As soon as the barrier dropped, Katie flew to Render, setting Cloud back on the ground as well. She asked him, "Render, are you okay?"
Render nodded. "Yeah…" he glanced at his bleeding arm. "Believe it or not, this the only scratch I got."
Katie crinkled her nose at the wound. "Scratch? That's not a scratch." She dismissed the χ-blade and motioned Render to give her his arm. He did and she placed her hand on the wound, making Render wince. "I'm surprised that it hasn't healed yet…" she grunted and squeezed the wound. Render made a small sharp yell at the action and tried to squirm out of Katie's grip. Katie didn't let go. "Hold still!" She barked.
"Maybe if you stopped squeezing it!" Render snapped back.
"Just hold still!" Katie growled. A faint green light glowed under her hand. She took it away. Render's eyes widened. The wound was gone. "You're welcome…"
Cloud picked up the Masamune off of the ground. "So…he's gone."
Render nodded. "Yep, I believe so."
"Don't bet your munny or gil on it," Katie told him. "He'll come back."
"Why would he?" Cloud inquired. "He's dead. I saw Render get rid of him with my own eyes…and so did you."
"Yes, we did. But he's still a Child of Jenova. They can die, but they don't stay dead. If this word is the way I think it is, the Lifestream doesn't accept Jenova Cells. So with that said, his soul can't become one with the Lifestream and help keeping the planet alive. It'll take a few years for him to return. But still, he's gone for now and we don't have to deal with him," Katie explained. She saw the confusion in Cloud's eyes, making her sigh and shake her head. "Never mind…just don't be surprised when he returns in a couple of years or more." She turned to Render and asked him, "Are you sure you're okay?"
Render made a small laugh, "Katie! I'm fine. You don't have to worry about me…honestly."
Katie sighed and lifted her hands up in defeat. "Okay." She headed to where the remains of Sephiroth was.
Cloud lifted the Masamune to Render. "I think this is yours now."
Render's eyes bugged out of his head at the gesture. He stammered nonsense as he darted his eyes at Cloud then at the sword then at Cloud again. "A-Are…are you…are you sure…?"
Cloud made a curt nod. "Yes. You defeated him. That's something that I've hadn't been able to do for a long time. So…since you defeated him…it's customary that you take his sword as your own."
Render slowly reached out for the handle of the oversized katana. He grasped it slowly and took it away from Cloud. "Wow. This thing's light!" he kept it in his hand, not having a proper way to sheath it. "Thanks, Cloud…for taking me here."
"I just wish I was able to help you out more."
"It's fine…" Render glanced over to his teacher. He raised his eyebrow. "What…are you doing?"
"I'm looking for the Black Materia…" Katie answered over her shoulder. "I'm the only one who can reverse the Meteor, since there aren't any more Cetras around to cast the Holy spell with the White Materia."
"Why are you the only one who can reverse it?"
"Because I'm…" Katie thought for the right word. Which wasn't successful. "I'm the last One Winged Angel. You guys may have Jenova Cells but you don't have the right kind." She groaned in defeat and stood back up. "I can't find it. He must have hid it somewhere…" she clicked her comlink in her Mark of Mastery emblem. "Riku? What's the status of Radiant Garden?"
There was a long pause before a small static cut through the air. "Cid and Sazh got the shield running again so Shinra can't send more air strikes and SOLDIERS. Plus, a couple of Turks decided to help our side out. I think…they're names were Rude and Reno."
"Is it powerful enough to protect Radiant Garden from the Meteor?"
"Yeah, I think so…you got a plan?"
"Yes, I do," Katie said with a smirk. "Put Leon on."
"I'm right here. What's up?"
"Since the shield for Radiant Garden is up…I think we have to evacuate Midgar—"
"Why on earth would we do that?!"
"Because there are people in Midgar that are worth saving!" Katie yelled. "I can't find the damn Black Materia so I fear I won't reverse the spell in time to salvage Midgar. And since the shield is up, we can protect them!"
Silence came over the radio. They heard Leon sigh. "Fine. I'll send over Riku, Yuffie, Vincent, Barret, and Cid to help. They'll come in on Cid's air craft."
"Alright. See you then." She discontinued the link. "Are you guys up to evacuating Midgar?"
Render nodded. "Yeah."
"I know the city the best. I'll take Render and we'll get as many out as we can."
Katie made a curt nod. "Alright. I'll get the Shinra building."
