WASN'T LOVE, LOVE.
Chapter 45: Memories.
Killian wasn't happy with the idea of Emma taking the night shift, mainly because after the fear of losing Ruth and Henry he wanted his family together. But work was work and he understood it. He had worked on a ship various lifetimes after all.
So Mary Margaret called off the girls' night out and they decided to bathe Ruth together -she was covered in dust, mud and debris.
The little girl was completely exhausted, so much that she let the adults fuzz about her making sure she was whole and fine, after the bath Mary Margaret was the one that dried and combed her dark curls while he prepared Ruth meal. The lass didn't want to, but they made her eat something and carried her to the spare bedroom upstairs so she could rest without them bothering her with the tv. The teacher kept her company and he walked downstairs to clean the mess they had made in the bathroom -bathing Ruth was always so messy. Once the mess cleaned he sat sprawled on the couch.
"Finally, she's sleeping like a little angel" Mary said falling down next to him and embracing a pillow.
"Thanks for helping today." He laughed tired. "Thanks for letting us live there."
His mother-in-low smiled kindly at him, and with a little nod she held his hand. "It feels right to have you all living here." Killian noticed how her smile faltered and her lower lip began to tremble in the same way Emma's did when she was about to cry. "It feels nice to be part of something, to have a family."
She gave him a tight smile, a tear sliding down from the corner of her eye. Her hand tightened around his and Killian pulled her into a hug, his arms going around her waist without any pressure, telling her silently that she could push him away if she wanted to. His mother-in-low shuddered and began to cry, her arms hugging his chest. "Lass we are there; soon Henry will be there too. You're not alone any more. You're part of the family now as long as you want to." Or as long as she didn't remember she was royalty and he just a pirate and pushed him from Emma's side.
The woman responded embracing him further, sinking into his embrace. "I know." She shook her head. "I just wanted -I don't know- I just hoped that someone..."
Mother and daughter were very alike in some things. "David will be part of this soon."
Mary released him, smiling sheepishly and weeping away her tears. "I'm so obvious?"
He pushed himself up from the couch a small smile playing in his lips. "Love is always obvious, and you two love each other." He felt good when she smiled, somehow he had begun to care about Mary Margaret. He wanted to see her happy.
"He loves me?" He nodded. "Because sometimes I think that we have this connection, but maybe it's because I happen to be the person who saved his life?"
Stubborn women, it should run in the family. "Love is not just gratitude; love is far bigger than that. But trust me, he loves you, and you love him."
"He's married."
"To the wrong woman, I assure you that the marriage means nothing if there's no love." He took her hand and kissed her knuckles. "You will see he will come around. Now I will cook something frugal, nothing fancy and then we will all rest." He marched to the kitchen. "Now you wait here and dry your tears."
She just needed a bit of hope and patience. Killian opened the fridge door and glanced back at Emma's mother; she was smiling -good- and weeping her tears away.
He placed some vegetables and meat on the counter. He had to make sure that Emma ate too, he decided to call Ruby to order something for Emma, just as he was reaching for his phone someone knocked on the door. He frowned wondering who could be so late.
"David!" Mary's surprised voice called.
"Mary Margaret!"
Killian turned around, he had completely forgotten about him. "I'm sorry mate." He approached to the pair, trying not to laugh at the way they looked at each other. "The lady is staying tonight; I should have called off our meeting." He cut David off gesturing him to join the cooking area. "Emma's at the station and Mary was going to make sure Ruby delivers her a healthy meal. I'm cooking. Mind to help?"
David looked nervous to Mary Margaret, asking silently for her permission. "Ah! Sure."
At the same time the teacher closed the apartment door. "Uh! Phone Ruby yes."
Killian smirked as David stood next to him, his eyes glued to the pixie haired woman. "Today I remembered Killian. I was going to leave her -I mean Katherine- I wanted to tell Mary Margaret at the troll bridge and Regina tried to talk me into not giving up my wife..." He whispered. Killian froze, the knife falling from his only hand, he remembered? "She gave me directions and I entered in the pawn shop and puff I remembered." A bead of sweat began its journey down his temple. "I remember marrying Katherine, the dog, the house, well everything."
