Whirlipede - the Curlipede pokemon
Continuing from Venipede
"Venia!" I screeched as my sparkling violet needles shot straight at the Talonfame, flying off with my sister stuck to a basket full with berries. But none of my needles hit my target and I could just stare at the predator and the victim, as they got smaller and turned into a simple speck in the sky that vanished by some point.
And I was left alone... though with a poisoned, unconscious Growlithe in front of me. But I still wouldn't call that company.
There was no way I could go after that scorching pokemon in my current state. Especially because my broken off horn was still in the basket, covered by berries. So it would be best to get back home and tell everything to my parents... But I didn't want that. They'd think I'm a failure who couldn't protect her sister.
I needed a pokemon that could run and carry me to wherever the Talonflame took my sister... Or I could climb to the top of one of the trees around and catch some hungry flying type's attention... but who knows where that pokemon would carry me... and who knows if he would or wouldn't fall from my poison and hurt himself and me in the process.
And there was still this poisoned, near death puppy pokemon lying in front of me. Ugh so many ways to act and none of them would probably help me save my sister.
...But I should help this fire type. He's almost dead because of me and I have to fix it.
"Who knows healing moves here?!" I shouted at the top of lungs, though it sounded more like screeching. All eyes fell on me and, though I don't feel very comfortable, I look around and wait for an answer. But only get unhelpful smirks.
"Oh, miss Venama got into some trouble," a male Beedrill approached me and snickered with a teasing tone.
"I'm not, but if that guy doesn't get healed, it's the end for him," I gesture with my healthy horn at the Growlithe. The Beedrill seemed to have changed his face a little, understanding that his mocking didn't hurt me one bit.
"Well I don't have anything to help," he pitied the puppy pokemon but then went back to his teasing voice as he turned to me. "So sad, when your poison is so strong that it kills the creatures that you didn't want to hurt, huh?"
I growled and turned to other pokemon, ignoring the half poison type creature in front of had the same types, but we both were completely different. His poison was weak and mine was strong. He could fly, I could not.
I know Venia hated such things. She wanted to fly, just grow wings from her shell, but we all knew it was impossible. And somehow that hate towards the winged creatures was carried over to me as well. This Beedrill once heard that Venia wanted to fly and laughed straight to her face. I can't believe she didn't attack him, but I did when I found him alone once. Of course I won, but poison types cannot be poisoned so it wasn't such bad damage as I wanted it to be.
Still, one of his legs were crushed and he couldn't walk at all. Of course, wings were still there, but I'd only need to puncture them with enough needles and he wouldn't be able to properly move around. But he kept evading my Poison Sting the first time we fought so his wings remained intact. And of course now was not the time for fighting. Too bad.
There were quite a few pokemon here that I fought, mostly because they kept bragging about their poison that truly was nothing impressive, but I had to still prove I was better. Others kept insulting my little sis, though not in front of her. I just heard pokemon rumoring and battled anyone who gossiped badly about a Venipede who's only wish is to fly. And the remaining ones just heard about me and how I'm some sort of psycho that always fights. At least I think they think like that.
But it's not my problem. They all got what they deserved.
And now I should just try finding normal types, not those stupid buzzing bug types who don't know when to shut up.
Suddenly I noticed an Audino. She was running like she was after someone, but kept stopping and breathing deeply. She must have been exhausted.
I waited for her to slightly catch her breath and yelled. "Hey, Audino! Do you know any healing moves?"
The pink and cream colored one jolted and started staring at me. After a second she nodded.
"Come here!" I buzzed again and she carefully approached me, but when she noticed the Growlithe, lying a little out of sight, she ran up to him immediately and started glowing green. A green orb appeared in between her paws and she lowered her paws and touched the puppy pokemon, making the green aura engulf his body. As the greenness vanished, so did the purpleness, indicating poison.
The fire type started moving. He regained consciousness.
"You-you saved me again," the Growlithe said gratefully as he opened his eyes and saw the Audino.
"I knew you'd get in trouble. I'm just sorry that I couldn't come here faster. My speed is nowhere near yours," it seemed like the hearing pokemon was really disappointed in herself. Well that's idiotic. If the Growlithe wasn't so hot-headed, he wouldn't have been in this situation... and Venia wouldn't be caught and flown somewhere far away.
