Whoooo! Guys, we got to chapter 50! I wouldn't have been able to make it this far without all of you :) you guys give me all the strength and motivation that I lack. So thank you all so very much.
I really do hope that I'll be able to continue updating but VMI doesn't allow much free time to freshmen. Well, at least for five or six months. Then, they'll just kill us with boredom, I've heard.
Nat's toe bound off the pavement as she steered her scooter down the sidewalk. She was smiling against the wind which was blowing on her face.
"Natalie!" Uncle Sam was jogging to catch up. "Natalie, reel on back."
The young girl had stopped immediately and began to maneuver her little scooter around towards her Uncle. Then she flew back. Hands gripping the stubby handlebars tightly, foot racing over the pavement, shoulders hunched, eyes furrowed in concentration in her intense reverie.
Sam's eyes widened at the speed she came at him. He put his hands out to defend himself, waiting to feel the sharp impact of the metal scooter ramming into his shins. When nothing happened, he opened his eyes slowly and looked down at Natalie who had abruptly stopped.
"Where's your helmet?" He asked.
"I didn't like it," Nat replied, "so I gave it to Rumsfeld." She was smiling. "He likes the way it tastes."
"Okay," Sam began, collecting himself. "Just be careful. Don't go too far."
Natalie nodded and waddled around so the metal wouldn't hit against her ankles. She had learned, from experience, that it hurt. A lot.
Before she kicked off though, she looked back.
"You were protecting me. Weren't you?"
"Yup," Sam nodded.
"There could've been cars, couldn't there have?"
"Yup," he said again. "There could have been."
She smiled. "Thanks. When I'm bigger, I'll protect you too."