Render raised an eyebrow at Katie. "You will? Why evacuate that?"
"I have my reasons," Katie snapped.
Render saw straight through Katie's words. 'She's not going to evacuate the Shinra building…she's going to…! Even after what she told me and Cloud…!' Quickly, Render said to Katie, "We can get the Shinra building—"
Katie's eyes snapped at him. "No, you aren't." Before Render could protest, she flew up to the sky and went towards Midgar.
Cloud picked up something from the ground. "What's this?"
Render held out his hand, having Cloud plop the item into his palm. When he looked down, he almost dropped it. "This is the Black Materia!"
Cloud's eyes narrowed. "Then we have to catch up to Katie then."
Katie flew over the steel city, Midgar. The sirens wailed as she got closer to the building in the center of it all: Shinra Headquarters. From a bird's eye-view, she could see Infantrymen flood out of Shinra's gates and set their sights on her. She chuckled, "Looks like they were expecting me.." Katie shielded her eyes when a skylight shone into her face. She dive-bombed towards the ground, barrel rolling through the pelting rounds. Katie landed heavily at the entrance of the 60 story building, she slowly stood up.
As she rose from the ground, the cadets voices overlapped: "Isn't that...?"
"It can't be!"
"He died years ago!"
Katie made an amused snort. "Oh, I'm not who you think I am..." she extend her wing slowly. She stopped when the guns of the soldiers clicked, she watched small red dots litter her body.
"Don't you try anything, Genesis Rhapsodos! You are under arrest for countless acts of manslaughter and mutiny against Shinra Electric Company!" one of the Infantrymen yelled.
Katie raised an eyebrow then slowly grinned at the Infantrymen. "One problem with that, son..." Her winged snapped to full extension. "I'm not Genesis Rhapsodos." Black feathers covered the line, making them disappear behind the black cloud. "Hollow in terror...Shinra lapdogs!" Screams of agony emitted from the black cloud of feathers. The feathers floated away from the Infantrymen, they were all on the ground. Dead. Katie scanned over the Infantrymen and shook her head at herself. She walked through the bodies that littered the black ground.
Katie stopped at the doors of the Shinra Electric Company. She looked up to the security camera and mock saluted it. Katie drew her gun faster than lightning and blasted the video camera out of existence. She pointed the gun at the door and pulled the trigger. An alarm filled her ears as she stepped through the entrance she made. SOLDIERS and Infantrymen flooded from the stairs and pointed their weapons at Katie. Katie slowly smirked and raised her hand, her wing lifted her high into the air. Before any of the soldiers had the chance to fire, Katie casted a red light down to their feet, making demon summoning circles of red light form slowly. She closed her fist. The circles of light exploded as red lightning zapped onto them, sending them left-to-right.
Katie glanced over to a still alive Infantrymen and walked over to him. The boy was gravely injured, however. It was a shock to see he survived the attack. The Infantryman tried to lift his gun to shoot Katie, but he was too weak to do so. He flinched when Katie knelt down to his level and reached slowly towards him, he gasped when she placed her hand on his shoulder. "It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you..." Katie promised him. "I don't mean to kill or harm you guys, okay? It's just I protect myself...all I want is how to get to the science department."
"It's…it's on the fifteenth floor...but you need an...access card to get in..." The Infantryman said.
Katie smiled. "Thank you..." she helped him up and summoned Chaos Ripper, she casted a Curaga spell. "Go. There is a town far out of Midgar called Radiant Garden, tell the Restoration Committee I sent you. Your fate will be better there than here." Katie continued on through the building. She stopped at the elevator and pushed the up button, the doors opened with a ding, welcoming Katie inside. Katie pushed fifteen on the panel, making the door's close.
Katie peaked her head through the door when she reached her destination. No one. With her hand on her gun hoister strapped on her thigh, she hesitantly walked out of the elevator. Her eyes darted around as she made her way through the corridor, taking her to the science department. She folded her wing back into her shoulder blade, the corridor now getting to narrow for it to fit. Voices suddenly sounded, making Katie go into hiding.
"I thought I saw..."
"Saw what?"
"I bet it was nothing..."
The footsteps faded away from Katie's position. She slowly got out of her hiding place and gazed down the hall. Katie stared at the door that said 'science department'. Anger slowly bubbled in her chest, the anger turning into bitter rage. She swiped the card she stole so many months ago, the door's swept open.