"Hey, Growlithe, my sister is gone because of you!" I shouted out. There was no time to let them have their little chats.
"B-because of me? How am I responsible for anything? I was unconscious?!" the fire type growled and started standing up. Didn't seem like his legs will give up like earlier.
"She wanted to return home and bring you back a Pecha berry, but as she rushed, a Talonflame swooped down and caught her. Now she is probably in a nest, trying to fend off starving little Fletchlings and it's all your fault!" I admit I started bursting out. Pokemon around me started backing away, as if I'd start launching poisonous needles in every direction any second now.
The puppy pokemon gulped as he stood in front of an intimidating Whirlipede. His irritation was nowhere in sight. "...fine. I'll help you save her."
"I'll help too, if I can," the Audino smiled cheerfully... I honestly didn't think she'd even speak on this matter. She was completely out of context. But I guess it's better than nothing. She'll at least heal the fire type if I accidentally...or on purpose... poison him again.
"I need someone fast and big to carry me and a healer," I buzzed, waiting for my "teammates" to give suggestions.
I remembered how fast my father and mother are... It would be so much easier with them... But they'd never trust anything to me if I said I lost Venia.
"...My brother could carry you two. He's a big Arcanine," the fire type suggested... Not bad.
"Is he far?"
"In the valley at the bottom of this mountain."
...I'd have to almost go through my home to get there. What if my parents see me? But maybe if I am very careful...
"Good enough," I said plainly. "Go get him and I'll move to you at my speed," I ordered. I was kind of surprised that the puppy pokemon obeyed immediately and dashed away. Only that Audino remained next to me.
"Hi, I'm Dina," she smiled and I just looked at her as I crawled forwards. What was I supposed to do with her name? We'll never see each other after this anyway. "And what's yours?" she asked... should have guessed.
"Venama," I wasn't in the mood to chat. Though the road was long.
"That Growlithe is called Growu. He's really a good pokemon," she said as if she wanted me to believe that.
"I lost my sister because of him. If he helps me get her back, then he will be a good pokemon, but now - no," I explained.
"I see," she murmured and the conversation ended... It's not like I wanted to continue it.
After a half an hour, I heard big, fast footsteps and heavy breathing. Smaller footsteps followed.
"There... My... brother – Arcu," Growu was out of breath just like his brother, but the later one seemed in way better condition... Well Growu was poisoned not so long ago after all.
"I need to find my sister. Can you carry me to her?" I asked and Arcu nodded.
He laid down on the ground and let me climb onto his back. My Poison Point immediately took effect.
"Dina. Climb on and use Refresh on him," I ordered and she nodded, though a little surprised, and got on behind me on the Arcanine's back. Her continued Refresh made Arcu always glow green. I wonder if that was enough for him not to feel continuous poisoning.
A big fire type, carrying a bug/poison type and a normal type, with another, but smaller fire type running behind. We probably looked really weird. Well, everyone we passed observed us with confused looks.
I commanded to go straight, just like I saw the Talonflame fly, but who knew where we were, deep in the forest. I could have only maybe navigated if I looked from the same position I was when Venia was taken, but now I completely didn't know where to go. I kept observing the treetops, trying to spot Talonflame nests. But there were all kinds of nests, except for the fire/flying pokemon.
We had to stop once we reached a mountain and I didn't know if we should go up or in some other direction around it. But an orange feather flickering in the wind near the top of the mountain made me order the Arcanine to run up. Of course, just like my rolling, his running wasn't so good on a steep path like this one.
"Thank you for the help," I buzzed and jumped off of Arcu and landed on the mountain, with my barbs digging into it so I don't slide down. "I'll take it from here... You guys were a big help. If I find my little sister and rescue her, then it will be just because you all helped me," for the first time I honestly felt grateful. The worry for my sister and how these pokemon just went and helped me without questions made me feel very strange, but it all will end soon.
I didn't look back, to check if they stayed and waited for me, though it would make the journey back much more easier, but as long as I rescue Venia, we can travel even a few days and I'd still be happy.
Some flying type cawing and screeching came from the almost top of the mountain. Sounded like a fight. And the falling orange feathers proved it. I heard faint, but angry buzzing as well.
Wait for me, Venia! Just a little bit more!
