Chapter 54: Limited Time Only
Mystic Fall High School was supposed to be empty, outside of Matt. He was busy training when he heard a noise. He gets up and takes a walk around the school. He entered the classroom he thought he heard the noise from. At first it was just dark, then there was a lot of noise. Matt flicked the light on too see a ton of mouse traps snapping. Tyler, Caroline, Elena, Bonnie and Darien were there.
"Ohh! Oh, come on! Seriously?! Do you know how long it took for us to set all this up?!" Caroline whined.
"Forgot about senior prank night, huh?" Tyler smirked.
"Clearly," Matt sighed.
"How could you forget? We've only been waiting for this since like freshman year," Caroline exaggerated.
"Yeah, Matt. If I'm doing this, you're doing this," Elena smiled at him.
Matt glanced at Darien, who he hardly knew and was standing in the back looking out the window, "I'm kind of surprised any of you are doing this."
"Caroline's making us," Bonnie admitted.
"We're about to be seniors. These are the memories that stay with us forever, and if we don't..." Caroline trailed off sadly.
"And if we don't create these memories now, then what's the point of it all?" Elena finished for her.
"Go ahead and make fun, I don't care," Caroline crossed her arms and raised her chin up proudly.
"You're all lame. And I've got ten more classrooms to prank," Tyler picked up his bag and left.
Elena got up to leave as well. "Hey! Where are you going?" Caroline stopped her.
"To superglue Alaric's desk shut. I'm making memories," Elena smiled at her and Caroline smiled back.
"I love you!" Caroline cheered.
Elena went into the hallway, with Darien following close behind. In the hallway Tyler was giving instructions to other students, "Get the faculty toilet seats, and Dana needs bodies in the gym. Let's go."
Elena laughed and walked through a set of double doors. "There's my girl," Klaus appeared in front of her.
Elena's eyes went wide, "Klaus!"
"Klaus!" Darien charged at him, only to be sent flying back, into the wall.
"You're supposed to be dead. What are we going to do about that?" Klaus smiled at her slyly.
"Are you hungry? Let's stop for a bite. A truck stop. Or a trucker. Or maybe her?" Katherine asked Damon, referring to Leilani in the back seat.
"Oh, stop trying to be cute," Damon sighed, tired of her antics.
"I'm not trying, I am," Katherine smirked.
"We've been driving around aimlessly for hours. Where are we going?" Leilani complained, trying to rub the sleepiness out of her eyes.
"Far enough away so that you can't go running back," Katherine laughed.
"Not to worry. Mystic Falls and I are on a bit of a break," Damon explained, "Right Leilani?"
"Right," Leilani yawned.
"You and Mystic Falls, or you and Elena?" Katherine glanced back at Leilani before smiling at Damon.
"Let's just say Elena and I are having a bit of difference of opinion on how I should behave. Leilani understands though," Damon smiled as he looked at the rear view mirror.
"Ooh. Let me guess... Elena wants you to be the hero, and you don't like playing pretend," Katherine guessed.
"He's not the type of hero she wants. She doesn't understand. What's the word for it, antihero?" Leilani popped her head into the front and looked between them.
"Something like that," Damon nodded in agreement.
Stefan finally started to wake up, and instantly saw Rebekah. "Oh, he lives," Rebekah sighed.
"What happened?" Stefan asked as he looked around and noticed he was laying in Sakura's lap.
"You took a beating. My brother's been breaking your neck all afternoon. Quite the temper," Rebekah rolled her eyes.
"Why did he bring us back to Mystic Falls?" Stefan swallowed nervously.
"You can stop playing dumb now. It didn't take him long to figure out what you've been hiding," Rebekah eyed him.
"I'm not hiding anything. I've done everything Klaus has asked me to," Stefan spat.
"No, you just failed to mention that the doppelganger's still alive," Rebekah explained.
"Where is Klaus now?" Stefan asked, not seeing Klaus around.
