Chapter 50: Hit by a Speeder

This was requested by a guest.

Ezra was shopping for the crew, because they were out of supplies... again. He was tired of shopping. It was nerve-wracking. There were too many people who could recognize him. He finally saw the very last item on their list: a first aid kit. He was excited; he had been looking for this for several hours. Ezra ran across the street without looking, and it happened too fast. A speeder hit Ezra, and Ezra flew down the street. Nobody was around, because it was late. The speeder sped up to get away from Ezra.

Ezra's whole body ached, and every breath shot pain through his body. He tried to call Hera through his commlink, but it was broken from the fall. He didn't know what to do. Kanan was off planet, and Ezra had no clue when he was getting back. Ezra tried to fight back his sobs. However, he failed. Panic settled into his stomach, and Ezra couldn't breathe. Ezra saw the sun setting, and he started to sob. He was going to die out here. Nobody would know what happened to him, and he was completely alone. Ezra's heart hammered, and pain shot through his whole body.

"Ezra," Kanan said through their mind link. Ezra felt relief wash over him. Kanan was back on planet again. Ezra wouldn't be alone. "Ezra, hold one. For me. I'm almost there." Ezra fought to stay conscious. Kanan wanted him to, so he would. "Ezra," Kanan said, "I'm here. You're okay." Kanan's worried face came into Ezra's darkening vision. Ezra weakly lifted up his hand, and he clutched onto Kanan's shirt for dear life. "I'm going to carry you to the Ghost, okay?" Kanan picked Ezra up as gently as he could, but it still sent agony racing through Ezra's body. Kanan knew they would never make it to the Ghost, so Kanan took him to the doctor's office he passed. He knew it was a risk. The doctor was more than likely an Imperial, but he needed someone to treat Ezra.

"You're rebels," the doctor said, as Kanan entered the office. Kanan sighed. He wasn't sure both of them would make it back to the Ghost. The doctor would most likely turn them in. He would do everything to keep Ezra out of an Imperial prison.

"Please, help him. He was hit by a speeder," Kanan said.

The doctor sighed before saying, "I'll treat him first, but I will be reporting the two of you." The doctor gently took Ezra from Kanan, and he looked concerned at the condition Ezra was in. He entered a door towards the back of the office, and he placed Ezra in a bacta tank. Ezra was in the bacta tank for six hours before he was stable enough to be taken out. "His ribs are still broken, but they will have to heal on their own." The doctor left with the intention of reporting the two rebels to the Imperials, but he paused when he heard the young rebel stir.

"K-Kanan?" the young rebel asked. The doctor hesitated. The young rebel sounded so much like a child. Could he really send a child to the Imperials? The doctor knew that as an Imperial citizen he should report them, but as a father, would he want someone to report his child?

"I'm here, Ezra," Kanan said, leaning over Ezra's head, so he could see him.

"I hurt."

"I know, but you need to be strong for a little longer. The doctor left to call the Imperials. I'll help you out the window, and then I'll stay to distract them. Get to the Ghost," Kanan said. The doctor was shocked. He never seen a Rebel risk his own freedom for another. They would try to escape together, or they would go to prison together.

"I'm not leaving you," Ezra said.

"The Imperials will torture you, and I don't want you to be hurt ever, but you won't make it with the condition you're already in," Kanan said. Torture? The Imperials would torture a child? That broke him. He wouldn't call the Imperials on these two.

The doctor entered at that moment. Kanan jumped up and stood protectively between Ezra and the doctor, glaring at the doctor. "I have not called the Imperials, and I won't be able to for another hour. So stay put." He left them then, smiling. He didn't have to know they were rebels every time.

"Let's go together," Ezra said, with a small smile. Kanan picked him up gently, and he snuck out of the office through the back door. He started running towards the Ghost. THe doctor watched with a smile as the two rebels ran off the their ship.
