Chapter 54: The Opponent
"Oshitari-kun, please answer the question on page three."
Failing to receive a response, the mathematics sensei's voice repeated itself, "Oshitari-kun."
A slight nudge was then felt against my supporting elbow, "Oi Kenya, wake up!" Yuuji's hissed into my ear, "Sensei's coming over!"
"Oshit-"
Suddenly feeling a heavy foot stamped on top of my right toe, my instincts immediately reacted and my eyes snapped themselves open while my legs shot up straight as a stick. Greeted by a rather unpleased looking maths teacher, I gulped as the entire class turned their attention towards me.
"Falling asleep in my class? Oshitari-kun you are brave," sensei snapped, his square glasses gleaming against the ceiling lights.
A few giggles were heard from the female members of the class, "Sensei, I apologize," I quickly ushered, "I was tired from yesterday's win of the semifinals.'
The old man standing before me gave a small snort as he danced a pair of beady eyes from me to my neighbor Yuuji, "Not good enough!" he roared, slamming the thick maths textbook into his palm.
Cringing at the loud slap of the pages, I reluctantly lowered my head and bowed, "See me after class, Oshitari!" sensei gave one last exclaim before storming back to the front of the classroom.
"Detention?" my helpful neighbor chuckled as I sat back down.
I snorted at Yuuji, "I'd rather not," I grumbled, flipping my notes book open, "My record is spotless."
Yuuji managed a low laugh, "Well not for much longer!" he insisted, giving me a whack across the shoulder, "Serves you right for dreaming about Hikari-chan in Fukuko sensei's maths class."
I gave a wild roll of my eyes, "Oh shut up…"

"Oshitari, I am certainly disappointed by this," sensei repeated for the hundredth time, "Your exams are coming up and yet you allow yourself to fall asleep in class?"
His beady eyes blinked at me behind thick lenses, "Sensei, I-"
"You're a well respected member of this class and you achieve good grades, Oshitari," he continued, tapping a pen against the wooden desk, "I don't see why you'll take a turn now."
I sighed, "Like I've said before sensei, the semifinals-"
There was a loud cough, "I'm sure that being the oldest son in your family, you wouldn't want to let down your relatives with these excuses," sensei remarked in a solemn tone.
Astonished, I blinked with confusion, "You're not a child anymore," sensei added before throwing me a thick handout, "Extra ten pages, due tomorrow."
My eyes popped and I jaw dropped at the stack of papers, "H-hold on sensei, I can't-"
"Please, close the door when you leave," a cheek puffing smile.
Swearing in the name of Oshitari that the old man sitting before me just spoke a mythical language, I stared with unconvincing eyes while the back of my brain began its growth of a potential headache. Whacking the thick stack of paper against my forehead, I released a tired groan before turning around and leaving the classroom.
Outside, Yuuji greeted me with an ever so wide grin, "So? How did it go?" he questioned, "Detention after school or cleaning the female bathrooms?"

(Hikari's POV)
Kagami-san's hospital was dotted with people this afternoon. There were some apparent accident on the rush hour roads and both the doctors and nurses were off the hooks with the patient list. Yet, Kagami-san who was still seated as an Insensitive Care patient- was doing well without any attention from the medical units.
"Singles three, doubles two…" a bothered sigh, "Shishigaku sure has a handful of skilled players."
I glanced at the yellow manila folder Kagami-san had in hand, "I recall that they're from Kyushu," I insisted, "One of the best teams there."
Kagami-san nodded as she placed the folder down against the sliding table that reached her waist, "Chitose's old school," she announced before flipping through the papers, "Quite an interesting school was well."
Watching as Kagami-san worked her eyes through the stack of documents and important national files, I quietly took a slip of my nearly cold cup of green tea and patiently waited for Kagami-san to finish.
"Oh-" her hand suddenly paused on a particular document held together by a single staple, "This is-"
I looked up, "What is it?"
Kagami-san held up the handout and carefully studied it front to back, "Think we missed this earlier," she slowly remarked before passing me the paper.
Gently taking the package from Kagami-san's hand, I was instantly greeted by a picture of a dark haired teenage boy, dressed in his tennis uniform and decorated with a smile- indeed, cute and handsome. But that wasn't the reason why Kagami-san stopped at this page. Turning my attention down to the player information box, I automatically felt my eyes widened at what was being printed.
"Namikaze Takashi, new member of tennis club but made captain in less than two weeks after joining-" I scanned my eyes across the page, "Kyushu's unbeatable speed player and nicknamed as-"
"The speed bird of Kyushu," Kagami-san finished, "He also holds the record for having the fastest serve of two hundred and thirty five kilometers."
I nodded to Kagami-san's words, "His court speed is an incredible one second or less," I added, "Kagami-san, he practically flies!"
She sighed and leant back against the bed, "Hence the name speed bird," she ushered, laying an arm against her forehead, "Kenya's seriously going to meet the toughest opponent ever in his tennis career."