I jumped the last steps on the mountain, out of the eagerness, and, though I almost fell back and jeopardized everything, I managed to fall forwards and even roll a little towards the nest in which the battle commenced.
A huge Talonflame, fighting a little Venipede. Both seemed rather tired and the flying one was obviously poisoned, but still stayed in the air. Three Fletchlings tried to stay at the edge of the nest above which their mother or father flapped its huge wings. Venia obviously just fought the parent and had no intention in hurting the little ones. The basket wasn't stuck on her anymore and laid on its side not far from Venia with all the berries scattered across the nest. Some traces of the berries were on Venia's mouth, so she probably ate some for defense. We're quite lucky that we had to pick berries that weaken fire and flying type moves.
Without warning, I conjure up enough venom in my only horn on the front to fling the predator away. Of course, if I was spinning, there would be clumps of venom flying straight at the Talonflame. It would be more damaging, but wouldn't knock it away.
"Venama!" Venia noticed me and shouted happily, even though she was tired. She knew her fighting wasn't in vain and that I'll help her get away.
"What's this?! Another poison type! Came to hurt my babies?!" the Talonflame seemed to be an outraged mother that immediately got back to her place above her children.
"I just want my sister back! We both have no intentions to hurt your Fletchlings!" I shouted, but it seemed the rage kept my words from reaching her.
"One of my sweeties is already poisoned! My husband flew her to the nearest Pecha berry tree to heal her! You want all of my babies to suffer the same faith!" she cawed furiously, stating her unreal fears. It seemed like she looked at us, but at the same time didn't see us. It felt like she was just staring at sacks of poison.
I needed to get her complete attention, so that Venia could have a chance to get out of that nest. I started jumping to the side, and closer to the mother Talonflame. She started flapping her wings faster, ready to release the embers from her feathers. She kept glancing at Venia, but as I came closer, she stopped observing my little sister and just concentrated on me. The little Fletchlings cuddled under their mother and started backing away, as their mother moved back as well.
I started moving my only horn on my head as if I was aiming, though I could aim in a second, but this way I could gain more time. The Talonflame seemed to want to only use her embers, once I shot my poison or was very close to that.
Thank Arceus Venia moved soundlessly. Even the branches the nest consisted of didn't move enough to let a sound out. Or at least the mother's flapping was louder than the shimmering.
"Mommy! Mommy! She's getting away!" one of the little ones squeaked and pointed at Venia while jumping out of eagerness that their enemy was escaping. I wanted to just shoot a poisonous needle into the Fletchling's mouth and shut him up, but it was too late and that would have made things much worse.
"Oh no you don't!" the Talonflame screeched and the rain of embers began. I knew Venia would get major damage and I couldn't just stand by and watch.
With all my strength I jumped in front of Venia and put up a protective shield that started stopping all of the fiery embers. I breathed with relief as Venia snuggled to me and thanked me for protecting her. Now we just needed to jump back and... fall down the mountain. Of course it will be painful, but not as painful as fire burning through our shells.
"Jump!" I buzzed and we turned around and jumped at the same time. We were close enough to the edge to immediately start rolling down the mountain. Well, Venia didn't roll too much, but I at least tried.
The screeching from the mother got quieter and quieter. She obviously understood we won't get back up and won't try to hurt her children anymore... which we didn't want to do in the first place.
The uneven steep mountain kept throwing us off of it, as we rolled on rocks that made us take air, but immediately we got back to the mountain with loud thumps and painful landings. But the mountain was ending quickly and we both just braced ourselves for every painful feeling.
But before we knew it, we reached ground and hit some nearby trees that completely stopped us. We were both dizzy and sore, but happy nonetheless.
I looked back at the top of the mountain. The basket, all of the berries and even my horn were still there. I sighed at my immobility, but understood that I just need to evolve and I will be able to move very fast again, so it wasn't that bad.
Arcu, Growu and Dina actually waited for us and got us both safely home. I saw how happy Venia was that Growu was alright and that we both traveled on an Arcanine that didn't feel the poisoning very much because of Dina's Refresh.
I thought the five of us won't see each other after this, but we actually became pretty good friends. Two fire type brothers, two bug/poison type sisters and a normal female. A strange group, but a good one.
End of the Curlipede pokemon.
I kind of feel weird about this one. Not sure what's wrong with it, but still.
I'll think up another story for Scolipede... Or maybe not.
