Okay so hey guys, I got possible good news. This is the second to last chapter of this story OMG. I hope you enjoyed this story so far. R&R
Percy's POV
Okay, I'm going to admit it. I got fired. It's actually a pretty funny story. You see what had happened is that I punched a monster which my boss, of course, thought was a mortal. So yeah, if you want to keep your job, don't ever punch a monster in front of your boss, the odds are that you'll get fired. Trust me, I should know. But anyway, here I am in my room…jobless…bored out of my mind…Sigh…Okay, fuck it, I'm going with Annabeth. I stood up from my bed, grabbed my keys, left the apartment building and went to my car. I got in, turned it on, and started driving to Annabeth's apartment. I parked and got out. I climbed the stairs to the second floor and knocked on Annabeth's door.
The door opened slightly and Annabeth poked her head out. Her eyes were red and puffy and so was her face. I noticed little trails that went from her eyes down her cheeks and I knew she had been crying. I frowned. What happened? Shouldn't she have IM'd me or something?
"Wise-"
"What do you want?" She asked.
That tone she gave me I knew all too well. It was the tone she used whenever she was seriously pissed off at someone and didn't want to talk with them for years to come. I tried to put my hand on her face but she backed away and scowled at me.
"Wise girl, what's wrong?"
"You know what's wrong." She scowled and closed the door on my face.
I knocked again and Annabeth's only response was telling me to go away. I sighed and took the apartment key out of my pocket. (Remember I said she gave it to me in case of an emergency.) I stuck it in the key hole and turned it. I turned the door knob and opened the door and walked in. Annabeth was sitting on the couch with her knees to her chest and her head on her knees. She lifted her head and looked at me.
"Get out!"
"Wise girl, come on tell me what's wrong."
She glared at me at me and I had a sudden want to back out and go back home and let her cool off. Pfft, what type of boyfriend would I be if I did such a thing? Instead, I closed the door and stood my ground.
"I'm not leaving until you tell me."
"Fine, you want to know what's 'wrong'?" She growled. "What's 'wrong' Jackson, is that I trusted you."
So this is about me? What did I do this time?
"Tell me what I did wise girl, I'll try to fix it."
"It's not fixable," she stood up and walked towards me.
I waited for her to continue but she didn't, so instead I asked, "Tell me what I did."
"Like you don't know."
"I don't."
"Fine, you're really going to play this game?"
"Apparently."
She put a finger on my chest. "You" poke "good" poke "for" poke "nothing" poke "lying" poke "scum" poke "bag" poke "chea-" poke "ted."
I raised an eyebrow and looked down at her. "Cheated on what?"
"Me!"
Woah, woah, woah, slow down there. I did what now? I never cheated on her. Last I checked I was pretty faithful and truthful to her, was I not? What the hell did I do to 'cheat' on her?
"I did what now?"
"Don't play dumb."
"Well my brain is made of seaweed."
She only glared at me.
"Percy, just get out."
"No, I want you to tell me how I cheated cause last I checked, I've been pretty truthful and faithful to you, wise girl," I said. "I love you and I don't know how you could possibly think that I would cheat on you. There are many reasons why I wouldn't cheat on you wise girl and I'll list them down if you want."
She didn't look convinced, she only looked pissed. She stepped away from me and stormed off into the mini hallway. I waited and in a minute I heard the slam of a door. Annabeth came back out with a laptop in her hands. It didn't belong to her, it belonged to John. I should've known. He was always trying to find the best way to get Annabeth to break up with me. Apparently, he found it. She forced me to sit down on the kitchen table and put the laptop in front of me. The screen was dark until she hit the play button. So this was all because of a stupid video.
And this video is one that I never knew someone took. It was of the time that Lacy Hemphill kissed me. I didn't kiss her back but that's not what this video showed. This video showed Lacy walking towards me, making me turn around and kissing me. Then 'I' put 'my' hands on her waist and kissed her back. My jaw hit the floor. Who the hell edited this…no wait, that's a stupid question even for me. John and Athena, who else? I looked at Annabeth. Her eyes were filled with anger but there was a lot of hurt in them too. I stood up and hugged her although she tried to push me off.
