Chapter 55
"We're not strong enough to hold the shield," Bella shouted looking at Evie. Every time she closed a hole, a new one opened up. It was frustrating not being able to control the damn thing. "If we had years or centuries this would be a piece of cake." She gritted her teeth as she continued to keep the shield in place.
"I know," Evie replied. She didn't see any other way to keep the shield up without it completely fall around them. "There's no way to encase them either or at least not for long. We would still end up in the same situation." She backed up keeping her hands in front of her. "We weren't prepared to absorb this much power at once."
Paul watched as the shield shimmered and shook. He could hear the growls from the Pack and knew he needed to phase but he couldn't leave Evie's side. She was willingly risking her life for all of them.
"Could you do them separately?" Leah asked. She looked around.
"The shield has taken to many hits," Bella answered. She was thinking the same thing. "It might not last long if only one of us tries."
"Not to mention Renata would deflect it," Rosalie pointed out. "At least were Aro is concerned." Renata was behind Aro watching Evie and Bella.
Embry walked up to Leah and gave her a kiss. The look they gave each other spoke volumes. He touched his forehead to hers and closed his eyes. It shocked him for a split second to see the tiny little life forming before him. He opened his eyes with a new purpose and kissed Leah again knowing he needed to fight for their future.
Evie looked over her shoulder. "Go Paul," she said trying to keep her voice calm. "They need you." She noticed the apprehension in her voice and knew he heard it too.
Paul wanted nothing more than to grab Evie and run but he knew it wasn't an option. He stared into her beautiful eyes and mouthed, 'I love you' before turning and phasing.
"Plan B?" Leah asked keeping close to Bella. She watched the wolves move into position to protect them.
"More like plan D," Evie mumbled. She moved next to Leah and Bella but stayed closer to Rosalie. Her inner shield was itching to use the powers moving through her body. It was almost painful.
Bella heard Evie in her head. "It won't hold for long," she stated leaning on Leah. She gave Evie a knowing look.
"True, but it's our best option," Evie responded. She tried to figure out the best way to get the shield in the right spot to execute her plan. "We still have the element of surprise." She tapped her phone.
Aro watched Evie as the young one's eyes roamed over them before looking at the wolves behind her. She was a smart girl, smarter than he gave her credit. Most humans were easily manipulated but Evie and Bella were different. He motioned for Renata to move her shield forward. He wanted to hear them but their shield was blocking him.
"We haven't heard back from Nicholas," Jane informed Aro. "It seemed we are also having difficulty reaching Kevin and Anthony too." They should have acquired Evie's father and headed back to the plane. She watched Evie and Bella but couldn't hear them. Their shield was still proving to be a problem.
"Felix hasn't checked in either, Master," Alec said as he approached Aro. "Shall I take a few men and head back to the plane?" He doubted Jasper got by Felix but it wasn't something he could be sure of. Jasper had a way of using his ability to get what he wanted.
"No," Aro began as he watched the girls. "We need Derek in order to take Evie. She is proving to be smarter than originally thought." He hated the unknown.
Bella listened as Aro talked to Alec. She knew Evie could hear them as well. The anger she felt building up in her cousin scared her.
Aro gestured to three guards standing a few feet back. "Go with Alec." He grabbed Alec's arm before he could walk away. "Do not return without Derek. It's been a trying day and I won't tolerate another failure." He was quickly losing patience.
"Rosalie and I will go," Bella stated as she reached for Rosalie. "You can do more here."
"Yes, Master," Alec responded. He gestured for the three guards to follow him. They would not fail.
"Jacob," Evie called as she glared at Aro. She couldn't allow them to take her dad.
"What's wrong?" Jacob asked as she stood next to Evie in his wolf form. He glanced at Bella knowing he wasn't going to like what he heard.
Paul and Embry moved closer but stopped when Leah waved them back. They flanked the small group. Evie's voice filled their head.
"Aro is sending four more guards to La Push to get my dad," Evie cried out. She began to tremble but took deep breaths to calm herself. She heard the growl Embry released at the mention of their dad. They would protect their dad and destroy anyone who got in their way.
Bella ran her hands over Jacob's fur. "I need to help save Derek," she said leaning her forehead against him. "We have to protect our families but if they take Derek it will kill Evie and Embry." She knew he understood as he gave a quick puff of breath hit her shoulder. "Besides Evie is stronger and will protect the Pack."