"With any luck, ripping that cow's bloody head off," Rebekah said, referring to Elena. The next thing she knew, Stefan rushed up to her and they both fell out of the truck.
"Where is she?" Stefan growled.
"You really do love her, don't you?" Rebekah looked at him sadly as she got up. She picked up a crowbar and pushed him against the truck. "Consider me jealous," Rebekah was about to stab him when Sakura intervened, "Really?"
"Back off Beks," Sakura stood between her and Stefan. Rebekah sped beside them and knocked Stefan out.
"I didn't stab him, happy?" Rebekah compromised.
"Good enough," Sakura sighed.
Damon stopped the car and they all got out. "Why are we stopping?" Katherine complained.
"I thought we might want to stretch our legs. I'm tired of driving. It's your turn," Damon held up the keys.
"Fine," Katherine reached for the keys and Damon threw them away, "Hey! I..."
"We're not going anywhere until you spill your guts," Damon stated. Leilani looked between them groggily and just leant on the car and watched.
"Fine," Katherine put her hand in her pocket and pulled out Elena's necklace, "Do you recognize this, hmm? A little birdy told me that Klaus wants to get his hands on it."
"Why would Klaus want Elena's necklace?" Damon asked.
"Does it matter? He wants it, and I have it. It's leverage, Damon. Always stay one step ahead of your enemy," Katherine explained.
"I'll keep that in mind," Damon nodded in agreement.
"But more importantly, when I stole the necklace from Bonnie, I found out something else... Something better," Katherine smiled and Leilani focused more, trying to pay attention.
"Oh, yeah? What's that?" Damon asked in disbelief.
"Are you willing to do whatever it takes to stop Klaus? No turning back?" Katherine wanted to be sure.
"I'm not turning back," Damon replied firmly.
Katherine looked to Leilani. She swallowed nervously and nodded. "Good. 'Cause this isn't going to win you any points at home," Katherine stated. Katherine walked to the trunk with Leilani and Damon behind her. She opened it to reveal an unconscious Jeremy. Leilani gasped, but didn't say anything.
"Jeremy? Really?" Damon was skeptical.
Stefan wakes up in Sakura's lap again. "What happened? Where are we?" he looked around the parking lot, "Where's Rebekah?"
"You don't want to know what's going on," Sakura sighed.
Stefan grabbed onto her arms, "Why aren't you doing anything? Why aren't you stopping them?"
"How? How much power do you think I have? I'm outnumbered, and I can't kill Klaus," she stated.
Damon and Leilani sat down on the hood of the car and gave Katherine their attention. "I'm listening," Damon said.
"What if I told you there was a way to kill Klaus? And not Dagger dead. Dead dead," Katherine smiled.
"I'd say you were desperate and lying. Or drunk. Or desperate, lying and drunk," Damon scoffed.
"Everything can be killed, what it takes varies though," Leilani stated. Damon looked at her with a raised eyebrow, wondering what she knew.
"Do you remember my friend Pearl?" Katherine asked.
"Vividly," Damon thought back to the woman that ran the apothecary and her daughter.
"Centuries ago, she told me about a vampire who knew how to kill Klaus. Then she wouldn't tell me any more," Katherine stated.
"Well, why not?" Damon chimed. Katherine didn't seem like she had any real information. Damon was starting to lose his patience.
"Because it was her leverage. She knew it was valuable information, and wouldn't share it with me," she explained.
"Well, this is all great... But she's dead," Damon pointed out.
"Which is why I never brought it up. Because she only ever told one other person," Katherine said, then stopped again.
"Who?" Damon dragged out the 'o.'
"Her daughter. Anna," Katherine answered.
"Also dead!" Damon rolled his eyes.
"Which brings us right back around to..." Katherine pointed at Jeremy who was starting to wake up.
"To me. Back around to me," Jeremy groaned.
"They're in the gym," Sakura said as she started to walk towards the school.
