Chapter 19: City at War Part 2
Mikey's P.O.V.
The building had collapsed on top of us and with the quick thinking of Donnie we were saved from being made into turtle pancakes by a slab of concrete. Pete was knocked out but thankfully not bleeding, a piece of flying concrete hit the back of his head. But now here we are underneath this slab trying to keep it from crushing us.
"Nice thinking, Don." Leo said. His shell was to the slab while Raph, Don and I were holding it up.
"It almost makes up for big brain Leo leading us straight into this mess." Raph snarked.
"Guys, let's continue this discussion elsewhere." Donnie said.
"Everybody, move on three. Mikey, you grab Pete." Leo said. I nodded and Leo counted. It was the fastest one, two, three of my life. I quickly grabbed my unconscious brother and flipped over the debris and landed safely on the other side of it as the slab and all that was on top of it crumbled down.
On the street the Foot and the Mob were regrouping against the robotic cyclops' shooting things. When we landed safely Pete began to stir, thank god, because he always has us worried when he gets knocked unconscious.
"Okay…. What was with the kamikaze robots?" Donnie asked.
"Looks like there is a new player in the mix." I chimed in.
"Great, just what this town needs." Raph looked at Leo. "If having them drop a building on our heads don't convince you we should stay out of this, I don't know what will." By the end Raph was tapping Leo's chest.
"Since when do you run from a fight?" it was a valid point, Raph was never one to just run from a fight.
"First, I ain't running. Second, it wasn't our fight to begin with."
"Yeah, well guess what?! It's our fight now, hothead!"
"Who are you calling hothead?! I ain't the one who dragged us into this mess." By then the was movement from the rubble of the building, almost like something was crawling or blasting its way out of it.
"Uh, guys…." Donnie tried.
"Oh, right, you're the level headed one who only fights for honor when it's convenient." Leo said. Two claws shot up from the rubble.
"Guys?" I tried.
"Are you saying I ain't got no…. What the?" Raph asked stopping mid fight.
"Good, you two can finish up at home. We have things to take care of up here." Pete said as he finally got to his feet.
"Are you ok?" I asked.
"I should be fine, just a nasty knock to the head." Pete whispered. Just then the robot burst forth from the debris, showering everyone in bits of dust and smaller pieces of rubble. Then to make matters worse, it started firing at us.
We pulled out our weapons ready to start fighting. And to make matters worse, we seemed to be teamed up with the Foot. It's not ordinary to team up with your enemy. It fired right at us and we jumped out of the way and began attacking it along with the Foot that were there.
"Fighting side by side with the Foot, now you know this has got to be wrong." Raph said once it sunk in that this was actually happening.
"Once the robot is defeated, we will destroy you all!" an elite Foot said as he attacked it.
"Now that's more like it, I thought all this was just a hallucination caused by the hit to the head." Pete said with a slight smile.
"Now that's the Foot we know and loathe." Donnie said as he struggled to get his staff free from the robot's grasp. Pete jumped over there to help Donnie free his weapon and all the while the robot was still firing it's weapon.
I heard tires squealing and lights shining brightly on the robot. I turned around to see a bus heading straight towards it. The robot fired causing the bus to swerve and lose control, immediately Pete jumped in and grabbed the robot's attention away from the bus full of civilians who could most likely see all of us. Thankfully the bus stayed on its tires and the people ran screaming from the bus and the fight.
"Somebody, please help me!" a voice called from inside of the bus.
Leo ran to the bus as well as Pete, without much thought. "Leo!" Raph screamed. "Pete!" I screamed. But they both ran into the partly destroyed bus to free the person trapped in there.
"What do you think you're doing?!" Raph screamed when they didn't answer.
"What do you think they're doing?" I asked.
"They're being stupid, but I guess that's just what they do." Raph sighed.
I could still tell that he was pissed at Leo for getting us into this situation to begin with. When Leo and Pete came out of the bus with a the trapped man all five of us immediately took cover behind a small piece of wall that was stilling standing while the robot continued to fire at us. A couple of Foot flipped over to our spot to try and hide and Raph immediately went on the defensive.
"Back off, Foot heads. This is our barricade." Raph said. Leo and I stood up and got into a fighting stance while Donnie and Pete crouching and trying to come up with a way of defeating the robot.
