Start From the Beginning

The revelation that Claire was in danger crashed over Leon like a wave.

If Claire is in danger what the hell are we doing here? Is she in Budapest

Leon felt a powerful urge to punch something. He was feeling guilt-ridden. This was his fault he thought. If things didn't happen the way they did she would still be here!

He couldn't help but feel history was repeating itself…AGAIN!

Leon clenched his jaw, in haled deeply and then exhaled.

I have to stay calm he told himself. He forced his muscles to relax. He was thankful for all the training he had received which gave him the discipline to remain calm and control his emotions in times like these.

He ran his hands through his chestnut hair before moving his chair forward so he could hear Sonya's every word.

Leon gave Sonya an intense look. "Start from the beginning…"

Sonya sighed. Start from the beginning he said….Where do I even begin?

Normally her demeanor during times like these was more hardened, professional—cold even. She had decades of experience in these kinds of matters with her own agents…but it was always different when it came to her kids even though their occupations and their history of involvement in bio terrorism would put them at risk for situations such as these.

Sonya forced herself back into her usual composure. "I'll brief you on what you need to know."

"I'm sure you've been aware of the increase of bio terrorist activity in the last couple of years or so?"Asked Sonya

Increase? Leon wanted to laugh. Instead he nodded and drew a breath, "I've heard…"

Leon knew the situation was getting worse. Harvardville was the last known public incident that hit home. There were others that the public had not been made aware of and even more that happened over seas. On more than one occasion, the president had voiced his concerns to Leon. But many of those matters he didn't handle directly-those were passed on to the B.S.A.A.

"Terragrigia was one of them… one of the more serious ones anyways" replied Sonya.

"But Chris and Jill killed Jack Norman and the Il Veltro had never been reorganized. Not to mention, the F.B.C was disbanded."

Sonya snickered, "That was a fucking mess…" She took a sip of her cappuccino and started again. "There's also been some activity in West Africa in the Kijuju region, for some reason there have been several bio weapons deals that have been occurring in that area."

West Africa…why does that sound familiar?

Sonya read his look, "If you remember correctly, there was a rumored Umbrella Africa Laboratory there, but the operative was never able to identify its location. The government was just too unstable at the time. Chris is in that region right now."

"That explains why Claire hasn't been able to get a hold of him lately." Said Leon.

Sonya sighed, "Chris has been getting harder to get a hold of. Since Jill's death, he's been taking on more and more assignments. It's been weeks and I still haven't been able to get a hold of him."

"Which is why you contacted me?"

Sonya nodded. She gave him a look, "I have reason to believe Wesker is still alive and he's there in Africa."

Leon raised an eyebrow What? He shook his head. "That fucker needs to die"

"Tell me about it" Sonya muttered. "Maybe Chris will get lucky this time. Anyways…" Sonya continued "Africa wasn't the only laboratory Umbrella was rumored to have. There was one more…but we've never been able to get any reliable information on its location until just a few days ago..."

Leon thought about the guy he stole the backpack from. He knew where this was heading, "Let me guess…China?"

"Makes sense right? That Umbrella would be able to build a laboratory in a country that can rival the U.S. in military power? Not to mention will turn a blind eye when it comes to conducting experiments on its own people… and the biggest reason? NO TAXES! Umbrella probably gave them a discount."

"And we know that this information is correct because…?"

"Trent has never failed in finding incorrect intel."

That's how Trent is involved

"So Trent told you the location?"

Sonya looked at him wearily, "Well…not exactly. He contacted me and told me he knew the location and if we're able to retrieve that information for him he will give it to us at a later time of his choosing."

Leon shook his head, "He's a piece of work."

"Well, remember, the U.S. government was one of the Umbrella's main customers. It was why the anti-umbrella operative had to go underground." Sonya then added, "and since you and I both work for the U.S. government, well…he has some trust issues, that's all."

"So we stole what we needed from him?"

"I see it more like borrowing." said Sonya "I'll give it back to him."

Leon was getting impatient This is good information to know but what does all this have to do with Claire?

Leon nodded, "So all this…all has to do with Claire being in trouble?"

"It's relevant. Although she's not directly involved…she just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time."

Leon rolled his eyes at the comment, "Yeah…she has a knack for that."
