A/N: Okay guys, another chapter done. Sorry for the wait, but... meh. Haven't been in a good mood lately. Thankfully, half of this chapter was done on a good day. The other half... well, as I've said, meh. :)

(Mello P.O.V)
The look she gave me when I set her in the unbreakable glass chamber made my stomach churn a bit. Our conversation, just two days prior, made some of my humanity surface.
I'll confess… I didn't think it would impact me so much.
I had told her I suspected someone in her family to be Kira, but she hadn't believed me.
"That's not possible." She said in Japanese, shaking her head. "My father and brother are working to catch Kira…"
"And how much have they told you about the case?" I had asked.
She paused for a bit. "Not much. But, why would one of them be Kira? My father, my brother, they both have a sense of justice. Just like L did…"
"No, Sayu. Not like L at all. If they really had a sense of justice that was equal to his… Kira would already be gone."
She seemed to sink at this. "Then… why am I here? You said it had something to do with Kira."
"It does. You see, we kidnapped someone before you but Kira killed him to assert his dominance. However, if my theory is correct, you won't end up with the same fate.
"Here's what's happened, out of your knowledge." I began, resting my head on my hand. "L had taken Light Yagami into custody in suspicion that he may be the original Kira. Do you know any of that?"
She shook her head. "No. But, I do remember Light was away for a few months. No one really knew why, except for that it was for school. He came home one day, though. But he left right after, saying it had something to do with helping my father on a side-case."
I nodded at this. "Then I think you should know that L had Light Yagami detained and under surveillance for the duration of those months. This, and aside from L's death, I can determine that he was the only one who was close to L at the time. At least, close enough to kill him."
"Wait, L's death?! That can't be real… I mean, he's out there right now trying…"
"No, Sayu. The true L is dead. Whoever is posing as him was purely another plan made by L to help his successors catch Kira."
"How do you know?"
I looked into her eyes now. "Because I was one of his successors."
Her eyes went wide. "Y-you? No… that has to be a joke!"
I shook my head. "I was second in the Wammy house, behind some egg-head, but L never chose his successor. It was either me or another… but I gave it up.
"However, circumstances being what they are, I decided to start my own investigation." I stood up then. "But we've gone off track here. I was telling you how you're useful to my investigation. Well, it's simple." I began to untie her, feeling I could trust that she wouldn't run off. "Your brother, who I suspect to be Kira, will more than likely keep you alive. You're his sister, any no matter what…" I stopped my hands, thinking about Matt. How many times I'd said this to him. "…Family sticks together."
She seemed to notice my abrupt pause, so I quickly regained my composure. "Sadly, if my hunch is incorrect, you will die. However, that's on a ten percent chance that it will fail. Actually, more like seven percent."
When the bonds came off she rubbed her wrists. "I really don't like to think Light's actually Kira. But… with the way he's been acting…"
I kneeled in front of her. "Sayu, I know you don't want to hear this. But if Light is Kira… if you don't die in two days, then you mustn't say a word about this. I have a plan, but it'll take time to develop and become masterful. I ask that you help me by not speaking, at least until it's all over."
She stared at me for a good three minutes before grinning at me. "You know, for a kidnapper, you're extremely kind hearted."
I rolled my eyes. "So you'll help?"
She nodded. "Not a word will get passed my lips. Besides, either way, I won't be speaking."
I stood. "Like I said before, I'm almost too sure you'll get out of here alive."
Her grin fell a bit. "Still, if Light's really Kira… no. I won't think about it. He couldn't be. I just know it…"
"Sayu, don't be foolish. Don't throw away logic like this. Light Yagami is…"
A loud knocking at my door stopped me from my conversation with Sayu. When I answered the door, I only cracked it open to see who was there. No surprise… it was Ross.
That cheeky grin of his made me want to vomit. "I thought I said not to bother us."
Ross chuckled. "I got worried when things got quiet. Should I be keeping an eye on you two?"
"Go fuck yourself, Rod." I tried to slam the door but he caught it easily.