He released a breath he hadn't known he was holding. "What are you going to do mate?"
David picked up the fallen knife, glancing one last time to Mary Margaret who disappeared in the upper story. "Today I moved out." Killian passed him the meat he had been cutting earlier.
"Okay mate, you're making no sense." Killian said folding his arms over his chest.
"I decided to leave Kathryn, I remembered that once upon a time I married her because I thought I loved her, we weren't at a good place when I left. I wanted to work things out; I had plenty of time to thing over it." Killian frowned, it seemed that the crocodile had put into the prince's mind the memories needed for him to leave Mary Margaret behind. It was going to break her heart. Bloody hell! He had been the one encouraging her into that love affair. "I've seen how a real marriage is, you and Emma are a life prove of it." Killian breathed out a hum resting his elbow on the counter. "Katherine and I never loved each other, not like you love and respect Emma. Not like I love Mary Margaret."
"I'm glad you noticed." Things weren't as screwed as he had thought.
"So I talked with Katherine. I made the things clear, our marriage was a loss, and I've found my happiness in Mary Margaret. We will go to the layer tomorrow, I want to divorce a.s.a.p."
Killian picked some things from the fridge smiling with relieve. "Was she okay?"
"Yes, Katherine understood it, the marriage was over years ago before I went missing. I can't give her a second change when my heart is of someone else."
A mischievous smirk appeared in his features, their plan was working. "When do you plan to tell Mary?"
The tall blonde blushed. "I'm not going to wait until divorce... I wanted to tell her in a picnic- I really wanted to tell her at the toll bridge but with the mines collapsing she never appeared."
"It was a thought day for everyone. After eating those I will leave you two alone, I will go upstairs with Ruth, and Emma isn't coming tonight so you will have her all for you mate."
He blushed more, his face redder than the tomato sauce he was putting on the ravioli. "Thanks, you're a good friend Killian."
He struggled. "You said you're moving out. Where are you going to-"
"I've moved my things to my truck. I don't want to spend a single night more over there." He held his hand up. "I'm not wearing the ring anymore."
"Fine, then you can take the couch." He winked at David who grinned back.
"Can I help you boys?" They turned around, Mary Margaret had changed clothes and was wearing a flowing pink dress and a white wool jacket. Her makeup back in place. The prince stared at her, his mouth hanging open.
Killian turned around to hide his grin, lovebirds.

The styrofoam cup was empty in the container, next to the rests of the meal Killian and Mary Margaret had made sure she got from Ruby. Despite her belly being full Emma hated working at night, driving the deserted streets in the most peaceful little town in Maine could be boring to death. She wondered if Graham couldn't just feed the damn animals and then made his shift. She should be at home snuggled against Killian. She pulled right, driving past the Mayor's enormous white house. Something caught her attention; a figure was leaving one of the windows. It was too tall to be Henry so she pulled over and got out of the car. She waited holding the knight stick in her right hand, it wasn't the first time she ambushed someone -just this once her husband wasn't there- the figure straightened and she hit him with the stick. Damn she hadn't made enough force, the person turned around and her arm frozen in midair, it was Graham.
"This is volunteering?" This was the creepiest definition of feeding animals ever.
"Plans changed. Regina needed me to-"
"Sleep with her?" No way, she was making his shift for the pair to have making up sex after their fight earlier.
"No."
"Then… Why were you sneaking out the window?" If she hadn't been so tired she would had rolled her eyes, or punched him.
"Because… She didn't want Henry to know."
No, she couldn't want the kid to have a paternal figure in his life, she was too selfish to share the kid. Then she realized something. "You did this with Henry in the house?"
"He's sleeping. He doesn't know."
"Oh my god, I wish I was Henry right now. This is disgusting." He nearly kissed her that morning! And he already knew about the meeting with the mayor.
"I really do work at an animal shelter."