"Sakura..." Stefan trailed off as he caught up to her and kept her pace, "What's going on?"
"Nothing good," she sighed.
They walked into the gym together. "Stefan..." Elena spotted him instantly. She was sitting on the ground with her classmate Dana laying in her lap.
"Klaus," Stefan glared at him.
"Come to save your damsel, mate?" Klaus laughed.
"I came to ask for your forgiveness. And pledge my loyalty," Stefan swallowed nervously.
"Well, you broke that pledge once already," Klaus pointed out as he eyed him.
"Elena means nothing to me anymore. And whatever you ask of me... I will do," Stefan swore.
"Fair enough. Let's drink on it. Kill them. What are you waiting for? Kill them," Klaus said as he looked at Elena and Dana.
"No! Stefan, don't. He's not going to hurt me. He already said..." Klaus was instantly in front of Elena. He slapped her and she went falling to the floor. Stefan rushed over to Klaus with his fangs out.
"She means nothing to you? Your lies just keep piling up," Klaus sighed.
"Let her go! I'll do whatever you want, you have my word!" Stefan pleaded, his voice going screechy.
"Your word doesn't mean much. I lived by your word all summer, during which time I never had to resort to this..." Klaus stared into his eyes to compel him, "Stop fighting."
"Don't do this, don't do this," Stefan tried to fight it.
"I didn't want to. All I wanted was your allegiance. Now I'm going to have to take it," Klaus spat, disappointed in him.
"Don't...Don't..." Stefan was ready to break down.
"You will do exactly as I say when I say it. You will not run, you will not hide, you will simply just obey," Klaus compelled him.
"No! Stefan!" Elena yelled.
"Now kill them. Ripper," Klaus commanded.
Stefan rushed over to Dana with his fangs out and ripped into her throat to drink her blood.
"This isn't going to work," Jeremy stated, not wanting to go along with their plan. The were in a small room in a remote location.
Jeremy's cellphone vibrated and Katherine looked at it, "I think that your witchy girlfriend's worried that you've run away with your ghostly lover."
"Stop with the teeny bopper drama. Focus," Damon growled.
Jeremy focused on Anna and she appeared before him, "I'm not helping them."
"No, it's ok to help," he assured her.
"She doesn't want to help?" Leilani looked at her in wonder.
"She can see me," Anna pointed at her.
"I guess so," Jeremy frowned as he looked at Leilani, she should have been able to.
Katherine and Damon looked at each other, not able to see Anna. Damon looked at Leilani, she just smiled at him weakly.
"They're looking for a way to stop Klaus," Jeremy explained.
"I don't care. Katherine is not a friend to you. Neither of them are," Anna said, referring to Damon.
"I am," Leilani chimed in, "Right?"
"Yes Leilani, you're my friend," Jeremy assured her.
"What's she saying?" Damon asked, not wanting to be left hanging.
"Well, she doesn't want to help you," Jeremy sighed.
"My advice? If you want to make an omelet, you have to break a few eggs," Katherine whispered to Damon, egging him on.
Damon got close to Jeremy, "Jeremy, I just want you to know, it's nothing personal." He takes Jeremy by the head and smacks it against the table.
"Ow! What the hell?!" Jeremy yelped in pain.
"Damon!" Leilani complained. "Don't let her tell you what to do," Leilani glared at Katherine.
"Jeremy!" Anna called out to him.
"Anna, I know you can hear me. Tell us what you know. The sooner, the better for your little boyfriend here," Damon threatened Jeremy.
"They're looking for Mikael," Anna answered.
"Mikael!" Jeremy and Leilani said at the same time.
"You know, it's weird you can see her," Damon pointed out.
"Mikael. Is that his name?" Katherine asked hastily.
"Who's Mikael?" Damon scoffed.
"The vampire who hunts vampires. You don't want to wake him. He will kill all of you," Anna answered.
Leilani's mouth dropped open and eyes went wide. "What's she saying?" Damon looked between them, not liking Leilani's expression.