(Back to normal POV)
"Is it really that necessary to give Kagami all those flowers?" I questioned, raising a brow at the enormous bouquet of varying plants, "I mean, it's not like you're never seeing her again."
The bible of tennis who ever so lovingly adored floral decorations, merely replied with a sharp nod, "Kagami has always loved my hand grown flowers," he insisted.
"But that's not the point-"
An irritated sigh was heard, "Just leave it senpai," Zaizen snorted, "Buchou never listens to you anyways."
I glared at the genius brat, "Whose side are you on, Zaizen?"
"Look who's talking today!" Koharu's girlish giggles were heard as he jumped on Zaizen, "Our little Hikaru is growing up!"
As furthermore arguing and our dear genius brat getting annoyed at Koharu, we- meaning the idiotic bunch of tennis players, soon arrived at the door leading into Kagami's room. Stepping inside, the first thing that happened was-
"My sweet, beautiful Kagami!" Shiraishi was by Kagami's bed in a blink of the eye, "I need my daily kisses!"
Then follows the-
"Kya! What a lovey dovey moment! Oh Yuu-kun!" A flutter of love hearts and sparkles.
And lastly-
"Chitose, why is Shiraishi trying to eat Kagami nee-chan's face?" Kin-chan, the level of innocence that was unbelievably low on any human being.
Sighing with exhaustion as the team piled into the room, I eventually found a comfy corner and perched myself against the armrest of a couch. Waiting for the team to calm down, I subsequently studied the room. A new manila folder sat on the coffee table next to the bed, along with a cup of cold tea.
"Kagami, did-"
"Guys!" a loud shout was heard from the girl herself.
The room instantly became quiet, "Kagami, what's wrong?" her lover asked.
Sitting on her bed with a folded newspaper and a pencil in hand, Kagami looked like she was ready to win a millon dollars, "I need a five letter country name that has E in the middle and ending in A." she declared.
"Easy," Chitose, who spoke up after a minute of silence, managed a grin, "Kenya."
I shot the man a haughty look, "If this is going to repeat what happened last year," I threatened, "Than I'm going to send the mafia after you."
Chitose chuckled, 'I purely-"
"It works!" An excited interruption from Kagami as she grabbed the nearby Zaizen and squeezed the poor boy in her arms, "Finally, my crossword is complete!"
Seeing the increasing amount of affection and love shown to the genius brat, the bible of tennis himself began to sulk, whine and tug like a lost puppy. I managed a sigh, this was going to be one long meeting…

"Shishigaku."
"Shishigaku?" A unison of voice echoed Kagami's words.
Eyes were turned onto Chitose, "Our old friends return," the bible of tennis sighed before passing back the manila folder to Kagami, "With a new captain as well."
Chitose frowned at this, "A new captain?" he muttered, folding his arms, "When did they organize a new ranking match?"
"They didn't-" Kagami replied, "This guy thrashed the original captain and took his place two weeks after joining."
A round of surprised expressions flew around the team, "Who on earth is this guy?" Yuuji questioned, "He sounds pretty monstrous."
Kagami twitched her lips before flipping open the folder again, "His name is Namikaze Takashi," she began, pausing to shoot a small glance at me, "And his the Speed bird of Kyushu."
I blinked at the name, "The what?" I exclaimed
"The speed bird of Kyushu," Kagami repeated in a quiet voice.
The room all turned to me, "He sounds like another Kenya," Koharu uttered, "Slightly more arrogant though."
Shiraishi glanced at me, "And slightly faster than Kenya as well," he added
I felt my brows dip, "I've never heard of this guy," I remarked
"You wouldn't have," Kagami answered from the bed, "He only became a national level player after defeating Shishigaku's former captain."
The bible of tennis frowned, "His average serve is above two hundred kilometers and his regular court speed is less than one second," he recalled.
"That in total is faster than Gin senpai's hadoukyuu," Zaizen declared after a long sequence of listening, "Or buchou without his golden gauntlet."
Chitose seemingly agreed to this, "It's like he's flying," he muttered.
A small sigh was heard from Kagami as she returned the manila folder to the coffee table. Subsequently turning back and flashing me a smile, she radiated a sense of hope.
"Kenya, The Speed Star of Naniwa," she announced, "Are you ready for this?"