"I will protect her with my life," Rosalie added as she watched Jacob and Bella.
"Seth will go with you," Jacob ordered. He watched the sandy wolf move forward. "I don't like this." They didn't plan on Bella and Evie splitting up.
Bella hugged him. "I know," she whispered. She held on to him making sure he felt all the love she had for him. They wouldn't be a part for long. She wasn't about to let that happen.
"I'll collapse the shield over them giving Bella, Rosalie and Seth time to get away," Evie explained to everyone. "Go right for three hundred yards and then turn left. It will be a straight line to La Push." The glimpse she was able to see, showed them arriving just in time.
Rosalie picked up Bella and stood behind Evie. Seth was right behind her ready to move. They each prepared themselves for what could be a battle fought with only them. It gave them inner strength knowing they had each other.
Evie moved the shield inward. It was like a rubber band snapping back. She stepped back when the power of the shield hit her. The sensation took her breath away before it began to cloud her mind. The feeling of pure terror made her yell as her hands shoot out in front of her. The shield surrounded the guards with a crashing sound as it covered them in darkness.
"Go," Bella yelled. She held on to Rosalie as Seth moved in front of them. She looked back to see Jacob standing next to Evie. The dark shield gave them coverage. Aro won't be able to sense them.
Screaming could be head from inside the shield. Evie concentrated on keeping them covered. "Leah, you got my back?" she asked as she pushed Jane's power out of her hands and began to move it through the shield.
"Of course," Leah replied. She was standing next to Evie. She could see Jacob moving his head as he gave orders to the Pack.
"Good you're my eyes," Evie shouted. "Put your hand on my hip. If one of those Guards gets too close, point your hand at them." She could feel the fire moving through her but it wouldn't come to the surface.
"How will pointing my hand at the leeches help?" Leah questioned looking at her hands.
Evie felt bad ruining a moment for Leah and Embry but it had to be done. "You're pregnant," she announced looking over her shoulder at a shocked Leah. "It's the reason you haven't felt the urge to phase. Your wolf is dormant at the moment. I'm sorry."
"How long have you known?" Leah angrily snapped. She couldn't believe Evie would keep something like this from her.
"Not long," Evie confessed. She could hear Leah swearing in her head. "I had a vision but I didn't want to ruin it for you guys." She did feel horrible but she needed Leah to know in order to help. "You're only a couple of weeks and none of the wolves could detect it. The baby has my ability or something close to it." She concentrated on the shield but knew there time was almost up.
The shield began to crumble as vampires began to fall to the ground and leap away from it. Black smoke began to fill the air but it lingered around the vampires. Aro moved through it with ease. Renata kept them protected.
Leah placed a hand on her stomach and smiled but quickly glared when Aro looked their way. "You're not off the hook McIntyre," she grumbled as she placed her hand on Evie's hip.
Paul and Embry moved to stand on either side of Leah and Evie. Embry gave Evie a low growl. When she shrugged her shoulders, he shook his head. Leave it to her sister to keep the best news to herself. A loud growl filled the air as each Pack member moved to stand together. Jacob stood in front as the vampires began to drop to the ground. He turned when Evie touched him. He nodded knowing once they began to fight her shield would only protect her and Leah.
"Nice shield," Aro said with a smile. "It seems your shield is a bit more powerful than my own." He glanced at Renata. She didn't look pleased.
"There's quite a bit more you don't know," Evie said with a smile of her own.
"How many are left?" Paul asked watching a few leeches crumple to ash.
"Twenty-seven," Evie answered tilting her head, "correction twenty-one." She knew they looked fierce with nine wolves standing tall and ready to attack.
Aro moved forward with his arms out at his side. "Last chance to surrender," he quietly stated as he looked at each wolf.
Jane and Chelsea were on the ground fighting for air they didn't need. The smoke cut off all their senses. It made them feel as if they were suffocating.
"You first," Evie said as she calculated her first attack. "I promise not to kill your guards." At least not all of them, the wolves will take out the rest, she thought.
Aro continued to look at the wolves as he let Evie's words roll through his head. He looked at the beautiful Quileute girl in front of him. Her tan and flawless skin was quite breathtaking. He took a deep breath and smirked. She was with child and not any child but a wolf child. "She'll make an interesting pet." Thunderous growls filled the air and shook the ground. The Pack made their outrage known at Aro's comment.