"Hello!" Katherine pressed.
"He's a vampire and a Hunter, and you guys would be idiots to wake him," Jeremy spat angrily, he turned back to Anna, "What do you mean, wake him?"
"It's time to go find the keys," Damon smiled.
"Mm-hmm," Katherine agreed.
"I have a bad feeling about this," Leilani nervously bit her lip.
Stefan is feeding on Chad, another classmate. "It's always nice to see a vampire in his true element. The species has become such a broody lot," Klaus laughed.
"No. You did this to him," Elena yelled. Elena turned to Sakura. "Sakura, do something," Elena pleaded.
Klaus nudged his head and Sakura walked up to him, "Sorry love, she's with me."
"Sakura!" Elena called out to her, "I know you're in there, somewhere."
Rebekah came bursting in and went straight to Elena, "Where is it?! Where's my necklace?"
"What are you talking about?" Klaus rolled his eyes, thinking his sister was just being dramatic again.
"She has my necklace. Look," Rebekah showed him a pictured of Elena on the phone.
"Well, well. More lies," Klaus sighed.
"Where...is it?" Rebekah hissed.
"I don't have it anymore," Elena touched the spot where the necklace normally was.
"You're lying!" Rebekah yelled. Rebekah bared her fangs and bit Elena.
Klaus rushed to tear Rebekah away from Elena, "Knock it off!"
"Make her tell me where it is, Nik!" Rebekah stomped her foot.
"Where's the necklace, sweetheart? Be honest," Klaus looked at Elena who was holding onto her neck.
"I'm telling the truth. Katherine stole it," Elena frowned. She looked to Sakura, still pleaded for her to do something.
"Katerina. Of course. Well, that's unfortunate. If we had the necklace it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we're doing this the hard way, let's put a clock on it, shall we?" Klaus suggested with a sly smile on his face. Klaus put twenty minutes on the scoreboard timer. A loud buzzer went off when it appeared. "20 minutes. If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then, I want you to feed again. Only this time, I want you to feed on Elena. You know you want to," Klaus said to Stefan.
"No, Klaus! Don't do this to him!" Elena screeched.
"No one leaves. If she tries to run, fracture her spine," Klaus compelled Stefan.
Sakura could sense someone else in the room. She looked up in the banisters and there he was, Darien was perched on one of the banisters looking down at them. He was watching, but staying hidden.
Rebekah glared at Elena before leaving with Klaus.
Jeremy was starting to fall asleep. "Don't fall asleep, Jer. You might have a concussion," Damon warned, sounding genuinely concerned.
"Let me see," Leilani took a look at his head. "I've seen Sakura do this. Curatio," Leilani held her hand up to his head and it glowed. "It's still there," Leilani sighed.
"But it hurts a lot less, thanks Leilani," Jeremy smiled.
"Oh, stop pouting. He took one for the team. Everyone back home will thank you once Klaus is dead," Katherine shook her head.
"Where's my phone?" Damon checked his pockets.
"Do you need to check in with Elena? Make sure it's ok you pummeled her little baby bro?" Katherine asked.
"You know you have it," Damon held his hand out, wanting it back.
"What can I say? I needed you present here and now," Katherine defended her actions.
"Katherine, phone, now," Damon said sternly, still holding his hand out. Katherine sighed and handed it over. "Bonnie's been texting me," Damon looked through it.
"What is it?" Jeremy asked, curious as to what Bonnie would text him about.
"It's Klaus," Damon swallowed.
"No turning back, Damon," Katherine warned him.
"Shut up, Katherine," Damon growled. Leilani walked up beside him to have a look.
"Hey, look at the big picture. The best shot at taking out Klaus is by finding Mikael," Katherine pointed out, trying to convince him to keep going.
Damon turned to Jeremy and gave him the keys, "Stay with her so Anna can guide you. I'm going back."