"Aren't you the one who told me not to believe everything on the internet?"
"John showed me this, why would he lie?"
"Have you not seen what he's been trying to do?" I asked. "Your mother and siblings don't like me, of course they're going to come up with something like this."
"Prove to me that this isn't real Percy, because it looks so goddam real."
"Which of my friend's do you trust the most?"
"Lola."
I grabbed her phone, which was on a corner of the table, and dialed Lola's number. After a couple of minutes of arguing and explaining, she told me that she was on her way. Annabeth went to sit in the living room and I followed her but I stayed by the fireplace. I didn't want to piss her off more than she already was. We were in the 5th of December and I didn't need her angry at me. We had planned to go to camp for early winter break next week and I really didn't need her angry at me. I can't believe she would think that I would ever hurt her in anyway.
Finally, after what felt like hours, there was a knock on the door. I walked to it and opened it. Lola gave me and quick hug and she walked in. She readjusted the laptop bag strap on her shoulder and walked to Annabeth. She sat beside Annabeth and sent me a glare that said, 'go in the kitchen'. And so I did but I could still hear them.
"So a little idiot told me that you said that he cheated on you."
"Pretty much."
"Where' s the proof?" Lola asked.
I grabbed the computer and gave it to her. Through the little kitchen window (facing the living room) I watched as Lola watched the video with a raised eyebrow. She turned to look at Annabeth with a look that said 'wow'.
"Who edited this?" She asked. "It's so realistic that I almost believed it."
Annabeth looked at her with confused eyes. Lola sighed and took her laptop out. There were like four other laptops in there. They were macs and the bag was a PC laptop bag so you could fit like five macs in there. Lola took out all five and turned them on. On each screen she pulled up a video. In all the videos I was rejecting Lacy. I pushed her away and said that the video better not go viral.
"How am I so sure that this isn't the video that's edited?"
"Because I know Percy well, maybe not as much as you, and I was there when it happened." Lola said, "Annabeth, Percy loves you like you have no idea, if it was your brother and your mom the ones who edited the video, then don't let them come in between."
Lola gave Annabeth a quick hug and packed the laptops. (BTW: The laptops are not all hers, some of them belong to her friends.) She walked to the door and turned to look at her again.
"If you still don't believe me, then ask John yourself. Make him tell you the truth one way or another." Then Lola turned to me. "Fix it."
And she left.
LINE BREAK
No one's pov
John walked into his sister's apartment to find her seated on the loveseat and Percy on a chair in front of her. Annabeth didn't look happy and she was looking at John, not at Percy. John knew that when his sister looked at him like she was, he better write his will while he runs for his life. She stood up without breaking eye contact with him. She grabbed his arm and pulled him into the kitchen. On the kitchen table there were two laptops. Hers and his. His laptop had the video he had showed her and her laptop had the original video. John gulped and hoped Annabeth didn't notice.
She pressed play on the video he edited and he watched it and then she pressed play on the original and he still watched. When it was over, Annabeth crossed her arms and looked at him as if waiting for a comment. What was he supposed to say? Blame it on Percy? No, he doesn't even know what videoshop is much less how to do it. He was in deep trouble. That's all John knew.
"Am I supposed to tell you that one of Percy's friend videoshopped it?" John asked, "Or did you figure that out."
"I want you to tell me which one is the real one." She growled.
"…The one I showed you is the real one."
"Oh, really?" She asked. "Then how come every single person I asked said that the one you showed me was fake?"
"Who did you ask?"
"Percy's friends, guys from school who hate him, girls who like him, and oh, I don't know, Lacy herself."
"And you trusted them? For all you know they could have lied."