"That was the dumbest thing to say in front of a vicious Pack of wolves. They will do anything to defend those they love along with their land," Evie responded with a slight shake of her head. She could sense the shield was a few seconds away from collapsing on its self. "Now," she shouted.
The Pack moved forward as a few vampires turned to fight. It was loud and chaotic as leeches collided with wolves. Evie kept her eyes on Aro but his moves weren't blinding fast which shocked her. It was as if she could see every move he made and threw a wall blocking him from moving towards her.
Rosalie was the first to spot Emily standing next to her imprint Sam's truck. The tire was flat. "What the hell are they doing out here alone?" she hissed.
Bella couldn't see a thing but she did hear Seth give a low growl. "What's going on Rose?" she asked trying to keep her voice calm. Her shield moved around them.
"Their safe Seth," Bella quickly stated. She needed to keep him calm and not alert Jared or Sam. "We'll get them to Nana's first. You and the others can talk to them later." She took a deep breath as Rose helped her into the truck.
Rosalie didn't waste time and quickly fixed the flat tire within seconds. She got into the driver's seat. "Seth, hop in the back. Everyone else put your seatbelts on," she huffed.
"Where's Sam?" Emily asked but quickly moved as far back as she could in the truck. Rosalie stared at her with anger in her eyes. "Kim forgot her phone at my house and we went back to get it but got a flat tire heading to Nana's," she quickly explained. She winced when Seth growled in disapproval.
"Seth, we're safe," Gina stated with her arms crossed. She glanced at him through the open window at the back of the truck. It wasn't anything new for the imprints. The wolves worried about them but they weren't completely helpless.
Seth let out a heavy breath as he shook his head. "Tell her Bella," he said angrily. "They have no idea how close our Pack came to losing more than just three lives." He cleared his mind to keep his Brothers from knowing the girls weren't at Nana's. His Pack Brother's thoughts and voices were fuzzy and blurred. The meadow wasn't that far but something was definitely blocking them.
"The Volturi Guards attacked Nana's house," Bella began. "Emmett went to help Collin, Gavin, Drew and Michael. We haven't been able to reach them." She patted Emily's hand as she bent her head down. Kim held Gina as tears began to fall from both their eyes.
"There are more Guards heading here and you three decide to go and get a damn phone," Rosalie snapped. "Seth, do you hear Collin or any of the others?" In the pit of her stomach she knew Emmett was okay but she worried about the others.
Seth called out to Collin and was relieved to finally hear from his Brother. Gavin, Drew and Michael chimed with their tales of taking down leeches. They each showed what happen at the house and meadow.
"Oh, thank God," Bella gasped with a hand to her chest. She looked at Rosalie. "Everyone is fine. They were able to fend off three vampires." A look of relief crossed Rosalie's face. "Jasper is with them. He killed Felix headed straight to Nana's. Knowing Aro would send guards to take Derek, he was able to pick up their scent easily. They were after Derek." She turned to look out the window. Nana's house was in sight but it made her on edge.
"Seth, stay alert," Rosalie ordered. "They should have reached this place before us unless they picked up the scent of the wolves." She pulled up the drive way and smiled when Emmett walked out the door.
"They're here," Bella yelled. She threw a shield around the truck as Emily held on to her.
A dark figure dropped a few inches away from truck. Seth jumped off the back of the truck and charged after the dark haired figure. He snapped his jaws narrowly missing the guys back legs but was able to swing his lower half to hit the leech in the chest.
"They are in the damn trees," Rosalie said through clenched teeth. She pushed the gas pedal down and headed straight to the house. The wolves passed the truck with a thunderous growl that shook the truck.
The wolves began to slowing circle around the vampire. He gave the wolves a smile as he stood assessing the young ones. They were strong but young and quick to make mistakes. Taking them down would be easy. He spent centuries fighting while these young ones were new to the supernatural world and didn't stand a chance against them. Aro would be pleased to finally have the humans he wanted to acquire along with a pack of mutts to do as he wished.
The sound of something hitting the shield shook the truck. Rosalie was able to get to the house as Jasper and Emmett ran past them. She only caught of glimpse of Emmett before focusing on getting the girls in the house.