"Guys, wait, I think I can see how we can stop this thing." Donnie said.
"We just need to get to the downed power lines." Pete said.
"Forget it, I know how to stop tin butt." Raph said as he ran back to the bus.
"Raph wait, listen to me!" Leo called.
"Listening to you is what got us into this mess in the first place." Raph said.
He started the bus and he gunned it straight at the robot. The robot turned and began firing at him. Several pieces of the bus came flying off as Raph drove it. One thing I noticed is that it hit the fuel tank and I was surprised that it didn't actually explode as soon as the robot hit it. The robot fired another beam at the bus and it flipped over onto its top and skidded several feet.
"No!" Donnie yelled.
"Raph!" Leo yelled as he leaped over the barricade.
Pete was getting ready to follow and Donnie ushered him to follow and to let Leo get Raph out.
Leo's P.O.V.
I made it to the bus and used one of my swords to get the doors open. Once open I peered inside the bus to see if I could see my hot-headed brother.
"Raph, you okay bro?" I called.
"Yeah, I think so." Raph said coming from the other side. I looked over and if the situation wasn't serious I probably would have smiled. He was strapped to the driver seat upside down with his arms crossed.
"Well, you don't deserve to be." I said. I knew the fuel was leaking out outside and it was only a matter of time before something caught it on fire. So I grabbed his legs and began pulling, hoping that would get him out.
"Oh, so it's okay when you're mistakes blow up in our faces?" Raph asked after a while.
"Getting involved in this gang war was not a mistake." I said.
"Right, this was a noble, heroic effort. Thank you, Leonardo. The streets are so much safer now because of you." Raph said.
"Leo, Raph get out of the bus!" I hear Donnie yell.
I looked out the back window to see that the trail of gas was lit and was almost to the bus. I needed to get Raph free, and fast. I took out a katana and sliced through what was keeping the seat to the floor. It fell to the ground with a bang.
"Ow," whined Raph as his head collided with the ground. He growled but I was able to free him just in time to get out before the bus exploded. When it exploded we flew a few feet forward onto our stomachs. Raph looked at me with a slight grin.
"Whatever you do, don't say I owe you one." He said.
"Mikey, heard the robot this way!" Donnie yelled.
Raph and I looked over to see Donnie standing by a puddle of water with a couple of power cables in his hand and Pete and Mikey fighting the robot at the opposite end.
"Heard em'? You got it." Mikey said. He was standing next to two elite ninja's and Pete was slightly in front.
It didn't take much as the robot wasn't standing too far from the water itself. Once the robot stepped into the water Donnie dropped the two cables into it. It didn't take long to disable the robot.
"Good job, guys." Mikey said.
"Destroy the turtles." The elite ninja said. Mikey jumped away from them.
"Jeesh, some people just can't take a compliment." Mikey said. They were backing Mikey up to the puddle and there was a lot of them. "A lot of guys can't take a compliment." Mikey turned around and lead them down an alley taking a group of them with him. He lead them up a fire escape to the roofs.
"Mikey needs help." Raph said as we watched him lead them to the roofs.
"I got it." Pete said as he swung away to meet up with Mikey.
Just as Pete left we were shot at from behind by more of those robots. The fight was going on too long because we were gaining the attention of the police. There were two helicopters closing in as well as a S.W.A.T. vehicle. I surprised when I didn't hear gunfire right away.
"Uh-oh." Raph said. I turned to see him looking up at the rooftops. I looked up too and what I saw I didn't like. Purple Dragons were up there and from the looks of it, they came heavily armed. "Leo, if we don't live through this, I'm holding you personally responsible."
"Dragons, take them down." Hun ordered in his deep voice. The Dragons took aim, and fired at us. Scattering us across the street so we wouldn't be hit by any stray bullets.
"Look out!" Raph tackled Don and I to the ground as a rocket exploded an empty car near where we were standing. Hun fired another one and we jumped out of the way.
"Guys, we're in way over our heads." Donnie said. "We have to get out of here." From behind us we heard a familiar honk of a horn. We turned to see Pete hanging on the side of April's van. When it parked next to us Mikey opened up the side door.
