Ch.51 Fayth Scar

Seymour moved forward, stabbing at us with his giant lance. I rolled to the side and avoided it, while the snow the spear pierced melt, sizzling in a puddle of green acid. "What the-?" I said, and Seymour laughed, the sound echoing and metallic through his armor. "You like my Lance of Atrophy? One hit and you're inflicted with Zombie status!" he said. Kimahri glared at him. "You have angered Kimahri. The spirits of the fallen Ronso will guide Kimahri's spear!" he said, running forward and bringing said weapon down on Seymour's ally, Mortiorchis. The move barely hurt it, and Seymour tried to respond by using his own lance. He missed, and Tidus ran forward to slash at him while he was distracted.

Unfortunately he recovered quickly enough to block and in return successfully stabbed Tidus in the stomach with his spear. Before he could drink a Holy Water however, Mortiorchis cast Full-Life on him. Since Tidus had Zombie status the spell did the exact opposite of reviving him- that is to say, he gasped before keeling over, unconscious on the spot. "Tidus!" Yuna called, but before she could do anything Seymour tried to get her a swell, and Deiru pulled her back out of the way. I ran over to Tidus and propped his head up, pushing a Phoenix Down into his mouth. Instantly he gasped and his eye shot open, and I asked "You alright?" He nodded and stood, glaring at Seymour and saying "Better than alright. I'm ready to take him down!"

True to his word he rushed forward, jumping onto Seymour and leaping off, giving the height he needed to unleash Energy Rain. Brotherhood glowed brightly and Tidus swung, sending a barrage of energy orbs at Seymour that disappeared before exploding. The move eliminated the rest of Mortiorchis's health, and he got it back from Seymour be using Mortibsorption. He grunted from the force of having his sown strength drained from him, the effect made only stronger by the fact that I used Drain as well. He glared at me and said "Foolish girl! Die!" He waved his hand and cast Flare. A ring of fire appeared on the ground around me, before erupted upwards, catching me in the blast.

I shouted and staggered back, beating at the flames on my sleeves before Lulu doused them with a Water spell. While I was thanking her Rikku ran forward, and called "You big meanie! How 'bout I give you a taste of your own medicine?" Then she flung her out her gloved hand, and to my amazement the same ring of fire appeared around Seymour, erupting in a Flare spell as well. While Seymour shouted in pain from the heat I looked at Rikku. "How did you do that? You don't know any Black Magic spells!" I said. She smiled mischievously. "True, but I do know the ability Copycat! And that allows me to copy whatever move my opponent last used!"

"Not that you'll be able to use it again!" Seymour told her. Suddenly the pair of sword on Mortiorchis's back moved out of their sheaths, and it grasped them before drawing them forth. It and Seymour flipped over and dived beneath the cliff, before shooting upwards and sending a wave of destruction across the ground towards us in an X. Rikku was up front and took the full impact, being sent through the air screaming while the rest of us were able to mitigate that damage somewhat with our weapons. Rikku hit the cliff behind us and slid down, clutching her head and groaning softly. Seymour laughed. "Cross Cleave, a truly excellent attack! Now you shall know not to copy my powers!" he said triumphantly.

I bared my teeth and said "Oh yeah?" before calling upon all my power to unleash my ultimate Overdrive: Armageddon. Energy crackled along the length of my sword before I fired a beam of energy at Seymour, who couldn't move out of the way quickly enough and was hit. The beam went straight through him before doubling back, attacking both him and Mortiorchis and trapping them in a crystalline prison of light. I rose into the air and Seymour glared at me, waving his hand and cast Flare again. But I pointed my sword at the sky and fired another bolt into the clouds, which rumbled before sending a trio of twisters that stopped his casting and battered him with hurricane-force winds.

While the two of them struggled to move my sword shrank and glowed white, turning into a ball of silver and purple flame that I called "Have a taste of this, you bastard!" before throwing. It hit him dead-on and exploded in an atomic blast, battering the both of them with blinding light and melting heat. When it faded I lowered back onto the ground and fell to one knee, while Seymour grunted from Mortiorchis using Mortibsorption once again. "Nice one, Sofia!" Wakka called, running forward and throwing his ball, which was covered with spikes. He aimed for the softer parts of Seymour's armor that had been melted, and ripped a hole in one of them. Seymour tried to fight back, but whatever attempt he made was blocked by the others.

That was, until Yuna stepped forward and raised her arms, indicating that she was about to summon. Seymour sneered at her. "Have you come to accept your fate as well? Let death carry you off into sweet slumber," he said. Yuna glared at him. "You can't run from your fate!" she said, lowering her arms. Reality was distorted and a white cherry tree appeared, from behind which Yojimbo stepped forward. Things went back to normal, and he held out his hand towards Yuna. She placed an entire bag of gil in his hand. Seymour laughed. "You dare to think a single aeon can match me?" he asked. Both his and Mortiorchis's bodies began crackling with red energy, and he called "It's time to die! Total Annihilation!"