Emmett and Jasper had their hands full with the dark haired vampire. He seemed to guess their moves a split second before they moved. Emmett hit Jasper on the arm and smirked. It brought back memories of fighting Edward but not quite. Jasper glanced behind him to see the truck heading towards the house.
"He can't read our minds but he has a slight intuition which allows him to block our moves," Jasper stated as he moved through the air and caught the dark haired vampire by surprise. "Not to mention he is easily distracted." He wondered where Aro gathered these Guards. He didn't recognize the guys.
Emmett landed a punch sending the vampire into a tall tree causing it to crack. "I see what you mean," he said with a booming laugh.
Kim and Gina were holding onto each other as they screamed with each rock of the truck. They kept their eyes closed not wanting to see the red of the vampires eyes. It was the closest they had been to a fight. The truck gave one finally shake before it stopped.
Carlisle and Charlie approached the truck as Bella pulled back the shield. "Get the girls inside," Carlisle ordered. He was crouched ready to fight.
Rosalie carried Bella into the house while Charlie rushed the other three girls in the house. "Aro sent Alec along with three guards. They are after Derek," she said placing Bella on a chair. She knew Emmett and Jasper could hear her.
Bella moved her shield around the house. "Two jumped down from the trees," she said. Her voice slightly shook but she tried to remain calm. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Maybe she could feel where Alec was hiding along with the other vampire.
Derek kneeled next to his father trying to help the best he could but he kept thinking of his kids. They were out there risking their lives to save everyone else's. He felt angry and helpless at the same time. The feeling of defeat at being unable to help weighed heavy on him.
Charlie stayed close to his daughter. Billy was on the other side of Bella waiting for her to open her eyes. They were both concerned not only for her and the Pack but the babies as well. If something happen to them it would affect the entire Pack and Reservation. They were the future of the Tribe along with the next Pack if needed.
Valisa held a distraught Kim. "Come on sweetie, take a deep breath while Sue checks you," she walked Kim over to one of the chairs and pulled the girl's hair back. "That's it just relax, you're safe."
"Emily, everything will be fine," Esme quietly held the young girl's hand as Marshall continued to check Emily.
"We went back to get my phone," Gina cried taking a seat next to Emily.
Beth handed out blankets to help warm them up. They seemed to be in shock. Kim only nodded as she took the blanket from her. Beth began to wonder about Quil. She took a deep breath and tried to stay positive. He knew what he was doing. The Pack was strong.
"No!" Bella screamed as her eyes flew open. Charlie and Billy both reached for her hands. "Alec and Alfonso has Michael….no please don't hurt him." She tried to get up but felt too weak to stand.
Rosalie looked out the window. "I see the wolf on the ground, he isn't moving," she said as she opened the door. Alec appeared a few feet away from the front steps.
"Give the man and Bella," Alec stated with a devilish smile. "Or the pathetic wolf will die." He motioned for Alfonso to lift the head of the wolf. His body was limp in the powerful vampires grasp.
Derek moved around Rosalie to face the vampire. He was shocked to see a young boy making such a threat. The blood red eyes told him this boy was not innocent but a dangerous predator that killed people to survive. "You can take me," he said.
"No Derek," Valisa cried out. She was not going to sacrifice her only son.
"Derek, you can't," Marshall yelled as he got up. His grandchildren were already putting their lives in danger. These monsters were trying to take his family away.
"Mom, Dad," Derek calmly said without turning around. "This thing can take me but it won't do any good. Evie won't risk everyone's lives to save mine. There are other lives she needs to protect." He walked across the threshold but stayed under the shield.
Rosalie placed her hand on the small of Derek's back. There was no way she was going to let Alec take him. She noticed Michael began to slide back without Alfonso noticing. She caught the blur of sandy fur as it skidded to a stop with and an arm in its mouth.
Alec turned as Alfonso screamed. The smell of smoke and the sight of fallen Volturi guards as they were dismantled caused him to shake in terror. He didn't see Jasper or Emmett until it was too late. He tried to use his power but felt nothing. Not even when his head was being twisted.
Bella moved from the couch to door. She had her hands out in front of her. She closed her eyes as fire shot out of her hands. It was the last thing Alec would ever see.
Derek saw Seth leaping in the air before Rosalie pulled him back. In almost a blur Bella was at the door. He collapsed in his parents arms shaking as dread filled him for the safety of his children.
