Chapter 55: Rest In Peace My Dearest.
Sting's POV
October 15th X794
Fairy Tail Guild Hall
"This is it" he thought to himself as both him and his wife stood outside the huge wooden doors of the Fairy Tail guild hall. After today Lucy would be able to move on and they would be able to get on with their lives without living in a constant rut.
He was still nervous of course, something this monumental couldn't be taken lightly by any means.
As they stood outside the doors waiting for what, he didn't know, but the three were waiting. He looked to his left and saw his wife staring into the chipped wood doors with a look of contemplation. He didn't know what she was contemplating exactly, but it appeared she was having an inner battle with herself whether to go in or not.
She kept reaching for the doors but then pulling her hand back at the last moment, they both knew as soon as she touched the wooden planks that there was no going back and she would have to fight her demon head on.
As the three stood there he thought a lot about the past three years and he also thought of what their future would hold. He assumed it would be grand and they would live a long life with each other, have more children maybe, he didn't know, but he was sure he'd stay with Lucy forever, even maybe after.
When he had met the blonde celestial mage she had been so broken and fragile, lost and afraid of the world around her, but now, she was stronger, she was living a good life and she was out of that darkness, she had been for a while now this was just the last step she needed to take to get fully over this nightmare. Whenever he thought about the things that had happened to Lucy in the past he became infuriated, he didn't understand how someone who Lucy had thought of as a friend could ruin the blondes life to the point that she had been willing to take her own life.
He wouldn't say it out loud and he felt like a monster for even thinking it, but he was glad the takeover mage was dying, the last person was said to be on the verge of 'turning' tomorrow, thank god, this nightmare would end and it would all be over. Wakaba was his name, the last and final person and then Lisanna would breathe her last breath, for good.
Sting thought about when he first met Lucy, when they had met at the abandoned park at the edge of Crocus, he had wondered why she had been there so late into the night, but now he knew, she had dreamed of escaping her reality back then and that was the way for her to do it. he remembered her question as he walked her back to her inn, he had figured out long ago why she had asked that, he didn't fully grasp the situation back then but he understood it better now. She had literally been breaking apart inside and he hadn't noticed at first and for that he felt like an idiot, if he had seen the signs earlier then he had then Lucy probably wouldn't have lost the use of her legs in the first place, but she was walking now, still stumbling a bit, but she was walking and able to run and dance.
Sometimes though it was still hard on her, with her legs that is and her prosthetic hand, some days she complained about her legs aching her and her she would often forget to infuse magic into her hand when she went to grab things so she often got frustrated, but she was better then before, far better. She was smiling again and Sting was thankful for that fact.
He moved his eyes over to his lover once more and watched as she raised her hand to the door for the millionth time, sighing as she brought it back down. They needed to do this soon, the anticipation was killing him and he desperately wanted to get his family home.
"Luce, come on, you can do this, I'll be with you the entire time" he smiled over at her as she raised her brown eyes to look into his blue one. Her eyes told a story, as they always did, but she was afraid this time, an emotion he didn't like to see etched on her pretty face.
"Babe, it'll be fine, I promise. No one is going to hurt you" he reassured as he went to grasp her hand that wasn't holding onto the stroller, Mitsu giggling softly as a butterfly floated by on the soft breeze. He watched as Lucy's hair blow lazily around her face and shielded her face from the world, his own hair was getting tossed around in the wind.
"I know, I'm just nervous I guess. What am I going to say, what am I going to do?" She questioned unsteadily as she gazed back at the door with large questioning eyes.
"You do what comes to mind, ask what comes to mind. I personally want to know why she cursed her friends and tried to kill you" he said grumpily, he heard Lucy giggle from beside him and knew he had lifted her spirits.
"Okay...I'm ready" she said in a whisper as she reached out for the cracked wooden doors once more, only this time she made contact, she froze up for a moment as she heard the guild go silent as the door opened slowly with a loud creak.
Eyes were on them as if they were magnets and he felt his wife whimper in distress as she gazed around her old guild hall. Sting knew that this would be difficult for his wife, he didn't necessarily want to be here anymore than she did, unfortunately it was something that needed to be done.
"Child.." a wise voice called from the railing on the second floor of the tall guild building. Every eye went to where the tiny guild master sat with both eyes on the three visitors.
"Master..." Lucy said in a small voice as she bowed slightly in his presence.
