A/N: Today, the day I'm uploading this story, September 12, is National Video Games Day! Let's all celebrate by playing our favorite video games! I personally will be playing the new Phoenix Wright.

School sucks man, but at least I'm not sitting around doing nothing like a bum anymore. I honestly have no idea where to take this story after this chapter. Well, actually, I have a few ideas, but I wanna do some other stuff before I start on my next big arc, because it is a really big idea. Any ideas guys? PM me if you do!

To the chapter!

Chapter 53: Smashin' A Heart Finale

Phosphora, her confidence restored, stormed (haha get it?) right back into the cave, determined to tell Pit upfront about her. She could spare no time keeping up with this stupid "hard-to-get" act any longer.

She had barely taken a few steps when she found herself in complete darkness.

"Wait a minute… I'm literally the embodiment of lightning." She drew a breath and surrounded herself in blue lightning, which lit up the area around her quite nicely.

Now that she could actually see in the cave, she noticed how spacious it was. The high ceiling of the cave was lined with the same gritty volcanic rock that was littered all over the floor. "Wait… Volcanic rock? Strange…"

She kept walking and eventually came to a split in the cave. She shot a lightning bolt into the left side to try to see what was within without walking all the way there. The bolt flew down the hall without interruption until it was merely a blue dot that was infinitely small away. Next, she shot a bolt into the other side. It went along like the first one for about twenty feet, when it suddenly, and without warning, disappeared. Phosphora didn't see anything stop it. It was almost as if some invisible barrier had stopped it.

"Hmm…" She started walking up the right path, and when she got to the spot where the lightning disappeared, she noticed something peculiar. Her blue lightning lit up everything behind her, but right at the spot where the bolt disappeared, it turned to complete darkness.

"That's strange…" She stuck her hand in the dark void, as any sane person would do, and found that her arm completely appeared to disappear in the darkness.

"WHOA! This isn't your everyday darkness… This is… advanced darkness." Phosphora said. "Well, into the void I go."

She stepped into the void, but not before seeing an angel-shaped shadow on the wall created by her blue lightning. Before she had time to react, though, she was completely enveloped by the darkness.

Zelda was walking down the street at a brisk pace, thinking things over in her head. "Lucina was right… I may have missed my chance to open up to Link. That wasn't very smart of me, and I have the Triforce of wisdom! Argh…"

As she walked, a group of girls who looked like they had just finished shopping at the mall were walking in front of her. At least three bags, all filled with clothes, were in each hand. The mall now closed, they had nothing to do, and as such they were taking their sweet time walking home, much to Zelda's despair.

"Oh, Marth is so cute! Why won't he notice me?" The one with the blonde hair said.

The brunette looked at the blonde one in disgust. "Marth? That prissy? Ike's obviously the hottest one! Do you see his muscles? That's a man! Besides, Marth is already married! You can't date an already married man!"

"Oh yeah… Darn it."

The last girl, a redhead, laughed. "Sure, Marth is pretty, and Ike is jacked, but let me tell you, Link is the biggest hunk of them all!"

"Well, if that's true, then why isn't he dating anyone? Obviously nobody wants to ask him out."

"Oh, trust me, that's not true." She said, to the dismay of Zelda. "And besides… word on the street is that Link has started dating again!"

Zelda's ears perked up when she heard this and she started following at a closer distance to try to hear them better.

"Why do you sound so sad?" One of the girls asked. "Now's your chance to ask him out!"

"I would… But the way we found out he was dating again was from the fact that he already has a date! In fact, he's on it right now! And with that new smasher chick, no less!"

Zelda gasped.

"No way!" The blonde girl said. "How'd you even find out?"

"Word travels fast. They're at the Outta' Time restaurant right now."

And just like that, Zelda was making her way to the Outta' Time restaurant, her head spinning as much as Bowser did during his up-B.

...

Yknow, considering being enveloped by darkness is usually considered a bad thing, Phosphora didn't find it too bad. Sure, she couldn't see a thing, and it seems like going backwards didn't lead her back, but it was quiet. So that's nice.

After walking around for what seemed like forever, she suddenly felt something grab her hand.