"You can finish my shift. I'm done working nights." She wanted to take a shower, get rid of all the dust from the mine, kiss her daughter and lie in her husband arms. That's what nights were for. So she threw Graham the keys to the car and leaved.
Emma walked fast towards Mary apartment, she was far from pissed. Poor Henry, she wondered for how long Regina had been sneaking men into the house. She knew how disgusting it could be for a kid, she had grown up in foster homes with very thin walks.
She opened the door trying not to make any sound. She threw her jacket and deputy belt into the couch and headed to their room, her hand halting on the curtain.
"Again?" Mary Margaret's playful voice reached her ears followed by a yelp turned moan, not any moan, a sex moan.
There was a woman she trusted inside her bed with her husband. Her knees gave out, but the pair didn't notice as the giggles filed the air. Emma felt like drowning, like throwing up.
She couldn't understand it, where was Ruth? Was she there or upstairs?
She couldn't understand it but she was going to face it. She got up and jerked open the curtain, a blonde man was showering a naked Mary Margaret with open-mouthed kisses, the sheet covering them from waist down.
"What the-"
David glanced back, shock written all over his face as he desperately tried to cover them both.
"Emma!"
Mary opened her eyes. "Oh my God Emma!" She helped David with the covering issue. "This is not... We need to talk sweetheart." She said panting.
"I just wanna know where Killian and Ruth are."
David growled rolling off Mary Margaret. "Upstairs."
"Good." Emma hurried upstairs wondering why Mary and David where downstairs.
Slowly she opened the first door, Ruth was sleeping there, one arm tight around her dragon plush, the rest of her limps sprawled wide. She kissed her and covered her small body with the covers.
Behind the second door she found him. "Killian?" She turned on the light.
Killian was sprawled on the bed wearing nothing but a pair of old sweatpants. He covered his eyes. "What the hell!"
"You won't believe it." She sat on the bed.
"Enlight me lass." He took a glance at her watch. "The night shift?"
"I found out Graham wanted me to do the night shift to bed the Mayor." She took of her boots and clothes.
"That's bloody gruesome."
"I told him to end his shift." She pulled on Killian's t-shirt smoothing it over her body.
"You found them at the station?" He was propelled upright on his elbows, making a funny face.
"No! I caught him sneaking out of the house thought a window." She lowered next to him. "And I came home to find Mary Margaret and David in our bed."
Killian covered them. "Aye. He moved with us. He remembered and decided he wanted Mary Margaret."
"You can swear it budy." Emma snuggled closer to him smiling when he stretched over her to turn off the lights. "For a second I thought it was you." A low rumble made his chest vibrate.
"You've a vivid imagination lass, I could never betray you with Mary Margaret! She's your mother."
"So Henry told you." He nodded into her hair.

The cold sea breeze blew Emma's hair, ticking him, just over his nostrils. He opened an eye to found a very amused Emma giggling, a loose stand of golden hair in her hand. He growled embracing her and rolling until she was under him. "It's not wise to taunt." She squirmed under him smiling. "I'm gonna be late at work my beautiful queen." His hand found the hem of his t-shirt and he let his fingers trace the curve of her tight.
"We can't go down, because a pair of friends -you know- is being quite noisy." Her hands rested on his chest, one perfect finger curling around the dark hair that grow there. "Your clothes are down my handsome king." One of her beautiful hands moved slowly until it was tangled in his hair. "Ruth is in the other room."
He chucked kissing her nose. "Maybe someone is-"
Emma captured his lips in a heated kiss, and oh gods, he was more than happy to find out that she was just wearing his t-shirt.

Killian peered down wondering if David and Mary Margaret were done. No sound cane from below so he walked to the kitchen to prepare the breakfast. His Emma was famished.
"You should wear a shirt buddy."
Killian turned around smiling at David. "Good morning to you too mate." The blonde was still flustered, his hair poking up weirdly.
"Who's Milah in the tattoo." He asked as if the fact that we had a tattoo was horrible.
"I thought you would be in a better mood." His first reaction was covering it, he wasn't wearing anything so he placed over it a kitchen towel.