"You're going to get yourself killed. The Damon I remember wouldn't have been that stupid," Katherine poked at him.
"I wouldn't have done it for you," Damon smirked and Katherine's shocked expression.
"Damon," Leilani grabbed hold of his arm.
"I already know," Damon looked down at her seriously, knowing she would want to come.
"Really? You can't leave the witchy one with us?" Katherine complained.
"Stay safe Jer," Leilani grabbed his hand and left a charm in it. He nodded and stared at the arrowhead charm.
They stayed staring at the clock, with only six minutes left.
"Caroline's dad! Stefan, he was able to resist compulsion. I don't know how, but he did it. Maybe it's possible," Elena suggested.
"Yeah, yeah. Maybe it's just mind control, right? Maybe it just takes some focus, a couple decades of training. No big deal," Stefan sighed.
"Sakura, why aren't you helping?" Elena asked.
"Fenrir, remember?" Sakura pointed at herself, "I'm really just watching the show, I don't care what happens."
Stefan looked to her, knowing that some part of the real Sakura was still in there.
"Stefan, you can control this. When that buzzer goes off, just... just drink from me," Elena swallowed nervously.
"You don't get it. I can't stop, Elena! I'm a ripper! A ripper doesn't stop! I listen to the words that come out of your mouth, and all I hear is the sound of your heart pumping blood through your body. And when that clock ticks down... I'm going to have to feed on you. And you want to know what's worse? I'm not going to be able to stop," Stefan explained.
"I don't believe that. You can fight it. You just have to want it bad enough," Elena kept trying, despite his reluctance.
"This is getting old," Sakura sighed. "Maybe his love for you isn't strong enough," Sakura suggested.
"Elena, you're going to have run," Stefan said as the timer ticked down.
"But Klaus said that if I run..." Elena trailed off.
"I know what he said, but if you stay, it won't matter. Elena, please, please, please. There's no other way," he pleaded with her as the buzzer went off.
Stefan's fangs came out and he dashed towards her. Suddenly, he stopped. "Come on, at least run a bit. Make it more interesting," Sakura had her hand up, she was stopping Stefan from moving.
"Elena, run! Go! It isn't Sakura, it's Fenrir, she'll let me loose on purpose," Stefan explained.
Elena took off running into the school. "Has it been long enough?" Sakura pondered aloud.
"Don't, please don't let go," Stefan pleaded.
Something fell from up above them and Sakura looked up. "Woops," she accidentally let Stefan go. Darien was no longer there, it must have been him leaving that dropped something.
Sakura followed the noise and made her way over to the cafeteria, where she head Klaus yelling at Stefan to turn his humanity off. "What did you do?" Elena asked as Sakura entered.
"I fixed him. But I think a test is in order, don't you?" Klaus walked behind Elena, "Ripper... Perhaps you'd like a drink.. From the doppelganger's neck."
Sakura watched at Stefan bit Elena. Elena screamed and passed out. "Good," Klaus pulled out a vile and filed it with Elena's blood. "Take her to the hospital," Klaus said as he walked by Sakura, "It's all set up."
"So the doppelganger isn't the problem. Her blood is the solution," Rebekah shook her head as she stared at the hospital with Sakura and Klaus.
"Seems so," Klaus nodded, having used it on Tyler to turn him into a hybrid.
"How did you know?" Rebekah inquired.
"Well, you know how much the original witch hated me. Do you honestly think I would do anything other than the opposite of what she says?" Klaus shook his head and looked at Sakura, "You knew, didn't you?"
"Maybe," Sakura said nonchalantly.
"A thousand years in the grave and she's still screwing with you," Rebekah couldn't believe it.
"Well, it makes sense if you think about it from her perspective. It was her failsafe in case I ever broke the hybrid curse. The doppelganger had to die in order for me to become a hybrid, but if she was dead..." Klaus trailed off.
"Then you couldn't use her blood to sire yourself a new species," Rebekah said.