"Why would the guys who hate Percy lie about this? To make him look good in front of me?"
John couldn't think of anything to say.
"And the girls who have a crush on him, John, why would they lie? Wouldn't they rather lie to me for me to break up with him and leave him available for them?"
Again, John couldn't response.
"Why would you lie to me?" Her voice cracked.
John looked away from her and murmured, "Because I'm trying to protect you."
"Protect me? Protect me from what?" for some reason her eyes got teary, "Percy does all that. He would use himself as a human shield rather than let anything touch me."
"I'm trying to protect you from him."
Annabeth took a step back. She balled her fist and looked at him furiously.
"You're trying to protect me from one of the best things that's ever happened to me?" Tears started running down her eyes. "Gods damn it John, what else is going to be ruined in my life? I already lost Luke, I lost siblings in the war, I'm losing everything slowly John, and the only thing that seems to be unlosable is Percy."
"Anna-"
"For the first time in years I feel happier than I've ever felt when I'm with Percy." She took a moment to get her emotions under control. "Why can't you just accept the fact that I love him?"
"Annabeth, I'm sorry but-"
"Just leave me alone, please." And she walked out the kitchen and to her room.
Percy just stayed in his spot on the chair. He watched as Annabeth walked to her room and slammed the door shut. He stood up and grabbed Johns arm before he could get to Annabeth's door. Johns head snapped to look at Percy and tried to snatch his arm away. Percy shook his head and led him out the apartment.
"Let her cool down." He said. "There are times when you need to go after her but others where you just need to leave her alone, trust me, I learned that the hard way once."
Percy started walking down the stairs and John followed him.
"What? Aren't you pissed at me?"
Percy shrugged. "Yes, I am but Annabeth did enough to you."
Percy walked to his car and unlocked the car doors and opened the driver's door. He looked at John as if saying, 'why aren't you opening the door?'
"Let's go."
John got the hint and got in the car. Percy drove in silence, only talking when John talked to him or asked him something. Percy was going to do whatever it took in order to get Athena and her kids to accept her. He wasn't going to allow anything to break him and Annabeth. He loved her so much that there was no such thing in the universe that could explain the love he had for her.
Percy stopped at The Empire State Building and got out. He walked to the doors and John followed him. Percy asked the door man for the key and thanked him when he gave it to him. He walked into the elevator and waited for John to walk in with him. He slid the card into the card slot and the 200 button appeared. Percy pressed it and the elevator shot up. When the elevator doors dinged opened they stepped out and Percy walked around Olympus, looking for Athena. Finally, he found her.
"Lady Athena." Percy said as he vowed quickly.
Athena turned around to face them. "Perseus," she smiled at John. "John."
John vowed, "mother."
"What brings you two here?"
"Lady Athena, I need to ask you, why do you not approve of my relationship with Annabeth?"
Athena started explaining to him that the reason was because he was Poseidon's son and his kids cannot be trusted. She said that he was also a danger to her. Even though after the war Athena told him that she might have been wrong about Perseus, she couldn't really trust him with her daughter.
"I came to make you and John a promise."
Athena raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
"I swear on the River Styx, on my life, and everything that is precious to me that so long as Annabeth is under my watch, so long as I am around her, so long as I am capable, I will protect Annabeth with my life. If I have to die to protect her, so be it. I will not let anything hurt her."
"Perseus, do you realize the value and the price that comes with this promise?"
"I do and I am ready to take the consequences."
"So be it. Perseus Jackson, I, Athena, goddess of war and battle strategy, of wisdom and arts-and-craft, accept your promise."
The thunder that usually came after a promise on the river Styx came as soon as Athena ended her statement. Athena looked at John and so did Percy.
"I hate you Percy, but I don't hate you enough-"
"Do you accept my promise or not?"
John hesitated but said. "Perseus Jackson, I, John Able, son of Athena and brother to Annabeth Chase, accept your promise."
The thunder was heard again and the deal was sealed