"I'm in a great mood mate." David mooked his voice and approached the counter slamming his open palm on it. "You would notice if I wasn't- so who's-"
Mary Margaret appeared then wearing one of Emma's pajamas and robe. "David!" She admonished placing a calming hand on his shoulder. "We talked about it." Killian looked around confused, it really wasn't so horrible to walk around without a shirt. Mary Margaret had never seen him before.
"Morning." Emma descended the stairs, wearing just his t-shirt and carrying Ruth down. "You're done, I was afraid I had to go out with one of your dresses Mary Margaret."
Killian turned around, as the eggs began to fuss, poking them with the spatula scrambling the eggs in the process.
"Emma!" Killan turned around frowning. "Ruth!"
"Mary -Mary Margaret what happens?" Emma and Ruth were both engulfed into a bear hug, his little princess had returned it hooking her arms around Mary's neck, but Emma was pleading at him with her eyes.
Killian gulped when David embraced the three lasses. They both remembered. That's why David wasn't acting like his friend any more. He was right, he was about to be thrown from there.
"You are so beautiful Emma!" Mary Margaret yelped. "You're an angel Ruth."
"Okay this is getting creepy." Emma wiggled away from them taking Ruth with her. She placed the lass in a stool. "Papa will breakfast with you baby."
Killian gulped as Emma disappeared behind the curtain.
"Can we talk Killian." Snow said kindly, her voice too sweet.
He sighed, his fate was sealed. They wanted him out. Out of the apartment and Emma's life. "Aye." He placed a plate with some scrambled eggs and a peeled and cut apple on Ruth's plate. "Drink your milk too darling." He kissed the top of his little treasure head, running his hand through her dark curls. "Papa loves you."
"What's wrong Papa?"
He kissed their princess again hugging her briefly. "Promise you will never forget it Ruth."
"You're scaring her." David's hand clasped over his shoulder.
Snow gestured him to follow her. He narrowed his eyes and gave her a nod. And he did, he followed her to his bloody downfall. What was he going to do? Would he be able to keep breathing, because he couldn't hurt Emma, he couldn't just kidnap his lassies and forget about the cursed town, it would hurt his Emma, his wife, his love, his true love. He looked up tearing his eyes from his fingers, Mary Margaret was standing in front of him, her arms crossed over her chest, she was observing, no, she was scrutinizing him. He could hear Emma's voice downstairs, and in a couple of minutes David was inside the room too, closing the door behind him.
"Killian, Emma once told me you believed in Henry's theories." Snow White the woman who had led an army asked him, in a royal tone so far away from the kind teacher that if some part of him had doubted it, he knew it now. They remembered.
"Aye." He followed the prince with his eyes, his pacing maddening him.
"Who are you?" David stopped in front of him. "Who married our daughter?"
"Killian Jones, Captain of the Jolly Roger." Killian rested his back on the wall.
"A pirate!" David stepped towards him like a tornado stopping at inches from him. "A pirate."
"Aye, what gave me away? Could be the earring? My taste for shiny things?" He made a show moving his fingers in front of his face. "Maybe it was the ship or the hook?" He lowered his hand his false smile disappearing. He felt empty.
Snow nodded with a tight smile. "We already suspected that, you are trying to force Emma to break the curse."
He was tempted, tempted to let go and act like the pirate he had been, the dark part lurking inside his soul wanted nothing else to smirk at them and show them how evil he was. But Killian Jones, Emma's husband couldn't. So he closed his eyes and forced a confident smile. "I wasn't forcing her, but helping." He straightened his back ready to tell them that no matter how much they tried to push him away, he would never leave Emma's side, as long as she wanted him there, he would never leave Ruth, no matter what.
He didn't see it coming; Charming's fist was on his jaw before he could ever process it, the pain rushing up his skull making him see white stars. He cradled his face in his only hand, surprised not to feel broken bones under the skin. "You're not going to use our daughter for your own agenda." With that the other fist of the prince came into game, and despite he tried to avoid it, duking to the left, it caught him again sending him against the wall, his head hitting the brick wall. The world around him blackened.