"Who's there?"

"Hey, it's only me." Phosphora looked ahead and could barely make out the slightly less dark outline of Pit from the slightly more dark area surrounding her.

"Oh, Pit! I'm so glad I ran into you. I have to tell you something…"

"There's no time to explain! You have to hurry!"

The figure of Pit grabbed Phosphora's hand and started dragging her forward.

"Why do you sound so weird?" Phosphora asked.

"Um… Sore throat."

"Ok… Why are we rushing?"

The figure of Pit sighed. "Bayonetta found a darkness stone, but it's was being guarded by a swarm of demons, and it's chamber surrounded by a barrier that blocks anything holy from coming through. That includes angels."

"Wait, so you're asking me to fight demons? Are you kidding me?"

"We're here. Now, hurry!" The dark figure pushed her forward, and all of a sudden light flooded her eyes again. The light wasn't coming from her, though, but rather from a row of bright green lanterns resting on the wall. At the end of a cave was a feeble looking door, and many noises could be heard from within.

"Well, here goes nothing." Phosphora mumbled as she opened the door.

Phosphora was greeted to a large room big enough to fit about one hundred people. She immediately saw Bayonetta, who was against the corner, shooting frantically at a large group of about thirty feminine demons in scanty clothing.

"Bayonetta! I'm here!" Phosphora yelled.

"That's great, darling! Now, would you mind grabbing the darkness stone on that pedestal over there?" She pointed her head towards the large black marble pedestal that had the stone. It looked like a regular obsidian stone, but it oozed black mist.

"But what about you?" Phosphora asked.

"I'll be fine! When you get the stone all of the demons should disappear. So if you could hurry that'd be splendid."

Phosphora started running to the pedestal, which attracted the attention of a large number of demons. She blasted as she ran, but her blasts weren't enough to stop them completely.

"Argh… If they keep gaining at this pace I'll never make it!" Phosphora grunted. "Unless…" Phosphors blasted the ceiling above her, which caused a few large boulders to fall to the ground, crushing the demons with a resounding hiss.

Phosphors didn't have much time to celebrate her victory, though, because immediately afterwards the darkness stone started giving off a ton more black mist then earlier. The black mist crept up to Phosphora. Waving her hands did nothing to get the mist away from her. It crept up and down her body, and Phosphora could hear whispers coming from the mist. She tried to make them out, but soon found out that they were in a completely different language.

For twenty seconds, the mist swirled around her, and Phosphora just stood there for fear of what would happen if she moved. Then, all the mist rapidly flew away from her and started collecting in a single point in midair. Eventually, all the mist had come together to make a physical silhouette of Bayonetta standing in front of her.

"Hello… Phosphora…" The Bayonetta-shaped figure hissed, in a thousand voices all at once. "It's time to face your inner demon…"

The figure took out guns like Bayonetta's and pointed them at Phosphora. Then, it lunged forward.

...

Outta-Time, the new restaurant run by a "friend" of Bayonetta's. Today was the grand opening, if Zelda had remembered correctly. One had to call weeks in advance to be able to snag a table. How Link got one, Zelda had no clue.

Rounding the corner, she immediately bumped into someone's back.

Zelda was about to mutter out a quick apology when she realized that the person she bumped into was Corrina.

"Oh!" The Dragon-girl (or whatever the heck she is) turned around. "Sorry about that- hey, you're Zelda, right?" She stuck her hand out for Zelda to shake. Zelda took it silently. Corrina was dressed in a sleek black dress tunic with a floral pattern, glittering gray (or grey, if that's your thing) leggings, and a minuscule black top hat that sat on the very top of the her head, unlike most top hats that wrap around the whole head.

"That's, uh… quite an outfit you have there."

Corrina widened her eyes and quickly laughed. "Oh, don't worry! This isn't what I'm gonna wear on the battlefield. I'm only wearing this because…"

"You have a date, right?" Zelda asked, tapping the seam of her pants (yes, pants. Smashers don't wear their battle clothes all the time, as Corrina demonstrated) nervously.

Corrina gasped. "How'd you know?"