"Calm down, blondie. I know you two are just chatting." He pushed his way in and instantly made his way to Sayu. "All I want to know is… what have you been saying?"
I got snarky now. "We were gossiping about your late nights with your toys out there. Or rather, how they aren't very late. Poor girls, I pity them some days. Having to constantly serve you."
He chuckled, turning his attention to me now. "That wouldn't be an issue for them if you'd accept my offers."
I rolled my eyes, yet again, at him. "I think I've made my answer clear to you."
Ross scoffed, but still continued. "You know, Mello, sometimes that attitude of yours makes it harder for me to hold back."
He got dangerously close to me now, his meaty hands touching me yet again. I tried to back away, but that resulted in me getting pinned to my desk. This was where charm and wit would have to be my weapon.
I gave in just a bit and guided his hands to my hips. "Ross, you know what they say about waiting…"
"Have I not waited long enough?" He asked, getting closer.
This was probably the closest he'd gotten to me. I guess most of it was my fault. Bringing Sayu into my room, a privilege no one had, and then demanding to be left alone… I was asking for this to happen.
I swallowed a bit of rising vomit. "But Ross, in front of a hostage. Really, have some dignity."
I think this was the breaking point for Rod Ross.
He grabbed my hand forcefully and held them against my desk, his face closer to mine than it ever had been. I could just smell the alcohol on his breath. Cheap and heavy, mixed with mint or something. I instantly hated the smell.
His eyes grew serious. "I'm tired of waiting, Mello. And you denying me every single time puts you in a more dangerous situation each time. Now, if I don't see you in my room tonight…"
"Then starve." I said hazardously. "Because I will not be forced into this. So fuck off."
His eyes narrowed, but he let me go. He'd stormed out of my room then, slamming the door. I swear, I almost fainted from the fear then. Not once had Ross treated me like that, nor had he been so forceful. Thankfully, I knew I could handle myself.
Sayu suddenly spoke up. "What was that about?"
I only took a breath and replied, "Rod Ross just wants what he can't have. It's beginning to get annoying, but I kinda have to endure it."
"Why? I mean, why don't you just leave? No one should go through something like that."
"Well, I can't just leave. It's not exactly an option."
"Who says?"
"I… I just…" but I couldn't speak. She was correct. No one was holding me hostage here… so why didn't I leave?
I honestly thought I was running the show, but I wasn't. I had killed my own father for them… to be part of them. Hell, the only thing that was stopping me from screwing around with Ross was my better judgement, and even that was dying slowly inside of me.
"Mello," she said, bringing me out from my thoughts, "you don't have to stay. Come with me, and you can help my father to catch Kira! Help my brother, or help the new L! You don't have to stay!"
"Sayu," I said quietly. "I would love to leave this place. But there's only one way to get out, and that's death. Besides, your father wouldn't want his daughter's kidnapper to work for him. Hell, I'm almost too sure he'd shoot me on sight." I then sat on my bed right beside her. "Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. Ross is just throwing a hissy fit, and once we get the notebook he'll simmer down."
"But, what about him… you know…"
I shrugged. "I've been pushing my luck around here for a while. So, I guess when the time comes…"
"Mello, don't you dare let him near you!" She interrupted. "Promise me that, and I'll promise to keep my mouth shut until Kira is dead."
Looking at her eyes, and how much determination was there. I realized just how far I had fallen into darkness. How far I was willing to go to prove myself and to others.
I took another look at her eyes now. The ones in the bullet proof case. The ones from just a few nights ago. I couldn't hear her, but she could hear me perfectly.
"I promise, Sayu."
She grinned at me then. But it fell when I only turned away.
For those of you who were wondering what she was screaming at her father for when he had come to get her… she was begging him to take me with her. I couldn't believe it when I'd heard it, but unfortunately, Y462 had shot at the glass to shut her up.
I got angry at him for that, but knowing he would be dead soon only ceased my anger a bit. And besides… she was safe with her father now. Light Yagami was most definitely Kira.
Now the fun could begin.