"Brady move back and attack from the side," Jacob ordered. He moved along taking down a vamp before helping Brady. There weren't as many as before since the majority of them were killed in the shield but there were still enough to keep them busy.
Jared twisted in the air avoiding two male leeches trying to corner him. He crouched low baring his teeth with a growl. The fur on the back of his head stood up. Instinct took over as he quickly moved back avoiding a female leech from landing on his head. She growled in frustration but it rapidly turned into a scream as Edgar took her down. Sam and Quil took down the two male leeches.
Paul and Embry stood close to Leah and Evie protecting them from any leech that got too close. Elijah took down a bloodsucker as he dived towards Evie. Edgar helped dismember leeches and toss their body parts over their head. The four wolves worked efficiently but it soon became apparent the vamps were trying to figure out their fighting pattern.
Sam leaped in the air and tore off the arm of a huge Guard who landed on the ground. He yelled in Italian holding his shoulder. "I see two jumping from tree to tree," he said before leaping towards the man. The Guard kicked him in the chest. The wolf was angry as he shook his black fur and bared his teeth.
Elijah cried out in pain as Jane used her power on him. She tried to inflict as much pain as possible but staggered when her robes caught on fire. She glared at Evie making the silver wolf growl at her. She smirked knowing he was one of Evie's favorite. Her smirk turned into a grin as she clouded her mind from Evie. A plan was taking shape and she wanted the element of surprise.
"Embry a vamp to the left is making a move toward Quil," Leah shouted as she tried to aim the fire coming out of her hands. At first she was shocked to see fire shoot out of her hand but it didn't take long to realize it was a powerful weapon to protect the Pack. She continued to try and keep the vampire away from Quil by distracting him.
Paul made a move towards the vampire causing the leech to take his eyes off Quil. Embry used Leah's distraction to land on the leech and began tearing him apart. Paul joined in but was thrown in the air by a dark cloak figure. They faced off dancing around as they each tried to get the upper hand.
"You can't defeat me girl," Aro laughed as he watched Evie's precious wolf whimper in pain.
Evie watched as the vampire tried to squeeze Paul but Sam was able to bite off the vampire's hand. "And neither can you," she shouted in his head loudly. Aro grabbed his head and fell to one knee. She pulled Jane's power forward and aimed at Aro. Renata moved in front of him making the power bounce in different directions.
"We need to get rid of her," Leah said in a frustrated voice. "Plus the little blonde, she's one twisted bitch." She smiled knowing Jane heard her.
"I know," Evie replied. She was trying to think of something to take them both down.
"Maybe you should just fry the bitch," Leah said through clenched teeth. She kept her eye on Chelsea. The woman was on the ground with stubs for legs. Half her right arm was missing.
"I can't get pass Renata," Evie responded. They were all in the same boat. Neither one was able to get pass the other's shield. "But the moment I do, Jane is going down." She was the first one that needed to go.
Jane continued to work at breaking through the shield surrounding Evie but the damn thing was a part of her, making it difficult to slip between the shield and the human. Each time she tried to attack one of the dogs; the human girl ruined her plan. She didn't understand how Evie was able to cut her off when her vampire speed shouldn't be tracked by a human. She smiled when she saw a clear path to destroy those mutts and pathetic human with one blow.
The small meadow was slowly filling with body parts. Screams and vicious growls surrounded them all. The ground shook as vampires and wolves hit the ground. Guards were moving but unable to get the upper hand against the wolves while still trying to protect their Master. They weren't prepared to fight such a well-organized group. Most of their battles were against covens only willing to protect themselves not others.
They fought against Children of the Moon on many occasions due to Caius's fear of almost dying at the hands of one. But shape shifters were different. Their style of fighting was well orchestrated with leadership unlike they have ever seen. The Alpha seemed to order his Pack without voicing a command.
Evie tried her best to keep the vampires from taking down any of the wolves. She tried not to linger on the violence before her. The wolves were a fierce bunch of fighters but it still didn't keep her from worrying. Aro was still trying to get close to them but it wasn't just to take her, no he wanted Leah too. Picking up on the fact she was a pregnant shape shifter with another shape shifters child gave him ideas on how to control the Pack.
"Keep an eye on Jane," Evie shouted to the wolves. "The little witch finally left Aro's side. That can't be good." She set a guard on fire in front of Aro. The blond guard tried to run towards her but she used Alec's numbing power. He dropped on the ground lying perfectly still.
