Fairy Tail Next Generation
Chapter 50
"No."
"Yes."
"Hell to the fucking no."
"Oh come on. It's not like we have a choice in the matter." It was two in the morning, and I was already arguing with Cali. I had fallen asleep in the guild, there was a snow storm last night and Mira wouldn't let me leave. I ended up waking to the sound of Gajeel and Cali's bickering. Gajeel had to bring Cali into the guild early today, and she didn't want to wake up. He picked her up and carried her all the way here. Master Makarov wanted her here early because he was planning on sending her out on a special undercover job. And in the time span of him announcing that to her, and now, I am apparently going with her. The job was to go undercover at a high school (If you don't know already, only the rich go to actual schools). Kids are going missing, and the school board wants to know why. Fairy Tail – being the number one guild in Fiore – was chosen for the job. With a reward of 1 million jewel. So, of course my answer was yes. Cali on the other hand…
"Who the fuck wants to spend time with a bunch of rich fucks with golden spoons up their asses?!" Yeah, Cali doesn't want to go.
"Cali, My Little Dragon, STOP BEING SUCH AN ASSHOLE AND DO AS YOUR TOLD." Gajeel was becoming furious with Cali. Makarov seemed calm.
Cali was still yelling at her dad when Makarov spoke up. "Hey Felix, how does going on the job with Stace instead sound? Stace is very pretty and would probably be very popular."
"I'll go." I was shocked that two short sentences could make Cali change her mind. "I'd rather spend time with rich bitches than watch that bitch be given my job." Was did I even bother being shocked?
"Good girl. Maximus and Nashi will be here soon to get you guys ready." Makarov began to walk away when I asked a question.
"Why didn't you send those two? They're teenagers but more experienced than us."
Makarov stopped for a moment. "The missing students are from first year. You two would be first years, they would be third." He began walking away again when he added. "Good luck with Cali. I would've sent Jase but Juvia took him on a family job with Gray." Oh. I'm a replacement. I feel so loved.
"Morning my little Kouhais!" Nashi stormed into the guild before I could ask anything else.
…
I am very impressed right now. It only took seven tries to find a uniform that had the right leg length. Normally would take more tries. After Nashi and Maximus showed up, Cali and I were dragged off in separate directions. Maximus gave me a look over. "Too preppy. I would hate to have to wear uniforms every day. Or to live at school. Who wants to live at a school?"
"Wouldn't living at school be a plus?" I asked in a choked out voice as Maximus tried tying my tie.
"How so?" Maximus glanced at me real quick before returning focus to the tie.
"Well, it would make not being late easier. It would also mean that you could see your friends more. And your . . ." I trailed off, too embarrassed to say it.
"Your?" Maximus gave us with the tie and pushed me into a chair.
"I don't know how to phrase it." Well, that's not entirely a lie. Maximus started brushing my hair.
"Just say it. How do you want your hair? Makarov said to make you look like a popular kid."
"Slightly less sloppy then, I guess. Umm, I guess you can be closer to your…"
Maximus pulled my hair. "Dude. Say it."
"LOVER." Crap. No. Uhh. I didn't mean it like that. Oh god. Maximus began laughing. A lot.
"Lover! Oh god Felix, you really did not know how to phrase it did you. You could have said crush or something like that."
"You bastard, you knew what I was trying to say!" Maximus kept laughing as he brush my hair back, like he was going to slick it back. He didn't use gel, but he did use a water mister, and that somehow kept it back. Sort of.
Nashi slammed the door open and gasped. "You really are such a cutie pie!"
"Thanks babe." Maximus blew a kiss to Nashi.
"Not you. Felix, you look so freaking cute. Girls are going to be all over you." Nashi took notice of my untied tie. "Need some help?"
"Yes please." Maximus and I both looked down in shame. If Emma or Elfman were here right now, they'd probably call us unmanly.
"Nashi… can I change yet?" Some part of me melted. All the other parts, they froze. Cali stood in the door way, not looking like herself. The uniform suited her so well. The pale yellow sweater was just slightly too big, the arms almost past the tip of her middle finger. The plaid skirt wasn't her at all, but it showed off her legs entirely different from her normal white shorts. The slightly lose bow the girls uniform came with just matched perfectly with her size. She wore the thigh high socks too. She still had her orange ribbon, it was just tied in her hair differently. Instead of being worn as a pony tail holder or bandana, it was tied like an actual bow on the back of her head. It's hard to describe the hairstyle, but it left her bangs down and enough hair in the front to cover her ears. But some hair was still pulled back, which is what the bow was tied too. Oh Jesus Christ, what I'm trying to say is that Cali looks like a normal human girl. "Oh… nice uniform…"
No. She is not allowed to start acting like a normal human girl too. That's too much at once. "You too."
"All done! Wait, if I loosen up the tie and unbutton the top button – now I'm done! You two look so cute! But super serious time now." Nashi smiled and gestured for Cali and I to sit down. Maximus and Nashi gave each other a look before talking. "This is a very important mission. Or at least it's important because it's worth a lot of jewel. Anyway, neither of you know how to function in high society. Or at school. So we are going to give you a few tips."
"First rule. Always pretend you know what they mean. If they are talking about some type of event or clothing brand or anything you don't know about. Pretend you know about it, they change the subject slyly." Maximus seemed dead serious with that one. Nashi nodded in agreement.
"Rule number two. Don't socialize with each other in public. IF you are put in the same class, act like it is a complete coincidence. Otherwise, only rendezvous to share info. Unless you need to, like your friends are introducing you two. Then play it off like it's your first time meeting each other. I'm sure a do over would be nice, especially if there are no trolls involved." I don't know who told Nashi, but I will find them – and I will kill them.
