A/N I'm sorry that I kept y'all waiting so long for the next chapter. My muse wouldn't let me write the next chapter. Finally it's here now.
This is gonna be a roller coaster of emotions...
Chapter 40
The moment Prof. Taymar walks into Olivia's room and sees the look in Alex's eyes he knows he is in trouble. Big trouble. He was never at the receiving end of Alex's wrath but the Prof. has a feeling that he would be today.
"How the hell could you miss this?" Alex asks with a cold voice.
The blonde is desperately trying to keep her anger under control.
"Mrs. Benson, it's not unusual for this to happen..." Prof. Taymar starts to answer.
"Not unusual to happen?! Are you crazy?! You do know what happened don't you?" Alex almost yells.
"Yes Mrs. Benson, your wife is in the OR due to an epidural hematoma." Prof. Taymar answers softly.
"That's right! A stroke that maybe could have been prevented if you had done your job properly! So I ask you again. How the hell could you miss this?" Alex asks, trembling of anger.
"I'm afraid that I don't understand what you mean. Clearly your not talking about the epidural hematoma itself." Prof. Taymar says cringing.
"I'm talking about the fact that my wife was pregnant! Yes, you hear that right. Was, she had a miscarriage. They don't know if it was before or after she fell. So it's possible that the miscarriage cost the epidural hematoma! And you missed it!" Alex says, trying to control herself and not hit the Prof.
Prof. Taymar's eyes widened from shock. He didn't know that Olivia was pregnant.
"Mrs. Benson I assure you I didn't know. If I'd knew I never would have given Detective Benson this treatment. I don't understand how it is possible. The test we took was negative. I let them do it twice to be sure. Detective Benson wasn't pregnant." Prof. Taymar says shocked.
"Well, I suggest that you ge to the bottom of this to find it out! Because I have proof that she was pregnant! Abby, show him the test." Alex growls.
Abby walks to the Prof. and shows him the test. It clearly says that Olivia was pregnant. Prof. Taymar looks like he'd seen a ghost. And he certainly is afraid of what Alex will do if it turns out that something went wrong with the test they took at the center.
"Now do you believe me? Find out who screwed it up! And let me know it when you know it. I can tell you this if it turns out it wasn't a mistake, the person accountable for this will never work in health care again when I'm done with them!" Alex says.
"I understand it Ma'am. I will find out who is responsible for this." Prof. Taymar answers.
By now the Prof. doesn't dare to look at Alex anymore. The blonde ADA's eyes are spitting fire now.
"If it turns out that my wife's miscarriage cost the epidural hematoma you are in big trouble I can assure you that. Because no matter what you say, YOU are responsible for this! You are my wife's Prof. you are the one that treats her. Not some lab rat or nurse or whom ever you come up with. Now get out!" Alex barks.
Prof. Taymar almost runs out of Olivia's room. Glad he is still alive. And afraid what's gonna happen if Alex is right. He really doesn't want to know right now what the blonde attorney does than. It was silent in Olivia's room after Alex's outburst. Nobody knows what to say and don't want to say the wrong thing afraid Alex will turn to them. On the other hand they understand that she needs a few minutes to calm down again. They know that besides being furious Alex is also shocked and scared. Scared of how Olivia will be when she wakes up, if she will wake up. Alex walks to the chair next to Olivia's bed and takes a seat. Forcing herself to calm down. After a few minutes Alex has calmed down to the point that she has herself under control again. Alex looks at Abby and Casey.
"Do you think he's afraid now?" Alex asks.
"Afraid? Gal, the man practically ran outside this room. He's scared as hell. Ya showed him a piece of Alexandra Benson-Cabot and he don't wanna know the rest of ya. Ya did what ya had to do. Defending your wife when she couldn't do it herself." Abby smiles.
"I doubt he will walk in this room without thinking again. I know one thing for sure, he will go trough every possibility to find out what happened. And then come back with weakened knees to tell you what he found." Casey says.
"Yeah, well he better find it out because if I have to look into it myself I will have his ass." Alex says.
Abby and Casey can't help it and laugh out loud.
"Gal, ya already have his ass. He is afraid ya will take the rest of him too." Abby laughs.
"Abs, can you go find Angie for me? I don't want to leave Liv's room in case they have some news on Liv." Alex asks softly.
"Sure honey. Don't worry too much, everything will be alright, Liv will be alright. She is a fighter and I've never met anyone else as stubborn as she is. She won't leave ya. Have faith in her. I'm gonna look for Angie and bring her back with me." Abby answers.
"Thank you, Abs." Alex says.
Abby walks out of the room and goes looking for Angie.
"Casey do you really think Liv will be alright?" Alex asks softly and scared.
Casey walks to the blonde ADA and pulls her into a hug.
"I'm sure she will. She may need to fight hard for it but it's Badass Benson we're talking about here. Liv won't rest before she gets what she wants. She is just to damn stubborn and hard headed for that. She loves you Alex, she worships the ground you're walking on. There is nothing she won't do for you. She wants to be with you no matter what she needs to do for it. As long as you are by her side she will face and over come every obstacle on the road." Casey answers encouragingly.
"I shouldn't have left her alone. We shouldn't have left. None of this would have happened if I had stayed. It's not Abby's fault. I know she blames herself but Olivia would never had let her go with her into the bathroom. How is it possible that they didn't know Liv was pregnant? I don't get it Casey. How could they not have known. My wife can die on that table all by herself and if that happens I won't be there with her." Alex almost whispers.
Kicking Prof. Taymar's ass cost all the strength Alex had left and the reality hits the blonde attorney hard. She burst out in tears and breaks down in Casey's arms. The younger ADA just holds her friend in her arms and let her cry. Knowing that Alex needs this, needs to let it go. Casey softly speaks to Alex, calming words of encouragement. They sit like this for about 10 minutes when Alex calms down a bit. She is still crying but softly now.
"I'm sorry Casey." Alex mumbles.
"There's nothing to be sorry for Alex. You just heard that your wife had a stroke and a miscarriage and find out that she was pregnant by her rapist. There's only so much a person can take. You're a human being Alex. It's normal that taking all this in is too much." Casey softly says.
There's a knock on the door and Abby and Angie walk inside.
"I'm sorry, I can come back later." Angie says as she sees Alex and Casey.
Alex straightens up a bit but stays in Casey's arms.
"No that's not necessary, Angie. Did you find something out about Liv?" Alex asks.
"She's still in surgery, but she made it through the first hour. There is nothing else to say at this point. We need to wait until she's out of surgery. We'll know how she's doing when she wakes up and what the scans will tell us. But at this moment I don't know if she will wake up or not. We'll have to wait till the surgeon that's doing the surgery on Liv comes here. I'm sorry that I don't have better news or more information to tell you." Angie answers.
"She's still alive. That is what's important to me right now. I just want her back here with me. I want my wife back." Alex softly says as she starts crying again.
A/N 2 I just wanted this to be about Alex. All of this affects both of our gals. And they are both only human.