"Word gets around." Zelda said, looking around. The line stretched all the way around the corner of the block, and Zelda believed that the line stretched much farther. "So this is the line for Outta' Time?"

"Yeah," Corrina looked down the line. "It's really long. The food's probably exquisite."

"Probably… Hey, you're waiting in line, but where's…"

"My date?" Corrina said, pulling at her shirt nervously. "Pulling some strings. Calling in some favors (or favours, if that's your thing). He has some connections."

Zelda laughed bitterly. "Yeah, I know all about Link's connections."

Corrina tensed up. "Yeah…" She leaned towards Zelda slightly. "You don't mind me dating him, right? I mean, according to him you never showed interest, so I probably don't even have to ask you, but considering you guys are from the same game…"

Zelda was taken aback. Never showed interest? Well, what about the time she… Er, what about that day when she… Oh! What about the incident with the, uh…

"I, uh, I-"

Zelda was interrupted by a tap on her shoulder. "Zelda?"

Zelda turned around and found herself face-to-face with Link. He was dressed in a plain black polo, white dress slacks, a black belt with a glittery golden triforce emblem, and black leather boots. In his hand was a rose.

"What're you doing here?" He asked.

"I- um…"

"She just happened to bump into me. We were just chatting." Corrina said.

"Oh, well that's great! Now I don't have to introduce you two!" Link laughed.

"Thank goodness for that!" Corrina said teasingly. "If you had acted how you were when we first met I don't think I would've been able to take it any more!"

"Well, it's not my fault I thought you were a fake sent by the very essence of evil!" Link snapped back, smirking.

"I think you're just paranoid."

"I'm smart is what I am." Link said. "After all, I was able to get a table at the very top of the restaurants, where we can see all of Smash-City and its beautiful nighttime lights in all of its glory."

Zelda had been trying to keep her composure for when she met Link, but now, seeing him all dressed up, with a rose that was obviously not meant for her… It would've broken her, had she not taken a look at Link at that exact moment.

The way he smiled… She'd only seen him smile like that once. It was the day after he had saved Hyrule from Ganondorf. Zelda and Link had spent the whole day together. They traveled the land, reliving his adventures together. Just the two of them for a whole day… And Zelda was preoccupied for most of it worrying about how to bring Hyrule back to its former glorious self. There was one spot where she stopped and paid attention to him 100%, and that was at the Hyrule garden. They sat on the grass together, and they just talked. She rested her head on his shoulder, and the smile that she saw now came out. Taking a look at Corrina, there were no bags under her eyes. No tension in her shoulders. All her attention is on him, as her's should've been that day. Hyrule could've waited, but she didn't let it.

"I- I think I should be going." Zelda said. "Enjoy your date, you two."

Before either of them could say anything, Zelda walked past them and started heading away from them as fast as she could.

"Hey, is there something wrong with Zelda?" Corrina asked Link.

Link narrowed his eyes. "Uh, stay there, Corrina. I'll be right back." He followed Zelda around the corner, and found her leaning against a store window with her hands in her eyes.

Link walked up to her and pulled her hands out of her eyes. "Hey, Zelda."

The princess looked up tentatively. "Y- you look so happy with Corrina. She actually pays attention to you, which is something I never did… Link…" She felt herself falling right into his arms, and the culmination of all the romantic frustration she felt over the last few years came out through her tears. She cried and she cried, as if in apology to Link.

"Shh… Hey, Zelda. Cheer up. You're making a scene." He said, smiling softly. She pulled away from him slightly and he wiped off her tears with his pocket handkerchief. "You did what you had to do. Hyrule is stronger than it's ever been, and it's all because of you. It's true; I never knew you had any feelings for me because of how focused you were, but trust me, I had feelings for you, once upon a time."

Zelda sniffles a bit and cleared her eyes. "I just wish things had been different between us. I wish I had known how much I had neglected you… That was never my intention."

"I know, Zelda. But what's done is done. I've grown ever since those days of hoping that you would come to me. We've both made mistakes, but hopefully we can learn from this and continue being friends."