"Leaving me alone for all time," Klaus zoned out as he stared at the ground.
"Is that what this is about? Your obsession with hybrids. You just don't want to be alone?" Rebekah stood in front of him, mad.
"What I want is to take my girl, take my hybrid the hell out of this one pony town. You know, why don't you, uh, why don't you get the truck? I'll get Elena," Klaus commanded and Rebekah vanished. Damon popped up, "Well, look who finally decided to show up to the party"
"Where is she?" Damon growled.
"Elena? Ah, she's making a donation to a greater cause," Klaus smiled triumphantly. Damon walked by them, towards the hospital, "I'm afraid I can't let you interfere, mate."
"You'll have to kill me," Damon stated, challenging him.
"Oh, I would love to kill you, but I made a pledge to your brother, and unlike him, I keep my word. Although, you know what, thinking about it now, he probably doesn't care that much anymore," Klaus said thinking about Stefan's compulsion. "There is someone else that might have an issue with it though," Klaus glanced at Sakura, "Right love?"
"Yeah, I suggest you don't go after him. She kinda takes over, just a little," Sakura said and Damon stared, a mix of emotion evident on his face; desire, love, sadness.
"You don't want to know about your friend Mikael?" Damon turned to Klaus.
"What do you know about Mikael?" Klaus's expression changed completely. He was dead serious, but also afraid.
"Just that he knows you're here," Damon smiled.
"You're bluffing," Klaus didn't believe him.
"Katherine and I found him. Consider it our leverage," Damon smirked and Klaus vanished. "Sakura," he turned back to her.
"Don't you need to go get Elena?" she asked.
"I already have her," Darien said as he came out with Elena cradled in his arms, "You two talk." Darien walked by them.
"Take this," Damon set Elena's necklace on her, "I stole it back."
"Right, you were with Katherine," Darien frowned as he walked away.
"Darien!" Leilani ran up to him and looked at Elena sadly, "Let's take her to my house."
When they were both gone, Damon turned to Sakura, who was watching them walk away with a saddened expression. "Sakura?" Damon could feel something different from her, "It's you isn't it?"
"Has been since Stefan bit Elena," she replied, "But I don't know for how long." She turned to look at him and was surprised when he was instantly kissing her.
"I've missed you so much. It's so hard to keep going without you," Damon gasped as he pulled away.
"I don't know how long I have, but can we talk?" Sakura asked and he nodded, "Not here, at the boarding house."
"Yeah, sure, anything you want," Damon laced his hand through hers.
They walked into the boarding house together. "Anyone home?" Sakura asked, wanting to make sure.
"No, it's just us. Feel free to talk," Damon assured her.
"I have to admit, talking isn't exactly what I had planned," Sakura swallowed and turned to him. She pulled him into a kiss and pressed him up against the wall.
He kissed her before pulling back, "You only have a short amount of time, are you sure about this?"
Sakura rips his shirt open and kisses him again. "Of course, unless this isn't what you want?" she took a step away, "I've been gone for quite some time, I wouldn't blame you if you didn't want me anymore. There are others around, Elena, Leilani."
Instantly he turned the tables and she was pinned to the wall. "I want you more than anything. In a thousand years, a hundred lifetimes, I'd still want you. I've never felt like this before." Damon ripped her shirt open.
"You know I didn't have buttons or anything like that on that shirt, right?" Sakura laughed and smiled up at him, "I've missed you so much."
"I love you Sakura," Damon kissed her again.
"I love you too, Damon," Sakura wrapped her hands behind his head and pulled him closer, kissing him. His hands moved down her waist to her thighs and he wrapped her legs around him. He wrapped his arms around her and they kissed as they slowly made their way upstairs, running into everything in the process. The bumped into the bookcase and several books fell to the ground. They heard a vase smash, but just kept going. They made it to Damon's room. He slammed the door behind them and them tumbled onto bed together.
Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed! Got to write that scene, can't you guess which one it is? ;)