"She's on her death bed Lucy. It's best if you go see her now before more time passes" Makarov said as he stood up and motioned for them to come forward. Sting paused to hand Mitsu over to Levy who stood nearby, as she had walked up to greet the three. Erza stood near the foot of the stairs along with Laxus, Gray and Natsu, who undoubtedly would all be joining them in this small meeting.
This was getting bigger then he'd like it too, and apparently Lucy thought the same as halfway up the stairs she paused and turned around to look at her followers.
"I know you all want to keep me safe, but I need to do this on my own" she said with a hand clutched to her chest, everyone was silent as they contemplated what the blonde had said, before everyone yelled at once.
"We can't allow that!"
"No way blondie!"
"She might do something!"
"SILENCE!" Makarov roared, Sting looked over to see that Lucy was tearing up and Makarov had a fearsome look on his face.
"If that is what Lucy wishes we will let her. Whatever way is easier for her. Two people will stand by the door at all times, regarding Lisanna, she is incapable of doing anyone harm anymore. If you bafoons hadn't noticed by now that she is falling apart then you are all idiots!" he said with two of his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose.
"But...Fine, as you wish master" Erza said with a sigh and began walking once more, obviously taking the first watch by the door along with Sting, everyone else grumbled but argued no more as they either walked back down the stairs or took a place on the steps, just to be safe. Sting knew Lucy would be safe no matter what, so many people were around to make that so it was true.
"Thank you, all of you. I just...I need to do this on my own" the blonde dragon slayer heard his wife whisper, he wasn't sure if anyone was actually meant to hear it. He had expected for Lucy to tell everyone that she wanted to do this alone, that's how she was. She also thought that this was her challenge alone and it probably was, but still he hadn't expected to be kicked out of the meeting as well, but he knew there was no point in arguing with her, for her mind was already made up.
The door to the infirmary came faster than anyone was prepared for and Lucy stood like a statue for a long while as she stared ahead if her. Sting put a reassuring hand on her shoulder and squeezed gently, she lifted a hand to where his was perched, squeezed and gave a determined smile before slipping out of his grasp to walk towards the door of the room where her demon lay dying.
The door opened with a squeak and they watched as Lucy walked in, closing the door behind her and disappearing from sight...
Lisanna's POV
Fairy Tail Infirmary
Today was the day that Lucy would come see her. She didn't understand why the blonde was coming, surely she knew that she would get nothing from this visit except hateful remarks. Lisanna would not let her have the last laugh.
There was commotion downstairs and she knew the blonde and her family had arrived, it wouldn't be long before they would be face to face for the first time in three years, this was no hallucination that she would be seeing this time. No, this was the real Lucy, flesh and blood and easily killable, if only she had the strength to lift herself up!
She heard the creak of steps as people walked up the stairs, they paused briefly as what she assumed to be a small argument took place before beginning to squeak once more, for some reason the takeover mages heart was beating faster then lightening strikes.
The pitter patter of footsteps echoed in her mind. Closer and closer. Sudedenly all noise stopped, right in front of the infirmary door, Lisanna gulped as the door handle twisted to the side.
The brown oak opened slowly to reveal the blonde who had hauntedbher dreams for three years, the blonde who she had failed to kill. The girl who ruined her life.
"Lucy..." she growled out as best as she could, the only thing the blonde did was nod in acknowledgment before taking a seat next to the bed, watching Lisanna intently, her chocolate brown orbs sparkling in a mischievous grin.
"Can I ask you something?" the blonde questioned suddenly after she had gotten herself situated in the plush blue chair.
Lisanna had to admit that Lucy looked radiant, as if she was glowing in a celestial substance. She hated it, here she was dying and the girl she was so close to defeating was looking better then ever! How could fate hand her such a short stick?
"Ask away, I won't answer you anyway" Lisanna scoffed at the blonde who just shook her head at her, making the takeover mage angrier than she had been before. How dare Lucy smile as if she won something!
"Do you remember yet, Lisanna?" a sly smirk was etched on the blondes face as she said the sentence. Lisanna's eyes widened a fraction as the words were spoken, she'd heard the question so many nights in her dreams, with that stupid hallucination..
And still she didn't have a clue as to what they meant. All there was, was Lucy, thats all there had ever been. Lucy, Lucy, Lucy! The damn blonde was in her thoughts every waking and sleeping moment. There was nothing but a blank canvas in her mind, the only thing she was capable of thinking about was the blonde wentch in front of her.