Just as Seymour began to attack Yojimbo nodded and placed the bag of gil into his sleeve, while a hole opened in the ground in front of him. A large katana burst out, and he gripped it before unsheathing it and tossing the sheath aside. "Now Yojimbo! Use Zanmato!" Yuna called. It did so, swinging its sword and sending out a wave of energy that passed straight through Seymour, cleaving him in two. He stopped, and shouted before writhing in pain. But it was no good, Yojimbo's ultimate power had killed him instantly, proven so when he exploded in a blast of smoke that was carried away on the mountain winds. Tidus fell to one knee and stabbed his sword into the ground. "And stay up there!" he called, panting.

We were all silent for a number of minutes, until we regained our strength and began to continue on. Yuna stayed behind though, and said "he will become Sin... with my help." "Lies. Forget them," Auron told her. "If he becomes Sin, Sir Jecht and Alexander will be saved," she continued, and Deiru announced "We're leaving." "You know something! Tell me!" she called at them. They were both silent, and she ran up to Tidus and me. "Tell me," she said, her voice bordering on begging. I sighed and Tidus hung his head. "Sin's... my old man. Sofia's too," he said. "You hit your head?" Wakka asked. "Our fathers became Sin! We don't how how or why they did it!" I said. "I felt him, inside, and when I did I knew it was true. Our old men are Spira's suffering. Sorry," Tidus said.

"Even... even knowing is your fathers... Still, you know, I must..." Yuna said, shocked. "I know. Let's get him. I think my old man would want that," Tidus said. "You'd fight your own father?" Lulu asked. "Yeah. No problem there," he replied. She looked at me. "And you, Sofia? Are you willing to fight your father?" she asked. I looked away. "I don't want to- in fact, it's the last thing I want." I tightened my grip on Selini. "But if that's his final wish, then I'll respect it," I said firmly. "Uh... 'Bout your old man... You sure this ain't some kinda bad toxin dream or something?" Wakka asked. We shook our heads, and he said "Then, Chappu..." he turned around. "I, uh... I think I'll just pretend I didn't hear nothing. I'm getting a little confused, ya? Why... Why'd all this have to happen?" he asked. "We'll learn when we arrive. Soon," Auron promised, before walking forward with Deiru.

We followed, and a series of arched gateways appeared like on the other side of the mountain. We had just passed them and turned around a corner, when suddenly we saw a sight that shock us to stillness. "Wow!" Yuna said, and I nodded in agreement. Ahead was a single winding path, and next to it was huge lake. A blue mist-like substance drifted down a set of falls and over the lake, and in the center they formed a huge blue pillar that shot up into the heavens. The most startling feature was not to the left of the rod, but to the right. Countless statues of people covered the wall, and the same blue mist drifted off of them and flowed across the ground. "Wh-What are those?" Wakka asked.

"These are fayth," Yuna said. She walked forward and placed a hand on them, and she gasped. "A summoning! Someone is using these fayth! Someone is drawing energy from all of them!" "This many?" Rikku asked, incredulous. "Who possesses power on this scale? And what could they be calling?" Lulu thought aloud. We didn't know, and Rikku ran up to Auron and Deiru. "Hey, you two know something, don't you? Spill the beans!" "Don't depend on others for knowledge. Remember, this is your journey too," Deiru reminded her, walking off. Auron looked at us before following, and Rikku said "Yunie might die, you know?" "No... they're right," Tidus said. We both looked at him, and he said "This is our... this is my story."

Before I could protest he laid his hand on the fayth, and shouted before covering his eyes. I rushed forward but was too late; he had already crumbled to the ground. "Tidus!" Yuna called, instantly kneeling next to me, looking at him. There were no marks, or injuries, in fact it seemed that he had done nothing but fall asleep. But both Yuna and I could sense pyreflies, and a great number of them were swirling about in his body. "His spirit is filled with pyreflies!" Yuna said aloud. "What?! Then couldn't you perform a sending and get rid of them?" Wakka asked. Instantly Yuna's faced clouded with uncertainty, and she said "It's possible. But I've never removed pyreflies from someone's body. I don't know what might happen..." She trailed off.

I knew what was worrying her; if she did this and made a mistake, Yuna would never be able to forgive herself. "Don't worry. I'll do it," I said. She looked at me and seemed like she was about to argue, when I placed a hand on her shoulder. "Sis, trust me," I said. Slowly she nodded, and stood up before taking a step back to give me space. I pulled off my trench coat and folded it into a pillow, which I tucked under Tidus's head. Then I rubbed my hands together before placing them on his chest. His breathing was calm and normal, the pyreflies and movement beneath his eyelids the only indication that he was doing anything other than sleeping. I concentrated and felt the pyreflies stir, before rising out of Tidus's body and up my arms. I gasped and suddenly fell to the ground, my world turning black even as Yuna ran towards me.

Now the truth about Sin is in the open, and the fayth have reacted to Sofia as well. What could he be seeing, and will she and Tidus be able to handle the truth of it?
