A/N: A wise woman once said:
Filler chapters are stepping stones, necessary in the path to get from one place to another. Otherwise the reader slips and gets wet in the stream of misunderstanding.
In public I will always deny calling her wise! So pssst!
This is a filler chapter. It sets the final path to the big band that is about to happen. Enjoy...or fear the future. As you like...
Oh, and: Thank you for the overwhelming reviews for the last chapter! I almost didn't post it. Now I am glad I did!
Chapter 55
Wrestlemania Week. The first WM I was really involved in. And Jon was involved in it big time. The main event!
Joe, Colby and Jon against the reigning champion John Cena. Colby and Jon worked the heel part, Joe and John, the one with the H would work the face part. It was huge.
We arrived in Santa Clara early on Wednesday morning and Jon headed out for a training session with his brothers. He was one hundred percent focused on this match. He would never admit it to anyone, not even me, but he was hyped. To the outside he presented his usual I am supposed to be here shit I am not nervous, but considering the amount of time he put into this even on his days off, you knew this was serious for him.
During the last couple of weeks we only seemed to spend our nights together and now I was on my own as well.
I headed out to Axxess to work. Jon had a panel later that day and I would media relate with the German TV stations. WWE really appreciated someone who could really speak German fluently.
Axxess was a huge deal again. And it brought sweet memories back. Last year I wasn't married at this point. Now I was Mrs Good for a solid 10 month and it had been a roller coaster ride. With the marriage that had to be put together in no time, the meeting with Immigrations afterwards, Jons shoulder injury and relapse with alcohol and drugs. My own health scare earlier this year along with the stunt that Jon's mother pulled. It had been a lot in a short amount of time. But Jon and I stood together and we were back at the grandest stages of them all.
I walked through the Axxess building helping out here and there but everything seemed to run smoothly.
Later I got a text from Jon telling me he was here so I went and collected him.
"How was training?" I asked him as we waited backstage. Colby was typing away on his phone and I checked the time.
"It was good. We are ready right Colby?"
"Oh yeah, we will steal the show."
It was time and I lead them outside to their booth. Fans were crazy about them even though they were heels at the moment.
Everything went smoothly, they did a handful of short interviews after that and the hour was over in no time.
"I have to stay a little longer. I see you tonight Jon."
I kissed him goodbye and went back to work.
Like this did the rest of the days went. On Saturday was the HoF and we could dress up again. Well Jon hated it but I kinda liked it. It was a rare moment where we could be together in front of the camera. And the after party with Jessie and Leighla was great.
Sunday. Jon was out of bed by 5 am and I lingered a little longer. He was really invested in this one match and if I wouldn't have the same dream I would question his neglect for me. But I didn't because it would get me nowhere. Wrestling was his life and priority and he was at the peak maybe only once.
So I crawled out of bed around 8 with still no signs of my husband.
At the restaurant I found Jessie and Leigh equally alone.
"Where are they?" I asked as I sat down with my breakfast.
Leigh and Jessie shared a look. "They go over some last minute changes and rehearse with Cena again." Leigh told me and showed me the text from her fiancé. I bit my lip. It wasn't like Jon to not at least drop me a line or leave a voicemail.
"Don't worry. You husband works his ass off and he knows that we were scheduled for breakfast. He let Colby type because it would have taken him an hour." Jessie ensured me grinning.
Still...this was not like Jon.
He arrived back at the hotel around noon and found me working on my ipad.
"Hey." he said. His face radiated with happiness that was the only reason I didn't say anything.
"Hey. Good workout?"
"Yep. We have everything down. Bus leaves in 30 minutes."
"I know." I told him and for the first time he stopped and studied me.
"You got the note right?"
My eyes must have told him the answer and he swore softly as he checked his phone.
Message not send
"We had crappy reception. I sent it and switched the phone off."
I made a face and he walked up to me and flopped down on the bed beside me.
"Sorry Sam. My head is so full of this match. It will get better I promise."
He kissed my temple.
"Did the outcome change?"
"No. Still the same since Tuesday."
For this one match I knew the outcome but WWE was famous for last minute changes.
"Okay, let me grab my stuff, your suitcase is packed."
Jon nodded and grabbed his stuff without checking again. He trusted me to have everything he needed.
"Well, let's steal the show." He grinned and we were good to go.
The arena was on fire. Even backstage you could feel this special energy. People from all around the world sat outside and cheered and it was truly special. I lingered backstage helping out here and there and collected Jon when it was time.
He had just finished warming up and was in the zone, putting on Dean Ambrose.
"Dean, its time. 5 minutes."
He got up, rolled his head and stopped in front of me.
I couldn't resist and pushed my hand through his hair and down his scruffy jaw. He looked good.
"Take care out there. I'll be in the audience. I love you."
We kissed and I rushed out because it was high time to take my seat next to Leigh and Jessie. They had watched the whole thing.
It started with Seth and Dean entering, next was Roman and last the champion John Cena. The atmosphere was overwhelming.
I knew the outcome but no details and with Seth and Dean you could expect some breathtaking stuff. Leigh spend half the match with her hand over her mouth. I inhaled sharply a couple of times as well. Jessie shrieked as Roman send both Dean and Seth through the titantron in the back. The match was falls count everywhere and John Cena wanted to use the commotion to pin Seth but he kicked out and Roman hit John with a spear and fell down on him and he pinned the champ while Seth and Dean were still out.
1 2 3!
He did it! Roman did it. He won!
The crowd erupted with cheers and Jessie cried and Leighla hugged her, her eyes were also wet.
I clapped for Roman but checked also on my husband. He seemed fine but was guided outside by the docs as well as Seth. That was necessary to sell the impact of Romans spear.
He went back into the ring and John Cena raised his arm and handed over the title. Joe did it.
I excused myself and went backstage. I found my man and my best friend in the trainer's room for a check up.
"Hey guys. Amazing match. But Leigh almost cried a couple of times and I had like 5 heart attacks."
Instead of feeling guilty they bumped their fists. "Then we did our job." Colby grinned.
"Roman celebrating?" Jon asked and I nodded.
Him and Colby shared a look. It was hard sometimes. They did this for near 12 years. They had showed Roman how it's done. They were not jealous of Roman but they maybe didn't agree with the decision the WWE made.
"You both will have that title one day." I ensured them.
For tonight they would be good friends and celebrate with Joe.
RAW after WM was always a huge deal as well. The crowd was International and the atmosphere special.
Roman was in the ring, celebrating, when Seth and Dean walked to the ring. Dean was furious and Roman threw him out of the ring. Seth remained there and shook Roman's hand, to the dislike of Dean. This was the beginning of the end for the Shield. In the coming weeks Seth and Dean would split. And that meant also that our little car pooling with Colby would end for the time being. I hated this, but it was the business. At least I had Jon still with me. Or so I thought…
A/N: Okay, the next chapters will be drama, drama, drama. Are you excited?! I am!