"Somebody call a cab?" he asked as Pete defended. We climbed into the van and Casey gunned it out of there.
"Awesome road warrior moves, Casey." Mikey said.
"You should see me at rush hour." Casey responded.
"No thanks, I don't think I want to know." Pete said. He kept ready in the passenger seat to defend us as he was the only one who had long range attacks.
We drove for about ten more minutes with me giving directions to the hideout I use when I don't want to followed back to the lair. Casey parked the van in a side alley and we made it up to the rooftops stealthily so nobody would spot us.
"So, what's up with the new digs?" Casey asked.
"Couldn't risk leading anyone back to the lair, so I was staying here. It should be good enough for all of us until we figure out our next move." I said.
"Next move? You mean like going home and forgetting about all of this nonsense?" Raph asked.
"We have to do something."
"Like what? Pour more fuel on the fire? I've said it before and I'll say it again: this ain't our fight." Raph said.
"You might want to sit, this could go on for hours." Mikey said.
"So, whose fight is it? The innocent people caught up in the crossfire?" I countered.
"You can't save a whole city, bro." Raph said. Pete crossed his arm and muttered something that nobody could hear. "But you could make it worse by trying."
"So, we should just forget bushido and our entire code of honor?" I asked crossing my arms.
"Where's the honor in sticking your nose where it don't belong?" Raph asked.
"Nobody asked you to come along, Raph. Nobody is forcing you to stay."
"Back off, Leo. I'm warning ya."
"Who needs you, hothead?"
"Yo, say the word and I'm out of here."
"Since when do you need my permission?"
"Um, guys." Pete said leaping to his feet.
"You what you're right. Good luck on your one turtle crusade, Leo. Just try not to get these other guys iced." Raph said walking away.
"Bros, we need to leave like, now!" Pete exclaimed.
We turned to look at him and we ran for the exits. Before we made it the floor exploded sending us to the rooftop below us. We each landed on our feet in a stance, except for Casey, he landed on his butt. In front of us was two guys and a woman, all three of them had the foot emblem on their chests.
"I believe we have a few matters to discuss." The female said with an accent I couldn't place except Asian of sorts. "My name is Karai. And I am here to restore order to the Foot."
"I got your order right here, lady." Raph said pulling his sais out.
"Stand down, Raph." I said. Casey stood up and pulled out a bat.
"No, I'm sick of being everyone's punching bag. And I'm really sick of taking orders from you." Raph said point a sai at me.
"I said; stand down, Raph."
Needless to say, Raph didn't follow my orders. He leapt into the fight and almost immediately he was knocked to the ground after being disarmed with a chain. Karai leapt at him with a sword and I immediately drew mine and blocked the hit my brother would have taken. I threw her back to her two big dudes and all three of them attacked. My brothers and Casey ran at them as well.
These guys were a lot better trained then the usual Foot goons we encounter. It was almost as if they knew what we were thinking before it happened. I didn't know how else to explain it. It didn't matter what we threw at them, they seemed to get the upper hand each and every time. Only Pete seemed to not be getting hit at all which seemed to be pissing off his opponent to no end.
"Ah, what's wrong, just not fast enough?" he taunted. I mentally slapped myself and kept dodging and hitting only to be hit myself.
Mikey and Donnie switched opponents to see if that would make any difference, evidently it didn't and Raph tried attacking Karai after Casey got tripped up by her. That didn't end up too well, his sai got embedded into the wall. Now Raph and Karai were on top of the roof stairwell circling each other, waiting for one to attack the other.
Karai attacked first. Raph was doing a fairly decent job until she used her chain to wrap around one of his wrists. He pulled the chain taught hoping to throw her off the roof. He couldn't so I sliced the chain, freeing my brother which in turn sent him flying off the roof. Karai switched to attacking me and I knocked her sword out of her hand. She switched to her chain and I cut even more of it so it became useless. She resorted to hand to hand and I knocked her back, I thought I knocked her out but she faked it and knocked me to my shell. With a foot on top of me and her tanto out she spoke to the others.
"Now, I came here to discuss a matter with you. And discuss it we shall. With or without your leader. It is your choice." Karai said with her knife pointed directly in my face.
