Chapter 44 - Honeymoon

'Did you really think I'd put the details of the honeymoon in my overnight bag? You ought to know better by now that I keep all important information safely tucked up in here' Jane said, tapping the side of his head with his index finger as he switched on the light at the bed. Lisbon froze, her fingers inside his bag as she tried to search surreptitiously for clues to their honeymoon destination in the darkened bedroom.

She turned around to him and crossed her arms in front of her, giving him her best glare. Jane grinned at her, the sight of her in an emerald green satin nightgown making the sight both comical and alluring as opposed to intimidating.

'So, we're married now, where are we going? You know I hate surprises', she said with a pout. Jane stared at her, his eyes drifting to her cleavage, her crossed arms pushing her breasts together making his body react to her with a renewed energy after a couple of hours sleep.

'Come back to bed and I might tell you' he suggested, gesturing with his head to the empty space beside him.

'If I come back to bed you'll only distract me' she replied, raising an eyebrow.

He grinned at her. 'Would that be such a bad thing?'

Lisbon shook her head. 'Spill. Where are we going? It better not be Paris or somewhere in Europe.'

Jane burst out laughing. 'Teresa, only you would find the idea of a secret honeymoon to Paris the most treacherous act I could pull off.'

Lisbon moved closer towards him and sat beside him on the bed. He began to move his fingers over the smooth fabric covering her knees, pushing it up to bare her legs. 'I really like this nightgown but I don't think you should wear it out. Why not take it off and save it for the honeymoon.'

She stilled his hand and her expression left him in doubt there would be no further amorous activities this night until he told her where they were going on honeymoon.

He sighed and rolled his eyes, moving his hand away. 'Of course it's not Paris or anywhere in Europe. I know that's too far to go and too long to be away with Amelia so young. It's close by, no more than a few hours away. Is that enough?'

Her silence spoke volumes and he rolled his eyes again. 'Guess' he tried, shrugging his shoulders.

'Patrick, this is our wedding night, please don't make me punch you and ruin the romance of it all' she replied evenly.

He kissed her quickly on the lips. 'Okay, but you could have at least guessed. Yosemite National Park.'

She thought for a second before breaking into a smile. It was so long ago that they had planned to go there on their first vacation when they lived in Austin. Then she had got shot and then they broke up and then...

She looked back up at him. 'Really? You don't think it's bad luck?'

'Since when are you superstitious? And no, it's going to be perfect. I've...We've waited a long time for this, wouldn't you say.'

She leaned over and kissed him deeply. 'Much too long.'

'The plan is we go up there tomorrow afternoon after picking up Amelia in the morning from the Minellis. I know we talked about Steph and Ian taking her for a few days so we could be by ourselves but...and I know it's not exactly traditional but...I don't think I can be away from her for two nights in a row. Not yet.' He looked sheepishly at her, hoping she felt the same.

The passionate kiss she pressed on his lips gave him the answer he wanted. 'It's perfect' she replied, if her kiss hadn't already made it clear she was of the same mind. 'I didn't know how I was going to cope without her for another night. Now I really can't wait.'

Amelia was sucking on her teething ring as they drove to Yosemite the following day, chattering and humming to herself incessantly.

'She's talking gibberish' Lisbon laughed to Jane as she drove them, who was listening intently to every sound she made.

'For all we know it's an undiscovered language. Could be a way of communicating with animals or aliens' he replied, teasing her.

Lisbon rolled her eyes as Jane grinned at her. 'Now you're both talking gibberish.'

'Glad marriage hasn't changed me too much then' he smiled over at her.

As they drove through the park on their way to the cabin Lisbon slowed down, taking in the sight of the majestic mountains, lakes and waterfalls as they passed them. 'It's absolutely beautiful' she whispered reverently.

When they reached their cabin they smiled at each other. It looked just as beautiful as advertised. They got out of the car and looked around them, Jane releasing Amelia from her car seat to hold her in his arms, tilting his head back to feel the sun on his face. Lisbon grinned as Amelia mirrored his actions and then looked at her, a silent question on her face asking what her father was looking up at that made him so happy. Lisbon shrugged back, dazzling her with a smile that she received in return. Jane and Lisbon breathed in the crisp fresh air as they took in the stunning vista all around them. 'It was worth the wait' Lisbon sighed happily, looking over at Jane.

As she took Amelia from Jane so he could unpack the car he kissed her softly on the lips. 'It was all worth the wait.'