"Renata dear," Aro began as he watched his Guards. "Stay close. I believe our young friend is trying to separate us." He nodded at Evie.
"There are two behind the head vamp," Jacob said to his Pack. "Paul and Sam move through the trees and sneak up behind them. Evie distract the fucker with a blast of fire." He noticed Evie nod as he headed straight towards the vamp and his body guard.
Evie watched Paul and Sam. They were almost in position. Aro had a surprised look on his face. He wasn't expecting Jacob to charge him. One of the vampires tried to move in front of Aro but Paul dragged him back by his leg. Evie shot fire from her left hand while continuing to try and get around Renata's shield.
Jacob leaped over Aro as Sam's jaw clamped down on the other leech and tore his arm off. Between Jacob and Sam they quickly dismantled the vampire and flung his body parts over Aro's head. Paul tossed what was left of the leech towards Jacob and Sam. He stood guard as they finished off the bloodsucker.
Renata moved Aro away from the wolves and tried to find Jane. With the Guard's gift they would keep their Master safe but she couldn't locate Jane. Most of the guards were gone. The human girl had destroyed most of them with her shield. The Volturi never failed to overcome their losses and defeat their enemy. As she looked at the fallen Volturi Guard's body parts littered around, some trying to find their bodies to reconnect, she feared they finally met their match.
Edgar and Elijah began to set small fires to burn the limbs. Brady threw body parts into the small fires. Quil, Jared and Embry took down the guards quickly and tossed body parts over their heads. They knew their Pack Brothers would burn the parts as they watched their backs.
"Behind you Jared," Quil called out as he moved to help his Brother.
Embry crouched low as a strong scent filled his nostrils. A leech was in the trees. He moved low through the trees knowing it wouldn't take long before the vamp was within his reach. "Quil, there's one in the tree," he said keeping low.
Brady grabbed as many body parts as he could while keeping an eye on any vamps that might get too close. He tossed them into the fire and made sure the parts didn't try to reconnect.
"Have you heard from Collin or any of the other guys?" Paul asked as he dragged a torso to one of the fires. He was beginning to seriously worry about his Brothers.
Jacob looked around. "I still can't reach the Pack in La Push. It's just dead silence." he answered. There was something off about the way they took out most of the guards. Panic was setting in but he needed to focus.
Aro smiled as he watched Jane move through the trees heading straight towards her target. The brown wolf didn't detect Jane until it was too late. Jane jumped on his back as he withered in pain on the ground.
Leah felt Embry's pain as she fell to her knees. She gripped Evie's hip hard before crying out and holding her stomach. The pain seemed to intensify.
The Pack stopped moving as they all felt their Brother's pain. It wasn't like anything they felt before. They were torn from watching their Brother and Leah on the ground.
"Seems we have reached an impasse, so to speak," Aro smiled. He stood a foot away from Evie.
"Impasse implies we haven't reached an agreement," Evie replied. "But unfortunately for you, we have." She shot fire at Jane and encased her right arm. Before she could encase Jane entirely in fire she was flying through the air. Renata's shield blocked her.
After Evie landed with a hard jolt throughout her body, it was chaos. The wolves and remaining vampires were fighting with enough rage the surrounding trees began to crumple and burn. Aro was shocked to see his beloved guards fall helpless to the wolves' razor sharp teeth and brutal paws. He wrapped his cloak around his body and followed Renata away from the fight.
Evie rolled to her side and gritted her teeth as she watched Aro try to leave. She yelled as pain shot through her arm as the fire in her hand burned the trees behind Aro. She made the fire swirl around them before trying to get to her feet. She looked up to see Leah helping her. She nodded as Leah pointed her hand at Aro and continued to keep the fire surrounding him.
"It seems we arrived to this little gathering a bit too late," Marcus smoothing stated as he looked at the carnage in the small meadow.
"Or just in time to save our wayward Brother," Caius scoffed with a look of disgust.
Evie lowered her hand and pushed Leah's hand down too. The last few vampires were on the ground lying motionless. The wolves quickly surround the girls. Embry was in his human form on the ground next to Leah.
"Demetri, please help Chelsea and Jane," Marcus said as he gestured to the two ladies on the ground. Jane was holding her right hand while Chelsea looked in shock at the loss of her limps.
