"Amy!" I squealed silently.
After spending so many months away from someone, you come back and suddenly realize every single reason why you have missed them.
Right now I missed the love of my best friend and the was she could comfort me when I needed her.
"Chloe!" Amy said slightly louder.
We met halfway and came into a tight hug. Her head was on my shoulder and mine was one hers. She was squeezing me so tight that I worried I might not be able to breath. But I didn't care. I would not have traded this moments for a million.
I could smell Amy's perfume. Lilacs. They are still her favorite.
Pyper made a giggling sound from behind us somewhere. I could feel Amy tense up as her eyes shot open to stare in Pyper's eyes. Amy pulled out of our hug and looked my in the eyes. He eyes were wide and she was confused.
"Can we go inside?" I asked.
Amy nodded hesitantly as her eyes continued to glare at me, Adam, and Pyper.
We went into the place that I had spent many nights at. I missed our sleepovers. We use to make popcorn and rent DVDs. Amy had a collection of her favorite songs that would blare while we painted our toes.
We walked over to the living room and she gestured for us to take a seat.
"I'm home alone, the dads are at the movies." Amy said, still on her guard.
"Before I start talking, I want you to tell me what I missed." I said.
Amy nodded in agreement but she kept shifting her gaze over to the baby.
"How's my mom?" I asked.
Amy returned her focus on me.
"I honestly haven't talk to her. I'm sorry. But It was hard without you." Amy sighed.
"I know. Believe me, it was hard for me too." I said.
I heard Adam give out a near silent laugh of agreement so I turned and shot him a look.
When I looked back I saw Amy trying to access the situation.
"What is the lie that they told everyone?" I asked.
"You and Alek got in a fight. You refused to marry him and you got insanely mad. You packed up your things and left the country to be a foreign exchange student. None of us wanted you to go so you got mad and haven't talked to us. That's why we don't know anything." Amy said sadly.
We both knew how realistic the story sounded. I have always been one to hold a grudge. I could tell why everyone here believed the story.
I could also tell how hurt my best friend had been.
"Did you believe it?" I asked, wondering if she really knew me.
"Not for a second." Amy smiled. "Jasmine and Valentina called everyone to cancel the wedding and explain your situation. Jasmine was the one to call me. When I begged for details she refused. She said she had other people to call and she couldn't' talk. Paul and I drove over there and appeared at their door. When Jasmine opened it, I could tell she had been upset and exhausted. I demanded that she tell me the truth because I told her I hadn't believed that lie. She sighed and told me that you went into hiding. When she said she didn't know where you were, I didn't believe her. But then it added up. Why else would she be so overwhelmed? And I left balling my eyes out." She finished. "I can't tell Paul all of my girl gossip like I can tell you." She smiled weakly.
"How have they been since then?" I asked.
I really didn't want to know the answer to this question. I had a good guess in my mind. But the curiosity was eating at me and I just had to know.
"I haven't talk to them. As I was leaving Jasmine said we shouldn't talk. She said that we were your friend and not hers. She said it would just make things harder to handle. And it was true so I haven't tried to talk to her." Amy said.
"Anything else?" I asked.
"Paul and I fought a lot. We were just so upset that we needed to feel something. So we felt anger and yelled at each other. We didn't mean any of it though. But we are over it now. We are happy again. Not completely, but enough to get by." She said quietly. "But everything is about to get better now that you are back." She smiled.
I was about to explain to Amy what had been going on with e. I was going to tell her about Adam and Pyper. But I got interrupted.
There was somebody on the roof. Adam shot me a look and ran over to me. He pulled me out of the chair and handed me Pyper.
"Chloe, we weren't supposed to go anywhere. We were supposed to go straight to our apartment." He reminded me.
I could tell that he was freaking out. But I had to give Amy something.
"Amy, we have to go. I promise I'll explain everything soon. But don't tell anyone that you talked to me or that you even know I'm here. It might not be safe for me yet." I said sternly.
Pyper was getting fussy in my arms and I hurried to the door after Adam. I saw him run out and start to flag down a cab. He was struggling so I knew I had a minute.
I turned around to say goodbye to Amy.
"Just answer me! Are you staying?" She asked.
"Only if its safe. If anything goes wrong I have to go back." I said.
"Back where?" She asked.
"It wouldn't be hiding if everyone knew where I was." I said. I could tell that it hurt her but it wasn't safe for either of us if she knew.
Amy looked sad that I was leaving.
"I have to go Amy." I said.
"Is?" She asked gesturing to my baby.
"My daughter." I said.
I heard Adam yelling for me. I knew that this left Amy completely curious but I had no more time. I had to go.
I ran over to Adam's side as he waved down a cab.
I could see him slightly smiling at his success.
"You're learning already." I said. "It's progress."
I saw him roll his eyes at me as he opened the cab door. He followed us in and shut the door behind us.
Amy stood in her doorway as she watched us go. She had just gotten me back and she didn't want to let me go just yet. There were so many question still in her mind that she hadn't gotten to ask.
