be single anymore."

"Ohhhh," I said. "Somebody will come along, don't try to force it. You'll find someone that it feels natural to be with."

"That's the thing," she said. "Adam just married Evan and my sister is engaged and having a baby. My other brother is pregnant and about to get back with his long time ex Luke and it's just like when will it be my turn for all of that."

"Sweetie, I don't want you to worry," I said. "Just because your siblings are all doing these things doesn't mean you have to. You have your whole life ahead of you and you are beautiful. Someone will come I promise."

"Thanks Pops," she gave a small smile. "I have to just remind myself of that."

I nodded and it got silent.

"It's really weird to think that Evan and Adam are both my brothers but their married…both of my brothers are married to each other, but not technically related," Jade said thoughtfully.

I laughed.

"The family tree is very confusing," I agreed. "Also, I'm not so sure you want to follow in the footsteps of Ethan's journey."

"Yeah, not quite," she chuckled.

Ethan's POV

I was feeling great. I was 17 weeks into my pregnancy, in my second trimester and I was feeling better than I have in years. It's perfect because the second trimester is when sickness is over, but you don't have bad back pains or swelling yet and I had so much energy, I was practically a bunny that bounced around at work. I know that soon I'll enter trimester 3 and will just be anxious to get this baby out of me, but I was going to enjoy it for now.

I was currently laying on the couch; I had an off day and Laura was at school, so I was going to kick my feet up and watch some TV, maybe brainstorm some names. I had just kicked my feet up when I heard someone knock at the door.

"Come in!" I yelled.

I heard the door open and Luke stepped into the clearing.

"Hey Luke," I said, confused.

"You look disappointed," he said.

"I thought you were Tank, or my brother. Aren't you supposed to be at work?" I asked.

"I was but there was a minor fire in one of the wings so we're closed up for a few days till the building is repaired, so I figured I would come and check up on you," he said.

I subconsciously smiled. That was sweet of him. I quickly dropped the smile once I saw that he noticed it.

"I'm feeling great," I shrugged. "Second trimester is easy. I was just thinking about names."

"Hmm," he nodded, sitting next to me on the couch. "That's always a fun game to play, but we won't know what we're having till we deliver."

"That was with Laura," I said. "We can find out in 3 weeks and I want to know what the baby is this time."

He nodded thoughtfully. We had always agreed when we had children that we wanted to be surprised, it would stop us from gendering our nursery with too much pink or blue and it's just a nice surprise, but lately I found myself wondering about it so much more.

"It would be easier to shop for clothes, and decorate the nursery and I know we don't want to put too much of one color, but it would be nice. I can't tell you how hard it was finding cute things for the nursery or clothing wise and not being able to get it because you don't know what you're having," I explained.

"Trust me, I understand," he laughed. "I was in the same boat."

"Right…" I chuckled.

It was a comfortable silence for a few seconds before Luke turned to me.

"So, what are your bets?" Luke asked. "Boy or girl?"

I looked at him thoughtfully. I hadn't really thought too much about what I wanted. I figured I would be fine with whatever it was, but as I thought about Laura and how sweet she was, I couldn't help but favor having another girl.

"Girl," I said.

"I would love to have another boy," Luke said. "I love Laura, but I think it's a lot harder to raise a girl as men."

I shrugged.

"She's so sweet though, and I can't help but imagine having a boy that was similar to Evan or myself…we would surely be in for a handful," I said.

"Noah isn't that bad," Luke said. "He's a sweet boy and he's not too hard to take care of."

"Noah is sweet. I wouldn't really mind if it was a boy or a girl," I shrugged after a few seconds.

Luke was looking at my bump, which at 4 months pregnant, was just starting to really protrude. I already knew what he wanted.

"Go ahead," I rolled my eyes.

He smiled, lifting my shirt and resting his hand on the bump, poking it as if he had never seen a pregnant belly before.

"Hey there little baby, whatever you are know that Daddy loves you and he can't wait to meet you," Luke was talking to my stomach.

I didn't want to admit it, but it was kind of cute.

"You're so beautiful," Luke said, barely above a whisper.

"What?" I asked hesitantly.

"You," he glanced at me. "I forgot how great you look with a bump. I just want to say how I can't wait for this baby to get here and I can't wait to prove to you that I'm here to stay this time. This is our second child together and I want everything to be perfect. That means I'm going to take care of you and do everything I can until you realize that I would do anything for you."

At this point he was staring so intensely into my eyes, making sure that I was soaking in every word he said. I looked into those sea blue eyes, realizing that he really was going to be here for me; I saw sincerity and a ting of regret for his past mistakes. Maybe he really had changed and as I glanced over his serious face, I couldn't help but be so intrigued by him…as if I was crushing on him all over again.

I stared from his eyes down to his nose, and down to those lips that I had kissed so many times and before I knew it, my lips were on his. The kiss started slow and innocent, but I felt that same spark that I had NEVER felt with anyone else. It was only a few seconds before Luke's tongue found his way to mine and we were having a full make out session on the couch.

A small moan escaped his lips and as we kissed, everything was coming back to me; all of the pain that he put me through in college, the cheating, the fighting, the uncertainty that he would come home and I remember how I spent 4 years without him in my life and suddenly, I remembered why I was so against being with him again in the first place and I pushed him off of me, both of us breathing heavy from not really getting air.

"Ethan…" he started.

"Get out," I said simply.

"Ethan I-"

"I know, I just need to think."

"You kissed me," he reminded me.

"I know!" I snapped. "Just…I'm not mad just confused, can you please just give me a few hours."

He sighed deeply before standing.

"I know you're afraid Ethan, but we can't keep doing this to each other," he said. "We're bringing another kid into the world and we need to define ourselves. If we're going to be together then I'm down for it, and if we're just going to co-parent and be apart I'm fine with that too, but you're leading me on."

I didn't say anything else, and with that, he left the apartment. I grabbed the nearest pillow and screamed into it for probably a minute or two.

Why was my life so complicated?

So, I realized that I hadn't done Kendall's POV or really James for that matter in close to 30 chapters and I do want to still focus on the Diamond's so there was a little snippet for you at the beginning.

Question: Will Ethan and Luke ever stop playing games and be together? What gender will the baby be?