"Bella and the others are safe," Evie quickly said. She shared the few glimpses she was able to see but it was enough to ease everyone's mind. "They destroyed the Guards."
"Brothers," Aro sighed in relieved voice. "Carlisle has been building a special Army to destroy us." If he could get out of this alive, he needed to get rid of the remaining Cullen's before they could talk to Marcus or Caius.
Marcus stared at the carnage around them. Aro lost some very talented Guards. Their numbers of course were still large but they would be small in talent. He was disappointed in the way Aro decided to handle this entire situation.
"No Aro," Caius calmly responded. "It seems you were trying to build an Army." He glared at his Brother. "I wonder who you were planning to attack once you acquired these young ones." He didn't being proven wrong but it seemed the information was correct.
"You don't have to wonder," Evie stated as she stood in front of their group with Paul and Jacob at her side. "As I mentioned before to Marcus," she placed a hand on Paul to keep him clam. "Aro actually thought he would take Bella, a few of the shape shifters and me. He planned on ruling Volterra….alone." She showed them the images she pulled from Aro when he touched her hand.
Marcus shook his head as the last image faded. He motioned for Renata to move away from Aro. She glanced at her former Master with sadness in her eyes but obeyed Marcus.
"What are you doing?" Aro asked. He couldn't hide the fear in his voice.
"They know your plan to kill them," Evie replied. She tapped the side of her head when Aro looked at her. He growled and tried to lunge at her but Demetri pinned him to the ground.
Jacob moved back and phased. He quickly pulled his shorts on. "He deserves to die," he stated stepping in front of Evie.
"We know the trouble he's caused but he is our Brother," Caius said taking a step forward which caused the wolves to growl and crouch low as if ready to attack.
"Stand down," Jacob ordered. The Pack stopped growling but stayed in low.
Paul stayed close to Evie. He kept his eye on Aro and Demetri. If they tried to come near Evie, he would kill both bloodsuckers.
"Leave and never return," Jacob stated angrily. "If you return to this area, we will finish what was started today." He watched Demetri pull Aro up.
Caius stared at the wolves before him. They were bigger than the Children of the Moon but they were still the same dogs who wanted nothing more than to destroy his kind. He glared at each one.
"It seems we have overstayed our welcome," Marcus said with a nod. "Evie, it seems we owe you for sparing Brother." He gave her a small smile.
"I didn't spare him," Evie replied. "I tried to kill him." She took a step forward and shot fire from her hand. She turned Aro's legs from the knees down to ash. Marcus, Caius and Demetri backed away in surprise.
"No," Aro screamed as he fell to the ground. He looked around for help but his Brothers were too afraid to approach him.
Evie glared at Aro. "That was a reminder to stay away from my family," she said balling her hands in fists
Jacob gestured at the few Guards on the ground. "Take them with you. They are the last of your Guards. The others were destroyed," he said in a calm voice. "I suggest you keep your kind away from this region. We will kill any and all that cross our lands." He watched as two more Guards came forwards and helped the others up.
"A war is something neither of us wants," Caius said with his hands up. "There is no reason to make empty threats." He didn't like this mutt telling him what to do.
Evie pulled out her phone and pulled up a picture. She tossed the phone to Marcus. "The photo as you can see shows a few of your Guards in La Push," she commented keeping her eyes on him. "I'm sure your wondering what the big deal is." She motioned with her finger for him to hit the down button.
Marcus frowned as each picture captured a Volturi Guard. "How were you able to catch these images?" he asked a bit impressed.
"Played with the speed of light required to capture an image," Evie answered. "It was tricky at first but once the image was caught, everything else fell into place." She placed her hands in Paul's fur.
"It seems you figured out how to expose this incident to your advantage," Marcus smiled. "Our kind does not take kindly to be exposed to the world. If they learned one of us broke the rule it would cause chaos." He tossed the phone back but the Alpha caught it.
"Leave and never return to this region," Jacob said as he handed Evie the phone. "It's the only warning you will receive.
Marcus smirked as he nodded. They may be humans but they were a lot smarter than he remembered. He patted Caius on the shoulder. They moved quickly away from the group in front of them. Turning their back to leave was not an option. The damage the wolves and human caused was something that never happened to his kind. The thought of Bella or Evie being turned caused an emotion he hadn't felt in centuries…fear. They would destroy everything in their path and would start with Volterra.