"Rule number three. Do not let your identities out whatsoever. You will be given cover names. Felix, you still have your first name but that's because no one knows you yet. Cover your guild marks at all costs. Cali, keep the studs hidden. I doubt there are many short, red eyed, studded girls in the kingdom of Fiore. Especially among the rich. Follow these three rules and you should be fine. Well, and basic common sense of going undercover." Nashi and Maximus helped us up and pushed us to the guild hall. Gajeel nearly fainted when he saw Cali. It was about three in the morning now, yet I felt more awake than ever. Makarov yawned and smiled at us.
"You two look nice. Did you guys get the briefing yet?"
"Yeah." Cali and I both said at the same time.
"Cali, had Nashi showed you how to act girly yet?" Cali shook her head no with a pissed off expression. "Go do that. While they're doing that, Maximus go show Felix how to use your Magic Two Wheeler."
"Who gave him permission to use it?"
"I did, now unless you want it to be his permanently – go teach him how to ride it. It's his for the duration for the mission." Maximus pouted and took me outside.
The next ten minutes were spent teaching me how to ride a two wheeler, and another twenty minutes were spent waiting for Cali. When they were finally done, Cali looked grumpier than usual. Not girly at all. Then she nearly threw up when she saw that she was going to have to ride on the back of the two wheeler with me. Even more time was spent convincing her to get on.
Now, the two of us were on the road to the school. We had to get there no later than nine, and it was a three hour drive. Cali eventually fell asleep, but it was really weird. She was still holding on to me really tightly (this only happened after she fell off a few times) with her face pushed into my back. I'm still afraid she will puke on me, but at least I don't have to look at while we sit like this. It was almost disturbing how unlike herself she looked. Even when she wore the dress and SANG, she seemed like herself. I guess that's the point. I wonder if she feels the same way I do though, she did seem a little surprised when she first saw me dressed like this. Who knows how she thinks. I bet ten thousand jewel that she just refers to everyone as idiots in her head.
…
"I'm sure you guys are excited to have a transfer student, but how about two of them?!" Oh my god oh my god oh my god. This is high school. I am walking into my class. Calm yourself Felix, this is undercover. Not your class. You are poor, you don't get this kind of stuff. BUT OH MY GOD THEY ARE STARING AT ME OH MY GOD AVOID EYE CONTACT AVOID EYE CONTACT AT ALL COSTS. "Please go ahead and introduce yourselves." Cali. Go Cali. Introduce yourself first, you walked in first. Do it. Be brave little one.
"Hi everyone, I'm Mafuyu Tsubaki. It's my first time transferring schools, so I'm a little scared. But, you all look so kind that I already feel better. Please regard me kindly for these next three years." She took me for a fool. I was thinking (hoping) she would fail horribly and act like herself. But no. The uniform is getting to her. But . . . knowing how she actually is . . . hearing that is pretty hilarious. The whole class started to call out with hellos and you're cutes. The girls in the class are being decent human beings. The guys, well they look like they might drool. They should take those nasty thoughts and shove them up their asses. It will hurt a lot less than when Cali gets to them. The teacher shooshed them and looked at me.
Oh god, it's my turn. Act cool. Calm. Collected. Like a guy everyone wants to know. Yes. That is me. I will be that guy. "MynameisFelixLewissoyeahcanIpickaseatnow." Yep. The coolest dumbfuck on the planet. The entire class burst into laughter. Some blond guy decided to say something to me.
"You talk like an idiot for a guy who looks like a yankee." Yankee? Wait, isn't that like a term for gangster or delinquent? I look like? Crap, why did I even try if they were gonna judge me by how I look. I thought I looked like them dammit.
Something in my head thought it was a good idea to answer the fucker's statement. "Why at least I don't look like some girly ass wannabe." I don't even know what that insult means. Wait, you're not supposed to cuss in class are you. Crap.
"Mr. Lewis! Maybe Mr. Kurosaki was right about you being a yankee! Go take that seat! And Miss Tsubaki, you can take that seat. Thank you for being such a delightful presence." Stupid Cali. I feel like our places have been switched. Should've been her getting called a yankee. Not me. I may be stupid, but I'm pretty sure that I'm the delightful presence. Looks like we are being seated next to each other anyway. Right in the middle of the back row. I kinda wish we could have been next to the window and all but oh well. I've just got to pretend to listen right?
I finally look over to Cali after about two classes of trying not to look at her. Don't want anyone becoming suspicious. But, after seeing most of these loser guys staring at her – I'm pretty sure one glance won't hurt. She was taking notes and paying attention. That's not really surprising, the stories Mira have been telling me after we looked at the picture album suggest that she gets this from her mother. The guy on the other side of her keeps dropping his pencil near her. I think he wants her attention, after another two tries – she finally turns and picks it up for him.
"Thanks."
"You know, I heard that placing the pencil on the paper when putting it down will help it not roll off the desk. I haven't had the chance to try it yet since I'm always using my pencil, but maybe you should try it for me." Cali smiled at the guy sweetly and continued taking notes. I could literally see hearts in his eyes. All the other guys seem very jealous right now. Idiots. All of them. Just because she smiles like that to you, doesn't mean you're seeing her real smile. Or hearing how she really talks. God damn is she talking too sweetly. She didn't even talk like to Winter, and she was a little kid. This is pissing me off.
This is going to be a very, very long mission.