Zelda, still in Link's arms, took a deep breath and looked into his eyes. Staring at him, she remembered when it was just him and her, back when things were simple. "...yeah. We should. I'm glad you're dating her, Link, and I hope Corrina can give you the satisfaction and happiness that I failed to give you."

Link smiled, and suddenly he felt something wet hit his cheek. He had just realized that it was raining. He had assumed until now that it was just Zelda's tears. "Here." He reached into his hero's pocket and pulled out a black sweatshirt. "This should keep you warm."

"Wow… You really are something, Link." Zelda chuckled softly as Link pulled the sweatshirt over her head. "Thanks. Have fun on your date." She pecked him on the cheek, squeezed his hand, looked him in the eye one last time, and then turned around and started walking. At the present she failed to acknowledge it, but later on she recalls smiling slightly on the walk home.

...

Waking up this morning, Phosphora really didn't expect her to be fighting a mist-Bayonetta over a rock. It was definitely unexpected, and Phosphora didn't like the unexpected.

She flew around, doing her best to avoid mist-Bayo's bullets while also shooting her own projectiles back. In an attempt to close the space between them, she shot her own projectiles towards the mist-Bayonetta, but all the ones who made contact just fazed through her.

"Argh… Nothing's working!" Phosphora growled through gritted teeth.

"If you could hurry up, that'd be great!" Bayonetta yelled as she shot down a couple more demons. "No pressure, though! It's only my life, after all!"

"Just… give me one minute!" Phosphora yelled. "I can't hit her!"

"Well… Try thinking outside the box!" Bayonetta said.

"Outside the box…" Bayonetta looked around frantically, but found nothing. All around her was the darkness of the caves. "Outside… Outside!"

She charged up a lightning blast and shot it towards the ceiling of the cave. Upon impact, the ceiling all around her quickly gave way and collapsed. She rolled away quickly and looked up to see a large spot of sunlight shining from the hole.

"Perfect!" Phosphora cheered.

"Get back here!" Mist-Bayonetta yelled. "Fight me like a girl!"

"Oh, I plan to!" Phosphora said, taking out her pocket mirror. "If you were born out of a stone of darkness, then light…" she used the mirror to direct the light to the mist Witch, which immediately caused her to writhe in pain, "Gotcha!"

"Argh! You little punk!" Mist-Bayonetta yelled. "I'll get you for that!" With a wave of her hand, her misty body disappeared, leaving nothing but the darkness behind her.

"Where'd she go?" Phosphora gasped. "Hmm… Mist is air, and when air moves, it creates wind. So…" She closed her eyes and focused. Suddenly she felt a whiff of air from behind her and immediately turned around, directing the light right over the then-invisible Mist-Bayonetta's heart.

"Areeegghhhhh! Noooooooo!" The mist Witch rolled around the floor in pain, cussing and groaning. "I'll get you for this one day…" She yelled before disappearing in a poof of black mist.

"It's done…" Phosphora gasped.

"Oh, well done!" Bayonetta said between gasps of air. She walked up to the darkness stone and picketed it. "You almost had me worried there!"

"Well, you would've been a goner if Pit hadn't of come back to get me.

"Pit? Why, the mist must've been playing tricks on you, sweetie. I sent Pit home soon after you left. He was too annoying for me."

"Huh." Phosphora said. She didn't say anything more, but she couldn't shake the feeling that the mist didn't play tricks on her and that there actually was someone there. But who could it have been?

They walked out of the cave in silence.

"Well, thanks for everything. You've certainly made it on my good side." Bayonetta said. "Ta-ta!" She transformed into a swarm of bats and flew away into the sky, which was now darkened with black clouds.

"As much as I like lightning, I'm glad this approving storm wasn't there twenty minutes ago. That would've been bad." Phosphora said. "...and I'm talking to myself. Alright." She flew off towards home, unaware of the piercing red eyes of Dark Pit staring at her from inside the cave. He watched Phosphora fly off without taking his eyes off her until she was just a small blue dot on the horizon.

A/N: I would love to talk about upcoming stuff happening in the story, but I got some lawyering to do! Spirit of Justice ain't gonna beat itself! Until next time!