"I don't know what you are talking about" The takeover mage snapped at the blonde, forgoing the question as to why she kept asking the same question, she didn't need Lucy to know that she had undeniably gone insane as this curse ate at her brain.
"Of course you don't. You know, I know everything there is to know about this curse, even a way to reverse it" The blonde said with a malicous grin, an evil glint to her eyes as she spoke.
Lisanna was confused, what did she mean this curse was reversable? She had looked into it herself, even before she had cast it upon the guild in order to kill Lucy. There was absolutely no way in hell she'd be able to reverse this, it wasn't like she wanted that bitches help anyways!
"No, no thats not possible!" Lisanna screamed before a coughing fit shook her frail form, Lucy handed her a glasd of water but Lisanna knocked it away, eventually the coughing subsided but the blood dribbling onto her chin didn't subside like it normally did.
"Looks like someones losing their time..." Lucy smiled slightly as she took a clothe and dampened it in the sink before wiping up Lisanna's chin, chest and hands.
"You know I forgave you a long time ago, but it seems that you still hold a grudge. You know you'll be screaming in agony in a few hours, because the process is speeding up" the celestial mage said as she wrung the bloody clothe out and washed her hands.
"What the hell do you mean, Lucy? How can you know all this?" Lisanna asked in a hoarse voice, seeing as how the last coughing fit did real damage to her throat she couldn't talk properly.
"It was an intricate plan I must say, but I was always one step ahead of you. Silly girl" Lucy said as she sat back down, this time on the bed beside Lisanna.
The hairless mage was confused at this point, she hadn't the slightest idea as to what Lucy was saying, but obviously it was nothing good.
"Do you know why the curse you cast on the guild didn't have an effect on your body right away?" Lucy questioned as she turned to face the dying girl, who's eyes widened at the blondes terrifying expression, her lips were twisted in what seemed to be a snarl and her eyes dance psychotic merriment.
"W-Why?" Lisanna questioned.
The blonde leaned over to look her straight in the eyes before whispering, "because it's something completely different then your curse!" Lucy laughed as she leaned closer to the takeover mages face.
"What do you mean by that, it has to be the curses faupt that I'm dying theres no other explanation!" Lisanna whispered in a slightly terrified voice.
"Really? Stop being naive girl! You want to know the reason right?" the celestial mage said, suddenly filled with excitment.
"Okay, amuse me then" she responded with crossed arms.
"It's because I created this curse and made it seem as if it was part of yours! Do you ever wonder why no one could find a cure? No one knows about this magic but me!" the blonde woman said with excitment. Lisanna was horrified, had, had she really been duped? Had the blonde really done something like this to her?
It made her want to kill that blonde bitch! How dare she!
"Lucy Heartfilia! I hope you go to hell" she growled out, looking at the celestial mage with the deadliest glare she could muster, all it did was make the blonde laugh quietly.
"Don't worry, you'll be heading that way soon. I just wanted you to know. Thatsl you've forgotten it, you've forgotten it all. The way you used to live, the way you laughed and the way you loved. But you'll see their faces before you die, which I've sped up to be..." she pulled her head back to look at the lacrima clock that hung on the far wall, "five minutes" she continued before turning to the door.
"I-I thought i had until tomorrow!" Lisanna tried to shout but coughed again, making blood run from her mouth more rapidly then before.
"I took it away from you, just like you tried to take aeay my time. An eye for an eye, Lisanna dearest." she said before looking back at Lisanna once more, "Have a pleasant death" she whispered before morphing her face into one of panic and throwing the door open and screaming that the takeover mage was bleedinh feircly.
She had three minutes left, and she found herself unable to talk, no one would ever know the truth. About her and Lucy.
She would take the secret to the grave.
The pounding of footsteps made her eyelids flutter open and she heard her name being screamed by the sweetest voice she'd ever heard.
Images flashed before her eyes, ones of happy times and sad times. She remembered them, her white haired siblings, her guildmates.
She closed her eyes and let the dam burst and tears flowed out as she realized just what the blonde had made her forget. Her family.
She had seen their faces as they rushed into the infirmary screaming her name, tears pouring down their cheeks as she died right before their eyes.
She remembered what she had forgotten.
And with her last and final breath she thought of them crying for her for all these years. All those years they waited for her to remember them, but she never did, she'd been to caught up in the thought of destroying Lucy Heartfilia.
A shuddering breath came from her throat as she took her final breath, and at long last she faced her own demons as her heart stopped beating.
I'm going to do a bonus chapter! So stick around!
Hope you all enjoyed!
